Buy it HERE (in stock as of 26Jan2024): rebelempiredesigns.etsy.com/listing/1604606998 All - the Dominox Band amp is exactly the same device as Moukey VA-1. Since both ended up selling out globally - I went to the manufacturer that makes them both & bought some in bulk - as of today I have almost 20 remaining for sale on Etsy.
Went to a Renaissance festival during Time Traveler's weekend and went as Boba Fett, realized two things, a lot of kids and adults loved my costume and I really needed a voice box and this is helping bunches👍👍👍👍
Glad to hear! The Star Wars costumes are always a hit - and especially if you actually sound like the character. It not only makes it easier to communicate but a lot more fun. Enjoy.
I did basically the same thing for my Din Djarin (The Mandalorian) cosplay. I bought a similar speaker/mic combo off Amazon that came with a bluetooth headset. I opened the speaker case up, took out the electronics, and replaced the speaker with an exciter. The electronics and 18650 battery go in a pouch on my belt and the exciter is mounted behind the chest plate. I also wired in a 99uF bass blocker (capacitor) in order to block the lower frequencies and give it more of that signature Mando 'comm' sound.
sounds good. Did you use the same exciter or a different one? if a different one - how did work out /would you recommend it? How was the footprint on your amp you bought?
@@creative-stuff yeah, same exciter. I did try a couple of the other Dayton ones but this model was the best between size and sound. I may try adding a second one though to try and boost the volume.
Hey Quico question. I’m doing the same cosplay, where did you put the speaker. I’m planning on putting a fan kit (it says it’s not the loud) in it so do you think I have to worry about the noise for the amp?
Could I ask how you went about wiring the male connector to the exciter speaker? did you do any soldering of sorts? i notice theres what seems like hot glue around it as well
So I soldered it to the exciter and reinforced it with hot glue to keep the wires from breaking off while testing, installing and just from longer term wear. If you don't know how to solder, you could choose to instead twist your wire ends then feed them through the holes where they would normally be soldered and just keep wrapping them through the holes a few times and then twist the remaining wire to itself and put hot glue on it
If you opt for another speaker or exciter it’s likely you’ll have to solder but you can get away without it if you need to. You can snip the wires off the Moukey speaker, then strip the ends about a half an inch then insert it through the holes on the positive and negative terminals of the exciter and twist it together, and it’ll hold via the twist. The challenge here is that you’ll be limited on wire length, but if you have extra wire around you could just twist it onto the speaker wire to extend it.
@@creative-stuff Thank you. I have an electrical wiring kit I bought to install rock lights on my vehicle. So I should be able to do this, once I get my old EET kit from storage.
Taking it apart is what I do. Depending on your model you may get a smaller board - not likely as small a the Moukey but one can hope it’s close. If you’ve not seen my Mando build - check it out here ruclips.net/video/56xvhMs2H0Q/видео.htmlsi=uHZO2AamG7cUt3to Although the great thing about the Fett helmet is that it’s got tons of room in there compared to Mando - so even a larger circuit board may still fit fine in the Fett helmet. You may need to swap for either a smaller speaker or an exciter
Could I just plug the i9 voice changer to the speaker without taking it apart right out of the box? I can hide the speaker and the voice changer on my belt without compromising sound. Do you think it could work?
You don’t need to take apart the i9 if it fits as is. But it needs to go to amplified speaker or amplifier. It cannot go straight to a speaker (gotta have that amp in there). So as long as your speaker is amplified- locating it in your belt should be fine.
I’ve never done this before and have a halo helmet I want to do this to, do you have a video of you walking through how you augmented and connected your pieces together in order to get this easy set up? :O
I wish I looked into this sooner or I totally would've bought one! I saw in another comment that you've gutted a winbridge before. Do you think you'll ever do a video on that or more alternatives for voice amp systems?
I do have that in my backlog. I’ve actually made the video I think. But I’ve also made a bunch of videos that all need to be edited and released so it’s in the pipeline.
Hot glue - I hot glue any soldered wire connections that are at risk of breaking off if manipulated too much during testing or looking for best placement in a mask. (Wires Soldered to speakers/circuit boards) A lesson learned from previous amp system builds.
WinBridge has one that's tolerable, as it's the next best circuitboard size compared to the Moukey. The downer is it's board is more 2 to 3x the size of Moukey... but it's better than nothing (or a large board) --- It's a possible interim solution until Moukeys are available again --> amzn.to/3WtnLVf
I’ve got your new order - but I’ll put the link here if anyone else is looking for link to buy Moukeys - rebelempiredesigns.etsy.com/listing/1604606998
Hey one more question. What did you connect to the exciter speaker? Where did that wire with the plug come from and what did you use to seal it on there? Is that glue? Did you have to solder anything?
So in place of the original speaker I got wire with a connector to fit the speaker connection location - easiest is to just unsolder from the original speaker and solder to your exciter. I always put hot glue on my solder points to minimize bending at the point of solder to mitigate break off.
Unfortunately the Moukey is now extinct- but you can instead use a Norwii Mini (S368) or Shidu S617 your amp. You can use the M10 with those. Although if you have not yet bought your voice changer first take a look at the MC-093. It only does reverb and pitch, however, it allows you to use both at the same time, while the M10 and most other budget voice changers only allow one function to operate at a time.

I think the pins are like 2mm apart but I don't know exactly.
