. We try to restore a huge Screw Press. The Screw was bent by the previous owner and we had to do just about everything to try and get it straight enough to use. Me too! At one point though I was pretty sure We would have to have a whole new screw made and that would have cost more then the whole machine.

About 1,375 olives are pressed in order to make 1 liter of olive oil, 8,435 sunflower seeds to make a liter of sunflower oil...

Chris is wearing a hoody with a mosaic Damascus anvil. I have to wonder if this has ever been done before and would the anvil be any good?
I'm sure small ones have been made but def not big ones and they could be hardened nicely so I don't see why it wouldn't work

I'd recommend the Astora Straight Sword from Dark Souls
I grew up in Connecticut, and while most people think of expansive estates and well-off white people that seem to be cloned from a very shallow gene pool when they think of the state, artifacts like this are unambiguous reminders of my home state's deep blue collar history. I'm from Bridgeport, and the namesake company's mills are still highly sought-after, even though said company has been history for a long time.
Yea some of the greatest antique tool dealers are up there.
The only thing better than getting an old tool, is cleaning it up and fixing it, then using it.

Hey guys, I know this video is not about forging but I do hace a question on that topic, id like to get into forging et i can’t find what kind of software is commonly used to draw the layouts for things like the general shape of a blade or even the fittings.
Would you guys have any software you use and recommand ?
If anyone has an answer I’ll gladly take it
I used AutoCad for years. Now I usually just sketch it by hand.

I am a big fan of tool restoration/material recycling. So many people throw things away, that can be fixed up and used. We waste so much in this country.

Really Sad to read that Ilya left the Channel. His vast Knowledge & Skills were the main reason for me to start watching Blacksmithing videos. TBH The Bladeshow videos really showed the difference in Mentality so I feared that would cause Drama in the long run.. Does Anybody know the name Ilya's new shop.
@@goat9199 hey that piece was killer for a ten day build! Remember during this whole time period I was teaching myself a whole new craft of film making and editing. Learned pretty darn fast too. I didn't get the luxury of just making things.

That came together beautifully. When I was young we took a tour of the state capitol building and at the time they still had about a 50% smaller screw press that used to be used for embossing the state seal, and I was terrified of that thing. You can get so much power out of just a sturdy screw and a wheel.
For the replacement, the company contracted out was using a hydraulic press to emboss the seal on the covers, and allegedly the nearby university could tell when it was running on its seismometers.
yes sir! Hydraulic def took over, but nothing beats the control of a good screw press.

A very good restoration, congratulations on the final work, that old gold paint was excellent.
Regarding how to straighten the threaded shaft, why didn't you use a lathe? Wouldn't it have easier?
What is the name of the technique that was used for pickling?

It was so far out that a lathe would have taken almost a 1/4" off at the bent part. Also we are blacksmiths not machinists. Pickling ?

On those dovetails yall braised. You can always silicone bronze tig braise them in jn the furture for places you need more strenth than brass offers
True. It's not in a huge structural spot. This was more of a vanity repair to be honest

@@ThatWorks Harsh, certainly, but no part of what they wrote was false. The press was not shown being used in the video, uploads have been spotty, and Ilya has not been around for a long time now. Literally nothing was false.

Unfurtunatly old tools often do have lead paint.
