  • In the first episode of Shut up Sunday, I remove the 4 carburetors and manifold from a 1982 GL1100 Goldwing Aspencade.
    Subscribe for more of this weekly series plus the rebuild and reinstall of these carbs.
    I am starting a new weekly series called Shut up Sunday where I take a small visually self explanatory job from the previous weeks work and show it without narration.

    I just reinstalled my carbs on my GL1100 and here is how I did it. I removed the head pipes, removed the vacuum caps and slides from the right 2 carbs (as sitting on the bike), feed the carbs 1/4 way in (from the left side of the bike as if you were sitting on it) and hook up the throttle cables, then work the slowly and gently through, the plenum will want to hang up on the fan motor if you're doing it right, keep working them across watching for cables and obstacles, pull the carbs a little further to the right and reinstall the 2 RH slides and caps, then re-install the head pipes (I added a thin layer of grease to help them slip on as well as seal, I left the boot clamps to the carbs loose until I had all of the head pipes installed and semi snugged down..... This seemed to work for me, I'm not going to say it was easy, but I really do not see another way to do it. Not even sure how the heck I got the carbs out without removing the RH caps and slides. Hope this helps someone(s).

      Thanks, I got mixed feedback on the Shut up sunday. Glad someone liked them. I will do more in the future, but it has to be stuff like this that does not need any commentary. Good luck on the carbs. The 1000 carbs are pretty much the same as I remember. Not a difficult job, you just have to do it 4 times, lol.

      @@theeddies U bet! I'm pretty good with carbs myself it's just getting them in and out of these bikes that's my big hassle! And it's always great when you can hit RUclips and see what you're in for! The first thing I thought when I started watching this is, s*** I got to pull the fairing forward. LOL

    • @theeddies
      @theeddies  5 лет назад

      @@searching4mine393 yeah they are a bit of a pain. The big thing was removing the caps on the opposite side to get past the frame. That and all the decorative chrome doo dads. Getting all the linkages and crossover tubes back together is fun as well. Unfortunately, after all that work we found a bad piston/cylinder in this motor. The compression was marginal and I thought it would come back but nope.

      @@theeddies Oh man I hope I don't find that problem! Thanks for the tip! Was the mileage pretty high on that one?

    • @theeddies
      @theeddies  5 лет назад

      @@searching4mine393 50k miles as I remember. I'd say low for those motors, but there were a few signs of bad maintenance, so it was likely that. Thanks for the sub!
