Entitled Woman Arrested for Stealing $165 in Items from Hoboken ShopRite

- Around 3:33 PM on March 6, 2024, Officers Samuel Flores and Dylan Archilla with the Hoboken Police Department responded to a report of a shoplifting at ShopRite on 900 Madison Street. They entered the store around 3:40 PM and walked upstairs to the loss prevention office. In the loss prevention office, they met with the loss prevention officer as well as the alleged shoplifter, who was identified as 30-year-old Shaquilla.
The loss prevention officer informed Officer Archilla that he saw the woman enter the store around 1:00 PM and later attempt to go through self-checkout without paying for $165.00 worth of items. Some of the other items were paid for. Officer Flores placed Shaquilla under arrest for shoplifting. She was handcuffed and escorted to the patrol car.
Officer Archilla retrieved the items that she had paid for and they were placed into a police cr. Shaquilla was transported to the Hoboken Police Department for further processing. At police HQ, she was searched in more detail. Detective Milne finger printed and photographed her. Shaquilla was found to have no outstanding warrants. She was subsequently charged with shoplifting under 2C:20-11B(1) and released pending her court appearance.

Nails done, hair done, new coat, thief. I haven't had my nails done in 3 years, in desperate need of a haircut, wearing a 3 year old coat but I pay for what I need. I can't afford wants, I pay for what me and my family need.

I love having a mani and a pedi. At my age I am now in a position to be able to afford those luxuries. My husband and I worked for over 40 years so we could retire and live comfortably. When we were young many times we couldn’t afford extra’s. Theres no short cuts you must work for what u need and want! Also be a blessing to others 💕

It seems like there's a thought process when stealing from conglomerates, such as Walmart and the like. I think the thieves' thought process is: "They have millions and won't miss MY taking these items." No sense of honor in that whatsoever, but it would explain why this happens so frequently.

The reason these stores have given up prosecuting is because the prosecutors give them sweet deals and let them go , because they will delay the process of court just like Sovereign Citizen/Moorish Citizens and frauditers that tie the courts up and they can’t afford to keep taking time off going to court as a witness only for these lot to get an adjournment time and time again.

On the News, I seen a New York Riteaid close up because so many people would come in, take what they wanted (or needed) and run out.
The Employees and the Store Manager just watched this go on. The Security Guard said that their NOT allowed to STOP the thieves or TOUCH them.

I had the same pay arrangement before I retired.
Believe me, most of us didn't want to get snagged into overtime.
We all have lives, and usually don't want to have more time taken up at work, versus going home and relaxing with the family, or running errands or whatever.
The officer has it right. They are constantly being called to the store for the same crap. Yet the store doesn't want to press charges all the time. Don't call the police and waste time and resources if you're not going to follow through. Stores can gripe all they want to about thieves but if you're not going to press charges, stop calling the police!

Instead of making police responsible for thieves’ purchases, they should impound the stuff, including perishables, like cars, then charge for retrieval fee. This to include a collection fee by whatever designated agency (like towing service)!
