Do a Casey Neistat, pick a race, go again in a month or so, tell no one, get someone to pace you, and only upload after you've done it. Feel like the pressure of you recording while you're racing is an additional stressor for that high heart rate. Let the race be just for you
Haha I would love to find another marathon ! Can’t think of any soon apart from the ones around the corner , Newport , Boston Lincs etc but they are way too close. I would always film but it’s definitely something I’d like to see for myself how I would perform for sure.
I had the same high HR issues when I raced Berlin last year for a BQ. It's so frustrating knowing after the first 5K that your goal is not going to happen today and you have to tough it out for 37K for 2nd prize. I fully understand that anxiety and pressure caused by chasing a big goal - all the hours and sacrifices of training culminating in one day where so much has to align perfectly to pull it off. It's a lot to deal with. Congrats for taking the decision not to DNF and to finish with a smile. You'll get that sub-3, no question.
Thanks 🙏🏽, yea I mean I knew the wrist based heart rate isn’t always accurate and in this case it was likely locked high but it didn’t matter as perceived effort was hard so knew I was working in overdrive from the start line due to anxiety and nervous tension. 🙁 Something I have to work on for sure.
Great run and very positive attitude. Every confidence that you’ll break 3:00, just a matter of time. Great to see the camaraderie within the group towards the end of the video. I think he’ll be back for his sub 4:00….
Great to meet you on Sunday and good to see you finish with a smile on your face. At the end of the day you put the training in, got faster and PB'd in the half on the way, that will carry forward into all your future races.
Congrats!! Glad you finished it instead of DNFing, I'm sure that having a positive finish experience will have a good effect on your next try. Maybe try disabling hearth rate on your watch, it sounds like seeing a high HR at the first part made you stress out quite a bit, maybe causing it to stay high. One of the best marathons I had was when my watch died half way and I ran the second part faster and enjoyed it more.
Yea probably did a bit but I already knew my perceived effort was way too hard anyway no matter what the number was. It didn’t take me long at all to realise the watch data was not accurate as it was likely locked high.
I am really impressed with your time! Such high HR and just a drop of a little over a minute in the second half. Happy for you that you pushed through, not DNF'ing and finishing with a smile. You did amazing!
Thanks ,the HR data wasn’t that accurate with the wrist based sensor but it didn’t matter what number it showed all I know it was too high. So positive is I felt good finishing the race.
Amazing you still managed to get 3:01 and you looked so strong and happy at the end, just shows you're so close to getting that sub 3 just wasn't the day for it, still smashed it though congratulations!! I did my first marathon this year at Manchester and your videos have been keeping me going and I loved every bit of it so big thank you! Keep it up, that sub 3 is around the corner 💪🏻
Great vid as always Willand great job pushing through to finish with a smile. Honestly, you need to ditch the HR metric as it takes over your mind! I've found HR is always higher when I'm tapered. When I did Manchester last year I obsessed over my HR, it stressed me out and I threw in the towel at mile 16, finishing in 3:01 even though I was the fittest I've ever been and should have ran sub 3 easily. I Ran Valencia in December off less mileage, ditched the HR monitor and turned the HR face off my watch. I ran way more relaxed and ended up running 2:55 feeling comfortable the whole way.
Yea the data on the day was well off and I didn’t pay much at attention to it once I realised it was locked high early on. I went to perceive effort so early as I couldn’t do 1km from the start without it feeling hard. The Hr and data was irrelevant the fact my heart was pounding and stomach in knots as I was warming up just made my body into overdrive from the very beginning. I’ll be in Valencia this year so I hope I get a run like you did! Well done 👍🏽
I was cheering everyone on from the 11 mile and 22 mile mark. Well done!! you did amazing!!!! Hoping to run it next year, Hope you manage to get the sub 3 hour your chasing!!
Great video man, I actually finished just behind you with a 3:01:20, can see me coming in at the end after you. Was hoping for a sub 3 too but fell off at the end. Great going after thinking you would dnf. I got a few tips after that Abingdon marathon in October is a good flat course so I’m going first that next. I’m sure you’ll smash sub 3 on the next one my man
Been looking forward to this video for ages. Although I can't wait to see you break sub-3, I don't want the journey to end. Great to see you finish with a smile on your face & finishing strong.
Mate, watching that had me on a rollercoaster of emotions. Laughing my head off at "Can he just go in the boot?" straight into welling up at the end. Such a great video man. You finished which is the most important thing and you finished strong and with a smile which makes it even more amazing. So good to see you at the finish. As I've said before, I don't know anyone who deserves a sub 3 more than you. It will come and I can't wait to watch you do it.
Like you said to Dawn, this video really resonated with me. I too pulled the plug for different reasons and with a different outcome. A beautifuly made Vlog with a bit of everything. We were laughing out loud when your friend couldn't get in the car. Then the emotion of not wanting to feel a failure for the 3rd year in a row. Good luck with forthcoming plans.
Great to meet you mate. To abort the sub3 and finish with a smile and still come in at 3:01:15 shows how close you are! Once you have a good day out with no hiccups I'm sure you'll break it comfortably!
I wasn’t worried about the data so much , I knew the watch was showing a lot higher than normal and was most likely locked high. It was probably more likely to be around (175) if the watch wasn’t playing up. But my perceived effort in the warm up and at the start line I knew my body was already working in overtime at the very start so just couldn’t settle.
Definitely something that I need to work on. I think anxiety building to the marathon start is what eats at me and also the pressure of suffering and failure in the late stage which has happened each time for me. Like half marathons I’m completely fine.
@@TheWu Manchester last week was my first marathon, I really just told myself to just go out and enjoy it! Screw the result, screw the pressure! Enjoy yourself!
Well done you! That’s what I told myself early on too that’s why I got the late stage fine and crossed the line happy. Also being so close to the goal whilst feeling good is a positive to take away.
Fantastic run mate. Sometimes the body doesn't cooperate and its a battle all the way. You definitely have the legs for it, as a wise man (probably) once said "Do not pray for an easy race, pray for the strength to endure a difficult one," and you certainly did that. Should be proud!
Yea definitely a confusing one for me, just couldn’t make the pace feel comfortable right at the start. My body was working so hard in the warm up I knew it could take a little to settle once we started but it just didn’t.
I got a 3.53 ... PB of course ... and yeah me too said before the start "never again" only to be planning the next one within 24 hours of finish .... You did great to the finish ... am sure you will come back again to conquer this ...
Was so good to finally get to say hello to you in person! To start with a 200BPM and still finish with a 3:01:15 is incredible man! Keep everything up and don't stop believing it's possible!
Nice to bump into you on the day. Yea I think the wrist base heart rates were likely showing incorrect and locked high. Either way it didn’t matter about the data I just knew it was high whatever the real number was and my perceived effort was way to hard for a sub 3 pace. Looking forward to your race day vlog.
Excellent effort!! I bailed out with a DNF at Nagano, Japan two months ago trying to get a sub 3 with similar heart rates in the first 20km. Massive respect with getting it done, best of luck!!
Well done Will. I believe it takes a greater determination to finish when things aren’t going to plan. I did exactly the same after picking up a niggle two weeks out, I ran as far as I could and then enjoyed the end without giving up and making my friends and family proud. It’s great to see that you didn’t chuck the towel in and that will inspire. Also, thanks for taking the time to chat with me in the bag drop 😁 Onto the next 💪🏻
Great video. I ran Manchester this year. You captured it perfectly. Pro tip get an arm HRM. Much more accurate than a watch. Much more comfortable than a chest strap.
Thanks, yea the wrist based ones are not that good, but it didn’t matter too much on the day. Perceived effort was hard so didn’t really matter what number it would have shown. 🥲
Great to see you Will at finish line! Was shocked to catch up with you during race as I was banking on you going under 3. You can do it! BTW, get a chest HRM 👍🏼
Yea you too and well done. I don’t use HR enough to warrant getting a chest strap tbh. I only use it as a guide and instantly cross reference to perceived effort which on the day was the issue from the warm up to the start line my body just didn’t calm down. So even though the numbers were far too high and incorrect as it’s wrist based, no matter the data , sub 3 pace felt like half marathon pace.
Thanks 🙏🏽, I think the real HR would have been probably around 175bpm. The watch was just generally locked high but didn’t really matter even if it showed the correct readings the fact is it’s still too high to start a marathon and it didn’t settle as I went most importantly via perceived effort which I mentioned a couple of times on the video.
Well done for finishing. The way you were talking, I thought you were gonna be miles off sub 3. I met you at Dewsbury 10k and I think you just missed your goal there. I wonder if you're just talking yourself out of achieving these goals? A bit of belief I reckon you can find a minute and a half over 42km. I get what people are saying about wrist hr, but if you use it all the time, it'll be consistent to what you normally see. I enjoyed the video.
Hi Robert 👋🏼, thanks for the comment. The problem was just how hard sub 3 pace felt from the start line. I go by perceived effort and it just didn’t seem possible feeling like that so early on. If you run 1:30 for the first half and it feels way too hard it’s pretty much going to be impossible to do well in the 2nd half as the late stage would just crash me.
I dos 4:39 thanks to a knee injury flaring up at mile 19. Wanted a sub 4. You said sub 3 is off the cards a while back in the race and you got 3.01. You will east smash sub 3 soon. Well done.
Ah sorry about the knee. I hope it has been ok since. Well done for getting to the end. Yes the only option was to ease off and just run to effort and not a goal time otherwise i would have been in a bad state in the late stage which is definitely not what I wanted this time around.
Oh so good to see you have humor my friend - saw Nick Bester cyckle have a triathlon bben cykling from London to Manchester hahaha.... poor Nick. Hey what a race Wu.3.01 is so fine there is room for being better Wu I think you did great and dont give up. Inga DK .
congrats for your strong marathon finish under that circumstances, will! did you encounter also any issues with your feet pain? regarding the high HR: is it on clock wrist or is it a real HR strap? i also suffer of high HR from anxious using a HR strap. lately observed few minutes before my last HM race 130/190. normaly this is my easy pace HR :-) got already the advice that breathing exercise could help to bring it down a bit. but did not get the chance to test it out yet, but will do next time for sure :-)
Hi, yea it’s a wrist based so I know it’s not the best or that accurate but it didn’t matter what number was shown really as I knew by perceived effort it would be too high. I will work on the anxiety and have been recommended to take some natural supplements for it.
The way to break 3h comfortably is to run the first half in 1.25-1.26 to allow for a slight fade in the second half. You need to be able to run a half in 1.23-1.24 to manage a 3h marathon comfortably.
Hi, thanks for the comment. I don’t think you necessarily need to run 1:26 for the first half. Many people who break sub 3 can run 1:27-1:29 for the first half. I hope I would run the first in 1:28 myself. 4 weeks before this marathon I ran 1:22 in a half marathon race which felt quite comfortable throughout, so I was really surprised when the race started my slower marathon pace felt harder. 🤷🏽♂️😅
@@TheWuTry my strategy next time. Another thing worth an attempt is a 10 mile slow run the day before the marathon. This was my strategy the one and only time I broke three back in 2016.
You were just ahead of a friend of ours that we were spectating so we caught you 4 times! You looked strong every time despite how you might have been feeling 💪🏻💪🏻
YES BRUCE LEE! There's so much to be said for a strong finish and "enjoying" those last few miles and a smile and laugh on your face, minus the delerium and complete depletion and fatigue. I ran 3.01 at Valencia and negative split but felt AMAZING despite not going under 3hrs. You might as well skip the 3.00 and just train for Sub 2.55 for GFA now 😜 Bravo The Wu!!!
Yea you are so right. It’s a massive positive to feel amazing at the late stage and finish of a marathon, especially if we run so close to our goal too! I’ll be running Valencia this year I can’t wait it looks good.
Outstanding achievement Will, sorry I didn't see more of you after mile 4. The HR thing is interesting, I sometimes go out on a trainng run and I'm in 180s before I know it, but then I'll do a hard interval session on a different day, and I'm not breaking out of Z2. Like you said, you were anxious before the start. 3:01 though after all the early stage doubts, almost better than a sub-3...
You will go again and do it sometime soon Will, awesome time considering 👍 I totally blew up and let things go in Paris. I now feel a bit lost with no quick course Marathons to train for now for a good while, but I am determined to try and come back stronger again before settling into some middle aged pacing duties or fun running. Might have to be Winter 2025 after Boston next year now though 😐 Donato was an absolute star though and makes me feel like I am a young man with plenty of years to try and push towards that Sub 3. I feel miles away from it right now though.
Haha yes I hope I’m that fit when I’m Donato’s age. You could always try york marathon it’s a little more elevation than Manchester but I’m sure easier than Paris. Paris has a few tough parts with the tunnels and inclines and also cobbled road surfaces if I’m right?
@@TheWu Yeah Paris was more up and down and the surface not as great as I remember from when I previously ran it in 2016 (not sure if a few miles of that were due to the course changes), although the course definitely was not to blame for my poor performance. Yorkshire was a possible autumn race for me, I had also considered running Málaga Marathon on December 15th but might not run another one until Boston 2025 now.
Sorry you didn't get it in the end Will but hopefully next time. Great video as always. How did you find the carb loading overall? Would you do it again?
Hi , yes the carb load and fuelling was great. It was definitely one of the reasons I was feeling quite good in the late stages and legs felt super good crossing the line. Something I’ve never experienced before in past marathons.
Fantastic running Will. I was so glad to see the text on the screen saying you are continuing with a smile on your face. Just a thought here: would you be suffering from pre run anxiety Will? I reckon physically you are all over Sub 3- but it could be something on the mental side that’s gets the HR up and scuppers you? Just a thought. Well done man.
Thanks 🙏🏽, yep pre run anxiety was definitely an issue. In fact it’s not pre run anxiety, it’s just pre marathon anxiety as it’s only in marathons. I can be completely fine for half marathons.
Great job Will, been waiting for this vlog 😃 love the video and top spirit ! Tried to find you and some others at the end but couldn't stay too long as I didn't want to leave the wife waiting. Wish my bad day had been just minute of target too 😂 Hope to catch up one day soon !
@@TheWu no mate I've given up on the marathon. The last 2 years I've tried to train for it but the training sucks every bit of enjoyment out of running for me, running is my love it's the only time i get to myself for myself away from work coaching the kids and being a dad when I start the marathon training the long runs and making time for them really just stresses me out, so I've decided to concentrate on bringing my half marathon time down. I would love a 1.30 half so that the goal from now.
Yea do what’s best for you. The training can be really hard to manage and if it’s starting to be a negative experience it’s not the right way. I’m gonna be doing a few half’s too. Thinking Manchester and derby.
Well done buddy but gutted for you, we believe you will get it soon. I ran Manchester on Sunday as my first full marathon. Done loads of half's finial completed a full. I had no pressure, just wanted to complete and run it all, everything went to plan and it was amazing, loved every second. My legs have dubiously come back to life. My final time was 4hr 27 min. I think your mate should definitely do another,.... I am 😂😂😂
Firstly, well done mate. Interested to know how you felt the carb loading impacted you this time around? I ran Manchester last year for my first marathon and ate similarly to how you've said in previous videos you're attempting this (10g carb per kg bw) and I felt so bloated and full on the day. Stuck with what I did for weekly long runs this time around and felt so much better.
Thanks 🙏🏽 I didn’t feel bloated I wasn’t eating huge amounts it was just mainly light things. It got a bit tedious eating the same stuff for a couple days but in the end it was a massive help for the late stages of the marathon. It’s something I will be doing from now on for sure. Legs were super fresh and fuelling on the day too felt good.
Such a shame it went south right from the start. I get a high, anxious heart rate in races too. Might have to try the camomile tea! The bit with Neil at the end had me in stitches 😂 He's felt the distance! Why is everyone else fine? Can he just go in the boot? 😂 Brilliant.
To have a heartrate that high and still be able to finish comfortably and so close to your target makes me wonder if your recording device is accurate? Running 3 hours with an average heartrate of 185 is bizarre. But if you did, kudos to you! You'll get it some day.
The wrist based heart rates can be locked high and inaccurate. It’s happened a few times during training where I normally take it off for a bit and it resets. It’s impossible to run a marathon with those numbers being so close to my max Hr so it was definitely incorrect showing too high. I knew this was just a guide and I went by perceived effort. The importance of the data wasn’t relevant the effort was too much for sub 3 pace from the start line.
Yea the heart rate isn’t really correct as it’s wrist base but I knew it would be too high regardless of what number was showing. I went by perceived effort as sub 3 pace was way too hard from the start line.
You need to throw that heart monitor in the bin. It ruled your marathon and wrecked you chances of your best marathon. You know this course well, now. Ditch the HR monitoring and follow a pace plan, next time!!
Hi, remember the video is a few seconds of clips representing a 3 hour run. The Hr was irrelevant because I went by perceived effort super early as it was clear the HR didn’t move much and was stuck high. The HR will have shown incorrect data for sure but even if it was correct and not locked high it still didn’t change how I felt and sub 3 pace was too hard from the start line. I knew my heart was working too hard from the warm up! I don’t run to HR if I did I would have completely stopped and walked as there’s no physical way it’s possible to run a marathon 10 beats from max HR , I would be crawling by the late stages 😅
Will, do you reckon your hr strap was faulty maybe? Also, missing sub 3 by 75 seconds is nothing at all - especially given how you felt in that first half. If you can find a way of overcoming those nerves I think you’ll smash it 👍👍
Thanks 🙏🏽 it wasn’t faulty just sometimes wrist base can spike high and needs to be reset by taking off and on again. I think the real HR would have been probably around 175bpm. The watch was just generally locked high but didn’t really matter even if it showed the correct readings the fact is it’s still too high to start a marathon and it didn’t settle as I went most importantly via perceived effort which I mentioned a couple of times on the video. I’ll keep going and get there in the end!
The extra 400m doesn't help. Do you know if that is a GPS thing or just not quite hitting a perfect line for such a long distance? Brilliant effort though, I'm sure you'll get the sub 3 soon!
The course is measured accurately. I think each time I’ve ran Manchester it’s always been 42.6km which is the extra from not taking the best route line. I think nearly everyone ran a further distance.
Thanks haha I wasn’t don’t worry, remember you see about 3 clips lasting a few seconds representing a 3 hour run. I already knew the data was was locking high early on and whatever the number was I knew it was too high regardless of the number showing (in reality I bet it was more like 175bpm). The perceived effort was the main issue sub 3 pace seemed harder than half marathon pb pace!
To be honest the vlog and camera isn’t the issue. The issue is the marathon itself. I’ve always had a bad time in the late stage and it’s always what I worry about when racing a marathon. I can run half marathon’s and perform well with no issues no pressure and no anxiety. Just the marathon I get really anxious. Sub 3 is just a journey rather than a need to achieve it. Being a hobby runner I'm not a professional or even high level club runner so I have all the time in the world and enjoy creating content to try show the journey of training and being there in the intensity of a race. So many people have said they found the content useful and started running or been inspired to try a first marathon so it’s worthwhile. But most importantly it’s for me personally as when I’m done with running in the future I’ll have it all to look back on.
People who stress about HR should remove it from their data screens for races, just lets negative thoughts get in your head. Unless you're doing a session to a HR zone it shouldn't be looked at IMO & should definitely turn the HR sensor of all together if you're going by the wrist. Well done on grinding out a solid time.👏
The watch data for wrist base sensors is sometimes bugged and inaccurate for sure and in this case has most likely locked high which has happened before in training many times, normally I take it off and put it back on to reset it. However I always go by perceived effort which was causing me the trouble and stress as I couldn’t even run 1km of sub 3 pace without breathing hard. The watch data became irrelevant really early on and I mentioned my perceived effort a couple of times in the video. If I was running to heart rate I would have stopped and walked as it was 190 to 200 which if it was correct would have been physically impossible to run a whole marathon at and feel fine.
Hi Nate, I did not race to heart rate , the numbers were just showing high so that’s why I used perceived effort for the race. If I was running to heart rate I would have stopped completely and walked as it’s physically impossible to run a marathon at near max HR without crashing. I felt fresh at the late stages and end so my watch was locked high but I knew if it was showing the correct amount (probably around 175 my guess) it’s still much higher than normal.
@@TheWu yeah. I never look at heart rate unless i have my forearm band. Good effort mate. The sub 3 is looming. You'll get there 😊. Work on faster half Marathons. That way you have confidence running faster. I always positive split. Faster in the start but still relaxed. I don't get how people negative split since it just gets harder later on right? Paris i took it more easy but still the final stretch was hard. Shall observe you getting there💪
I did my slowest ever half last October, but honestly, it'll probably go down as a favourite. There's a lot to be said for finishing with a smile and just having some fun. Well done on keeping on going and keeping the positive attitude. And a wee Donato cameo! Both the runners I follow featuring on each others videos was cool as a viewer.
Yes i think this was the best I’ve been in the marathon at the end which is a big positive. Body was fine physically, the race was lost at the start line where I just couldn’t make even 1km of sub 3 pace feel comfortable. Glad you enjoyed the content. There are so many good vloggers out there these days and it’s great to meet them in person at events.

You are an inspiration. Just found your channel, about to run my first half marathon this weekend! Excited to follow you on your journey
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed the content. Oh which event did you run??? Hope it went well.
I did the 20km of Brussels. Over 30.000 runners! Maybe that's one run you can pencil in next year, very fun event 😅
Great to meet you on Sunday and good to see you finish with a smile on your face. At the end of the day you put the training in, got faster and PB'd in the half on the way, that will carry forward into all your future races.
Absolutely , thanks man. We dust off and go again.

Well done for not DNFing and finishing strong! Glad you were happy at the end and what an amazing time this is!
Thanks mate. Onwards we go!
Thanks for the comment and continued support. Really glad I saw you both on the day.
Great to meet you mate. To abort the sub3 and finish with a smile and still come in at 3:01:15 shows how close you are! Once you have a good day out with no hiccups I'm sure you'll break it comfortably!
Yea you too man. I’ll get there one day! 🙏🏽
I feel like I wouldn’t worry about wrist heart rate data too much, yet still being able to talk. Well done for finishing!
@@TheWu do you think it’s more a mental thing?
Haha yes the “never again” only lasts for a little while. However Neil seems very adamant it will be never again!
DNF is a hard thing to decide but we have to be smart and make the decisions that’s best for our health. Good look for the future marathons.
Also, thanks for taking the time to chat with me in the bag drop 😁
Onto the next 💪🏻
Thanks for the comment my friend appreciate the support. Well done you. We go again!
Absolutely sick just to even run the amount you do. To get the times you're getting is simply ridiculous. Absolutely smashing it. We go again. 💪
Much appreciated!
Amazing video as always mate. Keep up the content and keep inspiring.
Thanks, will do!
Well done I doing chester marathon in oct 6 I done chester be for 22 looking forward to then
Thanks! Ah I know some people did Chester last year, I will race it one time for sure. 🙏🏽
The fact the you can run a whole marathon with such a high HR is admirable on itself.
Well I think it was high but probably not exactly what the watch was saying. Just going by perception of effort was the best way to run.
Great video and great run mate, done yourself proud on that one and finished strong! Onto the next 👊🏻
Appreciate the support as always Drew. 🙏🏽
I am subbing only because the guy asked a valid question; "Why is everyone else fine?"
Really enjoyed that mate! Well done on adjusting your plan to stay happy and healthy! Dig your style of filming and editing too.
Ah thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
New subscriber here. I left Sheffield in the late 90s and have lived abroad since, feeling nostalgic looking through the past episodes. Good luck!
Ah that’s awesome!
Inspirational finish! Well done 🙌 Congratulations!
Thank you very much!
Good effort. You are going to get it soon. Nice music choices in this vid mate.
Thanks 🙏🏽 , glad you enjoyed the music I tried to find the most fitting to express my feelings of the stages of the race.
So good to see you finish with a smile on your face - love that. Another brilliant run, particularly in the circumstances 👏🏼👏🏼
😊 thank you
Glad you finished it in a positive way. 3:01 still an awesome time with how you were feeling. Neil not selling marathon running to me lol. Onwards
Thanks Vicky. Yes I left Manchester feeling good. Neil definitely doesn’t want to do another haha
Well done The Wu! Your videos are so inspiring. I am doing my first marathon in October (Amsterdam) so love watching for tips 😊
Oh nice, hope you get better weather in Amsterdam than I did! It was cold and heavy rain ☔️
@@TheWu ah yes, I saw your vlog. I really hope it’s not like that 🙏🏻😂
Dude you were right there! Even with backing off.
I was yeah, that was the best positive of the day. Feeling fresh and only being around 1 minute over. Legs felt great too.
Well done so close that a mad HR for 3 hours running congrats on not giving in and DNF awesome mental strength.
Inga DK .
Haha yea thanks 🙏🏽
Man, good lad dealing with that from the get-go. You continue to inspire!
Cheers Mack appreciate it.
congrats for your strong marathon finish under that circumstances, will! did you encounter also any issues with your feet pain? regarding the high HR: is it on clock wrist or is it a real HR strap? i also suffer of high HR from anxious using a HR strap. lately observed few minutes before my last HM race 130/190. normaly this is my easy pace HR :-) got already the advice that breathing exercise could help to bring it down a bit. but did not get the chance to test it out yet, but will do next time for sure :-)
Hi, yea it’s a wrist based so I know it’s not the best or that accurate but it didn’t matter what number was shown really as I knew by perceived effort it would be too high. I will work on the anxiety and have been recommended to take some natural supplements for it.
Great effort mate! Keep going, you’ll get sub 3!
Cheers bro.
Unbelievably good video with just a mix of emotions in that race with a fantastic ending you sir 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for that. Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done! Amazing effort and a very strong finish. You'll smash sub 3 next time mate, it is coming!
I’ll keep going and get there one day!
Great video, you've definitely reshaped the narrative!
Thanks! 🙏🏽
Well done for getting it done and turning it into a positive.
Cheers 🙏🏽
Well done Wu - I, too, felt like DNF’ing half way, but boy does it make it sweeter when you finish. It will come 🚀
Oh hope you had a good run in the end. Thanks
Congrats will! You still had an amazing time ❤
Thank you!!
Well done Wu. Great time anyway just 1 min over your target. Superb🏃🏻♂️👌🏼
Thanks mate. I’ll get there eventually ! 🤞🏽
You were just ahead of a friend of ours that we were spectating so we caught you 4 times! You looked strong every time despite how you might have been feeling 💪🏻💪🏻
Thanks, I hope your friend had a better race than I did! At least I finished well and happy, positives for the day for me. 🙏🏽
It'll come, you are so close! Keep up the great work 👍🏽
Thanks I will do! 🙏🏽
Quality running there, Extremely enjoyed that video 🔥🔥
Thanks so much !
You might as well skip the 3.00 and just train for Sub 2.55 for GFA now 😜
Bravo The Wu!!!
Yea you are so right. It’s a massive positive to feel amazing at the late stage and finish of a marathon, especially if we run so close to our goal too! I’ll be running Valencia this year I can’t wait it looks good.
Soo close! Great effort tho mate, you’ll get it next time 💪
Thanks mate, appreciate it. You did well too.
13:17 “why is everyone else fine?” 😂
Unlucky on the sub 3 attempt but you WILL get it 🤟🏼
Neil did great , he really experienced the distance of the marathon didn’t he!
You have an impressive haul of seriously good times. Is that 4 sub 3:02 marathons? That's hugely impressive.
Thanks 🙏🏽 Yep that’s correct, I’ll get over the line one day !
Thanks again for your support on the course. You put a lot of effort into those timings and cycling all day!
@@TheWu You’re welcome Will, watched @ob1brand video last night and the part at the end with you is great. And 3:01 is still fantastic✅
Brilliant at the end - super funny 😂😂😂
It was proper good haha
Nice to meet you at the end of the race on sunday,im sure you will hit the sub 3.00 hour soon 🙂
Thanks man, appreciate it.
So close, it will come. And yes he do another, was my 2nd on Sunday and I said never again at mile 23 and here we are again booking one 😂😂
Haha well done!
@@TheWu thank you so much. I’ve been on it for a couple of days now. Must say I feel guilty eating this much but hopefully it pays off!
Good to see you at bag drop - nice guy - pressed subscribe button now
Much appreciated!
Well done mate, we go again! 👍
Absolutely!
Great job Will, been waiting for this vlog 😃 love the video and top spirit ! Tried to find you and some others at the end but couldn't stay too long as I didn't want to leave the wife waiting. Wish my bad day had been just minute of target too 😂 Hope to catch up one day soon !
Thanks Matt, I was around for quite a while chatting to people, shame we didn’t meet. 😢
Good video will, I think I'm the day you do break this sub 3 curse you're going to smash it completely.
Thanks mate, Boston Lincs for you soon innit !
@@TheWu I've got derby on my radar mate. Apparently a lot easier than Sheffield so maybe can shave some minutes off there
@@WhithamfamilyTV derby is fast, I’ve vlogged it a few times
So close again. You've definitely got it in you.
Almost 😅
Well done buddy but gutted for you, we believe you will get it soon. I ran Manchester on Sunday as my first full marathon. Done loads of half's finial completed a full. I had no pressure, just wanted to complete and run it all, everything went to plan and it was amazing, loved every second. My legs have dubiously come back to life. My final time was 4hr 27 min. I think your mate should definitely do another,.... I am 😂😂😂
Well done 👏🏽 You are a marathoner!
I’m sure you will work down now to that sub 4. My mate Neil is adamant he doesn’t want to do another 😅
@@TheWu I love being one of the 0.1% or whatever the percentage is 😂👍
I forgot my Hr monitor for the Edinburgh marathon. Best thing I could have done. You can sometimes get too obsessed with it
Yea it’s a forgotten skill for most of us, being able to run without the tech.
Well done!
🙏🏽
Great video, think heart rate can take over people sometimes and frighten d life out of them it it's really high, I never look at it till race is over
Thanks 🙏🏽 , yea i didn’t take much notice to it early on as I knew it was stuck high. The main worry was just how hard sub 3 pace felt.
You’re easily a sub 3hr marathon runner,keep going
I appreciate that! 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Great video! And yes he will do another 😂
Thanks , he’s still saying no! 😂
Neil was the star of the episode! 😂
I ran there as well. Are you running at the Ramathon again?
Hope you had a good race. Hmmm thinking about trying for a Pb in derby yea.
@@TheWu will see you then!
Just sign up to a marathon, dont tell anyone in YT and go run it without recording. You can easily do it. Great run buddy.
Like a secret assassin! 😅
Good jobs and next sub 3 would be your next race
🙏🏽
Have loved your videos man. Inspired me to sign up for Manchester 2025. Are you going for sub 3 again next year?
Brilliant to hear. Manchester is a big one! Yes I’ll try sub 3 again hopefully this year.
@@TheWuAwesome, good luck!
I'm proud of you bro 😊
Thanks mate
Way too much pressure on yourself mate! That heart rate is mental! 😂 I know you will smash 3 hours soon!
Yea the heart rate isn’t really correct as it’s wrist base but I knew it would be too high regardless of what number was showing. I went by perceived effort as sub 3 pace was way too hard from the start line.
@@TheWu over 26.2 miles you have to find 2 minutes! That's 100 percent happening mate! 🤣
@@TheWu you’ll defo go sub 3 soon. 100%
So close again mate amazing time still tho
Yea at least I was close enough, a lot of positives of the day to take.
Well done, still a good run. I’m no expert but I’d say to STOP LOOKING AT YOUR HR!
Well done to you😮👍🏃. New subscriber here.
Thanks for subbing 🙏🏽
Times don't define you, that sub 3 is around the corner.
Thanks 🙏🏽 I feel so too!
Idk, have you, like, considered running without filming ?
If you are using watch for heart rate then ignore it. I never let heart rate determine my race. But you also felt gased. So fair enough
