Real quick, I wanted to apologize for both the wait for an upload and the random distortions at certain points in the video. For the distortion, I rendered this video 4 times and each time it would change where the distortion would appear. I've tried a few things to fix this without any success, so I'll try to resolve it for the next video. As for the wait, I got out of the routine I was in before for making weekly videos and I got carried away working on this one. I'll keep trying to do better in the future. Thanks!

Me on my white shirt free Hunter with a combat axe and a Nagant Precision being necromancer revived behind the tier 3 that just killed me: Heh. Nothing personal, kid.
My single greatest melee moment was when I got flash banged by a guy while I was in the middle of a combat axe charge at him. He kept shooting and missing which helped me continue to get closer without seeing, so I just bobbed and weaved in his general direction until my eyesight returned and I just hear him yell “NO NOT THE COMBAT AXE!” over VOIP just before my strike fell. That scene literally keeps me up giggling at night, bless that poor man.

So for the melee weapons to be viable, I'd have a suggestion for the developers. For weapons like the cavalry sabre and the machete, I never understood why you couldn't pair them with a handgun, essentially dual-wielding the two. Like have your melee weapon in your main hand and have your handgun in your off hand. You would be able to aim down sights with the handgun, but you'd have a lot of sway due to shooting with your off hand. This is where an added feature in the Ambidextrous perk comes in that increases accuracy. I'd run the hell out of this paired with a hunting bow. Hunting Bow, Caldwell Pax, and Dao, que the Mongolian throat singing.

one note though, I think you dramatically undervalued the hand crossbow with poison bolts. it not only silently kills immolators (someone else mentioned already) but it also silently kills flocks of birds which is ridiculously useful. and it can silently kill the butcher, scrap beak and the assassin ridiculously fast while never putting yourself at risk. many times I've killed the boss while another team was in the compound or pop in to set a few poison clouds to let the boss run through at their own pleasure over and over while I stay focused on the fight.
i realize this video is pretty old to be leaving a comment but I notice so often people don't realize a poison hand crossbow can deal with crows I figured I should mention it.
Thats a solid point, especially with how much sound traps seem to have increased since I made this video. If I were making this video today I'd probably the hand crossbow up a bit more since its capabilities were understated by myselfm
What I love about this game is that even the worst weapons can be used effectively (apart. From the compact Springfield)

Regarding the Obrez- It is by far at its best in the Mace configuration, where it is the impact equivalent of the Romero Hatchet, i.e. maybe the most practical and potent melee weapons. Bullet grubber is definitely not useful for it anymore with the reload after firing mechanic, and unfortunately there is no steady hand/steady aim counterpart for iron sighted weapons.
If you have quartermaster and want to run a big greasy shotgun or bomb lance or something, the Obrez Mace isn't a bad choice.

I want to disagree with melee weapons but you're completely right. All you need is a knife and eyeballs to look at your target's face when you stab them

Use the hand crossbow with vetterli or Winfield, when you don’t need a secondary, and it’s the GOAT
I will say that the utility it offers is extremely nice. Especially with poison rounds or choke rounds!

melees are for shock assault, it's certainly not for EVERY SITUATION, especially against shotguns :|. Funnily enough, I've gotten a couple of trio wipe with bomb lance, it depends on the situation obviously.

I've been running Winfield w/ FMJ + the mini crossbow w/ half poison bolts as a go-to budget loadout for some time now.
Pretty fun, and the crossbow speeds up PVE for crows, immolators, and armored with poison bolts, as well as giving you oneshot potential at close range with normal bolts.
Decent list! I use the Springfield Compact with dum dums paired with dual pax dum dums and it gets the job done for sure.
i love caldwell conversion pistol. i was worried you were going to rate it poorly. not bad sir. i'd bump it up 1 just because i like it 😅
It's become my go to pistol for money runs! I'll run the Romero and Caldwell and go in solo trying to profit. Really effective!
Loved the part about the Nagant pistol, gave me a much needed laugh after an annoying day at work.

though i strongly disagree with the sabre cause im a stabbyyboi i can kill with ease with it but the main factor comes from how you outwit other players.
@@mrhonkler4510 melee in general requires a lot of planning to work effectively. Its why I like the bomb Lance, but in terms of effectiveness you really need to force the enemy team into a perfect position to attack. Even more so than shotguns. It's super tough but super rewarding! Also glad you're enjoying the content, means a lot!

This is actually an insanely convenient bonus of the poison hand crossbow. Instantly killing an immolator near silently is huge!
@@QbertDude now with the poison since you can use it to tag corner camping hunters and wall bang them using dark sight (posin cloud will phase through solid walls and cover making it a great way to deny cover as well. antidote shot kills its usefulness but I doubt ppl are bringing more than one into match guess it depends on how long the game drags on) regardless poison and choke offer lots of area denial utility
Also u can one shot anyone or let him bleed to death, it's just like the romero but silent and more psycho.

About the mosin nagant guns. I found that, except for the avtomat, you can make it so you don’t lose a bullet when you reload if you immediately reload after you fire which makes you eject the empty cartridge instead. You have to do this when your character is priming the gun though.
In my opinion, the melee weapons are really good for rushing in dark maps/rooms, but not much else.
I just love how fire rate seems to be basically the only thing that matters about a gun to qbert

Dual wielding lemat pistols slaps pretty hard (especially w/ incendiary ammo and dragon shotgun shells). Definitely recommend it if you've never tried it

I sometimes just take a free hunter and go in with just a Combat Axe for shiggles, sometimes I go HAM though
you can actually save the bullet on a reload without Bullet Grubber if you hold (R) when you go to reload, alternatively you can refuse to cycle the action of any manual action weapon by holding down (M1)

The two most useful melee weapons are the bomb Lance for sheer damage and usually one shotting any where to the body, and the combat axe, because it costs 5 dollars and and will always kill with a charged hit.
True. Bomb Lance is peak melee, and you can't go wrong with a 5 dollar axe.

Current favorite meme loadout is to run two people with quad chain pistols with FMJ to suppress people through walls while someone else charges with shotgun or melee. Its pretty hilarious watching/hearing people inside a building panic as we bracket them in unending fire XD

2:10 has become my standard fever dream
2 compact springfields one with dum dum and the other with explosive.. Very deadly! Make em bleed (and have low health) then follow up by shooting anywhere near them for the kill! It works wonders! :)
The hand crossbow is worth an S or A tier
Planning to get back into the game, I suck at trying to get kills mainly because 1: console and 2: long guns are not my specialty compared to sidearms. I often ran twin brawler nagants (or nagant officers for rate of fire bonus instead of melee) and a nagant precision to max out my compact ammo count and have both a short range package with some medium range insurance but I am considering using the dolch since I have some but never used them for fear of "inevitable death by headshot"
If my memory of Hunt console days serves correct, melee weapons are key. Bomb Lance is nuts on console, if I remember correctly.
Springfield compact is the most under rated gun in the game, especiallythe deadeye varient with dum dum rounds. Pair it with a shotgun or dual pistols and it becomes a great little pocket sniper. Better range and easier to hit with the the uppercut and if you get a body rather than a heads hot and the enemy has seconds to live before the dum dum bleed effect finishes the job. It's a great opening shot before a push that is more than capable of dropping someone on It's own. But everyone just underestimates the crap out of it.
Sure melee kinda stuck but at the same time.... ive killed trios with a saber..... and it felt GOOOOOOOOD
Knowing that melees aren't that great makes getting kills with them even better!
I'd probably use the romero with pax since romero is a decent close range with pax being able to compensate for longer rnage and being able to clean up.

What are you using to get the high saturation?
I run a filter on OBS that boosts the colors. But tweaking the NVIDIA control panel settings or adjusting the Gamma slider in game can also lead to similar results 👍

Caldwell Chain pistols are a favorite for the "Double Double" Load out my friend and I will run... Because no one expects me to dump two chain pistols and have a second set ready.
Great video, but you mention the Nagant Obrez needs bulletgrubber to save ammo and then say that the bornheim/dolch don't need any perks, but both also require bulletgrubber to not lose ammo, no?
Ah, good point! When I said that the weapons don't need any perks, I think in my head I was focused souly on the fact that you get a fast fire rate without the need of fanning. Definitely overlooked the bullet grubber aspect though! I'm not sure how I forgot to bring it up with the Bornheim, as I really give it a hard time bc I don't enjoy it lol. It's a negative for the Bornheim, and while it's super inconvenient for the Dolch I think you can play without bullet grubber as your total ammo pool is 20 rounds. Especially since they nerfed the speed of reloading one by one, you're really encouraged to get to the end of your clip before reloading.
Weapon slot melees are great if you are confident in your primary. Turning nearly all ai into a joke, including bosses. And the reach they have over the knife becomes very apparent when fighting off hounds.
I don't want to base my opinions on streamers and really good players I know but...I've seen hornet, dunno if you know who he is, played the Specter Compact and well...the best reload speed (from empty) out of all the mini shotguns, 2nd best accuracy, it's just really good. Specter as a whole, probably the most rewarding but the most unforgiving shotguns. I've gone and test how the pellet spread looks like in Training mode several weeks ago and it almost looks like a bullet hole at like 3-5m, obviously Romero is more accurate but it has 1 bullet, more than 1 enemy will probably be the end of you. So if you're not center-mass with Specter, it's gonna go sour, people always say Specter's so inconsistent but most of the times, they end up hitting only several pellets on the legs or arms. Got a 5 kills game the other day with Specter, granted one of them is from Romero hatchet but the others were Specter's, I got into a situation where I feel like it wouldn't have been possible without Specter.
While I still can't stand the base ammo Specter, I definitely could have placed it better because of Slugs and Fletchett. Im a very salty person when it comes to the Specter ( for the longest time it was the most inconsistent Shotgun. Like sometimes it would perform amazingly and other times it just shit out for no reason lol ) so I let that affect my placement of it on the tier list. I'm coming around to the base version right now, Slugs + Fletchett is super fun but I still just can't bring myself to like the short Specter.
@@QbertDude that's very much fair, we all got weapons that we cant stand which others find crazy good xV, but if we go by "stats" alone, I'd say Specter Compact is the 2nd most consistent mini shotgun, after romero handcanon but sometimes, the vibes do affect how you perform with a gun haha.
@@QbertDude Also, the terminus handcanon can screw you majorly with its strafe slowdown when you lever...it doesnt couple too well with its wide spread (even wider than rival handcanon), but I suppose flechette helps with that :V

The Dolch was OP, but I personally feel like an in-between for where it was versus where it is now would’ve been better. The special ammo and raw expense of the gun mean something after all, but I imagine this was maybe a “symbolic” nerf since the hardcore community just absolutely *hated* that gun. For me, it’s not worth the expense premium over other options nowadays.

I think I'd put it in B Tier. It's pretty effective as a budget option ( Romero + Scottfield is a super dope combo) and it holds well enough on it's own too. It doesn't blow any of the other pistols out of the water, but it also doesn't underperform in any aspects.

i like to bring as many chain pistols as i can as well as a deringer just so i can unload into a boss or in the general direction of a player, then spend the rest of the game reloading.
But you know caldwell conv. with metal ammo is basically the same as uppercut? xd

I'll defend the hand crossbow here by saying this: whilst yes it lacks the range of almost every other sidearm, its still a very strong weapon in cqc basically acting like a more reliable lemat. Making it the perfect "last stand" sidearm to whip out and kill that one lad who's rushing you with a bomb-lance
thing is that melee weapons consistently one shot and are hard to miss with. a very close range i might prefer one over a shot gun

i love my dual suppressed poison nagant pistols
sound traps? gone, grunts? gone, armored and immolators? gone, boss health bar? gone (except spider they can f right off), fire rate? rivaling pax if you keep the correct clicking pace, ammo capacity? hecking 14/42 and you only need 2 resupplies for full ammo
pvp performance? eeehh. . . about on par with dual pistols anyway with added benefit of blocking the enemy hunters healing for a bit, but thats not the main reason i bring them to a match
Full size Mosin Nagant + Combat Axe was my go to loudout for a week or so. It pissed a lot of people off being killed by a combat axe skin so they knew it was on purpose😂

Honestly I disagree with the melee weapons. I'm usually low 6 or high 5 star and I make many kills with melee weapons because people start panicking when you pull out your saber or bomblance during a gunfight.
The panic factor + cost is something I definitely should've considered more.

I found it odd that you didn't even consider someone might use the obrez in combination with another medium slot weapon
For the list I was mainly considering them as secondaries and how they compliment a loadout as a secondary. But if you want to simultaneously run a Shotgun and a Mosin I guess thats the way to go.
