    I’m just kinda repeating part of what the others have said. With the alclad chrome I would suggest a little more psi and spray a little farther back from your work piece, with a faster back and forth motion making sure to start spraying before the edge of your work piece and not stoping till after the edge of the work piece. And the amount of paint you sprayed on in the first coat was probably what you should have used for all three coats combined. It takes a bit of experimenting but as good as it looked when you sprayed it, it can look even better.

    Nice video! Audio was a little quiet. It looked like your coats were a little heavy, I've heard for the best shine with the alclad you want to go as light as possible. Great comparison though, the AK's got nothing on alclad

      Thanks for the comment. Yes my audio definitely needs some improvement. I did also spray heavier than I wanted. I may try to do more comparisons of Metal paint and will have to spray lighter on the next video.

    Good video but, It's recommanded to polish the AK colors to get the miror effect that everyboby wants ;-) Also We have a big difference with a black gloss primer...

    I have used both and gotten the exact same results but in my opinion, the key to reflectivity on any of these is using 2K clear. It will look more reflective and also more durable.

    Interesting comparison buddy. The key is to go very light so that you can get the reflection happening from the black. I was a fan of Alclad but now use Molotow chrome refills through my airbrush with super light coats and I find it gives a better chrome finish out of all the chrome paint. The key though is to not touch it for a couple of weeks and let it flash off as the chrome can rub off.

    Nice comparison. I noticed your Alclad gloss black base has a little orange peel going on. If you try adding Mr Leveling Thinner to it (~10-15%) and spray ~25psi, the issue should go away. I personally add ~20% volume of MLT to my gloss black base before spraying and all of my test spoons dry to a smooth, reflective surface that I can see my own face on. I know you weren't really going for the mirror finish chrome look, but it the MLT really helps the gloss black base get that ultra smooth finish.

    • @weekendhobbyist
      @weekendhobbyist  3 года назад

      Thanks for the tip. In this test I was trying to keep it straight forward to compare each paints results. But for future use I’ll definitely trying adding in Leveling Thinner. I love that stuff! Thanks 🙏🏼

    Have you ever used gloss white, gloss light gray or dark gray as a base coat. I realize you videotaped a pretty small sample and it may look different in person, I wonder if the aluminum affect might look brighter with a lighter base coat.

      For the best metal finish you will have to use a smooth glossy black base. With a non-glossy base the final finish won’t be as smooth and reflective.
