Thank you PianoJF for another splendid upload. Cziffra played this sonata at his Royal Festival Hall recital London 1963. A programme of Chopin and Liszt that included the Polonaise in A flat Op.53, Liszt's Grand Galop Chromatique and Hungarian Rhapsody 6.

I prefer Pogorelich for the first mvmt (the staccato touch fits the nervousness) and Rubinstein for the last mvmt, but Cziffra, as always, doesn't disappoint
This recording is a real jewel. All four movements are infused with impressive musicality. Much personality and yet no distortion of the text at all.

Cleaner sound than Horowitz and Argerich. Some very interesting inflections. What an extraordinary interpretation!

Cziffra is our musical GOD at this fucking moment
It was Cziffra, and the others.
I missed that comment :)
yes
I've never heard the 4th movement so clearly. That's probably the most authentic recording.
Nice piano and miking. I sometimes feel that Cziffra's greatness was obscured by less than optimal recording and pianos

Best performance?
I prefer Pogorelich for the first mvmt (the staccato touch fits the nervousness) and Rubinstein for the last mvmt, but Cziffra, as always, doesn't disappoint
Horowitz ?
@@simonborkovec5723i consider Novaes's the best. (Except for the third mvm. Pogorelich plays it the best)
