Being a German, though born '75, I feel deeply touched by this. After we caused the worst nightmarish catastrophe imaginable in the 20th century, at least we built a car that still puts a smile into peoples faces and ended up being symbol of peacefulness and freedom. It meant a lot to us - or at least to my father. He felt quite responsible and guilty himself even though he'd been to young back than, but he grew up in the WW2 and saw the world burning and the ashes and ruins that it left behind. Every time we watched the Disney Herby movies (they run countless times on tv) he wanted me close to him - it took me years to understand what had been going on in him. Hey always said: "Look, they love our car! Can you believe this? They really love it." - Sorry, I couldn't resist to tell this. Really great documentary! Have a nice one! :)

Being a Pole (born late 1970s) I did inherit some hatred towards Germans -- yet, by the time I was a teen, it was mostly just jokes and stereotypes.
One thing we joke here often and dearly is: Germans Cars! Some realy are legendary! The buggy - we call it "humpbackee" def. is a legend. Grusse!

Still wish I had my beetle though.

I bought a new VW Beetle in 1976. Drove it for 20 years, maintenance was relatively easy and I did most of it myself.
Still miss my VeeDub, great car. Used it to travel to work, and many memorable holiday trips in South Africa.

    Well done, thank you.

I Mom and Dad owned a VW Beetle when they were newlyweds back in 1967!!!! They had it for 4 years and and traded it for a VW station wagon because I came around!!!! LOL!!!😂😂😂 My Dad said that the VW Beetle was very reliable, dependable, great on gas mileage and it never broke down!!!! For the length of time they owned it !!!! They said they needed a family car when I was born!!!! I wish they still owned that car!!!! Its a classic!!!!😊😊😊

They aren't lying about the reliability. If you stay on top of the basics, it will run and run and run and run. Start in any weather, idle anywhere. As long as you keep it full of good fuel (non ethanol), stay on top of the oil, and maybe add a pusher fan from a Porsche to help force air into the engine compartment, if the vehicle sees a lot of traffic.
That's pretty much it. I had a cousin car, a Karmann Ghia for quite sometime. Live in South Florida, so I added an AC kit. That required more maintenance to keep clean and such, due to the location of the condensers (under vehicle). But, outside of that, car just never let me down.

We have a sweet 68” bug that took a lot of TLC to get him road worthy again. He, Fillmore, is a driver not a trailer queen and we love him as he is. This my 3rd one, bought my first one at 18. 2 were early 70’s models. Drove those cars everywhere, every kind of weather. My Buddy rolled the first one, rebuilt it, later sold it because of trans problems. Sold the 2nd one in the late 90’ to buy a pickup. Got the 68 about 4 years ago on a trade for a 6 cylinder 2001 Mustang. I never give this one up.

I assume you mean the post 68’ carbs? Cause carb on my 59’ is the simplest fuel system I’ve ever worked on, excluding some (but not all) small engine carbs. Its got like 3 adjustments and takes 10 minutes to dial in, and about an hour to rebuild if you know what you’re doing

    • @davidtuley5898

What a great movie, very enjoyable, its just a pity that the EU are trying to bring in laws that if your old car engine or transmission is blown, or your car is needing welding the compleat car will have to be crushed, because of emissions and climate change, that's why here in Ireland 🇮🇪 we are trying to leave the EU the Economic Union, but here in Ireland we know extra population causes extra pollution, so we have 5 new Irish Nationalist Patriotic political partys who want border control to stop mass migration and extra Irish global warming,
    Ireland for the Irish 🇮🇪
