I am (at least) old enough to be your mother but, at the same time, want to be you when I grow up. I very much admire your strength, fierceness, independence and humor. While watching this particular video, my heart broke for you when the lights didn't seem to work and I cried right along with you when it turned out that they worked after all. Following your journey has provided me with laughter, joy and inspiration during what has, otherwise, been an incredibly challenging time.
I freaking loved your reaction when the lights turned on. Accomplish something new, especially something you learned and figured out all by yourself is one of the best feelings ever.
Thank you so much! I had a hard time learning from a lot of the van builders, so I wanted to try and make it easy to understand for others. So thank you!
Not me crying at the lights working about 2 years after you installed them. 😂 you are truly inspirational and having given me the push to start saving and planning to buy my own van. Thank you ❤❤
I was crying with you when the lights worked. Remember, I'm building my 1989 doge ram and haven't started yet. I've watched your building and Hannah Lee Duggan also. I'm a Wisconsin adventure nature lover. Here we go!
I’m so so proud of you! You taught me something here with how the electric system works, something I’ll keep notes for when I get my own van, believe me you’re doing so much more than you realise I know I’m not the only one. and when those lights came on I was so happy for you! Keep at it, it’s coming together so well and you’re doing this all by yourself! Remember to look at old photos of your van at day 1, it’s really costing you blood sweat and tears lol but you’ll be so happy in the end and it’ll be so worth it! I’m looking forward to seeing your vans progress to completion, it’s got cabin vibes already and is looking amazing! Thank you for taking the time to vlog this and share the technicalities and progress 🤍 don’t worry about posting on schedule, the wait makes it even more exciting for an update.
Out standing!!!! I think your wiring diagram was great,I loved the colored markers. Excellent on telling how to wire the lights.Liked the LED puck lights, great idea on using the connectors (that is great to think about repair and replacement) The way you installed your ceiling with ruvnuts great idea. The stain and to seal the board look great. I know that I have said it before but you are the best first time van customizer that I have seen !! (I have to tell you I had tears in my eyes over how good the light worked) I can't wait for the next video !
I have been trying to figure out how to run lights for months and never understood anything anyone was talking about. Thanks for explaining it so simply and effectively. congrats on getting it to work the 1st try.
I'm probably 2 years behind here but your emotional expression to your achievement was lovely. Most people would leave that out of their videos but this shows true originality. Good for you 🙂
OMG Girl! I had tears flowing right along with you! I have watched dozens of electrical videos and they still never made sense until I watched this one!!! Congratulations not only on a job well done but also for breaking through this mental block I have been carrying with me forever!!
This is so impressive!!! You’re incredible. Im in the process now with my solar and lighting. Panels are up, had to splice them because they locked in my fan. Let’s hope they work!! Waiting in my battery to be delivered.
I am a 55 year old man and I damn near cried with her when the light came on! And her approach to installing the lights has changed my plan for my own install!
This was actually amazing. I’m an undergrad engineer and I hadn’t even known how to truly wire lighting. For someone to do so much research and plan out every part for a project is so inspirational, especially when things seem to go wrong you actually have an answer to them. I can completely understand your sporadic emotions of fear, sadness, and joy. Nothing is better than when you surprise yourself! Keep it up, I’m sure everyone who watches believes in you
You’re right: not a lot of diagrams out there for this. Thanks for sharing yours. Oh, and I cried with you (joyfully) when the lights turned on. I totally felt the triumph with you. Keep the adventure going!
I know this was ages ago, but I was holding my breath with you!!! Because if you successfully did it, there is hope for this 46 year old and her future solar setup!!!!
I have literally woke up in the middle of the night thinking about this very thing, Thank you so much for literally making the light in my head go off!!!
Of all the experts out there, auto electricans etc, you are the only person i have found that has shown how to do this ,everybody else just skips over the connections so Thank you i was seriously confused.
I’m a 54 year old living vicariously thru you. It sounds so strange but I’m really proud of you. Your willingness to be honest and vulnerable is what makes you so fun to watch. Keep it up, so impressed!
As I watch you, it's like watching a younger version of myself..only better! I am so proud of you. There are so few of us..unfortunately, but because of tenacious women like you who are willing to share their knowledge and journey with others ( i know it's a tremendous amount of work) you will cause others to be able to have that same elation you felt and that brought me tears of joy for you. Thanks for sharing. I learned so much from you that I will use in my build.
I have known for four months that living in a van is what I want to do with my life. I am only 14 years old and have already been feeling overwhelmed by the electronic aspect of a van build. But this video alone has literally clarified so much and completely obliterated almost all of my doubts and anxiety. Thank you so much.
Bravo. I am gearing up to buy a van and do a build. I had a RV and hired someone to do repairs and renovation and they destroyed it. I lost about 15K dollars. So, trying to psyche myself into going for a van and doing it myself. I am 60 and have been pretty handy all my life. My only concern is strength. Maybe for some of the heavier things I can find a helper. Your videos are a great source of encouragement for someone who had their dreams of a tiny home smashed. Illl do it myself and if it goes wrong its' all on me. I know the emotion attached with a dream like this. You are doing great.
Girl...I really like your work & you're really cute & funny! I found you because I'm trying to learn how to replace my 1977 dodge rv lights to LED...my new lights have 2 wires & the old ones have 3!!! You are an encouragement to me as I'm renovating it all by myself. I removed & resealed all of the windows & replaced all the vent fans & other things on my roof. I'm 60 & consider myself handy like you. But you blow me away! I will be watching your other videos for 💡. I wish I had someone like you near me...
I too, just like Wendi Straight’s comment from a few months ago, am old enough to be your mom. I am both so proud and envious of you. This way of living, and DIYing was unheard of when I was your age, (except for being known as a hippie LOL), but then again so was the internet. Thank you for sharing your journey, and allowing me to “live” thru you and dream. Can’t wait to see where life takes you! 😍
Wow! I love the emotional reaction at the end. I guess we electromechanical oriented people take these skills for granted. Job well done, and new lifetime skills!
MINUTE 13 YOU SAVED ME 3 MONTHS OF LIGHTING CONFUSION DEAR LORD THANK YOU FOR YOUR VIDEOS!!! Currently doing a van build as well.... going way slower than anticipated. go figure. also 3 months behind on video editing LOL. NO ONE HAS PREWIRE VIDEOS! bless your sweet soul for your content. Catch you on the road.... hopefully soon...at this rate feels like eternity lol -Molly
I was trying to talk myself into no electrical due to it being overwhelming. Not anymore. I also thought I’d never want to leave WI, and though this winter has been very gentle on us, all the sunshine in your videos is making me miss warmth and longer days
This may sound silly but whenever I’m feeling down on myself or like I can’t reach a goal I set for myself…this is my feel good video. I’ve watch it so many times this past year I figured I could at least say thank you 😊 Jen
I just recently stumbled across your channel and have started at your first video. My daughter has always wanted to experience the van life, so I've watched videos for years to get ideas on builds for her. What a true inspiration you are. Not just for young women...but all young people. Whether you think you can or you think you can't...you're right. Strive for positivity in all things and live your best life. Can't wait to catch up to the present. Hope you're doing well.
I stopped this video 2/3 the way through to say this: I'm going to be 53 this year, will have graduated 5 kids from high school, homeschooled the last half stretch of that time, seen my kids come and go from the Army and the Navy, and have two grandchildren, and this girl is literally my HERO! ENOUGH SAID! 💪 Back to the video!
Literally the first time I've ever watched this topic in a van build series and said, "OHHHH!!" total lightbulb moment💡🙌 thank you so much for explaining this so well!!!
Hey Linnea & Akela!!! I've said it before, no need to say it again. But I'll say it anyway. YOU REALLY know WTF you are doing, or can figure it out. The emotion on your face at your sense of accomplishment is priceless. As ALWAYS, another great job and Thank you for sharing. 😎
I love your reactions to a skill you've never done before. You are so proud (and rightly so) of yourself and the joy you share with "girls best friend " (Akela) !
I know I’m late to the party, but I wanted to thank you for all your videos. I’m so proud of you!!! We are getting ready to build our van now, hope to see you out on the road some day
I have an engineering degree and I was overwhelmed by the thought of an electrical install and your video was amazing. You explained it really well and made it seem doable, thank you for taking so much effort in your videos! It’s also helpful to hear your thoughts through your build, so wonderful! 🙏🏻
I binged your tiktok and came here. I'm entirely humbled and inspired and can't wait to see your end result! ****** I cried when your lights came on too lol 🤙🖤
I bought these LED lights using Faroutrides write up - but I don't know jack about electrical - so I was confused by all the connectors and such in their blog post. THANK GOD i found this. Amazing job! Gives me so much more confidence to get this done!
I literally cannot tell you how thankful I am for you and these videos. I've been ridiculously anxious about doing lighting and figuring out anything related to my power setup in my van but watching through your videos tonight has eased my nerves a lot. It is so helpful how you lay everything out in a digestible way, both easy to understand and then easy to implement into my build. I've spent a lot of time worrying about what to buy too, I can't even tell you how helpful it is that you link every item in the description and don't assume that your audience knows anything about what you are talking about before moving to more complicated topics. I hit a huge mental wall tonight and I just want to thank you for helping me get past the same fears that you were experiencing. You are such a bad***
Linnea, the one thing I have been avoiding in this campervan build has been the electricals, I have lots of construction experience but zero electrical experience. Hahaha to be honest I find it hard to grasp the concept of a simple circuit. I've been avoiding it all & now it's Dday. Ceiling boards are going in. This video has been the holy grail, the way you've laid it all out and explained it. Mate. Puurfect. It's given me confidence to dive in. Also not so relevant, but watching your energy, your enjoyment of life, how you smile. I've been flying solo for a while now & how you are, makes me want to fall in love again & share this journey once more. Your an absolute queen. Give Akela a hug for me. Take care lovely.
Ok, third comment here. I'd hate for you to miss some commission, so your link to male connectors actually links to female connectors. Also, you totally helped me wire my puck lights in my van today. You were there every step, with the most clear instructions and I appreciate it. I actually came back in the house to get my laptop to guide me and said "gotta go get Linnea to help me". Thank you so much!
You are fantastic! Seriously, this was so well explained. I have been searching for information about electrical wiring and noone has explained it so well. You give me hope! I bought my van yesterday and I am now going to watch ALL of your videos!! And seriously, you made me tear up when they worked! Legend!
Oh you bloody legend Linnea!!! You made me emotional as I am also in your boots , doing it all by myself and learning things and when I nail them (pardon the pun) I get So proud of myself that I did it on my own! 😊 Sparky work is the last thing that I haven’t learnt yet and can I tell you sweet, you’ve made it clearer than Any other video I’ve seen! ❤😂🎉 😊 *Thankyou* Beauty Warrior Woman 🤜🏼🤛🏼🌈💗☺️
I know absolutely nothing about electrical anything. But, if I were a lot younger, I might try it. But time for me is fleeting by so on my build, I'll probably use some small solar lights of some kind . But you are amazing about learning this very hard stuff. Thanks for an interesting time shared with you and your wonderful doggie. From Central Oklahoma.
I’m new to your channel, found a clip on Facebook that led me to your youtube. I’ve already watched a lot of your travelling blogs and decided to watch the van build series. I totally love it ❤️ When you switched that light on tho…..biggest moment in everything I’ve watched. I felt it…….Brought a tear or two! lol Two years after you’ve made all this, it’s still impacting ppl….amazing work! Have to say I admire your detail in everything too. So I think you’re fab and Akela is a babe ❤️
Cool to see you going with walnut stain rather than the trendy white and grey.. be YOU. 👏 Thanks for explaining the three way attachment, yay lights work, congratulations.
This is a shot in the dark here, here we go. My wife and I are doing our own van build and we watch your videos regularly for guidance. We have made it to the ceiling install and we were wondering what you used to secure the boards to the framing pieces. Thanks for the inspiration!
I have to know....what music is that from like the 8min mark to about the 11 min mark. Damn that's good. Vance Joy? You're fearless in everything and what a great attitude. I'm going to watch with my son who is a freshman in college. Keep up your great work.
Sometimes when I'm feeling tired from work all week and don't feel like working on my van build, ill watch your videos and it gives me that little bit of motivation to get to work :)
Amazing! This has been my favorite video of yours so far. To be honest, it is the best video I have ever watched in regards to van builds...and I have watched a ton. (1) The raw emotion, your tenacity and never quit attitude is inspirational, and gives me hope. (2) I find electrical stuff extremely overwhelming. You taught me more in 1 short segment about lighting than I have seen in literally hundreds of videos. So THANK YOU for taking hundreds of hours of research and giving it to us in just a few short minutes. (3)Akela stole a bone!!! Too cute! I'm really looking forward to watching the rest of your videos.
OMG this " *unbearable anxiety ". Then when you start crying with tears of joy, I thought Yep, pretty much every project on a van. You explain things very well, visual diagrams included, with detail others leave out, and better than anyone else I've seen on RUclips, plus you let everyone else know this shit isn't easy, which gives confidence and realistic expectations to folx who are born into a society that second guesses their abilities at every turn. Well done and thanks for this tut!
Super ballsy to finish the ceiling before testing the power to the lights, glad it worked out. I'm still hunting for a van myself, your video detailing your search helped reduce my frustration with the process.
You have encouraged me to do what you're doing for my son who is in the service, so when he gets home it will be something to see. You are like a daughter I never had. I thank you and don't ever let someone tell you you can't do that, you can do anything you want.
I just ran across your videos today and just finished the last one. You are absolutely awesome! I don't have a daughter but if I did I would pray that God would have blessed me with one just like you. Every time you tear up I just want to give you a big hug.
You are amazing I do this for a living to watch you do this very proud when I saw you do the lights and you broke down crying joy of happiness it brought tears to my eyes to see how happy you were from accomplice
Girl, you inspire me! Thanks for answering my solar question. I'm 62, I just missed my dream Promaster (here in NC!) because I was 4 hours away and didn't have my financing together. It sold in 2 days - really not a surprise - it was a great deal. Thanks for sharing the mistakes as well as the victories. I'm learning so much from you. I also really like your music, so that has turned me onto a whole new thing.
Thank you so much! Sorry to hear about your missed opportunity with the Promaster, hopefully you have been able to find a few more that you are interested in :)
WARNING FOR THOSE BUILDING: 5:38 when installing the front frame, please don’t trust glue to support the weight! I followed these steps exactly, and after 3 days in the summer heat the ceiling gave up and fell. I opted instead to remove 3-4in segments of the headliner above the cab where you can see an additional spar to drill into instead. Liquid nail is still a great idea, but I also simply drilled 1x3 planks directly from the the frame near the MaxAir fan directly to the spar above the headliner. To help visualize it better, I opted to not go horizontal with the 1x3 along the entire front spar, but instead to go parallel with the van directly from the wooden frame behind the MaxxAir fan, to the 3x4in cut outs on the headiner directly into the metal spar with some dabs of liquid nail. This solved the issue of creating support for the ceiling, but WITHOUT removing the headliner. Thanks so much to Linnea for this great series, this was just one change I thought to bring up
Yes for sure I wish I did the same thing! My ceiling hasn’t fallen or anything, but I can tell that it isn’t holding up like screws would (of course). Thank you for the time you spent adding this information!
You are a total superstar...in everything you have done on your own...remarkable young lady..I’ve now learned how to wire my 4 12v puck lights now 🥂👌🏴 Glasgow, Scotland. Thanks 🚌🚐
I have been researching electrics for months and months and understand almost everything. What I couldn't find for the life of me, was information on how to wire lights in parallel and what connectors to use. This video was so valuable- thank you!
I have watched this episode 10 times! I started my ceiling and puck light install today and cried half the day. So I’m back to watch it again and try again tomorrow! I just love you! You help me believe I can do it💜
When my parents tell me I don’t know enough to convert a van, you give me hope and confidence
I am so glad :) You got it!
@@Linneaandakela Thanks I'm in the early stages so I'm trying to pick the right van

She looks like my math teacher 😂
So funny!!
Yes!, same here! She’s so brave and smart. Even as a middle aged woman, I can’t imagine doing my van build without a *lot* of my dad’s help ☺️
Chose this over Netflix. Wasn’t disappointed, you’re a beast
Same!!
You explain everything in detail, and I love love love it.
Right! The moment she flipped that light switch! The drama and excitement! I literally whooped in delight!
I freaking loved your reaction when the lights turned on. Accomplish something new, especially something you learned and figured out all by yourself is one of the best feelings ever.
@@seanwan30have you ever heard of happy tears? Tears of joy? There is a reason people cry at weddings. No need to hate.
After watching all your videos, I'm so emotionally invested in your van build that I feel like a proud Dad. 😂 You're killing it!
I love the absolute joy on your face when the lights turned on.
You explain this better than most people who build vans for a living. You rock!

Wow! Thanks for taking the anxiety out of putting 12v puck lights in for me. That was so great! Thank you!!!
Ahh thank you so much!
I cry with you every time I watch this video. What an accomplishment! I hope I have the same experience.
OMG... Your reaction to your lights working is so precious!
This is the first real electrical semantic that I have seen. Very nice.
You are fantastic! Seriously, this was so well explained. I have been searching for information about electrical wiring and noone has explained it so well. You give me hope! I bought my van yesterday and I am now going to watch ALL of your videos!! And seriously, you made me tear up when they worked! Legend!
Thank you so much for showing the specifics of the puck light connection.. you seem to be the only one to show this!
So great to see such an independant person male or female challenge themseves to try this. Great job. Never give up.
I seriously love watching you build this van!! It's so inspiring for me as a female! I look forward to the finished product.
I thought we would need to hire out the lighting--but you've made it so simple, I believe I can do it! Thank you so much!
I totally love it ❤️
When you switched that light on tho…..biggest moment in everything I’ve watched. I felt it…….Brought a tear or two! lol
Two years after you’ve made all this, it’s still impacting ppl….amazing work! Have to say I admire your detail in everything too.
So I think you’re fab and Akela is a babe ❤️
Cool to see you going with walnut stain rather than the trendy white and grey.. be YOU. 👏
Thanks for explaining the three way attachment, yay lights work, congratulations.
You just saved me soooo much time with your electrical tutorial! Thank youuuu
Sometimes when I'm feeling tired from work all week and don't feel like working on my van build, ill watch your videos and it gives me that little bit of motivation to get to work :)
I know this is a old video but I just wanted to say this was so inspiring ! Well Done!
I watched your light reaction 5x in a row. I loved it!
my favorite was the brief moment of disappointment before you messed with the dimmer switch, LoL.. Good Fcn Job!
At 20:20… I had that same feeling today. Thank you so much! My lights came on. Your explanation wins the internet!
Super ballsy to finish the ceiling before testing the power to the lights, glad it worked out. I'm still hunting for a van myself, your video detailing your search helped reduce my frustration with the process.
You are the first person to explain series and parallel in a way I totally understood. Thank you for breaking it down that way.
Well thank you so much! This warmed my heart. Welcome :)
You have no idea how much ease you and your videos give me. Thank you
You are amazing I do this for a living to watch you do this very proud when I saw you do the lights and you broke down crying joy of happiness it brought tears to my eyes to see how happy you were from accomplice
WARNING FOR THOSE BUILDING:
5:38 when installing the front frame, please don’t trust glue to support the weight!
Thanks 🚌🚐
Thank you so so much ♥️
Great tutorial. I get it. Nobody so far has gone into this much detail. Thank you, thank you, thank you.😍
Thank you Linnea for showing the detail of the electrical. It finally made sense to me !!
Yay!! I am so glad it helped!!
Omg I was so gutted for you and then when they worked I actually weld up. I'm crying for you. 👏👏👏👏
You're right, it's hard find any videos that explain this. Thank you so much for teaching us!
I am absolutely feeling everything in this series so far. The highs and the lows. Just wonderful to watch.
1st vid I've seen explaining those lights well done young lady
I have been researching electrics for months and months and understand almost everything. What I couldn't find for the life of me, was information on how to wire lights in parallel and what connectors to use. This video was so valuable- thank you!
I was super happy for you when the lights came on! Very, very cool!
I have watched this episode 10 times! I started my ceiling and puck light install today and cried half the day. So I’m back to watch it again and try again tomorrow! I just love you! You help me believe I can do it💜
Love it!! I hope you have it up and working soon ♥️
