Thank you for covering this! I have read some truly dreadful pastiches of Sherlock Holmes over the years, so it's great to find these recommendations. Even if I don't participate in the challenge (I just re-read all the Holmes books and stories in autumn), I now have a huge list of books and stories to follow up!
Great video! I have seen those Titan books but was unaware of the scope of the series. Will have to pay more attention in the future when I run across them. I happen to own an older copy of the peerless peer. Guess I will finally get around to reading in this February. Additionally, The Valley of Fear is the only remaining canon story that I have not read. I’ll check it off the list in February as well. Still have to make room for my usual Lenten/theological reading as well. February is filling up!
Nice collection! There are three or so Sherlock stories in the Big Book of Christmas Mysteries. Considering the size of your Sherlock collection there is probably crossover in the pastiche stories.
Annually for about 25 years or so I read exclusively Sherlock Holmes books, Canon and pastiches, from Thanksgiving thru January. I have very one of the books you showcase, read them all and have a large collection of pastiches yet to be read. We have been in a renaissance of new Holmes writings for a good many years now and I cannot seem to get enough, good or bad.
I feel the same, Brad. It's never enough Holmes! There are so many new stories every day, so the collection will never be complete regarding pastiches. But I am thankful that I have the complete Canon in more than one collection.
I have three of the MX volumes now (or I will when I get the last delivered tomorrow). I will have to complete my Titan collection of Holmes stories one of these days.
I have a friend who only recently got into Sherlock Holmes in the last couple years and she's now so obsessed she'll buy anything with his name on it, including a bunch of these Titan pastiches. 🤣I've actually never read any OG Sherlock stories myself, but I plan to rectify that soon. Great video! Those Titan editions are indeed really handsome paperbacks. 😊
Until this reading challenge came up, I never realised that there was so many pastiches of Sherlock Holmes out there. I've come across a writer on Kindle that might fit the bill, who has written 17 adventures on Holmes varying in size from short stories to novellas - after watching this video, I may yet broaden my reading before February.
There are so many stories out there. I'd say just delve into them and see if you like them. We might have a surprise or two on the livestreams in February. 😉
Well, while watching I bought 4 of the Titan titles you spoke of. I'll have to not look at your videos for a while. Just kidding. Just found you and subbed your channel. Thanks for offering some good reads
Thanks very much, Boomer! When I hear that I got someone into buying a book they haven't tried before, it makes me very happy. Thanks for the follow and the comment!
I am definitely going to jump in on Holmes is Where the Heart Is. I've only read one Sherlock Holmes book, so I am going to start with A Study in Scarlet. Maybe I can try to hunt down some pastiche too. Though with the Read What You Own Challenge, it might be difficult.
Hi PhantomGenerator, I'm glad you'll be joining us in the challenge! I know it might be a problem finding a non-Doyle Holmes story for the challenge, but if you go over to Greg's channel @@anotherbibliophilereads and watch his announcement video, he talks about some online downloads that might work for you. If you're able to get out to a thrift store with a book section, you might get lucky and find a Holmes pastiche. But honestly, even if you just read some of the Canon stories for February, that would be awesome, too! Thanks for participating!
@@MysteryandMayhem-gr7nn I actually found some pastiche of Kindle Unlimited (exempted for the RWYO Challenge, at least according to me) that are short story collections called "Sherlock Holmes: Adventures in the Realms of H.G. Wells" and that, as a big fan of H.G. Wells, sounds right up my alley.
I am trying to figure out what books I have tha will fit in this. I have some on TBR, but I am not sure if they fit. Is the House of Silk ok? By Anthony Horowitz. I also have Goodnight Mr Holmes, about Irene Adler? I am looking at books I have, got to give my bookshelves a break.
Hi Sherri, I would say that these two books fit the prompts nicely. I haven't read them, but will probably buy them eventually to add to the shelves. I've had my eye out for House of Silk for a while now. The beauty of the pastiche prompt is that it's all-encompassing. Irene Adler was an original character to the canon, so her novel could arguably be considered for both pastiche and legacy. I think they're great choices!
@@MysteryandMayhem-gr7nn I have always admired Anthony Horowitz as a screenwriter, the first book of his I read was magpie murders, I loved it and it's sequel. So i looked out for his other books and I found this one. I have had the Irene Adler series, for years, i love all the books that author writes. Thanks, so I have my books for it, It's funny its on my birthday.
You're welcome! The one problem with this series is that the prices vary so much from book to book. There is one of the paperbacks on sale for $8.17 right now: The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories Part XXXIV: However Improbable (1878-1888) a.co/d/6AJlAFO
Those are nice editions. Im looking forward to this event.
Thanks! I am as well. 😃
what a great collection you have amassed!
Thanks very much, Jamila! 🙏
Those books are beautiful!🌟🔍 I have Otto’s book. Thanks for showing us more of your collection.
You're welcome, Colette. Thanks for commenting!

Excellent selection! I did enjoy Cay Van Ash book with Fu Manchu.
Thanks, Roy! I enjoyed that one as well! It's about due for a reread. 📚

Thanks, Greg! They are nice-looking books.
I look forward to your videos!

😂😂😂 the MX books will hook you! I also like "the Stalwart Companions" by H Paul Jeffers in the The further adventures series.

I will definitely be doing this !
That's awesome, Derek! I'm happy to hear it!
The Ectoplasmic man? Almost sounds like like a sci-fi novel 😜
It does sound like sci-fi! That story pairs Holmes up with Harry Houdini. I haven't read it as of yet. Intriguing title, though. 🤔

my pleasure. Not necessarily my wallet's pleasure, however.
I have a great idea for my picks in this category , but won’t mention here , no spoilers!!
😀 I held mine close to the vest until I got my last video out.

Where were the MX books on sale?
I keep an eye on Amazon and try to snag the ones that go on sale. I only have 5 of them, and there are about 45 books in the series.
I will keep my eye on them as well. Thanks you.
