It’s because of this type of content that there is no other channel like this one ! We want insightful information, that’s what we have with Brian, thanks a lot.
I was getting so fed up trying to get this plane out of safe mode. I would have been lost with my NX6 if it wasn't for your setup and config walkthrough. Massive thank you!!
You're welcome! You are why we do the "long format" videos. Everyone is new at some point, and we want to help everyone interested "over the hump" so they can get flying!!!
Mine just came in the mail. After watching your prop fail in the air, the first thing I did was to remove the prop and check for damage. I did find the prop nut digging into the prop. I place an aluminum washer behind the nut to evenly distribute the forces across the face of the prop apposed to uneven pressure from the factory setup. I also painted the white plastic LAS cap silver to match the fuse. The videos are awesome. Great plane.
I just ordered the Carbon Cub S2 using your link Brian. Also ordered 2 - 2200 mAh g2 3s batteries, the Smart S2100 AC Charger, 2x100W and the servo for the flaps. Thanks to you and Megan for your channel and the content you bring to it! Remy
Wonderful tips for the prop problem. Rolling to the left because of the increased prop pitch. Love to see your repairs sure helps us to keep flying instead of waiting forever for parts. Wonderful work from the camera crew. Always fun seeing that bird attack the planes. The prop pitch is too much for the grass take offs. Great to see how much patience you have in everything you do.
oh man! just had my first ever flight and maiden flight with this beauty earlier today! Winds were sustained 15mph gusting 21. Stupid, I know but i just had to get up in the air. I got up in the air did some circles and then did pattern work and practice landing approaches since the only experience i have is the RF9 simulator. Well, thank god i had that little bit of experience and messed with wind settings. i had to slip the plane like a mad man under full power to get it down and moving probably 2mph. Any less throttle input and the plane would just hover in one spot. So i got it down fairly smooth, of course a very tiny bounce from the harder foam(?) landing gear. Went up a second time because i said that was fun! i'm hooked now lol. Had the winds gust up a lot more. And had a real tough time getting it landed almost would hover when lined up with the runway. Got her down, battery had 1 light under load. So I just packed it up and went home with a smile on my face. Got home and started watching a ton of different plane videos from you because I want more. Gotta order a ton of batteries, a charger, etc. Im going full in with this hobby now.
Awesome! So glad we could help! We know the steep learning curve and high initial failure rate are TWO of the biggest issues to getting people to get in and STAY in...so we aim to help curb these issues. Thanks Chad for seeing the value in the videos; we're glad to have you in our audience!
Oh man, Megan you crack me up... of all the digs and innuendo that Brian gets in, yours are subtle & infrequent, but hit hard. 3:40... Brian: this should take about 2 minutes .... wait, where did I get the 2 minutes from. Megan quietly: personal experience Went right over Brian's head as he kept talking. You guys are awesome!. I have been going over your videos of this Cub because I am about to go to the hobby store to get one for my son. UPS packages get pretty beat up here, I am up in the boonies with over an hour on a curvy rough mountain road so I like picking things like this up in person... sorry I didn't use your link but I am joining your patreon right now to make up for it. Thank you both for all the insight!
Glad you enjoyed the videos, and sorry to hear the links won't work best for you, but we do get it ;) Thanks for being here with us!!! Good luck with the plane - you'll love it!
I just put my new cub together today , I did notice when you assembled the rudder you forgot to put the small screw in the lower hinge :( I almost missed it ! I did install the LAS and will do my first flight tomorrow, Thanks for your awesome videos...
Great video as always Pilot sir Phillips and Camera crew! Regarding the model going into safe/beginner mode randomly, I recently got the NX8 and bound/config'd my Carbon Cub. This is my first "real" transmitter so it took me about 8 thousand profiles to finally understand the surface of this RC model world. (Your vids have helped for sure) Mine had done the same thing and also seemed to have wanted to quickly disconnect RX connection until I would flail around my ailerons. I found that one of my switches unbound to any RX channel would also move along side my flaps physical and RX channel. I think there's a problem/conflict if there's a switch that "moves" but isn't bound to a real RX channel as now when I Inhibit all unused switches and RX channels, my Cub has had no issues for about 6 to 7 flights. For those having this problem, maybe my experience could help.
Thanks Brian, I have first gen carbon cub and removed the gps out of aux 1 and used flaps in aux 2, I changed aux 1 to inhibit, so no panic either, and went with 1 all and 1flap and have the flap mixing now. Set at 15 for takeoff and 30 for landing flaps elevator correction and added a mix for throttle to elevator at 18 works great for me. I love your videos, I'm a new pilot since April 2020. And your videos have helped me with my new dx8 programming. Started with sport cub s2 per your videos, great trainer for us newbies. thanks again Brian!!!
So glad I could help encourage you into this wonderful experience!!! I LOVE flying, and love helping people get from wanting to take the plunge to TAKING the plunge ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC I can't thank you enough for what you do for the hobby. You have the best channel on RUclips period. The landing gear skirt fix works great. Keep up the great work, any chance your going to do the big timber 1.5?
This is such a great video. I had the worst time getting my Cub to respond on my new DX8 transmitter the same way it did on the DXs that came with it. Couldn't get the new transmitter to see the three flight modes until I followed along on your video and ...bingo...it now works. Gonna add the flaps and come back to this video to program it. These high end programmers are a nightmare to set up properly, and there is a steep learning curve to do so that I didn't realize when I bought it. Add to that that these beginner planes have software that doesn't like to be manipulated easily and they become quite a challenge to program. I think I spent less intense time on any part of my university studies than I did to get this correct....:))
If I might make a suggestion. When a prop fits loos on the shaft try using heat shrink tubing ; start with the smallest that will fil over the shaft then a second , third and so on. No change in balance this way. P.S. Great Video
I struggled for two hours to bind a new NX8 transmitter to the receiver on this plane. I went through the same problems that you did. I finally found this video and got it working. Bummer that the proper flaps function on the transmitter doesn't work on this plane, even with the latest firmware and the BNF templates in the NX8. Spektrum should get that fixed! BTW, a few dabs of E6000 glue on the landing gear fairings worked well for me after the snap tabs broke. It's a cleaner alternative to zip ties and a drill.
As always enjoyed the video. I just completed the flap setup and ran in to some of the same issues. Unfortunately I was having so much trouble (did all this prior to watching your video) I gave up and replaced the receiver with a standard 6 ch.. All my flying for the last 6 months have been on expert so I don't miss the beginner or intermediate modes. I especially found the part on mixing helpful. Again great video, thanks.
Glad it helped - We really appreciate you being here with us! We do this for every plane anymore, so stop in when you're about to buy something and you can see how good or bad the experience was - LOL ;)
Hey Brian another informative video! I also used your idea on the zip ties on the landing gear because they always come off during a slightly rough landing. I'm also glad you explained the programming of the radio, because I am still learning how to program these newer radios. I will try the flap to elevator mix since the last time I deployed full flaps on landing it ballooned up and almost stalled causing a crash. I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos.
I'm glad you're watching. I intentionally leave in my screw ups so you can see HOW I work through these issues, as they WILL come up...so thank you for taking the time to learn. Programming on Spektrum is so easy, until it's not - LOL!!! They kinda make it so we have no other choice but to trip all over ourselves, at times. The manuals are better than industry standard, but they'll still leave you high and dry if you're not careful!!!
Super detailed video that helps me a whole bunch before I decide to activate the flaps on my Carbon Cub with my new NX8 receiver. Also, in looking for touch up yellow paint, I found an EXACT match...Tremclad yellow rust paint. I also think that a silver Rustoleum will be an exact match for the chrome grey finish on the rest of the paint...I'll let you know if it is.... In building the plane, I put the Vortex strips in the wrong place and pulling them off tore the yellow paint off.
Thanks Robert! Glad we could help! Sounds like you might have found a pretty great match, but I keep hearing people saying they'll take a wing or fuse into Home Depot or Lowes and have the paint matched. In our experience, we can't keep up with that many colors ;) Good luck, and enjoy!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Now that is a great idea. I have done that before when painting rooms...I will remember that BTW, got the battery checker in the mail today and it doesn't read the individual voltages on the G2 battery that got messed up when updating the battery firmware. The checker also won't allow me to balance the cells either. So I'm going to have to contact Spectrum but in my experience once a firmware update fails, the unit being updated is pooched permanently. Anyway, thought you might want to know. If I use it, I will have to be very careful...
FYI update...apparently many of the G2 smart batteries have a defective chip in them that won't allow any firmware updates. This is what happened to mine; the dealer replaced it under warranty and will be sending it back to Spektrum along with about 100 others with defects in them.
Informative video! A couple of months ago I picked up a Sport Cut S2. Awesome little trainer. I had to replace the motor because I flew it so much. Recently I upgraded to the UMX Turbo Timber. This plane is a blast to fly! The smaller planes are great if one has limited space in which to fly. I have both of these planes bound to a DX6e ... a nice computer radio for those on a budget.
Brian - you are a Legend !! My two boys and I are about to start RC flying and will get one of these I think. Thank you for all your tips and advice, I just know we will be watching them all again when we get the plane !! 👍
Good luck, John! I know you guys can do it. Seriously get a spare prop, and some glue ;) You will thank me later!!! I prefer to use a glue called Mucilage OR Foam Safe CA (+ Kicker to speed up the cure to maybe 1 second) for foam to foam repairs. Kicker amzn.to/2CQf24D CA Med Foam Safe amzn.to/2E2l29z Mucilage bit.ly/3fdfzQp You can get this at your local hobby shop if you want too, but when you order, you might want to try to get the prop or whatever else you want to get from HorizonHobby.com to save a buck or two on shipping. Here's their comparable products. I know it's more cash to get this now, but you will need it at one point, and I don't want you to have to wait - The excitement will be palpable!!! Thank you Brian, like I said you are a total LEGEND!! ps we chickened out of the Cub and have got an Aeroscout coming (to save prop hopefully from my 10 yr old...)
Carbon Cub S2 with a "detachable rudder" is kind of a minus 10 in my book. The broken prop...well it happens. I looked at my Cub S+ to check the rudder pin and it has a different configuration than the S2 ( a screw ). The Cubs are great fliers and I wish I had started flying mine sooner, but I had to gain some confidence with a simulator, Duet (yuck), Eaching Mini Mustang P-51D (some wind ok ), Sport Cub S (with NO wind), UMX Turbo Timber (finally could fly in more wind), UMX Aero Commander (my favorite so far), and a few a others, finally the Cub S+. I don't know how you talk your camera crew into recording hours of video, which I'm sure is more than we see with editing and such. Great videos, great flying, great content. Looking forward to the next "adventure".
Hello Brian and Mrs Megan aka camera crew, always excellent information from you guys. Love the carbon cub. I have the first version of the carbon cub. Its an everyday flyer. I enjoy flying it as much as umx timber. After your video on it i just had to have it. I even done the simple mod to keep the wheel fairings for making holes in the fuse. Then pasted it on to several members at the field and they done it to theres even works well on turbo timber also lol. Thanks for the video all of them. And special thanks to the camera crew(aka Mrs.Megan) for the dedication to the hobby. Keep flying you guys and just having fun RC'n with friends and family members. Yeeee hawww.
This transmitter setup mambo jambo is a pain.. I managed to put Safe on the same switch as motor reversing on my night timber.. Needless to say, she went down. Your videos are helping me a bunch, thank you! (still have a lot to learn though)
You'll notice that I commented 3 months ago and the plane is still not in the air. I bought the bind and fly version because I had a dx6e which I was told would fly the plane, but I couldn't get it to bind. I decided to add GPS and flaps and knew I needed to upgrade the radio so I bought an NX 8 and still couldn't get it to bind. I finally sat down with the radio manual and the plane manual and watched this your above you tube. I hope everyone at Horizon has watched this video. I'm a new guy to the sport, as if I needed to say that. I bought this plane as a trainer. Horizon sells this plane as a trainer, believe me it is not a trainer. Just watch this video and see the list of things to do do at the end of the you tube. Even though I have seen 10 year old's on you tube give instruction on how to get this plane in the air, THE CARBON CUB S2 IS NOT A TRAINER
I know that it seems this way when you're a new RC pilot. It's hard to explain just how HARD it is to fly for the first time. It's so scary, and exciting, and overwhelming, but most people just think you're blowing smoke when you try to share these aspects. If you want an even easier plane, and you can get this one as a BNF - you should watch what's about to release in about 14 minutes. You will have an easier time with it, but it's still going to be a challenge for a true new RC pilot. Any plane will be, and you will watch an experienced pilot and wonder what voodoo magic they're using to make the plane fly so easy...I can assure you, YOU TOO will get there eventually. I even had the Camera Crew fly in the video coming up next (in like 12 minutes now ;) Please don't give up, and don't be discouraged. You CAN and WILL get it...but you have to get out there and start.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks Brian, after making the changes you went through in your video I did get the plane to bind, then the smart battery told me through the transmitter that it didn't have enough charge to fly. But we are making progress. All I need do now is get the gps working an set up a field and home field. Thanks again and I'll look for your new video.
Thanks, I've got a Carbon Cub and an NX8 coming soon after messing around with the little Corsair and getting the requisite stupid crashes out of the way, hopefully, so this'll be a big help!
Good luck! You got a heck of a radio system coming - you will LOVE it. It's a steep learning curve, but we'll be here to help you step through the stages! This Carbon Cub will not be the end ;)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks! Got the RTF plane in the mail today but seeing the difference with flaps makes me think once I get the basics down I should upgrade sooner rather than later so put in that preorder. Will be cool to add one of those little helicopters to the same controller too.
And it's a total lemon! Wouldn't enter binding mode, spent about two hours working with customer service to erratic results. Ended up binding eventually as I turned it upside-down so some connection issue in there probably, but then the rudder was doing weird things. Get to send it back to them and hopefully they'll replace it rather than just patch this thing up because I sure as hell won't trust this in the air.
I took mine and got rid of gps.....ran carbon rods thru fuselage and then trimmed the foam on elevator rudder and aelerons for more travel.....installed real hinges and upped to a 40 amp esc....now running a 10x6 prop on 3s 2200 to 3200 mah and a 9x6 on 4s 2200.....whole different beast now
Nice instructional video! Just make sure you unplug the plane whenever you go into system set up, as the radio will stop transmitting. It actually tells you to do it before you hit “ok”, if that plane didn’t have any failsafe, it could’ve gone full throttle or something. Glad it didn’t happen tho 😄 love your videos, man!! Thumbs up 👍
Thanks for the heads, but but after doing it about 10,000 time or more (not an exaggeration, btw), we've never had an issue. I was real concerned about this when I was new, but them realized that almost 100% of DSMX/2/1 rx'es have 0% throttle output at d/c state...thus, unless you've got differential thrust, you'll be almost always safe ;)
Brian, my earlier generation Cub had about a 3mm screw hilding that tail together and not a pin. Also, it came with GPS, but didn't work very well so I took the module out.
I don't understand why "everyone" is saying the GPS is a bad thing!!! It is easy to setup, it gives you a virtual Fence, so that the plane will return, if you're panicking, if you loose orientation if the plane is taken by the wind. You can also the plane back to land automatically, in case of a situation of any emergency. Especially when learning to fly without any help at all... The GPS and SAFE was the ALL-IN factor to me when choosing the plane to start with, it gives you so much safety. And you can be 99% sure you won't loose or crash your plane, for a long time, if you stay in SAFE mode while learning step by step. I have not crashed my plane once, not broken any props or anything else. Although, at my Maiden Flight, I landed the plane and it rolled into a football goal and made some visual damage to the wings. And already there I learned that a small football field is too small, so now I'm flying at a very big field at a local farmers house!!! Not that I have been using any of the GPS features at all, only a few times hit the fence accidentally and the plane comes back, really awesome!!! I have been flying the Carbon Cub s2 1,3m RTF about 7 times (15 batteries), and the UMX Sport Cub S2 - 2 times (9 batteries). And not one time without SAFE mode, but I think I'm getting to the point where I can get to intermediate mode soon. I really want to add the flaps to the plane with the Spektrum DX8 Transmitter, I have spent so much time reading and watching videos, but none of it seems to be correct, the ones that work with delay, disables the SAFE mode and panic button!!! I don't want to add them if I cannot get the AIL to ELE mix to work with the 2 sec delay!? So anyone found out how to make it work? All my videos are on my channel.
I love your channel, think I have watched every video at least once LOL. Will the DX6 work the flaps on the CUB ?...I have tried and tried and can't seem to make it work. Thanks to you guys for an awesome channel !!
Thanks, and unfortunately it won't, unless you setup your Rx to run the flaps through a lower channel, but this Rx is WEIRD...without retracts, you should be able to do it....but 6 channels has you hemmed in ;( I think they have flaps on 7 or 8 on this plane - totally dumb, right?!??! If you decide to make a move, you COULD pull the Rx and put in an AR630 in there??? BUT you are gonna need an NX8 soon enough ;) NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB
First flight was going good. Then out of the blue it wings over and into the ground. Put back together to find out the speed control wasn't working and noticed the Right- Aileron was in the up position after plugging battery in and it going threw start up. Armed and R-Ail was on the throttle channel. Bring throttle up and the R-Ail goes down. So replaced FC. same! Replaced Receiver! Same. Same problem! i also just purchased a jumper tx12 pro opentx radio programable a bit ago for multiple models different protocols, and that also binds fine... is there some kind of mix that will allow or disable one aileron not both to operate when throttle is given?
I can tell you with a fair amount of certainty that you're initiating the plane upside down. This happens when SAFE is activated while inverted. New transmitter and new reciever will not fix this issue. It has to start up correctly.
great content! just got into flying and bought the carbon cub. did great for a month, but had a hard landing. now the rudder once connected does the "dance" to show its connected, but the rudder sets all the way to one side. i disconnected the rudder wires to align to neutral, but how do i tell the transmitter to reset at that neutral position? tried everything, but being so new not sure what to do.
I just manually ajusted the horns for thr flaps to runs flush with the wings using the dsx transmitter. And i still get 2 decent flap elivation settings so you dont need anothwr transmitter to fix that unless you are looking for a more extreme angle on the flaps
Postmortem 🙄🤔😁🤣😂 Love it 😁 Dang I dont think I've ever seen a prop explode at mid flight like that Must had damage before hand Id imagine Thanks for another informative vid Brian & Megan aka Camera Crew 🔥👍✌️
Thanks for these videos. For people buying the carbon cub this is a great resource. Mine arrives tomorrow. A little story. I've never flown and I foolishly bought an fms warbird as my first plane. You guessed it, I crashed it, luckily I only damaged the prop. So I put it on the shelf and ordered this plane. Do you think this is good for a total newbie?

Good vid. One thing to expand on this could be to setup buddybox (cause i wanna fly with my son) and let the camera crew try it out. The thing I´m wondering about is if all the radio work has to be done on the master or the slave or both.. Ideally I would have a DX6 or 8 and the son/camera crew whats in the box DXS :) Anyway just an idea, keep it up
I haven't ever done it, but I DO need to do it. I've got a DX9 as well, maybe I need to get that feature turned on, and show how to do it. If I can figure it out, that would make a nice video, but it'll be long and more difficult than most would expect...but you already know, from watching my videos ;)
Hey Brian. Just wanted to point out that you weren't adjusting your flaps correctly. When you were screwing the attach point up and down it's like changing holes in the control horn. You would never want one flap in one hole and the other in a different hole. They won't have the same travel distance. You should have been adjusting the length of the rod going to the servo once you had the throw matching from side to side. Another thing that had me wondering was why you didn't just move the servo arm one spline further back. You weren't coming up to level and you were over driving when fully deployed. Moving the arm would have helped both problems, plus it wouldn't have been trying to wrap around the servo when deployed so the bend in the wire wouldn't have been required. I understand that filming probably doesn't leave much time for thoughtful consideration of a problem...
yes, I tried 3 different spline locations...might have been between takes....you know how sometimes you try something, and then you realize how there's just a small issue that this causes...and then you try the other way, and you kinda land on the middle - that's what we did. On camera mods are tough. My videos are already really long, so I have to be careful not to get too carried away...so please forgive the issues ;)
OK I could not keep up with your input of the transmitter on the carbon cub flaps issue. I cannot get my flaps to work. Could you please do a video and do it slowly so I can watch you do it or maybe have your cameraman do it? She’s awesome thank you
Switch select: Trainer to AU1. Flap to GEAR. F Mode to AUX2. Go to servo setup and REVERSE the AUX1. Go to Throttle cut and set switch to MIX1. The mixing of FLAPS to ELEVATOR is still a mystery!!!
That stock prop needs upgrading. The Eflite 9x5 electric prop is a perfect fit and balanced static and dynamic. Runs SO much smoother. The yellow tips are nice too. I could not keep the wheel pants from popping off, those were tossed in the trash.
Brian, thanks for putting this clip together. I am trying to program my Dx9 to this Cub and I am still struggling even after your video. Have you considered getting the camera in closer to show the transmitter display?
Great video Brian. I’m a newer pilot and programmed this plane to my NX8. Does experience mode have AS3X enabled? After getting over 25% throttle, I can hold the plane up and verify it tries to self level on beginner and intermediary. Is there a way to have the self leveling in experienced mode without limited bank angles? Thanks
Experienced mode still has AS3X, but Limited Bank Angles should only be on Beginner Mode and Intermediate Mode...then in Experienced Mode, you can flip it all the way over.
By far the most annoying experience of my life was upgrading to a DX8e and trying to get this plane to work with it. Again, I added the flaps, so that makes it even more fun. I ended up assigning all the port assignments to their names, "Gear">"Gear", "Aux1">"Aux1", etc. Then on input config, I assigned "Gear" > "D" switch, and set "Aux 1" > "FLMode", "Aux2">"B" for flaps. That seemed fix the issue being stuck in "Beginner" and allow the plane to switch between Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert. I do not have the transmitter "Flight Modes" turned on. Only the single mode. I ended up moving "D" to "A" and reversed the switch settings, so now I only have Beginner and Expert modes like a safe select plane, like Brian has set up. When I flip the switch toward me I'm in beginner, which is a bit easier than finding that panic button. That is how I did my son's Safe Select planes a few months ago as well. When I tried the settings with "I" and "D" like this video, I was getting some strange mix to where I could changed the switch to D, and nothing would happening, but when I pressed Panic "I" it would change to advanced mode. Damn near just pulled the receiver and ordered a different one with forward programming. They should not be telling you to upgrade your receiver when adding flaps to this plane. It took hours to figure out how to make the SAFE mode work. Still no idea if the panic button works, but how I have set the plane up I don't need it to work at this point. My binding process was also a bit strange. It just sat there with a blue light flashing, but no where does it say what a flashing blue light means. I pushed "I" and the blue light went away quickly. I tried rebinding again, and the blue light eventually goes away on it's own. It has to mean something, but I don't know what. True pain, but I'm feeling good about where I finally got it to. Wish I could slow down the flaps, but at least Brian's mixing info helped.
SO I have one I have had a few months, maybe 15 flights or so. I did hit a power line and it fell to the street below from maybe 35 feet. Wasn't a tragic landing however. I replaced the cowl because it had very slight damage and I wanted it to look good. I took it out to fly today and it was acting a bit off, I assumed because it was the first time moving the battery forward a half inch, but so.... After dropping power when doing an approach, I went to apply power and nothing... I landed it and messed with it for a minute and it worked again, mid flight the motor stopped again. I immediately landed and felt the motor and it was not hot or anything. Brought it home and can replicate this issue in the garage. Works until I cut all the way back on the throttle control and then nothing for a while. Transmitter has NEVER been dropped or mishandled and batteries in both are full charge. I have confirmed all leads are solid into rcvr. Any thoughts? Much appreciated!
Tough call. Might need to swap out the ESC or the MOTOR and see if the problem persists. You can use another motor of a different size if you're careful with throttle output, but just make sure you don't load the thing too high. You can also put a SERVO on the THROTTLE port, and see if the throttle is responding too...another simple test.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you for the response. I reached out to Horizon and they are sending a new motor when back in stock. I am hoping that’s the answer!
Brian!! I so enjoy your videos! What is it that there are so many videos about great starting planes, trainer planes etc etc but every single one totally leaves out the total instructional set up with the visual part of the safe, virtual fence, panic and the all so important “circling the home point if you get disoriented? Why?
Thanks Ken! Shy do we not cover the GPS features??? Because these are terrible features that are WAY too complicated for me, let alone a beginner...not just complex in SETUP, but complex in every use...and time consuming. Bad technology, due to over-complexity, that also build some very bad habits for new pilots that don't know any better. I pretty much address this in the video, but for what it's worth, I get this quesiton about once a month. If you want GEO Fencing, I don't know how to help you, but I can tell you that it does work once you set it up properly. I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. I have two GPS modules in my possession and don't use them.
Great video as usual both of you!! I think I will buy the Aerocobra P-39....I don't think you have reviewed this & I only normally trust the models you review. Greetings from OZ
Carl Fulton I find your videos extremely informative. I'm an older guy (near 80) and new at this hobby. One question. What is the brand and model servo you installed for the flaps? The recommended servo is out of stock and will be, most likely, months before stock arrives. Thanks for your efforts! I'm a disabled vet so I often have to adapt, but your detail enables me to find alternatives. Keep up with the info you provide. Nam 64 through 66

@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks. I'm told by Horizon Support using wing type set to flaps the result is the AS3X, panic button and auto-land will not function.. Aircraft Type must stay set to 'Normal'. I crashed one cub. I used wing setup as Flaps. Any idea of the solution? My radio is DX8G2.
Hi Brian, you mentioned flap install on the carbon cub? I can’t find that section in either of the two videos in this playlist. Is there a third video not in the playlist? Or did I just miss seeing it in this video?
I have a FLAPS INSTALLATION VIDEO - ruclips.net/video/nR7CKeV8Kb4/видео.html BUT THANK YOU!!! I didn't have it on the playlist, but I added it because your comment. Thanks again!!! Now there's three videos in the playlist. Sometimes I miss this step, and other times RUclips screws it up...
Is the flap timing issue stemming from the receiver wired to 7 not 8. I started flying the carbon s2 with a stock radio. I used the wiring recommended by you to get flaps working on stock. Does my nx8 need the flap servo wired to a different channel. I want to learn to fly and operate the transmitter, before the draco takes flight. I'm very apt to getting all I can from life. Thanks for your channel.
This plane is very different than the Draco...the Rx in this Carbon Cub S2 is was more hard to setup - I know, it's counter intuitive as all get out, but true.
Do you really need a 7 channel or higher transmitter? Can I just unplug the GPS and utilize that port? Thanks for the content and the info always appreciated, especially for some one who is new to the hobby.
Hi Brian- firstly. thanks for all the efforts to help newbies to the hobby. I would be lost without these videos. I am trying to setup my second plane, CCub S2. I have setup everything according to the manual and am having same issue you had with setting up the SAFE. I don’t have flaps on mine and the wing type is set to normal. When I move switch B the light stays green for all three positions. Any ideas on how to get the Safe working? Thank you!
You have to make the SWITCH ASSIGNMENT. Yours MIGHT NEED FORWARD PROGRAMMING!!!!! Mine was from a while back, and they made some changes since then (I wonder). Sorry for the confusion, if this was what happened. If you aren't sure, go to MONITOR MODE, and make 100% sure you see change of the channel attached to the switch you assigned to "B"...then if it still doesn't change the condition of the LED on the windshield, flip other switched (Still in monitor mode, and see what DOES - then make the change in assignment)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you for such a easy response. I certainly don’t want to keep bugging you but I seem to be going around in circles before I reached out to you. When I open up the monitor and move switch B and push switch I, there is movement between 100, 0 and - 100 on gear and the aux 1 jumps from -100 to +100 which I think is what is supposed to be happening? But the light on the front of the plane never changes from green. This is the second time I have setup a new model as well. If I try to look at forward programming I receive a connection failed message. Anyway thanks again for any and all help- it just shouldn’t be this difficult to setup a new plane!
Hi Brian, to slow down the elevator/flap mix I added a switch to change the servo speed. So turn switch on - servos go slow - move flaps - turn switch off. What do you think of that?
Hello Brian. You have an exelent channel. I have a Spectrum DX6 transmitter. My question is if I remove the GPS from the Carbon Cub S + (the old one), will I have a channel available to put the flaps? If so, how do I do it? If you could make a video of this I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
You need 8 channels for everything (most don't use ALL the features), as I understand it...BUT to make the flaps work, I believe you might need access to the 7th channel. Sorry Patrick!
FYI I just spent 5 hours trying to get this to work, 1 hour chat with Tech, and 30 minute on the phone. Last chance, tried Channel 8(not 7) on the receiver and it worked! Tech said it made no sense.
Just stumbled upon your channel, I was wondering since I’m new to flying would it be better to get this plane RTF or the BNF cause I’m gonna be getting the NX8 as well to add more planes once I get better? Seems like a good deal to get everything for $299 vs $239 just for the BNF? Great channel and enjoy your videos so far
If I were you, I'd start with RTF, then use the transmitter for a simulator or a backup. NX8 is a GREAT idea, but you can buy that with the "next" plane, or possibly after you get your "beginner planes" out of the way, which can then all be bought as BNF's to hold down cost. OR Just apply the savings toward the NX8 now - this would be very smart, but steep learning curve... Do you have any video on how to bind DXS tx to Carbon Cub? I accidentally restored factory settings and I was at pain until I realized Y had to reverse channel 6 prior to bind (the rx binded but not the controller). Now it binds but the motor runs by its own at full regardless of the throttle lever stick unless I'm in beginer mode. I tried reversing channel 1 thinking it has something to do but to no avail. All the channels work but not the ESC. Or maybe it is the controller, I don't know.
I almost never say this...you might need to talk to Horizon Hobby directly for this one, since getting from where you are, to where you want to be could be dangerous. I'm NOT sure what you did. 1) Get the prop OFF the plane, until you have it figured out (If not already off) 2) WHAT did you "restore to factory settings"? - The Receiver, or the Transmitter? - HOW DID YOU DO IT... To be honest, I don't have enough information to help you. You will have to get back with me, so we can continue.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Hi, first, thanks for your response. I wanted to know how to reverse channels with the intention of using the radio in another model. For that purpose I have to turn the TX on while moving the throttle and elevator trims down, but I was wrong and confused and instead: I turned the radio on while moving the sticks outwards, that restored the factory settings. Later, I learned that I should reverse channel 6 (where the ESC is connected) in order to bind, what I did, and I could bind successfully, BUT: now in intermediate or expert mode, the motor runs at full speed regardless of throttle stick, I can stop it only using the H switch. In beginner mode it only accelerates to less than 50% (half way the throttle stick travel). That is the condition now.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Well I finally could update the software and now everything is working ok. Now I have this question: there are some models like HobbyZone Sport Cub S 2 RC Airplane BNF that require a DSMX transmitter; do you know if they can be bound to a DSX tx?
Hi Brian, Great Videos, I've bought several models based on your channel! I have just fitted Flaps to my Carbon Cub S+ (I also ended up swapping out the RX for an AR637T), what elevator correction percentages did you settle on for half and full flap? I'm sure its in the video, but I can't find it!!
First of all well done to you and your camera crew. You bring realism in your videos. Videos are great. Perhaps you can guide in me the right direction. I bought the Apprentice STS BNF 2 weeks back and then bought the SPMA3173 GPS Module. I have tried binding exactly the way you suggested for Safe Select. When I start the plane, the elevators wag up and down a few times and then level off. The ailerons then start wagging up and down one at a time and just keep going and going. The sticks do not work as the GPS module is not connecting. Tried with a DXe/DXs and the NX6 Controller. Same result.Any suggestions? Many thanks.
Thanks Julie! You're right, the plane is looking for GPS, but not finding it (I assume you're outside? If not, go out side, and make sure it's not super cloudy or weird situation like this). Since I've never setup the GPS, and don't care for it myself, I'm not going to be of great assistance in this setup. I find it to be very prohibitive, and it will SCARE you half to death the first time the plane hit's the GEO FENCE...since the plane will literally TAKE OVER for you, and you won't have a vote in what happens for a few seconds (hopefully it doesn't fly into a tree!!!!!!) You have to painstakingly follow the procedure EXACTLY or it isn't going to work. ...ALTERNATIVELY, you can disconnect the GPS, and set it up JUST like I did, then later you could see about installing the GPS. I wonder if this might help you get your plane setup and enjoy it a bit, before you add that layer of complexity. I can say with a fair amount of certainty, the GPS is a just TOO complicated for most new RC pilots, and this is the biggest reason I'm not a fan of it. This layer of complexity doesn't really translate to any other RC Skill, so it's basically a complex (and finicky), and otherwise useless technology when you're beyond this plane. IE you're gonna use it on this plane, then it's gone. Again, I know you spend a pretty good chunk of cash to get it, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest you just skip it all together, and see how things go. I REALLY think you'll thank me later, but if I'm wrong, or if you just simply disagree, I'm not the guy for this question - so sorry about that Julie!
@@BrianPhillipsRC First of all thanks so much for taking the time to respond to me in great detail. What you say makes a lot of sense. Being a total newbie to RC Planes, I thought if I lose control of the plane I might be able use the Panic Mode / GPS to get the plane back around the field. I think what you say is more sensible, the GPS may cause more grief than benefit. I use Drones for work and the return to home feature is great on drones... Many thanks Brian. Your videos are one of the best on RUclips.
Just got a dx9. Having trouble binding it to my carbon cub. The led light on the cockpit just turns blue for some reason. The dx9 will say bind completed by my plane will be unresponsive. Thoughts?
Is it level? It may be bound, but not initiated. This happens after it's been still and LEVEL for some time after powering on the Transmitter FIRST, and then plugging in the lipo into the plane.
Hey Brian, I got an NX8 to use with this model and found your radio setup (although it was not an NX8) super helpful for this first time Spektrum radio user. Question! This model, if you purchase the RTF with the cheap radio, has a flight battery charge indicator. A row of LEDs below the transmitter “Logo” bars. Is there any way to access that flight battery info from my NNX8? Is it telemetry from the receiver or is it just a timer that is faking the charge level? The receiver shipped in this model does not have a users manual....
There is! Click into the Function List, then scroll down to Telemetry...then click AUTO CONFIG, and you'll have a screen that you can scroll over to and it shows a battery icon. You can also have the transmitter make AUDIO EVENTS, like warnings about ONE CELL being below a given threshold, or the PACK VOLTAGE being below a given threshold. VERY NICE TOOL!!! Use it ;) Good luck Bendrix!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Awesome! Thanks. I’d like to be able to figure out how to use the radio and receiver on my own. Can you suggest resources I should have consulted to find the information you supplied? What’s the best way to learn how to program and use the Spektrum radio? BTW, I’ always using your links to make purchases now. Did that to pre-order a Draco!
I am thinking of buying the carbon cub s2. I have a flysky i6x controller with the fs-ia6b reciever. Because of that, I am thinking of buying the BNF version instead of the RTF and therefore save some money. Will I be able to bind the i6x controller to the plane? BTW, It is going to be my first airplane, so I am new to the hobby. Thank you!
If you have a transmitter and receiver of your choice, you can bind them together, regardless of the plane. I should be asking YOU if they will bind ;) As for with the Plane work well, I assume you will be able to make her fly, but I have no knowledge of the flysky i6x or the fs-1a6b rx....so I can't really speak to how many channels or if you'll be satisfied without AS3X (Stabilization) or SAFE (Auto leveling)...as this is one of the main draws for this plane, as a "beginner" plane. Flying PNF (or PNP) is generally harder, since you have many variables to "get right" and the learning curve is much steeper for a PNF, but if you're up to the challenge, don't let my concerns stop you. If there's a will, there's a way!
Watching this video for the 3rd time as I am hoping “santa” will bring me an NX6 or 8. I was wondering if you think it would just be easier to put an AR631 in it to simplify the set up? I pretty much never use SAFE anyway so I wouldn’t need the 3 flight modes. Thanks again for the great videos and awesome advise.
You know, you probably will have a LOT easier time, and still be cheaper too! Good point! AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c (External Antenna) AR630 bit.ly/3lh5iqD (Internal Antenna) Either would do the trick!
On one of your videos you had an issue with the Carbon Cub randomly switching to "Beginner Mode" while in flight. Do you know what caused that? I "acquired" a Carbon Cub S that I'll be using to train new RC Pilots with and I flew it today for the first time and experienced that same random issue,. In "Experienced Mode" it jumped back into "Beginner Mode" for a second and then back.
I believe now it had something to do with a higher channel interfering with the setting. I can't exactly recall. Go into MONITOR MODE and flip all the switches and see what triggers the change, then you can try to address it. since there's a light on the windscreen, you can just watch that light. KEEP IN MIND, there is a Panic mode on this, being it is FULL SAFE, not SAFE SELECT...so you might need to test that feature too.
Brian, you mentioned using a 1300mAh 3S 30C LiPo vs. the 2200mAh 3S LiPo for 'lighter' flying characteristics. Is there any potential electrical problems in dropping down in battery capacity? Or do I have this totally backwards? Making up my order to Horizon and I wanted to be sure. BTW, I really appreciate the time and detail you put into your videos, I might not be able to use the info at the moment but it will still be there when I do. Thanks again.
No, not with that size smaller pack. If you wen to extreme small, like 300-500mAh packs, you'd puff the pack before you got off the ground. You need a certain amount of capacity to help cover the higher demands for takeoff and climbing, but then you draw at a lot lower rate when you're cruising around. The other issue you CAN have with a smaller pack might be getting the CG right. I believe this plane would do fine with a 1300-1500mAh pack, in fact I think it would do BETTER, but it's going to be a trade off in length of flight. 1300mAh 3S 30C SMART PACK - bit.ly/32qzplY - BACK ORDER :( 1300mAh 3S 30C Venom Pack - bit.ly/3hu0M4V - In Stock ;)
How’s it going Brian? How did the self tapping screw (D) on the bottom of the ruder un thread I’ve never seen that before and it sucks that the ruder ripped off I’ll have to keep a eye on mine. nice informative video for beginners as well. Btw you see the new Freewing plane !!!! It’s like dam Mig-29 got it on pre-order can wait, just trying to think the best rx/gyro for it what would you recommend? AR367T maybe?
I've seen it, and it's BEAUTIFUL, but I won't end up with it. I don't have a relationship with Motion RC. I've tried, but they don't want to work with me. I can't afford to spend time on companies that don't want to work with us....I'm too busy... BUT some day, I WILL have an AL37. I want that plane BAD, and they just can't fathom sending one to m, so I won't review it for them. I've done other videos for Motion RC, but this was way back when I first got into the hobby...but they're a GREAT company, and I want them to succeed! The more companies that are making it at RC, the better! I want more people flying RC, and more weight politically...since we will have to be fighting to keep free to fly RC soon...pretty sad, and totally ridiculous!
Brian Phillips yes I totally agree with you politics have to be a part of everything and they like to destroy things you love that’s why I do not agree with the government or anything they do but I don’t want to get into that they rather argue instead of worrying about the American people, and it’s a shame you live so far away from where I live because I would probably help you out with a AL37i got three, but anyways just keep doing what you’re doing eventually motion will notice what you’re doing out there changing peoples lives in this hobby and hopefully they’ll extend an olive branch to you like I said I only watch planes you review and eventually buy them for myself and sometimes buy them before you do review them but since horizon is on your side I think they should start getting you The F 18 and then the SU- 30 I think both those plans would be good in your hanger!!!
Hi Brian , love your channel specially the trainer planes as I'm pretty new to this. I have the carbon cub s2 on a dx6 transmitter. I got the 3 safe modes working but cant seem to sort flaps. Any ideas ?
You don't have access to the flaps, with a DX6 - I know it's ridiculous, but Horizon Hobby put the flaps WAY up in the channel count. You may possibly be able to control the flaps by changing the channel they're plugged into, but the way they setup the FLIGHT CONTROLLER (something strange in a plane) is limiting. If you want to get flaps, you MIGHT consider just putting in an AR630 or AR631, and then you should be able to make that work with your DX6...or just get an NX8 and you'll be better equipped for future planes. AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c - external antenna / AR630 bit.ly/3lh5iqD - internal antenna NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB - I would get the NX8 or better, but I know this might be cost prohibitive
Just very quickly, both ailerons are plugged into separate channels , if I were to put a y harness on them would that free up a channel for flaps ? Hope you manage to respond , I know it must be difficult having thousands message you 🙏
hey Brien have you ever heard of this??... i purchased one of these and flew great, crashed, and replaced the original smart flight controller, smart esc, and original Spektrum rx... everything binds fine, but when i give it throttle one of the elevators starts in the down position and incrementally moves to flat when at full throttle, the other elevator is unresponsive.. any suggestions would be sooo much appreciated
I don't think you have the Elevator and Ailerons plugged into the right port. Please re-check this and verify. Do all the controls move in the right direction? Is the Rx mounted exactly the same position?
@@BrianPhillipsRC it was just the smart esc channel in the flight controller.. i have a smart esc , but ended up plugging in to normal esc channel 1 and works so far on ground testing... thanks for the responses so quickly

Any hints to program the Spektrum NX Series to Carbon Cub S2. I get the basics to work via Acro or Carbon Cub S+ template. But still no luck with SAFE Select or Flaps. It binds fine, basics like throttle, ailerons, ruder and elevator works fine. SAFE also works, but only in beginner mode, can't change to Intermediate or Experienced. Can't work flaps either. Any help or links are appreciated,
Gotta look to Horizon Hobby for this one. I haven't done it. Sorry about that!!! Horizon DID do some videos about the DXs...might be helpful? I saw a couple, but not 100% of them.
I crashed my carbon cub amongst other things, I had to replace the rudder servo. I used a metal servo bought off Amazon (cheap one with clear case and purple sticker). After replacing the rudder is reversed. I went into servo setup on my NX6 and changed it but it doesn't change the direction. What am I doing wrong?
Some servos are REVERSE, meaning they rotate the OTHER direction...seems like you could just flip the servo, but you actually have to "Put it on it's head" to make it travel the OTHER direction. You need to have the SAME DIRECTION OF TRAVEL from your original servo or your AS3X and SAFE won't function the correct direction. Here's my tip... 1) Try a Servo Signal Reverser (See below - choices) Servo Signal Reversers (Horizon Hobby) bit.ly/2QQBTbI Servo Signal Reversers (Amazon) amzn.to/3qgEqHF Servo Signal Reversers (Banggood) bit.ly/3tkn9yN Servo Signal Reversers bit.ly/2QQBTbI HH / amzn.to/3qgEqHF AZ / bit.ly/3tkn9yN BG OR 2) Reverse the servo you bought - open it up, desolder the leads on the motor and switch the two...then pick ANY TWO of the three wires to the FEEDBACK POTENTIOMETER, and swap them too... this will make it travel the "Other" direction, thus making a "reverse" servo. OR 3) One last option...you might be able to just swap around the ELEVATOR and RUDDER Servos so that they point the output arms to get the right action...this might be the EASIEST...but might also be a huge pain. Then just REVERSE your channel on your Transmitter and you'll be back to normal.
Yes it was only a few short years ago spectrum technologies absolutely amazing there's going to be more people in this hobby than ever now and all their planes are pretty much awesome I was binge watching all of your videos man you have a ton of airplanes and videos they're awesome to watch
It’s because of this type of content that there is no other channel like this one !
We want insightful information, that’s what we have with Brian, thanks a lot.
We appreciate that!!!
Glad you got some use from the video! Thanks for being here with us, and for sharing Bob!

Thanks Tim ;) I'm patient with machines, at least - LOL
oh man! just had my first ever flight and maiden flight with this beauty earlier today!
Dud - you're hooked now!!!!! I know your excitement, and I'm so happy that you're all in!!!!!
Thanks Brian, as a noob to the hobby the thoroughness of your tutorial videos are priceless.
Awesome! So glad we could help! We know the steep learning curve and high initial failure rate are TWO of the biggest issues to getting people to get in and STAY in...so we aim to help curb these issues.
Thanks Chad for seeing the value in the videos; we're glad to have you in our audience!
Thank you so much for spending your time on this. This really helped me solve the safe issue and understand the assignments way better
Glad it helped!!!! Thanks
Oh man, Megan you crack me up... of all the digs and innuendo that Brian gets in, yours are subtle & infrequent, but hit hard.

Went right over Brian's head as he kept talking.
I DID miss that screw - brain fart...later found it was missing ;)
It’s missing for me too. Didn’t come with it. Is it a small rod? or a screw?
You had the secret information that let me set up my new NX8+ with my carbon cub!
AWESOME! So glad we could help!
This should be in the Carbon Cub playlist ;)

Use Sharpie metallic 39109pp perfect match to silver/gray on plane used it on flap cutouts over white foam, permanent marker from office max👊
Nice - Thanks John!
We're so glad we could help you over this hurdle! So much fun to get flying, and we love being able to help! thanks for watching, and happy flying!
If I might make a suggestion. When a prop fits loos on the shaft try using heat shrink tubing ; start with the smallest that will fil over the shaft then a second , third and so on. No change in balance this way.
P.S. Great Video
Great tip! I have a bunch of it too...less messy to remove too! Great idea!!!
I did get flaps working...
I just got this Bryan and I see other cubs without these guards as they break off, I like your solution, I'll try that, thank you..
Thank you for this insightful video!, it was perfect! My carbon cub is set up perfect now!
THANKS!!! Glad we could help!
In our experience, we can't keep up with that many colors ;)
Good luck, and enjoy!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC Now that is a great idea. I have done that before when painting rooms...I will remember that
BTW, got the battery checker in the mail today and it doesn't read the individual voltages on the G2 battery that got messed up when updating the battery firmware.
Right on!!!
Thank you so much, just got a used Cub and needed help with the setting set up. Bob
Kicker amzn.to/2CQf24D
CA Med Foam Safe amzn.to/2E2l29z

You can get this at your local hobby shop if you want too, but when you order, you might want to try to get the prop or whatever else you want to get from HorizonHobby.com to save a buck or two on shipping.

Just ordered a new Elite carbon Z 150 with tri gear ! Cant wait to get it !
It is GREAT! You will LOVE IT!!!
You are the best…. Really appreciate your help with all of this stuff.
JACK - I think I must have forgotten that bolt on the tail dragger - So embarrassing!!! Sorry
@@BrianPhillipsRC Blame the camera crew for not reading the instructions. 😀
Glad you did - this plane is definitely what you said, an "everyday flier"!!!
Just got a dx9 today. Was not that easy of a setup but I managed to set it up so it was comfortable for me to use
Nice! Glad you got the DX9. The extra channel comes at quite the premium, but you'll never regret buying a nice radio!!!
Brian Phillips So far it seems nice. Working at a hobby shop has it bonuses
This transmitter setup mambo jambo is a pain.. I managed to put Safe on the same switch as motor reversing on my night timber.. Needless to say, she went down.
Your videos are helping me a bunch, thank you! (still have a lot to learn though)
OH NO!!!! I'm glad the video was of some help, but gotta watch out for that issue!!!
your videos ....if I may...is a God send
Awesome - thanks Buck!
I even had the Camera Crew fly in the video coming up next (in like 12 minutes now ;)
Please don't give up, and don't be discouraged.
Thanks again and I'll look for your new video.
by the way, Im on my wifes computer, her name is Sandy.
I took mine and got rid of gps.....ran carbon rods thru fuselage and then trimmed the foam on elevator rudder and aelerons for more travel.....installed real hinges and upped to a 40 amp esc....now running a 10x6 prop on 3s 2200 to 3200 mah and a 9x6 on 4s 2200.....whole different beast now
Not gps but flight controller and serial reciever and put in a ar630
Thx for thi video because I had to deal same trouble with NX10 pairing... a nightmare :)
Without this video...horror :D !!
Glad we could help!
I always like to watch your videos. I would like to thank to your wife who always help you .I hope someday you will let us see her in your video.
Thanks Leonce! She's been featured in many videos - Check out the Airbus A380 Build series ;)
Brian, my earlier generation Cub had about a 3mm screw hilding that tail together and not a pin. Also, it came with GPS, but didn't work very well so I took the module out.
yeah, the GPS was a huge distraction from flying, in my opinion.
Thanks for sharing the Landing gear fairing mod, just completed and so easy to do , Cheers
Glad it helped - it was super simple, and works for permanently for sure!!!
Shrink tube for wiring would be best on for prop or at least worth a try. Awesome vid, I’m hooked on your channel
Cool, thanks!
Great offering, really appreciate you sharing your expertise. Regards, Jimp
You're welcome, and thank you for stopping in!!!
I ofcourse ment the FLAP to ELEVATOR mixing
I love your channel, think I have watched every video at least once LOL. Will the DX6 work the flaps on the CUB ?...I have tried and tried and can't seem to make it work. Thanks to you guys for an awesome channel !!
Thanks, and unfortunately it won't, unless you setup your Rx to run the flaps through a lower channel, but this Rx is WEIRD...without retracts, you should be able to do it....but 6 channels has you hemmed in ;(
I think they have flaps on 7 or 8 on this plane - totally dumb, right?!??!
If you decide to make a move, you COULD pull the Rx and put in an AR630 in there??? BUT you are gonna need an NX8 soon enough ;)

@@BrianPhillipsRC Thank you for the quick reply !!
thnaks for the video, good stuff. your videos are always cozy to watch, so you got a sub.
Thanks for the sub! We appreciate you watching, and hope you will come back!!!
You could just go into servo setup and to the Speed menu and add the delay on the flap channel. That will slow the flaps down.
If you don't slow down the FLAPS and ELEVATOR together, the delay is useless. Try it some time, and let me know how you feel it works ;)
You rock! Very informative! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Brian another great video thank you...best wishes Chris
Thanks 👍
I just manually ajusted the horns for thr flaps to runs flush with the wings using the dsx transmitter. And i still get 2 decent flap elivation settings so you dont need anothwr transmitter to fix that unless you are looking for a more extreme angle on the flaps
You can do a lot of things, a lot of ways, and that's part of the beauty of this hobby! Glad you got it sorted out.
Postmortem 🙄🤔😁🤣😂 Love it 😁
Dang I dont think I've ever seen a prop explode at mid flight like that Must had damage before hand Id imagine
Thanks for another informative vid Brian & Megan aka Camera Crew 🔥👍✌️
Glad you enjoyed it ;)
Thanks for these videos.
Sure is...here's my short list for new pilots, just to prove it too you ;) (most to least expensive, but otherwise not in any order)

Hey man just liked this video and found this informative.Hope it helps
Glad it helped - Thanks!
You can't [easily] adjust that rod, since it's a modified "Y". This is the next best thing.
yes, I tried 3 different spline locations...might have been between takes....you know how sometimes you try something, and then you realize how there's just a small issue that this causes...and then you try the other way, and you kinda land on the middle - that's what we did.
She’s awesome thank you
Switch select:
Trainer to AU1.
Good points!
I have this plane put flaps in first thing. I like the way it flies.
It's a fun plane, and BEAUTIFUL!
Great video as always, thank you guys.
You bet!
I love this plane but my fav is the little umx turbo timber that thing is fun to fly.
Another great choice!
Brian, thanks for putting this clip together. I am trying to program my Dx9 to this Cub and I am still struggling even after your video. Have you considered getting the camera in closer to show the transmitter display?
This plane is setup strange...so it is a challenge to get it 100% right.
I agree, it can be super frustrating. Wish they just used an AR630 or AR631 in this plane!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I got a free replacement motor and that seems to have cleared it up. Thanks!
Thanks a lot that’s why I couldn’t bind
Glad we could help!
I will be doing it at some point. I know it's on my list right now ;)
Wonderful Brian

I find your videos extremely informative. Nam 64 through 66
Thanks Carl! Check in the Video Description. There's a couple choices in the links. When you click on the links, the website will know that you can from HERE, and they'll give us a little commission for the sales lead, if you buy one. This would help us out, and you can see if you like our recommendations. You don't pay any more, either, Carl.
Thanks for the question!
Thank YOU for your service to our country!
I have a FLAPS INSTALLATION VIDEO - ruclips.net/video/nR7CKeV8Kb4/видео.html
BUT THANK YOU!!!
Would the other channel work the flaps? I used the channel from your other video, the one about flaps on the stock transmitter.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Also I do have a throttle cut working and I goose the throttle to engage the SAFE mode but green light just stays green.
Thank you for the help
You're welcome Craig!
Thank you for an informative video!
You're welcome! Glad you stopped in!!!
Hi Brian, to slow down the elevator/flap mix I added a switch to change the servo speed. So turn switch on - servos go slow - move flaps - turn switch off.
What do you think of that?
I think it's a great idea, but your ELEVATOR correction will be at a different rate..........I think??? Now you've got me thinking ;)
Thank you.
I can't say for certain, but I believe you MAY be able to use that channel for flaps....
Brian, I try to program the flaps in diferents ways with my Spectrum DX6 transmitter but no results. If you find a way please let me know.
Thanks!!
Can I use flaps with a DX6e with the BNF version. I’m having no luck at all. I think I need a 7 channel radio.
I hate when that happens!!! Glad you got it worked out!
OR
Just apply the savings toward the NX8 now - this would be very smart, but steep learning curve... NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB

@@BrianPhillipsRC I really appreciate the input. You got a sub outta me and I’ll be tuning in to a lot more videos.
1) Get the prop OFF the plane, until you have it figured out (If not already off)
2) WHAT did you "restore to factory settings"? - The Receiver, or the Transmitter? - HOW DID YOU DO IT...
To be honest, I don't have enough information to help you. You will have to get back with me, so we can continue.
@@BrianPhillipsRC Hi, first, thanks for your response. I wanted to know how to reverse channels with the intention of using the radio in another model. For that purpose I have to turn the TX on while moving the throttle and elevator trims down, but I was wrong and confused and instead:
I turned the radio on while moving the sticks outwards, that restored the factory settings. Later, I learned that I should reverse channel 6 (where the ESC is connected) in order to bind, what I did, and I could bind successfully, BUT:
now in intermediate or expert mode, the motor runs at full speed regardless of throttle stick, I can stop it only using the H switch.
Love you two
Soooo[ informative 👌
Thanks John!
I can't remember, sorry Kevin. Watch the part where we're flying it, and you can see... we adjust a lot of that stuff "on the fly"
@@BrianPhillipsRC Looks like I'll just do the same then! Not flown with flaps before, so I'll just have to stay 3-4 mistake high!
I find it to be very prohibitive, and it will SCARE you half to death the first time the plane hit's the GEO FENCE...since the plane will literally TAKE OVER for you, and you won't have a vote in what happens for a few seconds (hopefully it doesn't fly into a tree!!!!!!)
You have to painstakingly follow the procedure EXACTLY or it isn't going to work.
...ALTERNATIVELY, you can disconnect the GPS, and set it up JUST like I did, then later you could see about installing the GPS.
The rolling could be caused by the torque of the motor transferred the the aircraft more because of the higher pitch of the prop
yes
Just got a dx9. Having trouble binding it to my carbon cub. The led light on the cockpit just turns blue for some reason. The dx9 will say bind completed by my plane will be unresponsive. Thoughts?
Is it level? It may be bound, but not initiated. This happens after it's been still and LEVEL for some time after powering on the Transmitter FIRST, and then plugging in the lipo into the plane.
@@BrianPhillipsRC ill try that :)
@@jordanmoore8586 did you get it to work?
@@jensappel2302 no :(
Hey Brian, I got an NX8 to use with this model and found your radio setup (although it was not an NX8) super helpful for this first time Spektrum radio user.
Use it ;)
Good luck Bendrix!
I should be asking YOU if they will bind ;)
As for with the Plane work well, I assume you will be able to make her fly, but I have no knowledge of the flysky i6x or the fs-1a6b rx....so I can't really speak to how many channels or if you'll be satisfied without AS3X (Stabilization) or SAFE (Auto leveling)...as this is one of the main draws for this plane, as a "beginner" plane.
Good point!
AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c (External Antenna)
AR630 bit.ly/3lh5iqD (Internal Antenna)
Either would do the trick!
@@BrianPhillipsRC I'll try that. When it was on the bench, I saw it do it all by itself without me even touching the Tx. Gremlins!

Broke by rudder the same way because I forgot to put a screw where you put the paper clip. It keeps weight of the hinge.
For sure! I still can't believe I forgot it!!!
@@BrianPhillipsRC felt the same.
AR631 bit.ly/3pYNC3c - external antenna / AR630 bit.ly/3lh5iqD - internal antenna
NX bit.ly/3mbVuNB - I would get the NX8 or better, but I know this might be cost prohibitive

The AUX1 must be REVERSED
1) Try a Servo Signal Reverser (See below - choices)
Servo Signal Reversers (Horizon Hobby) bit.ly/2QQBTbI
Servo Signal Reversers (Amazon) amzn.to/3qgEqHF
Servo Signal Reversers (Banggood) bit.ly/3tkn9yN
Servo Signal Reversers bit.ly/2QQBTbI HH / amzn.to/3qgEqHF AZ / bit.ly/3tkn9yN BG
OR
2) Reverse the servo you bought - open it up, desolder the leads on the motor and switch the two...then pick ANY TWO of the three wires to the FEEDBACK POTENTIOMETER, and swap them too... this will make it travel the "Other" direction, thus making a "reverse" servo.
OR
3) One last option...you might be able to just swap around the ELEVATOR and RUDDER Servos so that they point the output arms to get the right action...this might be the EASIEST...but might also be a huge pain.
Then just REVERSE your channel on your Transmitter and you'll be back to normal.
