A superb review of what is a classic of design by now. Jonathan Crouch is one of the few reviewers whose use of the English language lets the words do the work and not silly exclamations and OTT quirks. Where else would hear the word "rorty" used? It is an arcane and almost archaic word which precisely describes what is meant. He does not waste a second and his excitement is downplayed and gentlemanly. Some of my transatlantic friends are huge admirers of Jonathan's style too.
Thank you so much for your carefully considered and thoughtful feedback. It’s so long ago that I wrote this script but it would never have occurred to me at the time that a decade and a half later someone would derive enjoyment from the effort I had put into it. The fact that you took the trouble to communicate this makes that effort worthwhile. Thank you Jonathan Crouch
im looking at the 2.2 version for a new daily. if i could pick yor brain on issues and maintenance, have you had any engine or gearbox issues, or electrical niggles?
No I owned a 10th gen Civic 2017hb 1.5 turbo I had 245hp in mine But that car was not Typical honda quality Now Honda sucks I sold it and bought a Civic tourer 2014
My 2006 1.8 civic ishift has done 150k miles, only had 1 clutch on 117k miles, apart from 2x E10 petrol related breakdown and 2x fuel injectors replaced I haven’t had an issue with the civic So long as I only use Premium E5 petrol this will probably last me until 200k miles
@@Simone.v same. I've checked out a few older ones and the MOT history doesn't seem to suggest it's an issue. You still see plenty of early ones. It's more of a problem on Golfs and Focuses and I had a Mazda 6 before and it's a big issue on those.
My spine has 64 years old. Every year i go from Spain to Bavarian Alps with my loved Honda Civic 1.8 petrol car.. it is perfect for long rides! 6.500 km in my summer holidays!✨✨✨✨✨😀

Just purchased a 2010 2.2 as a runaround a few weeks ago and it's now my main car. Impressive all round and I doubt I will ever sell it.
Not especially spacious glove box? It’s one of the deepest glove boxes I’ve ever seen. I can fit a small rucksack in mine.
That’s what I thought when he mentioned it. He has never reached to the end 😂
@@erikaepler8597 I lose stuff in it. I wonder what he makes of French ones that are mostly fuse box.
16 years with my type S 2.2 ictdi without problems, perfect car and motor.

I love my 07 2.2 cdti ex. Fun to drive and such a practice interior.
Excellent review, Honda always with great cars. Accurate comments, congratulations!

On cars fitted with dual zone climate it has the controls on passenger door too
Ive had mine 9 years ive slept in it made love in it
Camping in it
Its a real gem
I hardly see any of theese that dont have clouded up plastic headlights!
Im 6.4. Will I fit in driving this car?
I'm 6'3, I bought one recently and I am very comfortable, best to test drive though.
Unfortunately rust is getting hold of these now. My 2011 might see a few more years before holes in the floor appear. 😢
Where do you live? i mean close to the sea or something like that? mine is 2010 and not a single bit of rust

@@Simone.v have a look on the underside. They rot in the rear suspension beam areas.
I have same si 2.2 non dpf brilliant lovely engine. Get a 2010 and has upgraded clutch for torque . Avoid new shape if short journeys as dpf
I would like to purchase a well looked after version of this car but, is it a cam belt or timing chain?
The 2.2 is chain.
I own a fn2 3 door. Its a great car. 👌
Is he smoking something? Not especially spacious glovebox? It's bloody huge!
What about experencies on dirt roads? Isnt this car too low for family trips?:)
It is ok for family trips, we travel in Italy, Slovenia, Bosnia and Croazia.
It is low, that benefits handling on corners a lot but you pay with a lack of comfort on bad surfaces compared to a corrolla for example.
The ishift is rubbish, AVOID.
Youll need a new spine.
Fully agree; i bought one of these and sold it within a year. I couldn't stand the horrible ride. The most uncomfortable car i've ever owned.
Haha yep. Dodge potholes like your life depends on it. It does drive well though

shit car with i-shift gear box. It costed me 2300 dollars to fix it.
If you cant handle a gear correctly you will break them on this car. So buy something easier and more your level next time.
Should've bought the manual
what an ugly looking car.
