Cancel! I canceled my Amex Platinum because the benefits did not justify the high annual fee. I also had a hard time finding a hotel within the $200-$400 within the FHR portfolio and I assumed that when it came time to cancel the card, I would never get a chance to use this credit because I am not paying $1000+ for a room. Literally two weeks before I was due to cancel the card, I found myself unexpectedly in Jakarta on my way back to the US and was able to book the Four Seasons for $258 USD a night so I ended up paying only $58 out of pocket + I got free breakfast and $100 resort credit which I used for a massage. A sweet spot for sure! Happy I got to use it before I canceled it last month.

When Nicole said "should keep the kids" I spit out my coffee. So random and unexpected.😄 I 100% agree with how hard it is to find good value with the FHR credit. I live between Philly and NYC and those areas seems to be like $800 minimum. Las Vegas does have some FHR/Hotel collection selections that can provide value. I vote cancel....unless you get a MASSIVE retention offer.

@@nicolehaynes7825 I agree. I cant imagine paying over 1k for a card and some authorized users. It was the change from 175 for three users that actually stopped me from getting the Platinum. Amex keeps sending me 150k SUB offers. They are trying to break me.

Thank you for answering my video question!! I do think I’ll upgrade my CSP to CSR once I hit the one year mark. I have the regular Capitol One Venture that allows two visits to Capitol One lounge, so I’ve been to the DFW lounge twice. That’s what got me interested!!
The Eagles concert was amazing. The Hyatt Regency was just two blocks from the venue, so we valet parked the car and walked to dinner and the concert. And the club access was fun after the concert. Even though this club was bare minimum, my friends and I were able to hang out and visit.

Their transfer bonuses ARE insane! There was a short little sentence in a recent filing they had that included mortgages so we are crossing our fingers!

I was in the same boat Nicole! Cancelled Amex Platinum, the last straw was the AU fee increase from $175 for 3 to $195 pp. I instead upgraded my CSP to CSR, looking forward to those Chase lounges in EWR and JFK.
Am surprised no love for the Bilt card, their transfer bonuses are insane. There’s 5x for 5 days signup bonus, which I maxed out, and it’s been clutch for my son’s college apt rent.
Btw i liked the game. Found 4 viewpoints interesting when discussing these cards. Might even consider the Hawaiian card now. Cap1 VX, denied, have AU instead. Citi Prem, have it and love it together with Citi Custom Cash.
Regarding the lounge question, Amex/Priority pass doesn’t mind us using multiple Priority pass lounges in a layover?

love the game! maybe try a few with specific hotel properties/flights? For me I want to stay at the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam but have struggled (understatement) finding availability to utilize a free night certificate
Use a tool to set alert like maxmypoint. i stayed at WA Amsterdam on a FNC earlier this year. It's nice but not amazing in my opinion. Not a breakfast buffet at WA Amsterdam. I actually liked the Intercontinental Amstel in Amsterdam better for luxurious stay.

For Venture X. If you have P2 as an authorized user, can he still apply for Venture X? If so, do I have to cancel him first as an AU then apply or apply then cancel as an AU?
Hi Duchess. Yes he can! No need to remove him as an AU. You can refer him with your link and your household gets even more points!
Yes and no. My P2 was an AU first and then we applied for a card for him while he was AU and he got approved. Keep in mind that this was our first travel card so not a lot of lines of credit.

Cancel the card if you can’t at least get more value then what the AF costs you! I just canceled my Amex Gold Card. The retention offer was pathetic. 10,000 points for 2,000 dollars in spend.

How long does one have to cancel when the annual fee post?
With Amex you have 30 days to cancel and get the fee refunded. If you downgrade, you’ll get the prorated fee back.
Cancel the Amex for kids for sure!
But with cancelling, do you worry about going into AmEx jail and not being approved for another AmEx card for years? (I hear they do that a lot!)
Good question. No one really knows what causes Amex to throw someone in pop up jail so it’s hard to tell. We can rephrase it and ask: Should we pay Amex $1,085 in fees hoping we stay out of jail? Our answer is nope!
Is there any room to advocate for myself here? JL axed my KIX-LAX in July, and CX rebooked me on the same flight next day (I had bought with Asia Miles), meaning I’ll need to come up with more points or $ for an extra night of lodging. Is this situation just the way it goes, no responsibility on the part of the airlines, and just enjoy an extra day in Japan? Btw I kinda liked the game and am curious where it might go. Maybe a snappier title could be: Like It, Want It, Meh…or Like It, Want It, &*#@ It! 😂

Definitely enjoy your extra day in Japan. Unfortunately this is just the way it goes. We do think it's worth reaching out to each airline to see what they can offer you, if anything. Worth a shot. Unfortunately airlines have lots of leniency because in their contract of carriage all they are obliged to do is get you from one place to another, any way they want. Also, as Mitch has recommended in the past, put in a complaint with the DOT for both instances. Airlines are required to respond. Good luck and let us know what happens.
