Burroughs was the author that did it for me as a teenager and turned me into an avid reader. I’ve read just about every Novel he wrote. Started with the Venus series back in the early 80’s and didn’t stop. That ACE / Frazetta painting of City of Gold is also a favorite of mine. No other illustration captures the mystery of Burroughs hidden Africa than that image.
Yes! I don't know where I would be as a reader if it wasn't for discovering Burroughs and Howard as a teenager. They instilled a sense of romanticism and adventure in my soul!
It is Tarzan week! Nice video and great Ace ERB collection M&M. (I also like that Lost Empire cover!) And now I have to read my copy of 'At the Earth's Core'!
Of course this is awesome! I have a lot of these Ace editions but not all. I don’t have that great Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar with the Frazetta cover.
Hi Michael, They are beautiful covers, and I do feel very lucky to have them. The Jewels of Opar was such a great story and deserved an awesome Frazetta cover! Thanks for commenting!
Thanks, Jim. The ERB show-and-tell was a real treat! By comparison my own collection is rather meagre; I have the Martian and Venus Tales, and The Moon Maid in a mixture of New English Library and Ballentine covers. The Tarzan tales and a number of other Burroughs's stories I have on Kindle only - I *really* need to buy more of them in paperback format.
Hey Andrew! Thanks for checking it out! Your collection will grow. I've been lucky enough to have been collecting these for years when they were easier (and cheaper) to get, but they're still out there. If you stick with it and seek them out, your collection will grow. Thanks for commenting, as always.
Edgar Rice Burroughs and Frank Frazetta goes together like Peanut butter and Jelly. I was fortunate enough to have Frazetta's son as a tour guide for the artists museum, surprised to find out Mr Frazetta didnt care much for Science Fantasy stories. He was obsessed with baseball 😂
I’m glad I found your channel, Jim. I’m a big fan of Conan and Tarzan. Grew up reading much of the former, not so much the latter except for the initial novel. I’m trying to rectify my lack of ERB. Also a big Sherlock fan, and hope to join your February reading.
Love those editions and covers! Thank for sharing. I'm actually currently reading A Princess of Mars and really enjoying it. I recently found your channel and love your pulp reading choices and collection!
OMG, I love the Burroughs Ace Science Fiction Classics! I recently decided that I’m going to put together a full set of those (as I can find them in good condition). I’m currently reading through the Tarzan series, so I have a number of those (reading that copy of the Jewels of Opar right at the moment, actually!). MKV tells me that they stopped doing them, so I can’t get all 24 Tarzan books in that version 🙁. I agree…. Tarzan and the Lost Empire is my favorite Tarzan one. I also love the Lost Continent cover, but have yet to acquire it. That is a beautiful collection you’ve got there, and in such great condition…. I’m so jealous!
Thanks, Dave! They are fantastic books, but yeah, they don't have the complete Tarzan in the Ace editions. If I remember correctly, Ace didn't initialially have the rights to publish certain Burroughs books. So some kind of deal was struck where Ballantine Books got the rights to the Tarzan and John Carter series while Ace ended up with the rights to the rest of his library of titles. That's why you won't see Ace Tarzans in later editions (with the exception of Tarzan at the Earth's Core, which is part of the pellucidar series), and no John Carter books with Ace. I might be a little rusty on details, but I think that was the case, more or less. Jewels of Opar is one of the better Tarzan novels! I'd like to complete my Ace editions, though, and I should look into it further to see what I need to complete it. Thanks for commenting, Dave!
I have the book, Master of Adventure that the article quotes from and had read all about the contentious issue of copyright in that book, but I'd forgotten most of the details.
I do as well, sleepyreader! RGK was a huge influence on Frazetta's early work. Krenkel gave pointers to Frazetta to improve his pen and ink work. That could explain the similarities. Thanks for your comment!
Is not the best Conan collection I've seen, but I'm pretty happy with it. It's taken a bit to collect, I've been a Conan reader since high school. Thanks for commenting!
@@MysteryandMayhem-gr7nn me too since middle school the savage sword of Conan was my jam. It borrows alot of Howard's actual stories. I have that same Howard complete Conan chronicles and the first volume of savage sword as well as a volume of horror short stories by him.
The Savage Sword mag was incredible! I'd like to have more of the hardcover omnibuses, but I've got everything in the original comics, and the hardcovers are expensive.

Those Ace editions!🌟 When paperbacks were paperbacks. Never had the pleasure of reading Mr. Burroughs. Another great video, Jim!😃
Thanks, Colette! They really knew how to package a story back then. 😃

Thanks, Grammaticus! They really are iconic covers. Thanks for commenting!

Great collection. ERB was a big part of my childhood.
Me as well, Bob! I couldn't imagine my life without his stories. Thanks!
Egad, sir! What a collection!
Thanks, Kat Jack! 😃
I also love Edgar rice Burroughs!
He is awesome!

The Frazetta museum is definitely a place I want to visit one of these days. Burroughs and Frazetta certainly were a match made in heaven. 💯
I always watch your videos and I got the urge to get a Sherlock Holmes book because of you talking about it. I cant wait to start reading it.

@@MysteryandMayhem-gr7nn Ah, that’s interesting. So how did Ace do the earlier Tarzan ones? They initially had a license and then that expired?
Here's a link that could probably explain it better than I:

Sometimes I'm not sure when I'm looking at early Frazetta or Krenkel. Love them both.

Great video- wonderful paperback collection.😊@@MysteryandMayhem-gr7nn
Thank you!
Amazing collection. Have you read them all?
Thank you! I have read every Burroughs book in my collection. Some of them not for a very long time, though. Long overdue for a reread!
Do you like Bernard Cornwell? That's who got me into reading.
I've never read a Bernard Cornwell ... but his books have been on my radar for quite awhile.
Ok love the the books but that conan shelf in the background absolutely stole the show. Jealous.
