Nanny Arrested for Stealing From Hoboken ShopRite

- Around 6:11 PM on August 5, 2023, Officers Anthony Azzoline and Dominick Allegretta with the Hoboken Police Department responded to a report of a shoplifting at ShopRite on 900 Madison Street. They entered the store around 6:16 PM and walked upstairs to the loss prevention office. In the loss prevention office, they met with the loss prevention officer as well as the alleged shoplifter, who was identified as 43-year-old Katherine.
The loss prevention officer informed the officers that he saw the woman start concealing items inside her personal shopping cart around 4:56 PM. He continued to observe her on the surveillance system until she approached the self-checkout line at 5:51 PM. At the self-checkout aisle, Katherine did pay for approximately $90 worth of items using a credit card, while attempting to leave without paying for an additional $229.18 worth of items.
The officers were provided with an itemized receipt of the value of the items she had allegedly attempted to steal. Based on the value of the items she had stolen, the store decided to press charges against her. Officer Allegretta placed Katherine under arrest for shoplifting. She was handcuffed and escorted to the patrol car.
Katherine was transported to the Hoboken Police Department for further processing. At police HQ, she was searched in more detail by Officer Lee. Katherine was finger printed and photographed her. She was charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(1) and released pending her court appearance.
Court records indicate that on December 19, 2023, Katherine entered no plea in court, and the original charge under 2C:20-11B(1) was amended to Disturbing the Peace (145-1). Katherine also paid a total of $283 in fines.

It's one of two things- either the location is not in the best of areas, OR they don't usually prosecute most of the shoplifters and word gets spread around

Just so people know if you see those condos across from the store some are going for a million dollars, there’s thousands of people in this store daily and just cause there’s now like 10 videos from here and one was from 2022 that’s not really a lot if you check stats. Eli Manning lived a couple blocks from here when he was playing just to give a little reference. I think they try it here cause they hope they’ll just want them kicked out. This chick definitely a thief. Obviously there’s theft everywhere.

The old retail store I worked at did that to one of the assistant managers after they stupidly took a 100 dollar bill in view of the store manager.
There assistant manager left a bad impression towards most of the management and the store manager didn’t offer to have the guy and the officers go out through the back. It was a petty move😂

@SL123-zd6kf I keep seeing article that say self-checkouts are coming to an end. I use them to go at my pace and to make sure that the prices are what they should be. Many times, the prices are wrong. When a person checks me out, they may ring up too fast that I might miss something.

This chick definitely did this before, she thinks playing her little game that it’s a joke but not today! 12 hours is not really like a killer shift to work, tell her people do it all the time and still function, faking like she falling asleep and didn’t realize is not a good excuse to be a thief. Shoplifting has been common for a long time. It has gotten worse in recent years, but shrinkage hasn’t increased as much as you would think. This particular Shoprite just seemingly has a strong loss prevention team. Those guys are doing a great job, shoplifters (and employees who steal) there are on borrowed time.

Um... if that was me and I had forgotten to pay for something, I would be sitting there crying and being a hot mess. I can understand overlooking $10 worth of items....but $75 is a lot and intentional. I shop with my backpack in my lap because I'm in a wheelchair.. I keep that thing wide open as I put stuff in and whenever someone as in an employee ..asks me if I need help at checkout, I always say yes; even when I don't need help.
And she didn’t take $75 she took over 200. $75 is just the limit that they start having people arrested when they exceed
