- Today I thought I would do something a little bit different and show you guys my Sherlock Holmes book collection. Reading is another hobby of mine, and of everything I’ve read Sherlock Holmes has been my absolute favorite character to enter my imagination. I hope you’ll enjoy watching! :-)
Also, I forgot to show “The Game” by Laurie R. King. Oh well. 😂
Always nice to see other fellow Sherlock fans material. Nice video!
I collect mostly Hound of the Baskervilles editions and comics, myself.
Aw, thank you so much! 😊 The Hound of the Baskervilles is amazing-it’s cool you collect various things related to it! :-D
Great collection Katie! And what amazing illustrations has that old edition! It invites to read it again and again 😊
Aww, thank you so much! ❤
Great video Katie! I especially liked the hard copies. Super. I noticed you even have a Sherlock Holmes figurine up there on your shelf. How cool is that. Thanks for showing us. :- )
Aww, thank you so much, my friend! I really appreciate it! :-)
Very nice collection of books! It's commendable that you find the time and enjoy reading! Keep it up! Great day!!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that, my friend! :-)
Great video as always katie!😊 That collection looks really good maybe i should give it a read someday
Aw, thank you very much! :-) Yes, you should definitely give them a read! I bet you’d like them! 😊
Very cool video, I haven’t read any Sherlock Holmes books but you sure did make them sound interesting! 😀
Thank you so much! :-) I hope you’ll like the books if you decide to give them a read! 😊
I love your collection. Read all the canon. I need to get into other pastiches.
Thank you so much! 😊 Yes, there’s just so many pastiches it can be hard to choose which to try! I hope you find I a good one! 👍
A really nice collection indeed, very impressed, keep up the excellent work😊
Aww, thank you so much! I really appreciate that! :-)
This is wonderful...I am an avid Holmes fan as well...Marvelous collection...love your channel
Aww, thank you! It’s nice to meet another Holmes fan! :-D I’ve found that they’re somewhat hard to come by, especially with the original stories-most people only like the newer adaptions. Thank you very much for watching, my friend! 😊
Well read and into music Coool .
Aw, thank you! :-)
Those are some beautiful books, very impressive collection… When I was growing up, on weekend nights after the late news they used to show the 1940’s Sherlock Holmes movies starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. A lot of purists didn’t like the portrayal of Watson in those films, but I loved them and they remain among my favorite old black and white films and I have most on them on DVD. I have read “Hound Of The Baskervilles” and “The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes” - I enjoyed “Hound” very, very much.. Neat video and an interesting surprise topic 👍
Thank you so much! :-) Yes, I love the Basil Rathbone films! I am a bit of a purist, but I love Holmes so much that I’ll watch pretty much anything related to the stories. That said, I still don’t really mind how the Rathbone films portrayed Watson. There are worse things to get wrong, in my humble opinion. 😂 I’m glad you didn’t mind the change of subject, and thank you so much for watching!
great video katie, love your book collection , im not much of a novel reader but do have some coffee table books on sherlock, i can see where they were going with dracula crossover as sherlock was part of the universal monsters cannon back in the 30s to the 50s and they were famous for their crossover movies back then, the basil rathbone sherlock movies of this period are the best, remember watching the great mouse detective back in the 80s when i was a child great , cheers katie
Aww, thank you so much! 😊 Yes, I do love the old monster movies (thinking of the book like one of them makes sense, so thanks for that!), as well as the Basil Rathbone films! I wish they still made movies like them, because they were truly so entertaining! Your coffee table books sound very interesting, by the way! :-D
Cool collection. Gotta get my hands on the illustrated version you shared at the end. I haven’t read Nicholas Meyer yet, but I valued your opinion on the different books. I recommend Lyndsay Faye’s novel, “Dust and Shadow “!
Aw, thank you so much! I hope you're able to check out some of Nicholas Meyer's books--they're quite good! And I have gotten to read 'Dust and Shadow' actually! It was definitely a great book, so thanks for the recommendation nonetheless! 👍
I haven't read any Sherlock Holmes books, but your collection is pretty cool. 🔎 And I like your shirt, very appropriate for the video. 😉
Aww, thank you so much! I hope you’ll like the books if you ever decide to give them a read! They’ve made me pretty happy for a long time now, and I hope they’d do the same for you. Have a great rest of your day! 😊
Great collection.
Aw, thanks so much, my friend! 😊
You are a heck of a collector!
Haha, thank you! :-)
Wow, I never would have guessed you were into S.H.! Impressive collection also, might I add. Reading about the Civil War is something I enjoy. That Lava Lamp looks cool. Would be pretty groovy to use it during a Beatles video. Until next time... ☮
Haha, yes I love anything Sherlock Holmes or similar to it. I think I’m drawn to such a level of intelligence-perhaps because I don’t have it. 😂 The Civil War is very interesting to read about, too! I used to read some of my dad’s books about it. :-D Oh that’s a good idea-I’ll have to try to incorporate it in a Beatles video! Thanks so much, my friend! :-)
Great collection, thanks for showing us! Did you ever read the rest of the Russell & Holmes series? I've read them all, and I think they're great.
Aww, thank you so much! I really appreciate it! :-) Unfortunately I haven’t read all of them yet. I stopped after O Jerusalem, which I did like. I think I just couldn’t find hard copies and therefore ended up drifting to other books. If you say they’re all great I’ll have to pick them back up, though! I do love Mary and Holmes’s dynamic, haha. Thanks again, my friend!
I was given a book with all the Sherlock Holmes stories, but haven’t read any of it yet. Can you recommend a story to start with that is a favorite to give me an idea of whether I will like the stories or not?
Aw, of course! The first in the series is “A Study in Scarlet,” so I started with that one, though it is a novel. The first of the short stories ever written was “A Scandal in Bohemia,” so because I like to go in order (you may not, though) I’d recommend that one. Really any of them are great, though. One of my favorites is The Reigate Squires. :-)
Yes I noticed a large green Paul McCartney-The Lyrics book on yer shelf.
Good eye! It is The Lyrics! :-) I’ll be showing it with the part two of my Beatles books, if you’re interested. 😊 Thanks for watching!
Very nice collection of wonderful reading material! I'd like to recommend you "O Xangô de Baker Street" by Jô Soares (the translated title changed to "A Samba for Sherlock"). There are both the book and the movie.
Thank you so much! :-) And thank you for the recommendation! I will definitely check it out-any new Holmes story is always welcome! 👍
Sherlock Holmes too?? Geez you are good taste in person. Good video!
Thank you so much! That is very kind of you! :-D Do you like Sherlock Holmes, too?
@@katiegl Yes! I love mystery books in general! It's just awesome to bring to the beach haha!
@@spider9254Aw, cool! :-D I’m with you on both counts! Mystery books are amazing and also nice things to take to the beach! (Unless the wind blows too hard, and you lose your page, haha)
@@katiegl Yes! It happened the other day. My books are usually pretty old so some pages are just detached.
@@spider9254Nothing wrong with that! I love old books because I end up imagining all the people who have read the book before me! :-D
Hello Katie do you use goodreads? Awesome work on the song covers btw
I do, actually! It’s extremely helpful when it comes to keeping up with what I’ve read, haha. And thank you so much! I really appreciate that! :-)
I am currently reading Sherlock Holmes valley of fear. It is good.
That is a great one! I’m glad you’re enjoying it! :-)
Was that Sherlock Holmes lurking to the right of the lava lamp? I didn't realize that Holmes had that many crossovers. Very fascinating! 😃
Haha, yes it is! Good eye! :-D There are a lot of crossovers, and I’m glad because I am hopelessly obsessed with the Holmes stories. 😂 Thank you so much for watching, my friend!
Ahhhh cool beans. Thank you! I'm glad you have a plethora of options to enjoy your fandom. You're welcome! :)@@katiegl
Where can I get the tshirt men’s size?
@@Houseoffrankenstein87It was a gift, so I’m not entirely sure, but I do believe it was from Amazon. :-)
I think The Hound of the Baskervilles is an atmospheric read and Holmes disappears for a while and you think ' what's going on why isn't he on the case? '.
My current fav, you might know the books, are the Robert Galbraith novels (but it's actually J.K.Rowling). One of the main characters Robin Ellicott wants to be a detective too but finds the world having set expectations about what women should do with their lives.
I used to share modern crime novels with my 85yr old neighbour, and warn her about the killing and the swearing and she used to say 'oh I don't mind '.
I deduce that is a stringed instrument in shot: see I'm good.
Yes, I completely agree with you about The Hound of the Baskervilles! I read it for the first time when I had Covid, so unfortunately my main memory of it is being sick, but if I read it again maybe that’ll change. 😂 I haven’t heard of that book series, but it sounds super interesting! I’ll have to check it out-I’m always looking for new reads! And yes, it’s a violin beside me, good eye! I tried to teach myself to play, but it’s so hard that I haven’t made it too terribly far, haha. Thanks so much for watching, my friend! 😊
I would imagine you know of the TV show called Sherlock, but if not, it is a wonderful series. It showed on PBS as it was being created. Sadly, the series has ended.
Oh my goodness, yes! I love that show! :-D (I’m honestly probably an even bigger fan of the soundtrack, though the plot of the show is pretty good as well. 😂)
@@katieglThanks, I’ll check out the sound track.
WOW Katie , you are with out a doubt. A old soul that's good there should be more young people like you Mabye this earth would fare a lot better.!!! PS. I'm not a big Sherlock Holmes fan but. Like the people say today " you go girl " .. I give you a ton of credit young lady.. By the way did you get a p.o.. Box yet ? THANK you Frank from montana........
Haha, thank you very much! There are very few modern things that I’m interested in, I will admit. 😂 Unfortunately I still have not been able to procure a P.O. Box, but as soon as I do I will definitely let you know. :-) I really appreciate it, my friend, and I hope you have a great weekend! 😊
A classic was "Sherlock Holmes Meets the Invisible Man."
The weird thing is...
every other page is blank.
Peace on earth.
Haha, that’s pretty good. 😂 Thanks for watching!
BOY........( I wish you could read me a bedtime story) Wadda Babe
Elementary my dear Katie! (Someone was bound to say that so I thought I would get in first). I wouldn't have picked you as a Sherlock fan, but somehow I'm not surprised that you are. Your musical creativity and general demeanor suggests you have great depth of personality, so I guess it is inevitable that you will pull rabbits like this out of the hat. (Also, Conan Doyle never used the phrase 'elementary my dear Watson' in any of his writings - maybe it was used in film adaptations, idk. Whatever. Who cares.)
Haha, that is very kind of you! :-) It’s actually quite nice to hear something like that-I’m honored, really. ❤️ Oh my goodness, isn’t it weird that “Elementary, my dear Watson” is the most quoted words from the books, and yet it was never said at all? I’ll never understand that. 😂 Thanks for watching, my friend! I really appreciate it!
@@katiegl I was going to liken your depth of personality to the ocean, in that you can see how vast it is from the surface, but you don't appreciate how deep it is until you dive in, and even then you realise that the more you explore the more there is to explore. But I thought that might sound a bit cringey, so I didn't write it... but now I've written about not writing it, it defeats the purpose of not writing it in the first place, so forget you just read this. 😜
'Play it again Sam' is another famous quote, supposedly from a movie but that line was never said. Urban mythology. One of The Monkees once told a reporter in jest that one year The Monkees outsold The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, but the reporter reported it as fact and it has been repeated as 'fact' ever since, even by otherwise credible sources. Another one of The Monkees was having fun and told a reporter that Charlie Manson auditioned for the band, total made up BS, but it also gets repeated as 'fact'. When things get repeated often enough they can be accepted as true, a trait of human nature that I guess is elementary my dear Watson... 🤔
@@Ash-fd6lwAww, that is just so nice of you, wow! 😊 Haha, I don’t think it’s cringey at all. I think it’s touching, truly. :-) Oh I didn’t know about those misquotes, too! It’s just so weird that that happens. I suppose it’s almost like mishearing a word, and when a bunch of people do it it becomes misconstrued that the misheard thing is fact. It’s very interesting (my dear, Watson, haha). Thanks again, my friend!
