I’m a drummer and what Anderson is doing here may sound simple, but it takes a long time to build chops like that. He’s really good, and to sing at the same time, god damn. Dude is insanely talented.
yup, his hi hat techniques and ghost notes are top notch, he does it like it's nothing and sings lol... i could never do this. check out a drummer named Mr Reed. he sings too, and has crazy chops ruclips.net/video/SJS6O03uoXw/видео.html
You are 100% right on about his drumming. He is so crisp with his high hat work, snare rolls, kick drum control, his use of dynamics with his cymbal work. His timing is just as good as a metronome. Absolutely none of this affects his vocals, to be as clean and rhythmically tight as he is while singing at the same time is incredible. He has great chops too, dude can play.
He’s got a towel on his snare. Blasphemous!
Bomk Fort thats so it doesn’t cover his voice too much
Its literally David Garibaldi with four on the floor. Its incredible.
Andy Paak has that rare sense of timing that let’s him comfortably play drums and sing. So young, so talented!
The fact he can hit those ghost notes and accents and sing at the same time is just blowing my mind
Can't forget about that bass! So similar to .paak's drumming...so much going on but the underlying groove is so solid it just works. Incredible and one of my favorite bassists of all time.
Such a smooth drummer, its so nice.
love the variations on paradiddles with the hi hat and snare; it's the knowledge of rudiments that separate real drummers from others.
Lia Arakal BIG FACTS. I immediately recognized this as I’ve used it many times
Those little ghost notes here and there were on point too, I love me some technical shit but sometimes just feeing it is enough 🤘🏼
Can you or someone explain what you mean exactly?
Dam.. i can i have miss this for that long. Venice, Malibu, Ventura, you are non human Anderson !
untouchable.
Solid drum technique.
One of the best performances of that song and you couldn't get the output from the board? 😂
was kinda cool hearing just their monitor mixes tho
shit pissed me off.
Yeah WTF
He's unreal man - his awareness of dynamic with his drum part in this live version compared against the actual produced track is sooooo dope.
The basic part in the track is a really simple part (sounds like real playing with drum replacement, but could be mostly programming apart from obvious fills) with shakers and cowbell etc to fill out the rhythm parts. Here however it's the five of them, inc their man on tracks and pads (who is also a drummer) so you've got so much less to actaully play with when performing live. All this to say that he's filling out so much of the sonic space with his live drum parts (while rapping), which to me, feels dynamically identical. That plus Kelsey's different bass parts and I think some extra guitar from your man on the PRS and you've got a super live version that doesn't feel like it's missing anything so it still makes you jump just like the produced track.
This is opposed to The Chili Peppers, for example, who have been known to struggle sometimes with only the 4 of them on stage playing songs they've layered like crazy in the studio. It's also kind of like the live stadium pop music approach where you've got mad production on the songs themselves but only have 5 band members so you hire crazy rock, gospel and jazz players for guitar, bass, drums and keys so the sonic space is filled out with all their heavy chops (as well as live samples and triggers etc).
Down the line Paak has tracks playing live for the most part on this tune and jumps on the kit at the end to really bring the whole thing home, which I also think is dope, but this is such an awesome example of his and all the Free Nationals skills, talents, musicianship, everything man. Anderson Paak is my fucking idol!
anderson paak ist so fucking talented love dat guy
You can open your palms waiting to catch a break, the cards will fall where they may.
And what about me?
I've been playing drums for 30 years and I really do like Paak's style.
I don't know why you guys are complaining. I think this vidéo's great. The sound puts the drums up front which makes it really interesting for drummers...
You'd better enjoy.
Thank you Rafiki Creative for that GREAT video.
And thank You anderson Paak for the great playing and energy !
Maybe interesting for drummers. but you literally cant hear the greatness in Paaks voice. Hell i can barely even hear his voice. Thats the only complaint. And frankly extremely valid
I just think it’s funny to have thousands of dollars in mics setup, just to use the camera mic. I think they had audio issues though so it is what it is. At least makes for an interesting vid since it’s like they solo each instrument.
Anderson is DOPE!
he went in on the drums at the end
Terrific ! This is what i call true live.
Acid Jazz's power!!!!
FANTASTIC
Reminds me of Jamiroquai... that would be a good concert
Keith Greene this is how I know you're a music lover... It's the classic Jamiroquai sound from the 90s and early 2000s.
Yes!!!
Keith Greene yep. Up tempo, live Funk with a dash of electro and synths
Same thing i was thinking!
OMG yess isnt?? Finally someone said this. Well music like this is rare thesedays , with a bunch of men blabbering and spewing nonsense , compared to that , this is art
Everything he touched turn to gold
So amazing!!!!!!!
Magnificent🔥
Excellent sound
Well that's just pretty darn great
Que isso? Cara vc bati muito. Show de bola
Superb
Talented really want to learn playing these instruments
Jose's shirt rules! Hahaha greetings form Zapopan
Never seen a guy take off his jacket that fast!
Feels like im there....
Awesome video. Was the intent to use the raw sound? Would have been cool if it was mixed with a bit of the actual mix...
its just a rehearsal..
Odell Brown There’s ALWAYS one 😂😂😂
Raw... this song translates will live and vice versa. Young hip hop/RnB fans need to see this. Almost a lost art (in that genre )
🔥💯✊🏾
This man is fine as hell on those drums. Make it stop
I didn’t even know he was a drummer dog this shit is awesome
his style is very jamiroquai like.
Love that green shirt
Paak purdie shuffles in his sleep
The sticking for the groove is: RLRR LRRL
Watch out for the crashes on count 2 ... Most of the accents on the hihat are easy to play, just step quarters and they will come naturally✌🏼
Paak snapped at the end, sheesh!
Holy Fucking smooth Batman
You a dawg bro! Pro-mark Sticks good choice!
This is pratically a Samba Groove Fusion
Bro, why are they playing through the camera mic its not serving the song justice.
Come perform at my school’s Pep rally
I like this raw mix. It sounds gnarly
TheMGSjuan sounds like ass to me
This doesn't sound like raw mix, sounds like a stereo mic on the camera, would love to hear what the mics in the room picked up
sounds like complete crap more like
Finally a drummer from the millennial generation that likes James Brown and loves to groove. I've had enough of the church monsters. Great players but enough already...
Fuck he's a super tight drummer!!
I put "Malibu" right up there with "Songs in the key of life" by Stevie Wonder
too soon!!!
I think he means as far as quality and novelty not necessarily prestige. I love this album
I got into both of those albums around the same time, they have a similar aesthetic/ vibe but in terms of substance I think songs in the key of life is a deeper and more meaningful album. Both are really amazing projects tho
i kind of agree. key of life is too epic but i think after 10 years this will prove to stand the test of being a classic record
All in a days work.
Tell me the font name in the beginning PLZ!!!!!
House Arrest is in Avant Guard.
onboard mic?
Are those 15" k hats?
No they are Zildjian K Customs.
voice too low.. but amazing as always still
The Google Pixel commercial led me to AP.
Who guy on preview?
Una grabación para una revista y el paisa con la playera de México jajajaja ahuevooo
Paradiddle that’s it
If he stop rapping an 100% sing we are looking at new age Marvin Gaye all due respect
He's already that AND he can rap, unlike Marvin Gaye (nothing against the legendary MG)
They were social distancing before it was cool
Towel on his snare...pitiful.
cheap onboard sound, too bad, the camera work itself and the performance are good...
what a waste
