    Thanks for uploading. First of all can I say massive congratulations on a gutsy, brilliant performance.
    We can do all the training but on race day there's sadly no 2nd chances.
    Injury, illness can happen. Sometimes the body doesn’t want to play ball.
    Your time of 3:15 was exceptional in the circumstances so be proud.
    Despite your troubles, it wasn't a complete disaster so let's look at the positives.
    1- You finished in a brilliant time.
    2- The fall could've been nasty. 3 years ago I suffered a bad fall in final mile of a marathon, suffered a head injury and was unable to finish. Still have scar on my forehead as a permanent reminder.
    3- Your camera also survived the fall.
    4- Despite your troubles you still took time to help the guy who cramped up. Big respect for that.
    That sub 3 will happen. It's not a case of if, but when.
    Have you considered looking for another marathon whilst you still have the fitness? Think it’s something to consider.

      Thank you so much for comments. It did really suck at the time and I was really disappointed how it all went down during the taper week and race week. But yes like you said many positives, especially as you have mentioned I could have been injured much worse like yourself, that sounds terrifying. I definitely did start looking for marathons quickly and found one in Porto for the 6th Nov but I believe its far too early as I'm still not fully better yet. I'm going to just do some local close by races like a half marathon and 10km to see the year out. I will pick the Sub 3 journey up next year and look to do maybe Manchester or Paris which both take place in April.

      @@TheWu Sounds like a good plan. All the best with your quest for sub 3.
      Sure it will happen.

    Awww loved the video despite it not going your way, I was 2 hours behind you as the 5:15 pacer! Loved that you commented on the apples too! I really wanted one! 🍏🍎 Pleased you were okay after your fall, hard day at the office 😩 onwards and upwards! 😊

    • @TheWu
      @TheWu  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Nicola wasn't the run I wanted but made decent RUclips footage at least 🤣 I watched your pacer video, looked like you had a blast! I always wondered how to be a pacer and if I could do it. Must be a lot of pressure not to mess up and pace accordingly over hills and things. Must say hi if we ever cross events again!

    • @NicolaRuns
      @NicolaRuns 2 года назад +1

      @@TheWu yes falls are always good for RUclips! 🤣 We do a few runs down your way so you could always put your name down for Northern Pacing Volunteers 😃 we're always after marathon pacers 😊 it's not huge pressure (you just have to remind yourself that all humans make mistakes or can get injured or fall over or cramp up etc) even pacers can have bad days so it's not so bad. It's more the concentration but I love that, it gives you something to do so it keeps me amused 😃

  • @cin74au

    When I ran Yorkshire, even the 3 hour pacer didn't make it home in under 3 hours. It's a tough course to be going for a time goal!
    Fantastic effort, and great video production too. Onwards and upwards!

    I did that race a few years ago my only marathon much slower than you I might add! Marathons are so hard but add a full on cold on top and it becomes a whole new ball game.Without the cold I bet you would have smashed 3.Great determination well done!

    • @TheWu
      @TheWu  2 года назад +1

      Absolutely, I think I could get through a half marathon with a cold (although not advised!) but the marathon really starts to kick you down post 30km

    Kudos for making it to the finish line. Not a terrible disaster in our eyes. You were obviously carrying a virus so the fact you can get to 30k in Sub 3 pace clearly indicates it's on the cards when you're fresh. As you say, got to arrive at the marathon with your A game.
    Looks like a good event. One we might consider in the future. Would you recommend?

    • @TheWu
      @TheWu  2 года назад +1

      It's a good event and everything is well organised but there is a stretch that goes on for quite long (a good few km I think) which is very open and you can get a lot of head wind.

    • @TheWu
      @TheWu  Месяц назад

      Ah the 30km mark in York is hard. It’s in the open air out and back part that is mentally quite tough as it’s boring but the wind can pick up too and it’s a gentle incline which lasts a while!

    • @Ryan_RyRy_Ryan
      @Ryan_RyRy_Ryan Месяц назад

      @ mate it’s all the above but it’s also those out and backs. Having to turn on your self and try keep momentum is a killer.

    Not managing to complete the marathon in under 3 hours is not a disaster, dont be so hard on yourself. The fact you finished it whilst unwell is an achievement in itself. Try not to get too hung up on times, there is more to life.

    • @TheWu
      @TheWu  2 года назад +3

      Absolutely, most of this is when it's all fresh and raw, I try to vlog to show the reality of the day, i.e even the disgusting things like snotting on my vest haha. So really looking back after the dust has settled I absolutely agree with you, I will continue the sub 3 journey next year and remind myself to enjoy the process. I also have my first child due New Years Eve, so yes there is definitely more to life. Thanks for the comment and support of the channel.
