That bilge is super clean. I have to winterise my 2000 Bayliner capri. Just drained the block but did not know about the drain for the manifold until I saw this video. Thanks.
Thank you for the video. I have used it every year when I winterized my boat. No problems in the last three years and 2 of those years were in Minot, North Dakota. Thanks again.
👍👋Wow!! Hats off to you!! Amazing!! We’re not worthy!!! Your bilge IS spotless!!! I HOPE YOU HAVE VIDEOS ON THAT!!!! I would eat in there!! I was trying to not be OCD about my boat....but I was triggered....sooooo I’m cleaning the bilge to spotless condition all day tomorrow!!!!! 👍😃👋💞
Good video. But you forget to put antifreeze to the block. Antifreeze will not let the block oxidize inside during cold winter days. I am using regular RV antifreeze. You need about two gallons of it for 3.0 Mercruiser. And easy way to drain the block, just push those two hoses down. Thanks for video.
Great video! Thanks, very helpful. I have the same boat. Likewise I want to winterized and then pull out on warmer days. Question, I didn’t see you address water in the lower end, or did you just lower the outdrive to drain? I did just pull the lowest black tube and poured some antifreeze down it, blew on the hose and it did come out the holes in the outdrive. Thoughts? ...many thanks!
Certified marine mechanic here never fog out your engine like that untill it dies ! It should stay running while you fog untill you see smoke out the exhaust then shut down
'Burned Out Boat' in 4 clips being posted this week shows the failure of a professional winterization. Mid-winter in a marina one of the boats exploded causing a 4 boat fire. 2 were totaled.
Pretty good job. But as an Alaskan who know about really winterizing a boat, you always leave the tank full (or very close) you will do much more damage to your engine system if you let your tank build up moisture during the thaw. Other than that pretty good.
Another great video. Excellent detail on 2 different ways to drain the block and manifold of excess water, I'm confused why water doesn't come shooting out of those drain tubes as soon as the engine is started. Also any idea on the exact procedure for winterizing with antifreeze as per the merc manual that you referenced? Thanks man!
When connecting the water (garden hose), are you propping/clamping the hose near the outboard part of the Mercruiser near the prop to have water flowing into the 8 little holes?
Thanks for the great video. I see that you just drained out the water from those two hoses (exchaust & block), but do you need to open the drain plugs too ?
thanks for your video sir paid $130 bucks just to get the water drained from my block i was told that i had to take it back to get it ready for the water again i noticed the guy left does two blue hoses disconnected now he does not have time to get it back running i connected the houses back but there is no water in the block should i just put my water hose to it .and than crank the motor? will it get damaged if i crank it with out putting water before i crank it ?
So you winterized it then said you didn't unhook the battery because you may take it back out? You can take it out after winterizing? Do you have to winterize again if you do take it out?
If inboard engine draws water to cool from lake/river--for sure. Otherwise, there will be water inside engine to freeze. Don't know answers for other engines. 'Burned Out Boat' 4 clip series being posted shows results of professional winterization fail. 4 boat fire caused in marina mid-winter by a boat exploding.
just got my boat this season. I'm a little gun shy on doing it myself great video. off topic question i have a mercury 4.3 and an alarm sounds intermittently at running speed ..any suggestions? thanks
I have a sea ray 17.5' boat with the Mercruiser 3.0 engine. I used seafoam to stabilize the fuel. Do you think this is ok? Also I read through the manual and it never says to fog it. I live in texas and the boat is kept in my garage. Thanks !!
Should be just fine. Seafoam is good. The fogging just keeps the moisture in the engine while in storage from rusting or corroding which you see more when storing outdoors covered than indoors.
Just a quick query. I am keeping my boat in a heated garage. So do i need to do all these steps. It seems i just need to do the fuel stabiliser and battery disconnect. Am i right?
About the drive lube monitor container up top of the engine, do you recommend keeping the top lube vent (down on the outdrive) closed and then pumping the lube all the way up until that top container is filled up? I notice you did not mention the lube monitor container. Or else, just fill that container up by hand from up top is fine?
When I replaced my gimbal bearing in the video, I pumped it up to he upper vent on the drive then put the screw back in and then kept pumped into the container. note I did empty my container when I changed my drive oil
Fiero880, you seem to know everything :) If I wanted to add antifreeze for winter storage, what hose(s) would I pull off and pour antifreeze in? And would I leave the blue drain hoses off until antifreeze comes out since they are the draining points?? Having trouble finding a video showing this for some reason........
Honestly, the easiest contraction I have seen if you want to use antifreeze is the pink RV antifreeze attached to a tank that connects to the muffs. Just like running the engine on the garden hose except you run it on this tank. I do not have the link at this time but google it. There is a RUclips video showing it.
I've seen it, not a fan of that setup personally. I'm over on the BOC forum now getting opinions. Found the service manual online, recommends removing the thermostat and pouring the antifreeze in :)
Craig did you determine which black hoses to pull and pour antifreeze into? I believe it’s all 3 but I’m still learning :) ... I have the camco bucket to use with muffs but would prefer to pour down the tubes, use the boat on nicer days and then repeat.
Does anyone have an answer to this? I'm not a fan of the antifreeze tank and would like to know where to pour the antifreeze into which hoses on this type of Mercruiser 3.0.
@@anonymouse7074 Since he didn't answer I will give my advice. I have the same boat and just spent countless hours polishing with 3m marine polish. That's whats going to bring the shine back on any dull gel coat. On top of that to protect it and add a little extra shine i HIGHLY recommend Collinite 845 wax. It's super easy to use and requires very little "elbow grease" to get it wipes off. I use it on a fleet of 35 limousines as well and LOVE it. Cheers.
Since the gas tank is plastic, this really isn't necessary. But a metal tank, then yes I would top it up completely.....just my opinion from winterizing lawnmowers/motorcycles etc for years in Canada
1984 volvo a125 does it use antifreeze to cool motor and pull in water to cool somthing else it has 2 orange tanks or 1 but 2 caps one on left has strainer basket are they connected or seperate. thanks i dont know just bought.
The AQ125 has a closed cooling system. It takes in raw water, then through the strainer if you still have yours, then through a heat exchanger which is the red tank. This transfer the heat to the cooling liquid for the engine. If your AQ125 has been probably serviced, then yes there should be antifreeze in the engine or the closed portion of the cooling system. But you still have to winterize the raw portion of the cooling system.
Inboard: put the fresh water intake hose back, do the engine will draw from the river/lake, if your engine is that type. See 'Burned Out Boat' series of 4 clips being posted this week showing the results of a failed, professional winterization. Boat exploded in the marina mid- winter causing a 4 boat fire.

I really like that shop vac idea. Thanks.
Thanks for an informative and easy to follow video. First year of owning a boat and this video was a huge help ! Many thanks !
DAM BRO, THAT RIDE IS GLEAMING.....GOOD GREIF!
Thank you for the video. I have used it every year when I winterized my boat. No problems in the last three years and 2 of those years were in Minot, North Dakota. Thanks again.
Random, but I lived in Minot for 4 years! Miss it ha
Do you not add antifreeze?
@@heathwilson70 yea he never mentioned that. Confused. Thought u have to add that
Wow , NOT OCD. Great idea. I like to keep my engine area clean to. Thanks for tip also nice clean shape. good job

I'm all in and am looking at 29 degrees even here in Alabama in November. Well done.
👍Thanks! 💞
💡May we all stay as curious and as free as kids. 🙏
got the exact same boat and really appreciate the simple straight forward info
Anytime!!

Hello
Thanks a lot. I winterize my Mercruiser 3.0 (Drago Fiesta 660) near Paris (Marne). Your video was very helpful. You are great...
Thank you!!!

have a safe winter, and thanks for the info.
Thank you. You Too
have owned boats my entire life. to this day I have never understood winterizing but that's just a perk of living in Florida haha. Good video though
Still got the same boat!?! =]] greetings from New Hampshire !
Great video. I used ATF to fog the engine this year. What are your thoughts on using that rather than fogging spray?

What is that fuel stabilizer supposed to taste like? The one I have is a bit tangy, does that mean it has gone bad?
Very helpful thanks

Soon I might have one

I've heard you're suppose to top the fuel off? What's your opinion on that?
Thank you for this video but I would like to see how to winterize with antifreeze please
You don't use any antifreeze?
just got my boat this season. I'm a little gun shy on doing it myself great video. off topic question i have a mercury 4.3 and an alarm sounds intermittently at running speed ..any suggestions? thanks
could be anything from low oil pressure, over heating, low voltage, or low drive oil at the reservoir
low drive oil likely
Thank you

What adapter do you use to connect the garden hose? Do you know where to buy it?
Most people call them earmuffs, you can even search amazon for boat earmuffs and get plenty of results. Any powersports store should have them also.
Many thanks - Great help
So you did not put antifreeze through the system? You just drained the water?
You see that skull and crossbones sign on the front of that container?? research what it means... don't let it get sniff it if you truly love them!!!
Thanks!

You only add stabil when winterizing? You must use fuel with no ethenol.
I add it to every tank, and NEVER use ethanol gas.
Hi My Boat won't Start . How do I drain water from Out Drive and Engine . New to Boats any advice on Winterizing it is appreciated .

Hows the Jeep do pulling the boat?

How go's it ? I am looking at a 1980's bayliner with a 3.0 I would like to put a v6 or a v8 can it be done ?
Yes and no. Pretty sure a V6 will go right in but I think the v8 is too much weight.
Thanks I like you videos . I am currently looking to buy a marina!
Tik tok famous 😁
I see that your boat is damn clean. What wax do you recommend?
A year later, I'm back to winterize my boat

Where or how did you hook the garden house to your motor?
Youll need what are called rubber eara
do you ever need to drain any of the oils when winterizing?
Ist same steps to winterize a 1998 glastron 4.3l . Please answer
I got the same 3.0 tks on my 08 185. Do you have to add antifreeze once you drain the block???
Some say you should put antifreeze to help with corrosion if you have ran the boat in salt water, I choose not to.
shoudnt you change the oil thats in the feet aswell?
Depends on the last time it was changed. I ended up changing my gear oil when I changed my gimbal bearing.
pocket chuck
If feet = lower unit then you want to change it every fall to remove any water that can freeze and crack it.
I know this is an older video but has anyone had any problems just draining the water from the block and manifold

I understand your ocd for a clean hull. How else are you supposed to know what kind of Leak you got if it's filthy? Lol
LOL!!! Thank you
He eats his boat and regurgitates in the spring
where is the fogging oil good for? :-)
coats the inside motor aka carb, cylinders, ect. prevents pitting and rust
so there is no need for antifreeze?
Always put in antifreeze…it is cheap insurance.
How do you put water back into the engine
Inboard: put the fresh water intake hose back, do the engine will draw from the river/lake, if your engine is that type.
See 'Burned Out Boat' series of 4 clips being posted this week showing the results of a failed, professional winterization. Boat exploded in the marina mid- winter causing a 4 boat fire.
What about Anti freeze?
Due to my storing my 175 indoors and running on fresh water lakes, I do not use anti freeze.
can you make more boat videos
Jody, absolutely. I want to get to the lake so bad myself too.
so you dont put antifreeze? just suck out all the water?
In my case and environment, yes. I only use on freshwater lake, stored indoors, and was flushed before sucking the water out.
GET AWAY FROM THE STABIL, I as a Mercury tech , recommend using mercury QUICK-STOR AND POWER TUNE FOR FOGGING
fiero880 stabil and seafoam both have an alcohol base, quickstor and quickclean, both are ppetroleum based. Quickclean uses techron
+trampus johnson Stabil marine brand (blue not red) removes alcohol
Children sniffing petrochemicals is never a good look mate. Just sayin....
oh please.
Raw fuel is the best smell so I don’t blame them
