    Hi Justin, I probably don't have too mention this for the simple reason being, you probably already know that the proper and more efficient tool for that job is a arc gouger. It would have taken you,tops two minutes, the thing is with the air arc you can take just the weld off and not touch a grinder, believe me, I've got forty odd years in as a welder and it would make your life so much easier. Regards OAG !

    “SLOW DOWN” when using that plasma torch, it’s just like using oxy acetylene. Go slow and it will cut that Hard Ox just like butter. Lol.

    you should have plasma gouged that weld instead of cutting right through that would have preserved the gap

    The other way to cut that weld out would be using a air arc. It works really good on jobs like that.

    Good job for sticking with it. Since you have more to do you may want to think about a reverse engineering approach Along with the prints I think if you were to remove the corner skin so you could get to the inside welds,then align the latch weld the inside latch and work your way out doing the corner"skin" last It is a tricky design because it looks like the corner holds it together Gives you an idea how hard the gate was slammed Make sure they are not getting pushed on the gate in the pit

    Get some plasma gouging consumables (under $100) for your plasma and you can surgically remove the welds next time. If done with some patience, you wouldn't touch any metal on the box and have minimal grinding/prep.

      Ryan Whalen I have run the same radios in co. pick up’s. Check your co ax and make sure the ground for the radio goes to the tk chassis as best you can.

    • @ryanwhalen3378
      @ryanwhalen3378 5 лет назад

      scott Baker I just ran a new coax last Sunday. The antenna mount on a 567 Pete is in front of the windshield at the top of the hood on drivers side. So needles to say the antenna mount is very low but there is no where else to relocate it. The bracket that the antenna grounds to is welded to the frame of the truck so it’s definitely a good ground. But I was wondering if running a separate external ground back to the antenna would that help too?

    • @scottbaker1018
      @scottbaker1018 5 лет назад

      Ryan Whalen Not sure. When I had my rigs years back ,I had a 10ft stainless whip mounted to the front bumper that was squared on the end on a c-500 kw. I also had another copper strap going to the tk frame. Running a 500 watt box my swr was under 2.0 with the kicker on.. But as far as the striker goes I have run them in pu tks with a wilson 1000 mag mount with no linears and stock co ax length with 1/1 swr. You may need to trim your antenna
