500k pots are mostly used for humbuckers, 250k’s are common for single coils. 500k on vintage style singles coils aren’t common because it would basically increase the brightness while they’re already clear as glass. Imo that question felt somewhat out of line, kind of rehearsed as if it was meant to make you look smart. Yngwie didn’t seem to expect that question either given his reaction.
I'll say this much, it's one thing to listen to Yngwie on a CD or watch a RUclips video of him…those things are easy to step away from or turn-off/tune out. In person, the dude is the maestro…it's not just about his playing or his speed or the lines or the vibrato… The dude IS exactly what the pictures say, exactly how you expect him to be, puts on a show like NO ONE else..and he commands the audience. I was one of those idiots who thought, "Yngwie sucks.." until I saw him live at the Guitar Gods show when he saw me in a crowd..walked over and shred a personal masterclass 2 inches from my face. As for the persons continuing to state their negative opinions about the guys work, attitude etc. that's the easy thing to do…what he does is virtuoso.
I saw him for the very first time last year as well. He commanded that crowd like NO ONE else. He just sucks all the attention when he`s on stage. I felt like i was watching a young Yngwie Malmsteen back in 85 with the energy he showed on stage.
This is the best comment I've seen here yet - someone who really understands Vai as a performer. I posted this elsewhere but it's relevant to your comment: Regardless of whether or not you like his style of music personally, there's no denying that he gives his all to his performance and is one of the defining guitarists of the genre. He's a classic 80s rock star - huge technical ability and an ego to match! I don't often listen to his music, but it's fun when I do. I went to see him around 2003 on the G3 tour with Satch and Vai, and it was a great show. He does what he does and he's the best at it!
Im surprised he didnt put his name on his pedals too...lol jk jk. Its nice to see after playing guitar for so many decades he still gets excited about all the little things.
Yngwie's got that unmistakeable charisma and attitude and thats really what makes him great. He has a great sound too. That Plexi circuit is a classic. Except his pitch for the pickups though. Try Bill Lawrence L298s, they're super awesome.
I think people that dislike him are just misunderstanding his sense of humor. I live next to him in Miami and so I know he just has that dry humor going...Like that Fuzz Face joke. Of course he uses it, that's why it's there. Asking him if he uses it is kind of silly, so that's kind of how his wit works. He's actually not arrogant at all and quite friendly, again, from my experience. Re-watch the video with the perspective that he's a joker, and I think you'll get it. As far as who's a better guitar player than who? That's a retarded debate.
...or at least respect him for his dedication to his craft. Regardless of whether or not you like his style of music personally, there's no denying that he gives his all to his performance and is one of the defining guitarists of the genre. What people ignore is that all those Marshalls are there for show, actually his sound comes from a small solid state amp in the background and distortion through a Boss DS1.
+Sarah Roggenkamp well it's accually a hybrid set with strings from 8's to 11's (8-11-14-22-32-48), so 9's are probably most similar, just in case you're as broke as i am xD

After the clinic he went to the bar for a drink and wound up to my amazement in company with myself and my few friends that were with me that evening. I`ve owned a Malmsteen strat for about 10 years and i can honestly say that it`s an incredible instrument with very good build quality. No imperfections and a truly wonderful sound.. Took out the middle pickup, moved the bridge pickup to middle position and put a Seymor Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge position to give it more of metal bite and feel and now it`s my main guitar again:)
I know the difference between the two. I'm a bit of an electrical engineer. I was just taking Yngwie's word for it and assuming it was an attenuator that Marshall managed to cram in there. I actually just looked it up and it's neither a simple master volume nor an attenuator. It's a power regulation device for the output tubes. From what I read, it doesn't affect the signal coming from the driver to the output section. Idk how you could regulate power without affecting saturation, but judging by
This guy's live tone is truly amazing. He got me using 50w Plexi's 25yrs ago. His new 100w head is great as well (in 50w mode). I'm a Luthier & open a lot of new guitars as they come in. The fit & finish of the YJM Strats are impeccable. The fretwork is perfect every time. He used to do a lot of coke & say stupid shit, but he backs up what he says about his endorsed gear. He's thoroughly involved with his gear & he uses what he endorses.
Yngwie did make a point when you go out in space, the're are only two man made objects you can see, one is The Great Wall Of China, one is Yngwie Malmsteens gut.
ok, i just looked it up. basically, a large transistor (a FET?) lowers the screen voltage to the power tubes. Pretty simple actually. But theres also output section feedback compensation of which I can't find any specs. Maybe that's where computer control comes in. I suppose controlling voltage at the screen wouldn't affect saturation and distortion too much as the input to the cathode is still full-blast and can still overdrive the tube.
I put a Les Paul style knob on mine and use my little finger as a volume pedal. I turned my Telecasters control plates upside down as I used to catch the switch. changed the volume round tho'. I noticed that Fender do that on some models now. I work as a guitar tech and have bought pickguard blanks and altered the control spacings for people who feel the same as you.
yeah, I recommend to try the pickup in the bridge position and keep in mind they are low output so dont expect a super powerfull sound, Yngwie uses the amp gain to 11 and a noise gate.
How did she get that interview man! He's come to town..I'm mean the concert was amazing but he's just...worse than egocentric , he just ignores his fan...doesn't even chat!

I have one of his guitar picks from Monday’s show can’t believe how amazing he is
Her questions are the best rig rundown questions ever.
I'll say this much, it's one thing to listen to Yngwie on a CD or watch a RUclips video of him…those things are easy to step away from or turn-off/tune out. In person, the dude is the maestro…it's not just about his playing or his speed or the lines or the vibrato…
The dude IS exactly what the pictures say, exactly how you expect him to be, puts on a show like NO ONE else..and he commands the audience.
Definitely! And it's a totally different thing seeing him in a small venue as opposed to an open-air setting. Like a Great White in a Fishtank! :D
@@SeattleScotty hear hear friend. The man is a master of his craft hands down
Im surprised he didnt put his name on his pedals too...lol jk jk. Its nice to see after playing guitar for so many decades he still gets excited about all the little things.
lomparti He's got nothing on Bonomassa, you know he even has his own signature toilet paper now.
well, he is now LOL
I had a dod signature yjm pedal
This is a great rig rundown video. Right to the point and a lot of great questions from the interviewer.
Yngwie's got that unmistakeable charisma and attitude and thats really what makes him great. He has a great sound too. That Plexi circuit is a classic. Except his pitch for the pickups though. Try Bill Lawrence L298s, they're super awesome.
6:20 "so you use the fuzz face?"
YJM "Nah I just like the way it looks" LOL
i got the new yngwie's signature wig
Makes you play guitar faster
Now here we see a man who loves his donuts.
He may not love donuts..but he could love himself some pies..
I love Yngwie. He makes me so proud to be a guitarist
Fantastic personality this Yngwie J. Malmsteen is...always a great interview.
Yeah he seems very approachable... I'm kinda wondering if the lady on that airplane hadn't done something really obnoxious to him.
H.Havok does he ever invite you over for beers, and if so, can I come too?
Girls are always asking what pots are you using... get kinda tiring...
As soon as someone slates him you know straight away they cant play themselves for shit. All the other top players love him.
...or at least respect him for his dedication to his craft. Regardless of whether or not you like his style of music personally, there's no denying that he gives his all to his performance and is one of the defining guitarists of the genre. He's a classic 80s rock star - huge technical ability and an ego to match! I almost never listen to his music, but it's fun when I do. I went to see him around 2003 on the G3 tour with Satch and Vai, and it was a great show. He does what he does and he's the best at it!
See what Jake E Lee has to say about him.
Noreplyrequired Why? Who cares? Who’s Jake E Lee?
What people ignore is that all those Marshalls are there for show, actually his sound comes from a small solid state amp in the background and distortion through a Boss DS1.
the band i was in, Near Infinity opened up for Yngwie at Jimmy Z in Everett,Wa .April 1st 1994. It was amazing....He was amazing.
0:10 Malmsteen gauging Rebecca's rack, lol
Rack run down 😂
8's!! No wonder its hard to play his shit on 11's hahaha
+Sarah Roggenkamp 8's and a half step down, right?
yeah I believe so
+Sarah Roggenkamp I dunno if you noticed, but it's hard to play his shit on pretty much anything lol.
+Sarah Roggenkamp well it's accually a hybrid set with strings from 8's to 11's (8-11-14-22-32-48), so 9's are probably most similar, just in case you're as broke as i am xD
+Sarah Roggenkamp He also plays scalloped necks...which requires a light touch to play in tune.
Can't fault the guy! Never seems like an ass. And absolutely kills it on the guitar.
Just don’t give him donuts….
I like him, still so excited about playing after all these years at the top, well done Yngwie 👍
Still got Yngwie;s guitar pick that hit me in the chest when he flicked it at me at Cardiff St David's Hall. Awesome.
They didn't show us the Yngiwe Malmsteen Signature Colgate Toothbrush.. :( I was kind of let down by that.. I heard it had a scalloped grip, a total innovation in the art of oral hygiene
"Now this ones really special... it's a beige stratocaster!"
loool ;D
you know sh*ts real when a guy can shred on a strat though
Why Yngwie is so crazy about Ferrari?
Because Michael Angelo Batio refused to give him keys to the Lamborghini...
On the 3rd of Dec 1996 Yngwie came to my hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne England to do a clinic. After the clinic he went to the bar for a drink and wound up to my amazement in company with myself and my few friends that were with me that evening. We didn't hound him and were excited obviously but we gave him his space and conversed with him as we would normally. He was polite and not the big ego guy he's made out to be. I'll never forget that evening.
From the space you can also see the Ego of this man
The "King of Cadenzas". Spectacular technique. I love Yngwie. Some of his old interviews in guitar magazines are hilarious.
he looks so young
yes. because of the scalopped fretboard
Dude reallly still live in the 80s.
That’s because barely anything after the 80s was relevant , except some guns n roses, and love hate albums
What's wrong with that
@@sdime9858 Because he is not looking like a 20 year old anymore. His hair extensions get in the way when he play his scalar runs.lol He was a good guitar player once, but he dont own the ability to renew himself. He keeps on with his harmonic minor. dim scale circus.
@@nevigo5519 Annnnd what have you done for the wider guitar community in general? Just because he isn't like Jeff Beck doesn't mean his talent or ability is irrelevant.
His sound is his signature and that is what makes an artist iconic.
I finally got my hands on an Yngwie strat. Brilliant guitar! I'd love to meet this guy as well, he's on another planet!
You got to have the ferrari sticker in the back otherwise it wont work
1:01 almost said Dimarzio
I hope he has a Fender sticker on the back of his Ferrari.
Yngwie Malmsteen is the Donald Trump of guitar players.
no, yngwie is competent at his job.
He is good at his job, but not so much where everyone else sucks at theirs, thats how he thinks.
Both hilarious and pretty good at their job
Except yngwie is awesome
Make Guitar Playing Great Again.
I'm reading these comments
There lame. Malmsteen is a rockstar
Yngwie did make a point when you go out in space, the're are only two man made objects you can see, one is The Great Wall Of China, one is Yngwie Malmsteens gut.
MetalHead 2509 Hahahahha
You don't realise how much that made me laugh ! Haha
When he signed my stuff he even had Yngwie J Malmsteen signature Sharpies. And that's not a joke.
LMAO
ok, i just looked it up. basically, a large transistor (a FET?) lowers the screen voltage to the power tubes.
Makes my Boogie rig look like a pimple on an elephants arse!!
Smooth as a shampoo salesman
I went through 37 prototypes before I found the best donut
I put a Les Paul style knob on mine and use my little finger as a volume pedal. I turned my Telecasters control plates upside down as I used to catch the switch. changed the volume round tho'. I noticed that Fender do that on some models now. I work as a guitar tech and have bought pickguard blanks and altered the control spacings for people who feel the same as you.
yeah, I recommend to try the pickup in the bridge position and keep in mind they are low output so dont expect a super powerfull sound, Yngwie uses the amp gain to 11 and a noise gate.
It goes up to 11 but I don use it. Did I tell you I have a Ferrari?
"Don't even look at it... Don't even think about looking at it"
I hate to troll but you CAN'T see the wall of China from space...
But you can't say you are trolling before you troll! :)
Pierre Feurry however i think you can still see the pyramids of giza , right ?
How did she get that interview man! He's come to town..I'm mean the concert was amazing but he's just...worse than egocentric , he just ignores his fan...doesn't even chat!
Because she's an attractive woman. Derp
Cool interview. Now i know wat pick thickness he uses. Always interesting to know. And 8 for string.
