How did you get the airframe aluminium to come out that shiny I've got a bottle of there gloss black base and the airframe aswell as a couple others but mine hasn't turned out like yours it's got a bit of shine to it but not much and polishing with a cotton rag hasn't helped. Did you clear coat them ?
I didn't clear coat these. But if you do clear coat them use Alclad Aqua Gloss or Vallejo Metal Varnish. Not sure why mine came out shinier than yours. Sometimes a clear gloss over the black will help with a High Shine
I tried the Polished Brass and for some reason it's coming out as splotches with white spots. I'm spraying at 10-15 psi at a good distance (6-8 inches) and I've cleaned the airbrush before spraying. Used for shiny look (look for a flat topcoat if you want the surface to be flat) , maybe a lacquer based topcoat might offer better paint protection because aqua gloss is water-based it could be ruined by other types of paint you might be using.
Great video, however i didn't get the same great results. The black gloss primer seems to come out with a slight almost fiber texture and the aircraft aluminium comes out more duller than the result you achieved unfortunately 😕
@@barbatosrex9473 hi Barbados, I'm using a cheap kit and nothing like your set up. In light of my comments I've since done some more research found that its most likely me at fault for the results. I didn't put down a nice gloss finish with the primer before applying the airframe aluminium which I'm guessing is the key factor to achieving a more mirror finish? Distance wise I kept at roughly 8 inches and I can't accurately set the pressure to 15 so I had to judge it which doesn't help :)
@@pixel_infusion8281 The first time I used Alclad I didn't get good results and wondered how others did. For this paint it all comes down to PSI! I shot it at way lower psi to any other paints and it comes out perfect. I was shooting at my usual Tamiya 18-20 and with this 12-15 is best. Even down to 10 it lays on perfect. As we see with this video, they also mostly require a base coat to look perfect.

@@barbatosrex9473 Use that varnish and it comes off when you put masking tape on it. It doesn't seem to stick well
Have you tried any lacquer clear topping? Alclad has some. I do like Mr Super Clear too
@@barbatosrex9473 thanks! 😉
Can you apply tamiya clear acrylics over this? I want to try it with the Chrome one and see what happens
Great review. What PSI on airbrush did you use? No thinning of Alcad steel color?
No thinning, 15 psi
Got a stupid question for you ,how do u have your paint booth hook up,where does your fumes comes out
I love the comparisons you did. Do you need to thin the Alclad gloss black base?
No thinning at all. Straight out of the bottle
What happens when you put the gold over the chrome?
Can you paint these on with a paintbrush instead of air brushing?
what needle do you use for spraying chrome sometimes my chrome comes cloudy
Great video, yes i did enjoy it and learned something new….thank you.
how do you polish after painting?
Yes,Alclad actually sells there own Micro Mesh polishing sheet set
Can someone please tell me the difference between gloss black ALC305 AND ALC309, I'm trying to do some chromes but I don't know exactly what to get since I'm trying to buy it on amazon and it has poor descriptions
ALC 305 is what you want. Amazon seems over priced though. I paid under $10 for my bottle.
Www.houseofhobbies.com has it for $4, great place to buy from
@@barbatosrex9473 hey, thanks for the help.
This channel is so underrated...
Thanks buddy 👍 I'm doing my best
i dot even use primer with steel and magnesium, exhaust manifold also
i'm using an iwata micron and spraying the gloss black base, it actually made my spoon less shiny. After using polished aluminum I do not get the same results as in the video...... not sure what is wrong
I need help, im trying to apply the polished brass just like you did but im not getting anything near the same reflection
The Polished Brass has been discontinued because of poor quality control. It's the only color they've discontinued for it gave inconsistent results
Thanks for the review it’s very informative. You just earned a sub
Thanks friend,, and thank you for watching
Word
hi! i have a question you try or anyone try mr color metallics over alclad black gloss
@@barbatosrex9473 brilliant thanks will give that a go
Where can I find an ammo belt like what you have on that Minigun?
I'm not sure, it came with the gun. I believe you can try some military model diarama stuff
I tried the Polished Brass and for some reason it's coming out as splotches with white spots. I'm spraying at 10-15 psi at a good distance (6-8 inches) and I've cleaned the airbrush before spraying. Had to settle for more matte look since I've tried to do the mirror finish of the brass several time to no avail. I used the brass straight from the bottle. Would like to know you opinion on what went wrong. Thanks!
Is it an Alclad bottle or one that says Ammo Mig Alclad?
@@barbatosrex9473 It looks exactly like the one you used in the vid. I don't see Ammo Mig anywhere on the bottle.
@@valenciamarcus97 got it. I asked because Ammo are the new ones. Alclad discontinued the polished brass awhile back, I believe cause they were having troubles with it as I have read somewhere. I'm thinking you got a bad bottle
@@barbatosrex9473 Ah that makes sense. I believed someone on reddit also told me that I might have a bad one. Well that sucks after getting excited with how good yours look. Are there any other paints from them that I should look out for? Only Alclad I can get where I am are in the non-Ammo bottles.
Thank you so much man! Buying these but from ammo mig.
Ammo Mig is their UK distributor. Great paints 👍
Escuse me barbatos, the chrome paint wasn't fading when you touch without top coats?
Not really. Once it dries for almost a week it's pretty durable. But check my clear coat test video for coating Alclad Chrome
I see. First, I used armored komodo chrome and it was faded when I touching even it was cured already a day. Then, I changed to alclad chrome. But, it faded also after 1 day curing.. I'm gonna try your advice, thank you mr. Barbatos.
Great vid. Never heard of “alunimum” though haha
Hi, by any chance, could you tell me if the polished aluminum will work over black plasti dip primer? Thank you :)
Yes it should work.
@@barbatosrex9473 Thank you!
Can you mask alclad paint?
Fantastic Video!!!!
Thanks, this truly is a great line up of paints
@@barbatosrex9473 Yes I think so too. These will go great with my resin prints. do you have a link where all the assortment of colors can be purchased?
Can you tell me the correct chrome to purchase to get the mirror like effect
@@cosmic2x472 watch one of my new videos, I love Green Stuff World Chrome, I was shocked as to how great it is and it's durable. I love Alclad but this Green Stuff World Chrome is the best I've tested so far
do you know anyone who has tested their gunmetal metalic? I can't find any good photos of it.
It's funny cause I just sprayed some of their Gun Metal over the weekend. I love it.
@@barbatosrex9473 sweet, can't wait to see it. I just tried it over gloss black, and it just looks black... So hopefully I can see a master get some good results.
@@arusiasotto you can see it in one of my new videos, I sprayed it during the Iwata Eclipse airbrush test video from last week. Check it out
@@barbatosrex9473 checked it out, i must have missed it somewhere, I just saw the Alclad Steel?
Where can you get the Polished Brass? I can't seem to source it anywhere... Can only find Gold Titanium, which just isn't as warm as the Brass. Anyone know where to get it now?
I hate to says this but I found out after I filmed this video that the Polished Brass has been discontinued. I got mine at a local hobby shop. Old stock I'm guessing. I'll check with them tomorrow to see if he has any left. I do believe they're going to reissue it so be on the look out.
@@barbatosrex9473 Thanks, I appreciate the response! I've had my eyes open for it for a minute or two so I'll just keep looking and hope it geta reissued soon, lol Thanks again!
You can still get it under the name Ammo Mig Alclad polished brass.
@@tomcarroll3338 do you know if the ammo mig version is the same recipe rebranded or if it's something new? I actually just got it from spray Gunner after seeing how amazing it looked in this video and I just can't get it to work. I have airframe aluminum too and it behaves exactly like in barbatos rex video: goes on slightly hazy and then clears up like a mirror. It seems from this video that the polished brass should do that too but it just seems to go on as a Rich almost semi-gloss brass or gold. I'm spraying the two exactly the same way and when I try spraying even lighter with the polished brass then it just looks like a semi-gloss brass with black flecks in it
Have you tried or use house of Kolor paints?
I haven't, I was only able to find large bottles of it for $50 a color. Do you know a place I can get them in smaller amounts?
@@barbatosrex9473 try coast airbrush in Anaheim California. I use to get the 1oz. Bottles from my local hobby shop (Pegasus hobbies) but they stop ordering from the distributor they have, but they have some colors but not all. Coast airbrush sells small bottles but they are bigger than 1oz.
Smallest I've seen on the site was 4oz.
Can I place candy color on air frame aluminum?
Yes for sure. It looks great too
Can the pale gold over black take a Matt clear coat
Yes,, I recommend an acrylic matt
Thanks. Love the videos by the way👍🏼. Started 3d printing and want to start YouTubing myself. Going to print an Ironman suit. Is it possible to airbrush to that scale?
@@snoddy6653 sure, just have the needle and nozzle match the scale. The larger the project the larger the needle and vise versa
Is there a good place online to buy these paints?
Go here and search Alclad spraygunner.com?aff=10

Great video. Thanks for sharing . Hey what is the 2 chrome blue spoons you on the table rom. I need that color.
PS
Your hobby room and paint collection is incredible p. I’m so jealous! Kutgw!
Thanks buddy, those 2 spoons are from the Dollar Tree, little chrome plated cocktail spoons covered with Tamiya Clear blue on one and Mr Color Clear blue on the other.
Man I used alclad steel over the alclad gloss black and it just comes out as looking like a matte black. No shine or nothing not even a little really disappointed me but it's clearly I didn't something wrong
What psi did you spray at?
15
Great job
Thank you. This is a fairly old video and I forget sometimes it's out there. I'm trying to test all the metal paints out there. The AK Extreme paints are about as good as these. Check out my video on those too

Not even Cyndi Lauper has such a stadium of colors!
😉
Alclad is incredibly hard to find in stores😫
Sorry to hear that. I have 2 stores hear in the smallest state that have them but all my favorite online retail hobby stores have full stocks, that's where I filled out my collection
@@barbatosrex9473 is the alclad clear coat safe to apply on pale gold? And is alclad clear coat enamel or acrylic based?
Just Whoa!
What is Alclad Aqua Gloss ALC-600 used for? Is it a paint protector or does it just add shine?
Used for shiny look (look for a flat topcoat if you want the surface to be flat) , maybe a lacquer based topcoat might offer better paint protection because aqua gloss is water-based it could be ruined by other types of paint you might be using.
Great video, however i didn't get the same great results. The black gloss primer seems to come out with a slight almost fiber texture and the aircraft aluminium comes out more duller than the result you achieved unfortunately 😕
Can you give me more details on your equipment and air pressure. Needle size, distance from airbrush ect...
As we see with this video, they also mostly require a base coat to look perfect.
fyi with those metalizers you cannot keep spraying, the more you put on the duller the finish cover it and stop!!!!!
I think your trying to tell me to do much lighter coats?? I do tend to have a heavy hand but I'll be going lighter here on in...Thanks
Lol yeah that makes sense. I tried the polished brass and i got a horribly dull finish. But i had sprayed like 3 heavy ass coats
It is a pity you move the cam so much at the end when you are showing your colors, the movement made to feel sick and it is not possible to see the paints. Nevertheless, it is a very good review.
I'm trying to get better at that. I also started to put a screen shot of the spoons at the end of my videos, check out my latest. But I'm doing my best to get better at this, my channel got popular pretty fast and this is a learn as you go kinda thing. I don't even use a professional camera and I can only see half of what I'm doing. 😉 But thank you for watching and I promise to get better at that
Your videos are like crack 😂 speaking of cracks I'm getting a lot of varying info on which paints damage gundam plastic, have you had any issues with these cracking or breaking your gun pla?
Mine never look that mirror shiny.
Aluninum isn't the worst pronunciation I've heard. I've heard Aluminuminum.
Dark alunamun
Aluminum, not Alunimum
Do they make Gold Chrome ??
ООТЛИЧНЫЕ ТЭСТЫ!
very twitchy !
alunimum
I love your channel, but I have to give you some constructive feedback. it's painful to hear you struggle with the word aluminum. "Aloo-na-mum" is how you repeatedly say it and it makes you sound like a third grader. For someone who reviews colors and has to say that word a lot you should consider practicing the correct way to enunciate "Aloo - mi - num" That's it, everything else on your content is awesome! Thank you for your hard work.
Great comparison and review. Constructive feedback: I thought I was having a stroke every time you mispronounced and said “Alunimum”. Made it hard to watch and finish the video. Also, you repeat yourself a lot a repeatedly use filler phrases which also makes it hard to watch a long video.
Sorry man, you show things too fast. You show things for only a second up close. We can't analyze. Might as well be radio. Handheld... no.
Please. If you're gonna say a color 50 times in a video, please pronounce it properly.
Literally my only negative feedback. Good job otherwise.
I assume you mean aluminum? In which case he is pronouncing it properly - the pronunciation varies by country and region, especially in the US.
@@chives6423 No. He's mixing up the M and N the way children do. There is "Aluminium" and "Aluminum", not "Alunimum"
If im wrong, please feel free to show me any language that pronounces it "Alunimum"
It's a small thing, but i seriously can't handle hearing it more than 20 times before i have to stop it
Can you paint these on with a paintbrush instead of air brushing?
