The pattern is great...love the black cork...made it for my son who needed a wallet(had one for 30 yrs) He loved the wallet but he wanted an ID window. Purchased the kit so I did not have enough for an add on ID window. I took a piece of tan cork and dyed it black and made an ID rectangle with a flap that I glued to one of the card slots. Would love to share a picture.
OMG!! I Thought I really messed up this pattern!! But after watching this video I really don't think I did so I am back at it now! If it turns out right I send you a picture!! And Hey Thank you for sharing your talents with all of us!!
Just made my first one. Getting ready to trim it and do the last gluing. Thank you for a wonderful pattern and your tutorial. I'll be sure to post a picture on your FB group page after I finish the 2nd one
Love your pattern and your video, you make it look super easy! I wondered how does the cork hold up over time? I am a huge fan of leather and use primarily recycled leather. How would you say the cork compares in the long run? Thanks!
I’ve had pieces for 9 years and it’s still great! As with anything it depends on how you treat it. The corners wear the quickest on cork, so any hard turn will rub over time. But I’d say the roughest person can get a solid 4 years out of a cork wallet, the gentlest person can have it for years and years!
It goes together so quickly! But like you say you've made hundreds of them so it would be quick! I haven't sewn with cork or purchased anything made with it. How does it hold up? I imagine it becomes burnished as do leather wallets especially for men who pocket carry. My favorite wallet is a zip around that opens up and lays flat. It's similar to your tall wallet. It has an inner zip compartment.
If you prefer the feel of a more stable wallet then I'd suggest it, yes. But keep in mind once you have all the layers together and it's full of cards, it'll give it more uumph!
I am almost finished with this, but I do not have the room for a “gulley”? My pieces all lined up exactly. The cash slot panel is the same length as the outside panel. I cut out the pattern exactly correct so I’m not sure what happened? Actually, what ended up happening is that my cash slot piece overhung the outer piece in order to get the gulley so that it would fold properly. Sort of in reverse of what you did. I made 2 at the same time and it happened with both. Not sure what I did, but I did it twice. Lol
just made this....super fun...thanks.. I did send you an email about the svgs portion of the pattern. When I upload it to the brother canvas workspace, workspace automatically resized it, I'm sure I'm missing a step somehow...if you could look at my email, it has a more in depth description of my questions. Thanks Nicole!!
My husband has been asking me for a wallet with a lot of card slots!!! This is perfect. Thanks for a great pattern and video. Can you tell me where you got your stamp logo?
I'm at the last step and getting nothing but skipped stitches. I was using the same new 14 microtex needle, teflon foot, Juki TL2010Q. I switched to a 16 jeans needle, no improvement. I tried a 18 universal needle, and that's skipping too. I also tried compressing the layers of cork with a key fob pliers. What am I missing??
Hmm im not sure. Sometimes these machines can be a pain in the ass. Have you tried rethreading? You can also hand crank the wheel. Make sure the bobbin these is being caught by the upper thread by hand cranking just a smidge before continuing to sew.
@@SewGnar I think it came out ok, but I had to resew a lot of spots. It's for my daughter, so if it falls apart I can make her another one, no big deal. I already ordered more cork... This stuff is fun to work with and nice to use something that's good for the planet and also not leather which creeps me out.
Hi Zinia, yes it can be made in leather. You may want a stiffer leather so it holds its shape. I'm not super familiar with leatherwork but from what I gather you can burnish the edges or finish with leather edge paint.
Check out Emmaline Bags! Or there’s MM Cork as well. Fabric Funhouse ships to Canada I believe (be sure to use code SEWGNAR10 if you order from fabric funhouse!)
I recently purchased this pattern. How much are you cutting off each corner. I’m wanting to cut this using my circuit. Are you using any RFID material?
Hello! I bought your wallet pattern an SVG file today and it cut beautifully on my Silhouette cutter. I haven't put it together yet but I will tomorrow. I have a question, when you use glue and then sew over it, does your needle gum up? Also, I love your stamp with your logo! Can you share where you got it? It looks great in the wallet!

It perfect this wallet , i would try make three wallets, for my sons christmas gift. Look easy and I like the cork leather,
I'm in process of making my first wallet with this pattern. I'm using soft leather. Should I use a stabilizer to give it support?

How much can you sell them for? D-I-L is wanting to do craft fairs this summer and am trying to get ideas on what to sew and sell. Loved your tutorial
I sell them for $47!
Great tutorial - I am always a bit nervous of buying cork as never sure of quality
I always go with Fabric Funhouse. Dependable for high quality.

The cash slot panel should be .25” shorter than the main panels! The pattern has those measurements in step 1! Let me know if you have anymore issues.

How do you BRAND? That makes more sense then sewing on premade labels👍.
I have a few videos on it, search for “branding iron”
i find my edges of the card slots messy looking with the glue or edge coat. any suggestions.
I wish I had a better suggestion but all I can say is keep practicing!

Can I use a light weight vinyl for this pattern?
Yep!

Do you have a tutorial for adding an ID slot to your bi-fold wallet? 🥰 P.s unfortunately I don’t have Facebook, just Instagram 😩
I don’t! I’ve been thinking about writing it up as an add on to the pattern but I haven’t done it yet
SewGnar ive just made a little piece that I took from the key fob wallet. I’m going to have a go tomorrow 🤣
I would also love to have the ID window option for the BiFold!
What size needle do you use for sewing cork? Can you sew it on a domestic machine?
I sew everything on a domestic! I use Schmetz Microtex needles size 14 or 16.
Is there a specific thickness the cork needs to be?
No, but I wouldn’t suggest using the paper cork. A standard thickness is fine!
@@SewGnar thank you! I cannot wait to start making this
