+ZACK COFFMAN You're right, here he doesn't. It is almost a lackadaisical performance. Like someone strapped a guitar to him and asked him to play on the spot and his mind was elsewhere.
@@NMMShred yeah well it does take shitload of practice.... BUT making music is most important. Marty Friedman once said "any monkey can play up and down the scale but making it musical is what separates from musicians from monkeys". This is just my opinion.
If Eddie wasn't born, like it or not, this is the guy that would've taken his place. Even though Eddie did inspire him, he was already waaay on his way playing classicly on the guitar. And some musicians hate on him, saying he doesn't play with feeling, lol. He can play slow, melodic stuff as well. But.... he can also do this...
As I watched the vi. I then looked at the comments. People are such asses. I would venture 90% of all players could not play this at all. And if they could learn this small piece they dont know the theory as to why this works. much less create there own stuff to this level. Of course there are playing styles that would not be interested in playing this. But those who dig this like my self see it as a dream to play like that for a moment much less a be a forerunner of a total style. And a founding father! I have been playing 27+ years and I just see efficiency. His hand movement is so slight to produce so much.I realy like him I saw him in the early 80's for the raising force tour. I respect him, but I am not a super mega die hard fan, I just set back by all the haters he was the piece of the puzzle that made the metal we all clame to love so much. I am not interested in the least with Janis Joplin but with out her we would have never had joan jett, the runaways phantom blue The Donna's to ladys who rock out like nightwish. Respect your roots!
Hey kids, YNGWIE deserves respect. It is not an old man, but neither is 17. Yngwie showed all his skill and power of youth. It is a MASTER. Malmsteen is a cult name. A key part of ROCK HISTORY. Get over it. Idiots! Yngwie is like a FATHER. FOR EVERYONE! Long live the Master! FOREVER! Saludos desde Argentina! "Cool down boys!!"
I used to be an Yngwie fan and I always recognized him as a talented guitarist. But after the Alchemy album, his works seemed to fall apart. There's no quality in the music, it's just shred, shred and shred and recycling the same guitar licks in every song...
All these comments here don’t even know what influence Yngwie did to a lot of guitarists way back in the 80s. Nothing wrong with being jealous and angry to a guitar god who became successful and had everything in his life living the rockstar life. And you what have you achieved with your guitar playing? IYAAAAKKKK HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
For years people admired his genius, learned from him, even stole from him, didnt even give credit, and wish they could play 1/10th as good and can"t! But have the balls to criticize.
C'mon...the guy never could write a song. That's why, outside of geek guitar circles, the guy is basically unknown. Why do you suppose Satriani got so big for a while? Well...aside from being a far better musician, the guy could also write great instrumental songs. Van Halen, Page, Joe Perry, Blackmore...awesome riff-masters/writers, and Van Halen was an original pyrotechnic God but with real feel and emotion. That being said, it's odd/funny/sad how little most musicians progress once they get to a certain point; Eddie has been recycling the same stuff since the early 80's, so has Malmsteen, and even Satch hasn't really shown us anything new since the early 90's, technique/virtuosity-wise.
Yngwie's earlier stuff i.e. Rising Force, Trilogy, etc. had melody and some creativity and feel in the playing... but yeah, since and likely prior to War to End all Wars it's been recycled riffs and just plain boring music. He's still a hell of a guitarist in my book, but if I want speed AND melody I listen to Shawn Lane.
The same can be said for a guitarist like Holdsworth. He is virtually unknown outside of "geek guitar circles" yet he is considered one of the all time best guitarists. You don't have to be popular or mainstream to be an innovator and a great musician. The fact that players like Macapline, Holdsworth, Yngwie, Greg Howe, George Bellas etc... are mostly unknown outside of guitar circles doesn't take anything away from their brilliance as musicians. These are guitarists guitarist, they're on another level. Btw... to say Yngwie hasn't written any good songs is absurd. Because he has written some of the best rock/metal instrumentals of all time. Songs like Black Star, Far Beyond the Sun, Evil Eye, Icarus Dream Suite, Brothers, Crying etc... are legendary works. So with all due respect... guitarists like Satch, EVH, and Yngwie don't have to prove anything to anyone anymore. They are innovators and pioneers of modern rock guitar playing, and their body of work speaks for itself. They're all legendary artists that deserve our respect.
Everyone runs out of ideas. It's called life. Just the fact that those guitarists did enough to break through or get famous should be enough. There's plenty enough to listen to out there. This video was horrible though. He even fluffed a load of notes towards the end. And I had just finished watching a Marty Freidman video where he was bashing up and down sweep picking, haha.
Charles Miller It wasn't that bad. In my opinion the guitar sounded a little out of tune, that doesn't help. Plus... Yngwie is a first take kinda guy, what ever happens happens. I'm pretty sure if he warmed up for a half hour beforehand he could have nailed it no problem. Overture is a demanding piece.
***** The point is... he's still a great player that deserves respect. There was nobody in 1981-85 that played like him, and he influenced many great players that came after him. He still plays and composes at a high level. I think we tend to take him for granted, but he's a helluva player. Cheers
Yngwie is awesome. Not what he used to be but you still have to respect the guy. All the hate on this guy is completely stupid. I guarantee anyone bagging him out is nowhere near as good, inspired or successful. Yngwie inspired a complete generation of players. So off you go with your little negative comments. Yngwie is laughing all the way to the bank.
Bera Matteo Francesco what do you do for a living? I highly doubt you're on top of your game everyday. oh god, a bad performance out of 35,975 great ones. let's condemn him to something less than virtuosity for a 1 minute video out of his 40 year career.
I feel like all the new videos where Yngwie has to play his signature guitar his tone just isn't at its best... I guess he's not allowed to appear with one of his vintage strats he's played for decades anymore. That's just sad.
Unfortunaly for me, I've had the dis-pleasure of meeting him. He's not very nice or pleasant at all. I was shocked, & taken back by his very self absorbed attitude. I had up to that point admired him as 1 of my guitar Hero's. Sad really, God gave him a gift, & instead of being humble. He is arrogant.
Thats true, God says "be humble". Im a very good to, does that mean I should be rude, arrogant, & pompous as well? Sorry, I dont agree with that at all. Gunner Freyr Hilmarsson. Be humble, kind, peaceable as God demands.
It's amazing how many people criticize Yngwie for playing sloppy, yet players like Hendrix and Page were much sloppier. Most of the footage I've seen of Hendrix and Page they're hitting dead notes and missing notes all the time. Yngwie is a much more articulate player than they are.
Thank guy!!! Finally someone know Hendrix and page are sloppy. I agree... But ppl say for there time they were ahead in the guitar world. But it doesn't change the fact that my ear bleed when I hear page, Hendrix, and Kirk hammet solo.
you know speed is not everything and when it comes to music it means "instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion."
this is what it sounds like when you hear an isolated guitar track with a very revealing tone. granted it wasn't completely clean but this is basically what guitar tones sound like before mixed.
It sounds like Guitar Center on a Saturday afternoon

hmmm not at his finest here... I love Yngwie for his playing and I've always hated all the donut comments people have made but looking at this he really does have some kind of vibe to him that reminds me of when Elvis hit his Vegas phase.
That was really sloppy
I don't think so. Just a bit at the end.
0:46 wtf?
When "stretching out" goes wrong
😄ingwie is a human❤️
Lol my boi is bein dragged out there
Amazing hand😎...i love it❤️
The smile at the end tells you that he thinks he killed it with this crap.
Everyone has off days my friend, we're all human!
Can't believe all these put downs He can do what he wants! The only sad thing here is the special unpaid judges
@@Guitarplayer7253 I never said he's a bad guitarist.
@@michaeljohn-ve3xg Ah ikr? You can't judge someone when you are not better at it than them.
Such clarity is insane 🖖
this man is incredible....amazing!!!!!!
YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN IS A PIONEERING AND GROUNDBREAKING ROCK GUITAR LEGEND! END OF STORY!
when you'r bored but have to show some relatives that you play the guitar
Top class player with balls and character. Malmsteen is a guitar god. Deal with it. The rest of you haters can piss off.
Well said... Cheers
One always know what to expect from him before he stars to playing. Like him, but..the same again, and again.
This kind of licks was just every way of now a day
How the mighty have fallen...
Once the king always the king....shut up..he is the number one...
Agreed
"Hes slowzly unlearnings how to playz da guitarz" - Skwisgaar Skwigelf
He probably hadn't picked up a guitar in several weeks and was asked to knock something out.
Sloppy, out of time, crappy tone, relentlessly predictable.
he's not out of time or sloppy. its live.
+Bbzije1 hm? and why does that make a difference ?
+Andybaby and i also bet u cant play a single lick u fucking dumb fuck
all manot another useless comment. even if he couldn't play a single instrument at all he could still tell it's sloppy, out of tune or whatever. or do you think that only ppl that are able to play like malmsteen, gilbert etc are allowed to determine (is that the right word?) the quality of a piece?
+Andybaby well personally i think the tone is awesome.... XXD
Imagine how fast he could be without all of that excess weight in the form of bling
Actually he doesn't sound good at all
+ZACK COFFMAN You're right, here he doesn't. It is almost a lackadaisical performance. Like someone strapped a guitar to him and asked him to play on the spot and his mind was elsewhere.
ZACK COFFMAN hes doing freaking sweep picking to you know how hard that is
@@NMMShred yeah well it does take shitload of practice.... BUT making music is most important. Marty Friedman once said "any monkey can play up and down the scale but making it musical is what separates from musicians from monkeys". This is just my opinion.
@@NMMShred He did it terrible
I could watch malmsteen play all day long he makes it look so easy.
Great player that runs scales the majority of the time. Hard for me to get into.
Respect your roots!
nothousebroke preach!!! So true, he is and always will be a legend.
There's no quality in the music, it's just shred, shred and shred and recycling the same guitar licks in every song...
there is only one person even more annoying now ( and I used to be a huge Yngwie Malmsteen fan) , and that is Batio...holy hell!
awesome
YOU HAVE SET AN EXAMPLE FOR A GREAT MANY GUITAR PLAYERS,INCLUDING ME
Malmsteen never sold out, always stayed the same gotta respect that.
He does know there's a backing track right...? He seems to lose sight of that at times....😬
Cool‼️I love you💕💕💕
SOU FÃ DE YNGWIE DESDE DE SEU INICIO DE CARREIRA UMA FORMAÇÃO MUSICAL IMPECAVEL(PERFEIÇÃO)
They should have called it Yngwie Malmsteen - "Torture" coz that was fucking horrible.
lol
:D
You're not kidding anyone with those sideburns Yngwie!
For years people admired his genius, learned from him, even stole from him, didnt even give credit, and wish they could play 1/10th as good and can"t! But have the balls to criticize.
The best technical guitarist in the world.
Charles Miller
It wasn't that bad.
*****
The point is... he's still a great player that deserves respect. There was nobody in 1981-85 that played like him, and he influenced many great players that came after him.
He still plays and composes at a high level. I think we tend to take him for granted, but he's a helluva player. Cheers
Yngwie my favorit guitar No.1 in d'world
The master of guitars the one and only Yngwie Malmsteen
You guys do realize that he's just trolling us in this video.
And those pants are just spray painted on.
Then you probably have never been exposed to Glam Metal.
I Love Yngwie. He puts the OVER in over the top.
The only message and lesson one can that from this video, is the vital importance of warming up and to take ample time for sound check.
This is shadow of malmsteen, not clean and the timing note is not very good, i don't believe my eyes... But, he was a master and insipiration.
Bera Matteo Francesco what do you do for a living? I highly doubt you're on top of your game everyday. oh god, a bad performance out of 35,975 great ones. let's condemn him to something less than virtuosity for a 1 minute video out of his 40 year career.
@@theshapeexists Godd damnnnn came in swinging!!
@@theshapeexists Stop crying poor fanboy
@@Maritoshadow uhhh, ok
Does this "Overture" including "timing"?
I love Yngwie's showmanship. He's only playing a short piece of a song for Guitar World, yet he acts like he's playing in front of a sold-out crowd.
Yaaawwwwn. Yngwie. How about some new licks?
Michael Angelo Batio beats the ever living shit out of him as he's ten times more humble and retains /learns new skills to this day!
There goes the adage, 'Never meet your heroes.' As much as I'd like to meet him, I'm afraid he'd rub me wrong the same way he did you.
God gave him a body and a mind of his own, he earned his ability by a lot of practice .
Thats true, God says "be humble". Im a very good to, does that mean I should be rude, arrogant, & pompous as well? Sorry, I dont agree with that at all. Gunner Freyr Hilmarsson. Be humble, kind, peaceable as God demands.
Let´s all agree on that humbleness is a desired quality/ state ;) God bless us all , arrogant guitar heroes and the rest
What did he do? If you don't mind me asking.
Amazing live this shouldnt define 😮amything- gonna see him in Clearwater gonna be a great show
Lol I'm a massive yngwie fan - but what the hell is this ???
Haha -at his best he was incredible
"Play it again" Yngwie
One of the best picking hands, if not the best!
this guy is so full of himself
QUE BAGUNÇA. !!!!!
0:45 to 0:48 that's really bad ._.
For those who are complaining, i bet more than half of you can't play his songs.
Neither can you
It's amazing how many people criticize Yngwie for playing sloppy, yet players like Hendrix and Page were much sloppier.
But what they play isn't boring and has some feel to it.
siebevz
That's your opinion.
At least they could write an iconic song. 30 seconds of this nonsense gets boring
@@axlh.1827 - you are ignorant.
you know speed is not everything and when it comes to music it means "instrumental sounds combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion."
the Steven Seagul of the guitar world
this is what it sounds like when you hear an isolated guitar track with a very revealing tone. granted it wasn't completely clean but this is basically what guitar tones sound like before mixed.
