I’m always impressed by the camera work in your videos, but this one seriously blew me away. There were so many varied, beautiful, cinematic shots. Plus you had to do the filming and the driving! From the many shots of you stepping out of Doc near the trail head, to the overhead shot as you crossed the bridge at 8:54. Everything was framed to perfection. Bravo Brad!

Onion Creek is one of my always trails in Moab too, so beautiful and the variety of the red rock formations is amazing and who does not love 15-20 water crossings (all shallow). Thank you for taking us with you on that epic trail. You don't always have to be getting after it on a hard crawler trail to make Moab the amazing place it is.

Holy crap, I was out there that same weekend and did Onion Creek up to the top Via Hideout Canyon! In 2020, I was out just exploring easy trails in my trusty 2010 V6 RAV4 AWD, and found my way past the Bull Canyon overlook and unknowingly went DOWN from the top thru Hideout Canyon and thru Onion Creek to 128. It was about the absolute limit of what the RAV could do just going down, with it's limited clearance and no lockers (not a factor going down), and no skidplates. The real sketchy part coming down in the RAV was that last steep uphill leaving Hideout Valley and getting out into the flat area. Well, on March 16th I FINALLY got my first real 4WD truck, a 2024 Colorado ZR2, after years of having to "softroad it" in the RAV (although it's more capable than people think if you go slow enough). So, with only about 750mi on the odo, I left for 3 days of offroading solo in Moab on Friday April 12th. I got in early enough to take a quick jaunt about 1/2 way up Onion Creek, before it started to get dark enough for me to want to turn around. So, the next day (Saturday), I did the Mokie Dugway (been down that several times on my sportbike over the years on the way thru AZ) and Valley of The Gods for the first time. Not what I'd call challenging, but lots of fun in the ZR2, especially at speed (what it's made for). On Sunday I did Shafer Trail from the top down. Kinda bumpy at the top, and not really "technical", but sketchy in a new truck because of the narrowness and dropoffs and limited areas to pull over for uphill traffic. I continued on to Potash Lakes, which I enjoyed WAY more, and it seemed easy too but a little more challenging, but unlike Shafer I could actually enjoy the scenery while driving. I started to go up one canyon marked Jug Handle Arch but I was running out of daylight and had no idea how difficult it would be so I went up a little bit, took some pics, and turned around. The last day (Monday) I went UP Onion Creek on my way to the top via Hideout Canyon. Well, I'm glad to hear you call it a "moderate" trail because SOME people have called it "easy". Maybe easy for them with lots of experience, in modified rigs, coming DOWN. But I tell you, for me, in a brand new vehicle (maybe 1,200mi at the time) that I wasn't sure of where the wheels were and it's turning radius and capabilities, it was pretty damn challenging. There had been a LOT of erosion in that 4 years, washing away the dirt that was covering the rocks on the trail, exposing them now and making it a LOT rougher. Initially dropping into Hideout Canyon from Onion Creek was a total butt-clencher since I could see nothing but hood even though I knew from last time the road had to turn to the left going this direction (thank God for the front camera), and the rock ledges as I was trying to trust the camera while driving essentially blind was clenchy as hell. If I'd known what was in store later, I would have turned around. But, I was lulled into a false sense that this was the toughest, because coming DOWN last time, it was. So, like an idiot, I kept going. The trail looked nothing like I remembered, which in part had to do with trying to pilot a vehicle new to me and much larger. And then I got to that on long, (8"+) stepped/bumpy shelf uphill. I would have turned around but on that trail, there IS no spot to turn around, especially in something that big. So, I locked (just) the rear diff (though stupidly left it in 4WD Auto instead of 4Hi) and just went for it as slow as I thought I could without backsliding and giving it a little throttle when it seemed to slow down going over a particular step. I have to say, the ZR2 got me up that climb no sweat, bouncing all the way, but climbing up it like a tank. I can't claim any talent, just that I didn't do anything stupid, and after what seemed forever, I made it to the tight turn at the top. I was literally shaking a little with the adrenaline, especially realizing I was the ONLY other person in the area after the last guys in Jeeps I'd seen down in Onion Creek proper. There were a couple other tight turns with steps like that mid corner, but since I'd finally remembered to put in 4Hi, it climbed even better. I finally got to the top "Hideout Overlook" to stop at the edge I remembered from my RAV trip in 2020. The view was every it as amazing as I remembered, and I took a (well earned) shot and stopped to reflect on how much harder it is CLIMBING a trail vs coming down. There's no way the RAV would have made it this direction, especially after the erosion of 4 years. There were times it was TOTALLY butt-clenchy for me (noob all alone in a new vehicle), but it WAS exhilarating when I made it to the top, like it was an accomplishment. The day started out at the bottom on 128 cloudy and a little drizzly, but cleared up as I got to the top to be a beautiful, clear, sunny day. The bonus that was in store was that as I headed towards the Bull Canyon Overlook....it started snowing heavily, blowing almost completely sideways! So, I got some AWESOME pics of Bull Canyon with blowing snow, even got to drive in it a little as I tried to go up the hill towards the antennas on the top there. I turned around right away, the snow drifts were WAY to deep but at least I got into some snow. Then the sun cleared up again and heading down 128...I also ran into the Bronco Off-Rodeo event. Met some cool people, saw some cool Bronco's, and even got some air from them to top off my tires! Had an awesome time, learned a LOT about the ZR2's amazing capabilities (even bone stock), and I look forward to learning more and exploring more, hopefully next time with others to keep me from going where, at my skill level, I shouldn't go. Like I said, glad to hear an experience off-roader like YOU say it was a moderate trail, makes me more proud I did it without any more drama than the trail itself provided, or any trail damage (other than trail damage to my shorts! LOL). Too bad I didn't actually see you out there, I watch and enjoy your channel a lot, and I'd have been happy to stop and chat with you if I'd have seen you. Maybe next time. Keep up the great work/vids/channel!

Onion Creek full loop is a wonderful adventure. I've only ridden it on 2 wheels. I'm supposedly in my golden years now, so I bought a Jeep, probably because I've been watching too many of your great videos. I'll keep with 2 wheels for now, but I feel like I could drive that one, as long as the mud has dried up, up top. I like how you captured it with your drone. I've only seen it through my helmet.

I decided to attend at the last minute as I had never gone before. The motels and restaurants are swamped quality dropped and $317 /2nts but the trails made up for it - ten fold. I left before the rain but Def want to return with Far better planning and logistics. There is so much fun and beauty there!
Have fun on the Raphael Swell!
Now that you've conquered that, perhaps consider the Red Rock of our Grand Escalante in our AZ/ Utah - I'm local and you've got a lot of beauty and multi-day trips yet most folk are simply driving by to go elsewhere. Think Alstrom Point but located in the Grand Escalante and undiscovered by most Offroaders

I agree with trail therapy. Living in Idaho there’s a bunch of. I have a 98 wrangler for my off roading . Here’s the biggest question I have. I’m looking to up grade my Dakota To a gladiator. I’m considering a 22-23 either gas or diesel. Sense you been doing a gladiator any suggestions for issues a why . It will not be my primary off road vehicle but still occasionally use . I have read bad reviews and great reviews. Being your an owner I will respect your opinion. Thanks . Oh and my friends and I will be back to Moab again soon to enjoy.

Wondering how the JT would fair with nittos recon grappler in a 37x11.5r17 there isn't that much of a weight penalty. While i hated my ridge grapplers on my jt, the more modern tread design on the recon grapplers would probably be worth it.

I've still got to be able to fit in my garage and right now things are really tight. Pretty happy with these tire so far, but I like that there is a 37x11.5 option.
