Hello, Christian. I'm Nastia and I am from Russia.
I've come across your channel and this is fantastic.
It's fascinating how all that you're saying correlates with what I believe in as an English teacher.
    I just feel such comradery.
Your approach to teaching and acquiring language is something that I've intuitively developed in myself.
My journey of learning English started with self teaching.
I never had a teacher. I listened to radio programs and podcasts, read language forums, dictionary articles.

After watching this video, I realized that the most important thing in learning English is a great love for the language and a strong, burning desire to learn it. If you don't have that, study something you are more interested in. Music, painting, singing, swimming, etc. Only what inspires you will bring you success.

Christian you remind me of a guy who taught me how to race a car. He took me for a ride in the neighborhood. Then, the next day He told me: "now you are the driver " take me to the baseball park, to make the story short, we did visit a lot of different places in my hometown and you know what? Eventually, I passed the test with flying colors.
So, I truly respect your plans for the future and I will never forget your point: You don't need a book, you don't need a school to learn English. You just make your learning process very personal, like time I did spend learning how to drive a car right? Anyway so, again, you just incorporate English in your daily life, be realistic and soon you are going to learn English, you are going to be able to take part in a very colorful and interesting conversations. Thank you Christian for being such a great teacher.

My main language is spanish, I haven't read an english textbook for about 15 years and my english improved significantly in the last decade.
Of course, I did learn some things from text books, the basics, but not much. I was far from being fluent.
Since then, I exposed myself to english on every situation I could spare, even when I had the options for spanish, and I did it just as a self-teaching tool. I really didn't need to learn more spanish :P
I read tons of software documentation (I'm a dev) in english, English movies/series + English subtitles (yes, to have a reference, but no spanish subtitles, this helped me a lot!), English OS in my PC, English on every online service (I opt out from spanish).
After all that practice, I'm proud to say I can read/write anything, understand pretty much anything that anyone can say to me, and I have a pretty good pronunciation too (although I'm still working on that).
So, I totally agree with this guy, you just need someone to teach you the basics, then it's up to the apprentice to read/write/listen/etc to learn as much vocabulary as possible. All you need is a dictionary, I personally used wordreference.com (they have pronounciations, synonyms, definitions, ES to EN, EN to ES, super awesome site!) and urbandictionary.com for slang

In my opinion, a language teacher nowadays must do 3 things:
    1. Make a student to continue to learn
    2. Teach methodical things, like: you need repeat a word for four months before it will become realy yours, etc
    3. Correct mistakes
All exсept this a student can do by yourself in the internet for free )
Thank you for the video, it was realy motivating!

I learn english for many years and my favorite activiy is to listening a story, like the children, I remember more than the series or films or radio because it's more simply. And I like too BBC News, the events of day. I look your videos because you speak clarely, slowly, I can improve my english undestanding. Thank you.

I have a similar method too, I mark each new word using an app, then I use Anki to remember all the new words. I'm able to learn around 20 words per day.

I've just realized that I use this method all the time. It's partly because I'm lazy to learn English in the traditional way, and partly because I've been pushed to learn things I really love. From a non-native English speaker perspective, I also need professional teachers like you, Christian, because, in real life, native English speakers don't speak grammatically correct all the time as you showed us in one video. So, I think to find a balance point between traditional studying and learning from things in real life is essential. Or at least, non-native English speakers should study basic things first, so that they will have a good understanding of nouns, verbs, tenses,... then they will have the knowledge to analyze things they learn from by themselves

When i started learning English, RUclips wasn't around, i had no access to internet at the time either. I learned through television then the radio. I had English classes in school but those classes never made me understand how to link words together ( connected speech ) or how to be fluent. I'm self taught by listening, practicing, including English in my every day life.

I feel incredibly happy sharing the same viewpoints with you.The point you mentioned in the video is not something taught at school.I mean it is an outcome of our experiences. It is funny that thousands of kilometers away, people get experienced through years and teach intuitively using their experiences.
