    Nice video showing this process. When the water treatment program is well managed, and the engineers put in a good quality filter the tubes won't need to be punched for many years. This is a band aid solution to poor water quality in the loop. More problems are seen on the condenser side but on older loops the evaporator side can also get pretty dirty from corrosion in the pipes.

    • @ryanmalin
      @ryanmalin Год назад

      filter? You talking about the pump strainers?

    • @kb_100
      @kb_100 Год назад +2

      @@ryanmalin not pump strainers. Those are like 1/8" and don't remove small deposit-forming particulates. I'm talking about side stream filters which continually filter a small portion of the recirculating water. Sand filters work best but you need to keep up with the PM.

    Nice video. Couple items noted. The Goodway machine is supposed to be laying down when in use. The label on the machine says that. Your supposed to set the cable stop so the brush only comes out half way on the opposite end. Also, why not brush tubes from opposite end from marine water box? It’s much easier.

    Interesting to see you guys open up both ends of the condenser barrel. We only open up one end of the barrel and punch the tubes. I never worked on a centrifugal chiller with hinges on the endplates. We always had to build up a portable A-frame or T-frame rig assembly and then attach a chainfall to it to support the endplate as we broke lose the bolts and then lowered it to the floor.The A-frames are for the really heavy weight.

      Hinges are a factory only option and are awesome when specc'd. Opening the ends on a 3000 ton YST is easy as pie.... brushing the tubes is another story... for a junior tech.

    Fair job, but it takes more than brushing tubes to get them clean and up to factory specs. Testing type of scale built up and circulating proper chemicals to soften scale must be performed before punching tubes. There are many types of scale depending on water source. Proper Cooling Tower treatment will prevent most problems. Regards YORKPR.

    Those goodway tube punching machines are supposed to run flat not sitting up like that. Ive spoke with the manufacture about it. I have 6 1000 ton chillers at my building in chicago and recently had to purchase a new goodway so we wanted to put as little wear on it as possible. From my understanding its harder on the clutch due to the angle of the rod when its upright.

    I usually put a brush at the end of the row I'm working on just in case I lose my place. Our condenser has about 700 tubes so its a lot easier to skip a row and have the eddy current guy get pissed that he can't fit his probe through a dirty tube.

    guys the way that you are removing the bolts, its easy to damage the threads on the H.E. Also, if you are going to reuse the bolts, do you inspect them or not? I believe its essential to check them prior reinstate them.

    Hi Jumper man Tech, what is the range of cost for a mechanical cleaning like you showed here? Don't need the exact price but just as a reference...

    Hello. Quick question. I am working at a new facility and wanted to know when you are replacing the gasket for the end cap do you apply a joint sealing compound with the gasket or is it not necessary?

    • @JumpermanTech
      @JumpermanTech  4 года назад +1

      Hello Samuel, we usually use spray adhesive to hold it in place but it's not necessary. Gasket alone is fine👍Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for weekly uploads. Sending blessings your way from NYC! Stay safe brother

    Goodway does make what's called a chiller Bib to set in front and collect all of the water coming out of the tubes and funnels it to the floor drain, they are worth it.

  • @BlueZue19
    @BlueZue19 3 года назад +5

    This way seems way harder than the way I’ve done previously. Why not punch tubes from side without water box first and removing hinged side once done punching tubes and cleaning trash. Also, while brushing tubes, why not add plastic and drain pan to lower the amount of mess a little bit.

      Look at your approach temps. If they go up, your tubes are dirty, and you won't get good heat transfer.

      Cost. That's why. It's the same in AHUs. Often, you can tell the high end AHUs and cheap ones by the access doors. High end equipment will have nice hinged latching doors and crap will have screw on panels.

      @juanzingarello4005 3 года назад +1

      @@greatsoutherntrendkill79 Its not just filters that need access. The entire unit needs periodic inspection and servicing at some point. A high end AHU like AAON RN series RTU is built with maintenance in mind. Direct drive fans, single piece dampers, all hinged doors, etc. but a generic Trane Voyager will have crappy screw on panels where screws get lost all the time.

    Whats considered the useful life of a large commercial chiller (ie for say an airport)?

    • @27ftWhaler
      @27ftWhaler 5 месяцев назад

      30 years is common and they can last must longer if well maintained and tower water is good. I once had a customer request a spare part for a chiller that was manufactured in 1918. We couldn’t build the part but we had drawings if they could get it manufactured somewhere.
