Am I the only one hearing that pinging on those full throttle pulls??? It’s easy to hear when the camera was in the back you might not be able to hear it in the front seat. I’d do some logging and check your knock sensor trace (if you have one). Obviously knocking under boost is not good. Congrats on the ride it looks awesome!

Nice job on the engine. It will be interesting to see what your temps are once you get all the sensors in place. Oil temps, head temps, intake air temps, especially to see what the intercooler effects are.

Riding wth you in that reminds me of when my buddy Todd took me out in the first turbo car I ever rode in. 1st, then 2nd then 3rd with 3.88s watched the speedo go straight to 90 in 3rd in a couple seconds.
The best looking car at the show . Almost perfection . But I am concerned about the the bottom of your Beatle . I had an oil temperature sender , contact the dirt . I was lucky it didn't knock the oil sump off . 😍

JW What a motor !!!! some where I think you have your old engine temps . Now you can compare them . In tuning the FI if its to lean it can drive up the temps so now with your control box you can deal with them . I still like the fan !!!!!!
I had a 200-ish HP '71 Corolla many years ago. People may not be impressed with that but A) The car only weighed about 1700 pounds and B) That was naturally aspirated! Biggest downside was I had the original rear wheel gearing and 4 speed tranny, so running 55mph on the highway was an adventure in high revs... I planned on upgrading to the available 5 speed but I sold the car because my mom was afraid I was going to kill myself in it.
Sorry didnt see other people reported the same thing. Your timing is too far advanced. I would do a compression test while your at it to make sure you didn’t shatter any pistons rings. Bug looks killer! Dont drive it till the timing is fixed

JT, Great Job!! Noticed when you got on it, your exhaust is close to pavement. My opinion but you need larger tires. Plus need to fill up the fender in rear.
The reason the case cracked with that fitting tightened all the way down, is that NPT threads are tapered, so as you thread it further in it gets wider and wider, so you went too far, and probably didn't crack until everything expanded when the engine was running.
People talk smack on these engines because stock they’re underpowered but some bolt ons and a maybe a turbo will gap whatever Mopar boat they’re driving with twice the hp
if you are having a problems with it bottoming out change the stock stopper from bug to bus stopper they are taller and will stop it from bottoming out and you will leave much harder .

I know this comment comes late, but have you noticed you have enough space for the muffler inside the rear fender behind the tyre? That's where I was hiding my mufflers when I was building bugs 30 years ago... 🙂
Holy moly you are the man. What a build sounds and goes amazing. I wouldn't hammer it too much though 'til it's tuned up, as tempting as it is. I Don't want to be a kill joy, I couldn't tell with the video sound, but was the higher rev chatter the blow off or detonation? I have a supercharged beetle draw thru and when jetting the mains down smaller I got the same sound and it was detonation. I was lucky and noticed in time. Cheers C.

dont you need a different tune for the e85 or do your fuel trim numbers range that far. will need a lot more fuel. I am considering converting to e85 on mine. better cooling and cheaper. less saudi oil too. but you do use much more of it.
What do you have in the engine as size and money including EFI and all that? Trans doesn't sound build as far as racing gears so maybe some info on that .
Lol... I have no idea to be honest. Well over 20k in engine and transmission. Transmission is built as well, solid main shaft and Weddle gears. Nothing cheap.
that intercooler looks nice but how does it get air flow through it? unless there's a big hole in the firewall with some air ducting, it seems like it would be useless.

@@JWClassicVW Sure sounds like detonation to me.......Post a timing map and check what your IAT's are under boost along with how much boost you are running.
Just listened again and I have to say it's detonation not the waste gate. Be very careful if you continue driving like that. Watch for excessive blowby....that will be your first sign.

Yeah I know... didn't have far to go... should of just ran my tap in there. Lessons learned.

The largest popular aftermarket engine being built is a 2332cc turbo engine. There are a few different companies that build turnkey engines.

But you need to be able to look at an AFR gauge, I think it’s pinging badly.(detonation).
I can see everything through my laptop... a few sensors aren't working but I'll get it sorted before I head to the tuner.

Yup... engine must be tuned for E85 and mine has been. Tuned for both 93 Petrol and E85 mixture using a flex fuel sensor with my Haltech.

I found the issue, my MAP hose had was off at the manifold... I can't believe she was running as good as she was... but now OMG what a difference.
