- I get asked if Football Manager should have difficulty levels a lot and I always say it should not. My reason? You make your own difficulty level on FM. The open nature of Football Manager means you get to decide who you play with, who you sign, and what you do. With that in mind, this video is about something that can make FM a lot more fun and help you live out your wonderkid hoarding fantasies in a way that feels like it could be realistic if a board focused on this approach.
It’s all a long-winded way to get the ‘I start in the lowest possible league because I like pain’ crowd to get over themselves. I love you. I am one of you. But, FM is a video game and helping people enjoy gaming is a core mission on this channel. So, let people have fun, and maybe when you’re feeling down, try a wonderkid collection save to lighten the mood and have a happy FMing out there.

'Promising' is what you are looking for, you can also sort out players with really bad like mentals, really low determination etc. or really bad natural fitness. But youth intake players I think will show promising etc. I've done this before but not to steal them on youth contracts, just to find players so you go through all the youth intakes like this of clubs with good facilities, add them all to a shortlist and then scout the ones with either 'promising' media description or just ones with good starting attributes/good personalities etc.

A small trick: If you pay the compensation, there is generally a sell on clause. So, instead of clicking "approach to sign", make a transfer offer (remove and exclude the sell on clause from the negotiation). Also the fee's even slightly cheaper this way. For example, they accept 550K if the compensation is 600K+100K+%15 sell on.

Ever since I got into the "non-league to legends" rule I "cannot" really do this. But what I can do is send my scouts to all the U-19 international competitions. Usually brings up a few free/affordable gems too.

It should go without saying that his doesn't really work if you're managing in England due to overly restrictive WP rules.
I also would say it doesn't really work if you're managing in Italy for Non-EU players due to Non-EU transfer rules in Italy

Its still functional when poaching from countries that dont require a WP, but yea it's not nearly as busted as it is in other saves where you can sign players from anywhere

It can. You can sign and play youth players from anywhere. If you sign them when they're 18, they'll be homegrown by the time they're 21, and get English nationality by the time they're 23, meaning you can avoid all contract and WP issues by signing players at 18, giving them a contract that's either 5 years long or has an optional 5 years, or simply renewing their contract for 3 years when they're 20.

similarly i learned that teams in the US outside of the MLS (including their academy teams) produce a bunch of very good young players you can just sign on a free until they sign for an MLS team. a lot of them will be from smaller football nations too, i found some decent somalian and vietnamese talents through this!

There are like 20-25 low level US clubs that tend to produce players with 110-140 PA. Obviously that's not going to cut in the Premier League or the Big 5, but if you're doing a "Build a Nation save" those guys are invaluable.

I am on FM 21 playing as Brighton - and I have done something similar, albeit without unhiding the hidden attributes. I didn't know about the Intake and trying to poach kids cheap - but I have accumulated 6 Wonderkids (1 suddenly dropped to 3 star potential so I sold him for a tidy profit) on my roster and we are lighting the Premier League on fire!
That's how I ended up with 150 loans per season. My loan manager should get a raise. He won't.
Do you loan out for full wages and 1:4 of the transfer value as a loan fee?

Is there a way to turn off the "wanted by this or that club" feature on the player search? When scrolling through looking for players and noticing a random 17 year old is wanted by PSG or City maybe that player is worth being scouted instantly.
I've been doing this for years and it's how I find all my best wonderkids, honestly the easiest way to build a dynasty. If you ask for a scouting report on all of the new youth intake players every day as soon as the day starts, your scouts will often have a prelim report ready by the next morning, and then you can just repeat that every day.
is this the case if you request like 5 reports from teams, can only seem to have one scout do all reports ? and seems to take 4-5 days for me

Been doing this for years. I make a SL called YI(year) and add all of them. I usually check every couple of days when a good nation is having an in intake. Then you can sort by players that are on a youth contract. It is tedious but I find it fun.

This is exactly what Barcelona and Ajax do to bring players in. That's why their youth setup is only exceptional from U16 and older. This is super realistic
Athletic Club and Real Sociedad are still exemplars down below that level with affiliates scattered throughout their region of Basque Country, but even the most effective of canteras/youth setups are poaching. In the case of these Basque ones, they're hanging around Pamplona.

How does this affect on the scouts asuming that i have 20 scouts all asigned to a different region? Or this is faster if you ask to do it to a scout that does not have a current assignmet?

1 tip for people playing lower reputation leagues and trying to get yout intakes i.e. from Chelsea - offer player playing time. Like squad in 23, regular start in 24... because if you won"t, he will reject you. Tbh it"s understandable, in real world would you rather start your carrer in Premier League club, or move from you family to somewhere in Belarus.
The point is, they will accept and even if you wont start them, you can just reduce playing time and if you have excellent morale in cabin, they will just drop concerns after captn talks to them.
Does this work on FM23? I'm trying to sign players, but they say that they are not interested, either bc they prefer to continue their development at X club, or that they won't be able to complete the move in the near future... (i'm playing in the brazillian league btw)

I've done this a lot, and this is how I've found some really good players for really cheap. Sometimes the players get to the club and are just absolutely awful because there's such a short window to get these guys cheaply often
It is an interesting strategy. I do sometimes put a lot of effort into looking at youth intakes around the world, but that's usually when I'm running a top division team that has a big scouting budget. Right now I'm doing non-league to legend and I'm in tier 3 in Belgium, so this isn't really an option on the scale shown in this video. BUT I can do something similar with youth intakes in Belgium. I obviously will know the youth intake date, so I can just immediately look at the intakes around the Belgian leagues and see if I can find someone I can steal.
This isn't always quite as easy as it sounds, because often youth prospects coming through at top clubs would prefer to remain at those clubs, and will often take the contracts they are offered from those clubs. You can get around this by offering a contract that they find "very acceptable" which means they sign it immediately without waiting but it can be hard to throw that much money at a 15-16 year old. Potential is so hit and miss too that you just never know sometimes. I've done stuff like this for years in FM and I don't really don't think it makes the game too easy, especially with attribute masking on

also, scouting u-19 international competition (for me i just check every u-19 national team that attend that competition) is also works.
This trick is also great you're managing a national team with an awful league, you can easily get the regen to switch to your country (if it's their second nationality) from the nationality of the bigger nations they are

Still trying to figure this out. So how exactly do I know who is a wonderkid? I dont see any attributes (typically I can see a range of people, then I have to scout them) and the media description doesnt say wonderkid for any of these players. Also when I went to sign one of them, the contract didnt start for another 3 years!! Im confused

I’ve done this many many times but get done with the sell on clauses. I only really do it if my own intake sucks (which was basically every season). It does work but if the whole purchase offer works below the compensation then that’s the way to go

Personally i feel more accomplishment nurturing average joe to it max potential (the black star turn gold), as with wonderkid case it is easier as long they don't injured bad and play alright

If the wonder kid has a release clause makes sure you add a large amount of selling team wage contribution because they have to accept it either way

@@derekgalbraith1508 Tried and tested. When you think about it if the fee is the same or more as the release clause, the selling team must accept. There is no contract clause saying there is no this or that.

It's called youth sniping and real clubs also do it. It's a grey line which have resulted in big clubs being punished for it multiple times. I usually do it for some clubs in Portugal when I play smaller clubs. If you're fast you can usually get a scout report before the clubs secure the players with contracts. I even managed to steal a guy that won the Ballon D'or 4-5years later this way while playing a save in Sweden 😛 (Liverpool came and stole him from me the same summer as his superyear of course... 😪 )

problem with this method is that often besides paying a bit you also automatically give out like 5, 10, 15% of a future sale
and when you´re talking about young kids who a few years later might be sold... that adds up to a lot of lost millions
usually if a player´s fee is idk lets say ~600k you can sign him for like 1M easy, with most of that coming in future years and/or after X games/goals/caps (which he´ll never reach 9/10)
so i just prefer to pay a bit more now (which i dont really pay as most of those payments dont even materialize) and not lose up to dozens of millions in future sales cause of the %%%
good vid tho, it can work, but yeah, systemically going over to eeevery country is just overkill for me. but who cares, its just a game xD

Pay attention to contract starting dated. The guy you were offering a contract to in teh exmaple would only join in 2027 (you're in 2024) due to rules about young players moving abroad. The salary is also too low for a work permit. So they join in 3 years time without a work permit. I stopped doing this as I found that too much of a gamble, not to mntion tedious, but it can be still worth it focusing on local players.
How can you do this on the Xbox version or can you not?

When i do it try to make an offer to one of the youth intake players from another club, it already seems like they have a contract with the other club - and this is even when i try to offer them a contract on the day of the youth intake.

In FM 20, Japanese and Korean youth players used to gen in as free agents. By the time I took my team from League One to the Prem, half my team was Asian.

Get them on a trial the same date as they appear and you won’t have to scout the player(s). Works only if the club allows you to sent them on a trail of cours. Doesn’t work always.

You can negotiate that out by going to the dropdown where the sell on would be, and set it to "exclude from negotiations" during your initial offer

Domniating is the whole point of my saves I get an okay club and make them dominate the world for atleast 10 years, I just like developing the young talent and having good young players mean you will always dominate.

You can usually negotiate below the compensation on a youth contract usually, without editing the game or getting lucky on end of contracts it’s the cheapest way to get the best young players in the world
It’s quite literally a 200 PA person for at the absolute max 700k up front
People really do like complaining for the sake of complaining. Most of the players you compensate you could still for 5-10x the compensation fee AND sell on clauses
