Clayton Stewart, its been my favorite Cowboys season ever, I remember them coming off three straight 5-11 seasons and once Parcells came abord I had renewed hope and boy I wasn’t disappointed. Parcells fucked up by switching to a 3-4 the season after.
@Joey BYa he was.always a 3/4 guy and that was his plan from the beginning to make the switch . the only reason he ran a 4/3 that first year was because we didnt have the personnel to run a 3/4... thats why we drafted demarcus ware (3/4 OLB) and marcus spears (3/4 END) i tell you one thing that surprised the hell out of me was when greg ellis made the switch to OLB opposite ware.. he went from a sold DE to a monster in his own right out there.. far more effective statistically playing that stand up LB spot than a traditional DE...
Great job this is the year I became a fan because bill parcels came in and watching him sit Jerry down and take over watching a rebuild was awesome. Now I’m a die hard great footage thank you for sharing
This is the year that turned me into die hard fan watching a new boss come in sit Jerry down and take over. Watching a rebuild that formed the cowboys for next 10 years awesome
Born in Dallas, 1998. This was my first year where I faintly remember somewhat watching the Cowboys. Great to comeback as an adult and actually appreciate some of the good teams and underrated players we had in the early 2000s
Thanks for these awesome highlights for one of my favorite Cowboys teams coached by Parcels. Glenn, Galloway, Bryant, Witten were some serious weapons. Parcells squeezed every ounce out of this squad. The special teams esp were a big factor across all these highlights. That is the sign of a well disciplined and coached team. I forgot how much he stuck to the run to set up the play action deep balls which Quincy thrived in so well. Literally every pass was play action. Dak is also much better in play action than just slinging it from the shotgun.
Fond memories of this 2003 team. First year of Parcells and Jason Witten, and Emmitt Smith's return after making the "diamond among trash" comment the year before and then leaving in free agency. And the forgotten #88 Antonio Bryant whom they picked up in the 3rd round from Pitt., and could have been a star had he kept his head on straight. Probably the best Cowboys team since the 1996 season. I believe they started off 7-2 and finished with the #1 defense that season. The offense started out strong but faded down the stretch. Seeing only the highlights makes you forget how limited Quincy Carter really was. Pretty sure they lost to New England 12 - 0 that year. Made the playoffs but were knocked out by Carolina whom they had beaten during the season. Carolina went on to lose to New England by 3 points in the Super Bowl, with the infamous Janet Jackson wardrobe malfunction at half time.
It's also kind of cool to see the link between the last players of the 90s Super Bowl era (Allen, Adams, Woodson...even Emmitt Smith and Brock Marion playing against the Cowboys) and current/recent players like Witten and Romo. Makes the dynasty feel like not that long ago.
One thing I love about that first Giants game, aside from the miracle comeback at the end, was how Jeremy Shockey talked mad shit about how he was going to destroy Dallas in the week prior to the game...only to drop what would've been a wide-open TD and have two picks on passes thrown his way.
@@mariosnum1fan roy williams, greg ellis, laroi glover, darren woodson, dat nguyen. They were stacked that year on defense. Particularly in the secondary
guy had a rifle. i remember a guy that worked at the sportsbook i used to go to in nv that had told me about what the score was with carter back in 2003. this guy at the sportsbook had gone to the u of georgia, when quincy was playing there. damn, if he wasn't right. darn shame...
I agree on one thing. I was hoping Payton would become our head coach. No coach makes a player look good, just like no qb can make a receiver look good. The players still have to execute. Yes... coaches can call some bad plays, but that is a reflection on the coach. The same with good plays as far as play calling is concerned. But coaches don't make players look good. If any coach HELPS a player it is their position coach. But again... the player has to execute. And with this being a team sport a lot of other players come into play. I think the Cowboys made a mistake bringing back Glenn in playoffs after being out at the end of the regular season because of injury. You can see he wasn't the same and I believe is part of the reason we failed.
😂C'mon Man...Stop that nonsense. This current team is more skilled...its the coaching, as a whole. Do you want to debate the coaching skill of The Tuna to McCarthy?? Seriously?? Bill had more skill in his pinky finger than Mike does in his entire brain.
Quincy was by far my favorite QB in that interregnum period between Aikman & Romo. He made some insane throws this season. And holy shit were Woodson & Williams demolishing receivers every Sunday. Put Woody in the HOF already!
It's crazy to think what would have happened if Carter had just stayed away from smoking weed. I highly doubt that Romo ever sees the field as a starter, unless there was an injury. I'm not sure the Cowboys would have even brought Romo in for a look, and he probably ends up in Denver. I have a good friend who's a 49ers fan and he was so aggrevated that it looked like Dallas was getting ready to reload with Quincy right after Aikman had retired.
This is a Giants fan currently living in Dallas, TX. Have to say the Cowboys defense that year was fun to watch. Has to be one of the better ones you guys had during the 2000s.
Yeah it was really good for a few seasons but the Giants D was better. In 2007, they took down the #3 offense in Green Bay, the #2 offense in Dallas, and the #1 offense of New England's in the Super Bowl.
Deuce Pickle I’m not even sure what to expect from the g-men this year tbh. I was hoping we wait until next year for a qb, wasn’t big with the class this year. Saquan is a beast just hope we don’t waste his prime, he is pretty much our franchise guy with Obj now gone. I’m hoping for a decent season but deep down I know it’s going to be another tough year.
Ethics, you’ve got to have good ethics! An honor to play, we honor the talent now of how they played, but the hard work and discipline and self sacrifice honor us today with their dedication, like Gregory. This is a team sport, no “I” in team, yes, they honor us with staying in shape and staying healthy, on and off the field. He wasn’t the only but, I hope this history will straighten the rest!
Quarterbacks under center, running backs taking 20+ carries, defenders that actually tackled, special teams making a difference, physicality being celebrated! Man these were the days when American football was still played the way it was intended to be played, hard, physical, and with relentless effort. Then Roger Goddell came along. Now the game barely resembles what it once was. Watching old films like these makes me happy and sad at the same time.
I read that Parcells got rid of Carter in favor of Testarverde because Carter failed a drug test. But Carter did have a nice arm. At the time of 2003, I was living in Houston and going to college down there, so the only games I would see of the Cowboys were of the old Monday night games on ABC or Sunday night on ESPN. Rarely would one of the local affiliates down in Houston would show a Cowboys game. I don't think I watched a Houston Texans game while I was living there, except for the 2002 opener of the Cowboys/Texans.
No I sure don't, unfortunately. I recorded the games onto VHS and then edited them down to another VHS and then recorded those to DVD and the tapes are long gone.
our WR core was on another level... terry glenn joey galloway antonio bryant.. what if we had still had rocket ismail too?? woooooooow lol what a all madden team that wouldve been.., i noticed something that i guess i had forgotten but dang quincy had a gun.. he probably threw the best deep ball in the league lol... well maybe not but close lol
@@deucepickle2091 that's definitely a valid point... I think he made some real progress from his first 2 years on the league.. its kinda laughable to think that they couldn't really decide between him and Chad Hutchinson??🤣🤣🤦♂️🤦♂️ but ya it was that close because Quincy lacked a lot of basic fundamentals.. the fact that Chad gave up football to go play pro baseball, couldn't cut it there and tried to go back to football at the highest level, and quincy still couldn't outright win the job.. lol but you could definitely see his progress though for real.. I loved his pocket movment.. it was nice and subtle and then he'd throw a strike to a receiver.. ya if he hadn't gotten caught up with drugs and continued to make progress, we probably never hear about Romo.. but when Romo took over in 06 you could definitely see that he was a far better QB than Quincy had been a couple years before.. just in his understanding on the field.. even Darren Woodson told Parcels in practice that Romo was the guy and that's when Quincy was the starter and nobody even knew who Romo was lol
Just when Bill Parcells was turning this team around, Jerry Jones had to destroy the chemistry of the team when he signed Terrell Owens, which sent Bill Parcells into an early retirement. And here we are, more than 20 years later without getting any closer to playing in a championship game. Only Washington has a longer drought in the NFC and playing in a championship game.
Dude emmitt finished like top 10 in rushing and only played 14 games his last year in Arizona. Had 1100 all purpose yds and 11 tds... He was awesome still
Parcells took a team didn't have a lot of talent and got the most out of them in 2003. A team that was 5-11 and got them 10-6. Got slackers who barely put in the effort and got again the most out of them. This is why Parcells is in the hall of fame. He took terrible teams like the Giants, Patriots, Jets, and Cowboys who were the season before a terrible team and it took a year or two, but got them to the playoffs.
Quincy Carter could have been one of the GREAT Dallas Cowboys QBs...but, he liked the weed more than he liked winning. Damn, Quince, I watch these throwback films and, remember just how much skill you had. Wasted!🤦♂️
This 2003 team was so much fun to watch! They had a ton of heart

That was one good pair of safeties! Both were good hitters and Woodson was a great cover safety!

Two SAFETIES in one game??? Incredible!
Nice I started watching cowboys in 2016 but enjoying these throwbacks
This 2003 Dallas Cowboys Was Pretty Good NFL Team
It really was!
Man if Carter could've stayed clean we might not ever have seen Tony Romo. Carter had a gun and coaching to mold his skills...
Not a Cowboys fan, but I wish the Cowboys RUclips channel kept the Deep Blue documentary episode on Parcells and that '03 season.
I freaking love Parcells. I'll watch anything with him talking about the game and coaching. He's funny and brilliant. One of the all time best.

Great footage thank you brings bake memories just don’t show 2006 Seattle romo lol make sure you get this year 💪💪💪🔥
this was one of the best seasons for me to watch, the panthers were good and i was in charlotte then.
