You don't need to replace it. Just take it out, open it up and clean it. There's a plastic gauze in it that gets caked with air particles that won't let air through. The sensor cost 100 US so fuck that i cleaned mine and it worked fine. Opening it is a dremel cut, then glue it back together. Takes an hour.
@Jon Rod I agree. In my experience, the "your cheap" slight typically comes from someone who somehow feels threatened that someone else easily fixed something that they paid $100 for. To compensate, they lash out and try to knock the ingenuity in others that they dont have themselves. That and many people are just mindless consumers. It's ironic because OPs comment literally is what made this entire video useful.
Mine has pretty much not been working for the more than 6 years I have had my E61. Btw. it's only potentially being used by the car when you have the air re-circulation in A- mode *automatic*. In this position the car will take air in from the outside until it senses the air is sufficiently polluted - then it switches automatically to re-circulation. So not a big deal unless you travel a lot in areas with a lot of pollution, there it will come in handy.

Hi mate. I have a CEL on and codes I have are 801225 , 801224 and E71439. What may be causing this, just had air con recharged but still have light on.
Mine was broken without error code. Just lost its sensitivity. In F30 3 series you can hear it very well if it switches into recirculation mode. One day i wondered why i didn´t hear the recirc noise for a long time, so i started to investigate and tested the sensor by letting my gasoline brushcutter blow some exhaust on it while reading the AUC sensor data with OBD. Showed almost no reaction. After replacing the sensor i repeated the procedure, the new sensor reacted immediately and switched into recirc mode. The new sensor has a "02" version index on it, so i hope BMW optimized it to last longer than the original "01" indexed version.
Does this sensor have anything to do with the oil sensor and engine tempeature guage going up? Have changed all parts on my F10 but still car gauge is going slightly high on long drives
would this sensor tell the computer diagnostic it has 0 pressure? I have changed the high low pressure valve 3 times, the gas is charged and with pressure but it doesnt detect the pressure so the compressor never turns on
All this does is automate the Recirculating valve for the cabin air. thats it. you dont HAVE to change it. you can manually select recirc in the cab by the controls. replacing it is more to get rid of the constant error it gives. Why that thing costs so much is anyone's guess.
It will not show in the cluster, or in a generic obd2 reading. I use bimmergeeks software to read codes that you would normally need the dealer (or the$4000 - $9000 reader from snapon).
