    I worked around these types of machines for over 40 years. Retired now I miss those machines. The sound is music to my ears. I did use ear protection.

    Gotta love soft starts. A little surging initially, then it started to smooth out in the end, good. Nice splits on the input/output of your chill waters. You got a nice system going on there. Just the surging might be something to keep an eye on.

      the foley effects for "spaceship" often use startup sounds from large industrial machines.

    I finally had my first exposure to a chiller the other night on an emergency after hours service call. It was a Trane Centravac centrifugal chiller, about maybe half the size of this one. Don’t remember the tonnage but it took something like 560 lbs of R22. I had no idea just how ridiculously loud these machines were until it roared back to life. My head still feels weird from it. 😆

    • @thecarboneacademy2615
      @thecarboneacademy2615  Год назад +6

      A Trane Centravac is a low pressure chiller so It most likely would not use R22 it was probably R123. But they are nice machines and its definitely a sound you will remember.

    • @gregmercil3968
      @gregmercil3968 Год назад +1

      @@thecarboneacademy2615 the data tag itself on the unit stated it uses R22. This was a “Series R” manufactured in 1996, and was on a hospital building, if that helps.

    • @thecarboneacademy2615
      @thecarboneacademy2615  Год назад +3

      You're positive it was a centravac? R22 is a high pressure refrigerant and would not typically be used in a low pressure chiller. Would usually be R123 or R1233zd. I would love to see that data plate if possible. This is very interesting.

    • @ZRock7771
      @ZRock7771 10 месяцев назад

      @@thecarboneacademy2615I thought r22 was a medium pressure refrigerant?

    • @craigr6186
      @craigr6186 9 месяцев назад

      R22 is high pressure, Trane only uses 11,123,1233zd and the last one is like two to three years old. R22 wasn’t really popular in centrifugals. York and Carrier over the years have used 11,12.134a,22 ( screw machines) York used 123 carrier didn’t. I worked for York and carrier for a total of 23 years

      For putting gas in from flat, add vapor until it’s about 35#, then push pull it in.
      If your topping it off, then just run a hose from the tank to the evaporator barrel, and let er fly
      Make sure you do the opposite when recovering to make sure you don’t freeze the tubes!!!!
