    In April 2013 at mile 23 my London marathon dream came to an end. My legs paralysed by cramp would take me no further. In my despair a lady a fellow runner a total stranger gave up her marathon took me by the hand and walked me to the finish line. I learned more about me about running and about the human spirit than I ever have in any successful race since. That lady in your race gave you her water. If you’d finished the race you would of missed that moment.
    Onward and upward Aubrey.

      Genuinely speaking, this is one of the best experiences I’ve had in running. It’s done much more for me than I would have asked for. As I said, it would have been a better story for the organisers but in summary… this was a major lesson!

    You’ll learn a lot from this experience. Running after illness and in a heatwave can be humbling, but you’re right when talk about having confidence in your underlying fitness and training. Some days you are the hammer, other days you are the nail - it was a “nail” day but you will bounce back in no time.

    • @AubreyRunning
      @AubreyRunning  Год назад

      The best analogy I’ve ever heard in terms of running performance. I love this. It’s only right that I was a nail for once considering how many times I’ve been the hammer

    Had a similar experience with my 10K this Sunday my main target was to finish.
    Unfortunately I tripped and twisted my ankle at the 2Km mark. Did a quick check and realised I couldn’t run. So I decided to walk(The most stupid decision). I did walk to the finish but by the time I reached home my ankle became the size of a football.
    Currently icing my ankle while I put this comment down.
    Can’t wait to be back at running.
    You’re an inspiration.
    Looking at someone who had a similar experience gives me the encouragement to get back out there.
    Thanks!

      Truthfully there are so many of us that have these experiences. It’s just not any talk about it or feel like they can. I just thought I would share my “losses” but emphasise what I took from it.
      I learned so much and also fired me up for the next time.
      I wish you a quick recovery and take as much time as you need. How are you feeling?

    I started running in 2022. I like bigger events, I've done lots of them. I did a half marathon in June at Dorney Lake (no shade!) where the temperature was 28 degrees from the start. It's a 4 lap course and I ran past my parked car 4 times! Each time I badly wanted to just get in and drive home. I had left a bag for safekeeping and this is the only thing that kept me going. Wanted to improve on a 1:57 pb but in the end was happy to even finish in 2:11. Great content, keep them coming!!

    From another ‘big guy runner’ I know how the heat can kill a run dead. Here’s the thing though - you can’t mess around with the heat. If the body says stop in the heat you gotta stop. The alternative is possibly passing out and no one wants that. Keep going. Very motivational.

    • @AubreyRunning

    Your main goal was sub-48. Did you have a back-up goal? Maybe that could have changed and you were able to finish. Sometimes things don’t work out as planned. Sometimes our goal is so big that we need to assess if we can actually do it based on the current situation we have. I ran my second 10k and set a PB under 1 hour beating my first 10k by 1 minute. Sometimes we just have to beat our previous race by seconds and continuously improve not necessary huge jumps in time. Most importantly take care of your health. Better to DNF than collapse on the race course. Best of wishes to your future races! You’ll crush it next time!

    I already don't have the expectation to do a PB in a race. Expecting this implies that you are in a top shape on race day and conditions are perfect. I attended two 10K's this year. 1st one I started to feel weird after the half. Felt like i could only use like 80% of my energy. In the evening i was vomiting and ended up with a fever. It was some kind of a flu.
    The next one i was pretty fit, but ended up in the end of the pack and due to the narrow streets i spent the 1st 3k trying to overtake slower runners. I was really pissed this time.
    In the end this what motivates me...i fail and fail, but try again and in the end i succeed. Btw. i'm currently on 48:20 10K PB and also aiming for sub 48 :)

    • @AubreyRunning
      @AubreyRunning  Год назад

      I am learning to simply appreciate the ordinary art runs more. The workouts we complete, the long runs, the zone 2 runs and of in the end these lead to a PB, I’ll take it.
      Simply because you can’t put a sense of accomplishment on 1 day with factors outside of your control.
