I have met Gordon more than once in person, and he was actually quite pleasant. He is a fanatic about food, and perfectionist when it comes to its ingredients and production. Thats why he has several Michelin Stars.

the restaurant meatball sandwich looked like it was one of the prepackaged ones you can get from Walmart or somewhere. Very little sauce and it's soaked into the bread and the meatballs look like little rubbery rocks. That restaurant should be embarrassed to serve garbage like that

Meatball subs always performed poorly when Ramsay toured restaurants in the States. They usually admitted that they were made from microwaved filling from a bulk batch that is frozen in smaller portions. They always looked gross like the one you got, and the owners were always adamant that people loved them.
The area I'm in atm has few people who actually discern good food from bad, so I can understand the reviews. Didn't he mention for his own that it was more important how it tastes?

In Swedish meatballs, especially for Christmas, it's common to add just a touch of the oil/brine that anchovies come in. It doesn't make them taste fishy, it just boosts the savoury flavours. However, if you add too much it turns into the most confusing meatballs you'll ever have.

Actually most everything there is a dollar or $2 or $3 ect... not everything but a lot of the store. I’d rather hit up dollar generals any day over any other dollar store considering they have quality products. Compared to Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid ect you get a nice convenience factor and much cheaper prices than those pharmacy store. Example a bottle of ketchup is like $3.99 at Walgreens but the same thing at dollar general is $2. You had to walk the same distance for both and you got to park close at both but you paid half the price!

The shocking thing is for less than 25% more in price they could make canned products 100% better - yet they don't. More often "premium" brands and product lines are barely 5% better for 50% to 100% more price. Most of the cost isn't ingredients or preparation but packaging, warehousing, transport, and multilevel profit taking.
Customers at dollar stores tend not to read the ingredient lists on the products: they just want a low price. If you're shopping at Whole Foods it's different, but their canned foods cost $10 instead of $1 or $2.
I wasn't really hoping for gourmet meals from the Shifty Shekel. But "name brands" might well offer far better fare in their premium lines than they do today. Even the "healthy" product lines can be pretty miserable.

Love the vids! You should try out "InnovAsian" frozen meals. The big boxes with entrees are a good deal and really tasty. They have small entree+rice frozen dinners. A little pricey but still good.
I ONCE ate at a High Rated Local Italian Restaurant and had their Chicken Alfredo... I Love Chicken Alfredo.... But this stuff they served.... Tasted Like I put a mouth full of Dish Soap in my mouth... they Told me that's how "Real Alfredo and Parmigiana" is Suppose to taste.... I sent it back and just got the regular $6 Spaghetti Platter and they still ended up charging me the full $15 for the Chicken Alfredo and $3 No Free Refill Drinks... Their Spaghetti was even Watery, almost like Soup.... Never Went Back. I Believe the High 5 Star Ratting was Family and Friends... Not One Single Bad Review. The Reviews all pretty much said the same thing, but just in a different order and a few with different wordings... Like WatchMojo does with their Videos.... 20 plus videos made from 1 original.
I keep finding, over and over again, how many less ethical and/or skilled cooks/restaurant owners think cheap bread/pasta + cheap, crappy meat + cheap, crappy cheese + tomato sauce = instant winner. It's absolutely stupid, mind-numbingly so... The most important factor in any restaurant's success, regarding the quality of the food, is the QUALITY OF THE FOOD! As in, what you get in the first place, before the cooks do their thing, but a VERY close second after quality is FRESHNESS. (In my opinion.) After that comes flavor/flavor combinations, imagination/variety, balance of dishes, etc., then presentation, etc.
I've found some frozen clover valley meatballs in my DG they came in a 2lb bag with a decent amount of balls I didnt know if they we're gonna be good, but with your approval I will use them in my bolognase sauce tonight.
I live in Montpelier, VT - state capitol and home of the New England Culinary Institute!! I have literally been to every restaurant in the area and the BEST rating I can give ANY is 3 stars! It got SO bad that I leave town to eat out! The last time I took a chance was at the Julio's Cantina (54 State St). I ordered something REALLY simple - a cheeseburger with fries and a side of slaw for ... *_THIRTEEN DOLLARS!?!?_* I waited 35 minutes sitting at a hard wooden straight back booth. Well, the meat was WAY overcooked and had gristle chunks in it.... and cold. The bun was not buttered OR toasted and stale. The lettuce was limp and the tomato (1 thin slice) was old and runny. The coleslaw was from a bag, warm and served in a tablespoon size paper condiment cup. The french fries were the frozen commercial type and were cold and limp. Oh! And two thin slices of warm dill pickle. The disinterested server, a female millennial, never asked us if we wanted a beverage and "forgot" my ketchup and mayo. I have been a cook myself and have managed 5 star restaurants in Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Holly Hill and Titusville in Florida. Finding a really good restaurant with prices within reason today is very very rare! We eat at home ..... a LOT!

I keep finding, over and over again, how many less ethical and/or skilled cooks/restaurant owners think cheap bread/pasta + cheap, crappy meat + cheap, crappy cheese + tomato sauce = instant winner. It's absolutely stupid, mind-numbingly so...
The most important factor in any restaurant's success, regarding the quality of the food, is the QUALITY OF THE FOOD! As in, what you get in the first place, before the cooks do their thing, but a VERY close second after quality is FRESHNESS. (In my opinion.) After that comes flavor/flavor combinations, imagination/variety, balance of dishes, etc., then presentation, etc.
I've found some frozen clover valley meatballs in my DG they came in a 2lb bag with a decent amount of balls I didnt know if they we're gonna be good, but with your approval I will use them in my bolognase sauce tonight.

I live in Montpelier, VT - state capitol and home of the New England Culinary Institute!! I have literally been to every restaurant in the area and the BEST rating I can give ANY is 3 stars! It got SO bad that I leave town to eat out! The last time I took a chance was at the Julio's Cantina (54 State St). I ordered something REALLY simple - a cheeseburger with fries and a side of slaw for ... *_THIRTEEN DOLLARS!?!?_*
I waited 35 minutes sitting at a hard wooden straight back booth. Well, the meat was WAY overcooked and had gristle chunks in it.... and cold. The bun was not buttered OR toasted and stale. The lettuce was limp and the tomato (1 thin slice) was old and runny. The coleslaw was from a bag, warm and served in a tablespoon size paper condiment cup. The french fries were the frozen commercial type and were cold and limp. Oh! And two thin slices of warm dill pickle.
The disinterested server, a female millennial, never asked us if we wanted a beverage and "forgot" my ketchup and mayo.
I have been a cook myself and have managed 5 star restaurants in Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Holly Hill and Titusville in Florida. Finding a really good restaurant with prices within reason today is very very rare! We eat at home ..... a LOT!

These were actually discontinued in my area when I worked at DG. They were penny items for a bit.
Clover Valley is pretty decent for a house brand. The wife has worked at the local Dg for 3 yrs and I’ve enjoyed many of their items.
Slow cooked Wal-Mart frozen meatballs in bbq sauce yesterday, it was good, especially for the convenience.
I used to eat the Clover Valley vegetarian vegetable soup all the time, with a 1/2 cup of instant rice.
When I had young children, I used TVP quite often to turn a 1/2 lbs. of hamburger into a pound of burger. We do what we can when the kids are little.
