*This is a bonus episode of the weekly Pod of Greed podcast! We're going to start publishing these for everyone about a month after they air for members-only! Of course, we still would appreciate it if you become a channel member to support the podcast!* 😄
Oh cute, making these membership first is a nice thing, I can't afford to throw money out at the moment but am happy to wait to enjoy the content eventually
Hey everyone! Some potentially names for extra pod segment, all based on card names. Pod of EXTRAvagance Backup Squad Pod of Charity Pod of the Forbidden one (or two for Paul and Alec) Also could just be The Extra Deck or Chain Link 2.
Loved the extra episode! Hearing your guys stories about past duels or matches that were memorable for you for whatever reason was super cool, I'd love to hear more about experiences like that, or about yalls experience trying other card games you don't play anymore.
there's a really interesting quote, I forgot who its from, but it goes something like "players will optimise the fun out of their own game", and I think that is just so fitting here.
Love the idea to post past bonus coverage. My vote is for ‘Pod of EXTRAvagance’. Bonus content idea: TCG product shout out. Something personal you guys use daily or has changed your collecting experience.
Sounds like Alec needs to give Keyforge a shot! The best sealed card game experience available in my opinion. You pay $15, you get a complete 36 cards deck with a unique name and combination of cards that no other deck has. Then you throw down with a friend. Low stakes, no feels bad losses.
Great first ep, always enjoy the discussion! It could be cool to bring guests on occasion, especially if they have a unique perspective on TCGs like an artist, creator, etc for variety
Thoughts: I. Love. This! Immediately worth the membership. As someone who is less than a filthy casual, I do only care about having fun and putting cards on table. So, I really appreciate the back-and-forth and perspectives of this additional conversation. That said, I do and don't relate to the extent that I don't care about losing as long as I "get to do the thing"...but also don't care about winning if either my opponent or I don't "get to do the thing".
I love that point you guys brought up. The more thought and effort you put into the game, the more frustrating it can be to lose a game, especially if you feel like you played near perfectly and still lost.
That's why I love Vanguard (premium format). If you lose it, don't feel unfair, and you can see why you lost, and winning doesn't feel bad either, some times.
I wasn't expecting the bonus eps to be this long. If I wasn't as broke as a dad joke, I'd be a member, lol. Not sure if you've nailed down a name for these eps but I have an idea: Expansion Pack!
Card shop stories would be a really cool segment. Between any stories anyone on team APS may have or viewer submitted stories I think it’d be fun to include 1 or 2 per episode
I notice that a lot with the group of people i play casual yugioh with is that decks you have more investment in definitely feel devastating to lose with, especially given how the game of Yugioh is that just creates so many non games where one player just blew the other out of the water without a fighting chance. Even in lower level play it creates some situations where you both pull out a deck but one of them just hard counters the other and you can't really have a game with them. Definitely the most fun games we've been having lately is playing with our draft box of cards where we just deal out so many cards and have to build a deck out of only them. Like Alec said it's a lot easier to be chill about the game when things like the card pool are out of your control and you just have to go with what you have.
Regarding digimon I play a nice mixed deck of belphemon leviamon and I really enjoy its playstyle against most match ups. Just a crazy duo boss monsters that can go toe to toe against any other boss monster 😎
I noticed myself getting too salty lately. There’s a lot of fighting games video about how not to be salty and I they had some really good advice! Find the source of your salt! Play to win but also remember to play to learn. Unless you’re the best in the world there is a ton to learn!
Fun definitely can be had in card even if both players are playing high-end decks. But it requires both players to be good sports. And a close game where anyone could of one or a back and forth also learning new applications for certain card helps
Pod of Generosity 4sure Also as a pot question, curious what you guys think of altering the starting hand size to make going 2nd better. Like first draws 4 and 2nd 5 or even maybe 6 still
I tried starting a casual YGO night at a game store because the other stores around my area have meta-level locals and nothing else. Bad turnout so far though unfortunately (single digits).
"[. . . .] The moment you build a deck with the intention of winning you have consigned yourself to a much deeper hole to reach fun [. . . .]." Profound philosophical statement.👌🤔
Definitely can relate to Alec feeling disillusioned and frustrated when his favorite deck got nerfed and was never able to regain it's competitive relevance. I played Blackwings for several years, from the peak of its popularity to a few years after it had been made irrelevant in the meta by Xyz decks like Dragon Rulers. I remember going to a few "casual" tournaments, getting my ass kicked in a few turns and never going back.
GOAT/schoolyard format could be brutal too. I remember being miserable playing against that kid with freaking 1900atk monsters, with raigeki to boot. Even good cards like Harpies Brother had to be played in defense mode. Completely out-tempod, and drawing/playing 1 card at a time
What seems to be the case in most card games: It's a lot more fun to play with your friends because you can more easily set expectations. I've played Magic for 10+ years and I have always HATED playing at LGSs.
my friend and I play advanced format but lower tier decks (blue eyes v gate guardian) and its super fun until we have to look up a ruiling its very tedious idc most of the time and i try to go by what the cards say
I think I am just done with TCG's in general, especially Yugioh. Power creep is too intense and you just have to keep updating the deck with the current meta staples. As for collecting, the Bonanza QCSR buy outs where people just buy everything out and then just not list them back put me off. I'm just gonna spend money on something else lol.
It's funny there was a European Yugioh player who was being interviewed and the question he got asked was "What was the number 1 reason why you didn't top today's event?" And his answer was short but so true......... he answered "I couldn't draw the card." I love this answer because a lot of the time that's what it comes down to, playing 3 copies of a card and not being able to draw it, or even worse, siding in 6+ cards and not seeing any of them. It can be very frustrating, I mean what is the point of maxing out on a card or using a side deck if you can't get to see them *{::>_
Sorry to be the narc here but I'm not a member and it showed this in my feed. Yall might wanna check that. Backed out before it got started. Ill check it if I join later.
Paul you've gotta start playing other games lol. Despite human tendency to get upset when losing, yugioh has major issues other games just don't have. The game is FAR too volatile and you are spending a LOT of time watching your opponent play with themselves for an egregious amount of time. My TCG bias in terms of interest leans yugioh bc of my nostalgia and I love the art, but literally every other major game on the market is better designed than Yu-Gi-Oh. It's popular in the way that McDonald's is popular. It's unhealthy and Far from the best burger around, but you stick to it because it's convenient for you and it's what you know

Hype hype.
if the normal podcast is named after pot of greed, and this one has to be paid for, you could call it grateful charity or something along those lines.

Pod of the Forbidden one (or two for Paul and Alec)

Pod of Extravagance is cute!
I was thinking maybe Turn 2 or Draw Phase or somethin since they always say pass turn after the pod
@@laurenperrin705 ohh I like Draw phase. That's clever!
@@Basic_Nerd Ah man, Draw Phase is awesome, BUT they should name each segment after a phase.
Loved the extra episode! Hearing your guys stories about past duels or matches that were memorable for you for whatever reason was super cool, I'd love to hear more about experiences like that, or about yalls experience trying other card games you don't play anymore.

Not worth it imo

That was some card games real talk! Love it 😂
Looking forward to those juicy Master Duel stories
I feel Paul with that blue eyes loss..
Same thing happened to me when i was so close to pulling out Kali Yuga playing blackwings
Card shop stories would be a really cool segment. Between any stories anyone on team APS may have or viewer submitted stories I think it’d be fun to include 1 or 2 per episode
sic episode. Enjoyed the more in depth dive about your experience with tcgs
Can the smaller segment be called Jar of Greed? Since it's a shorter/smaller segment than the typical Pod (t)
What if the segment was named Pod Of Extravagance? Another interesting one might be calling it The Greed Feed

loved your convo! it got deep 🧐
first time I got hit with that blue eyes quick spell I was like oh damn lmao
Long tome ago. Had a card shop owner said to me. "Bro you have more fun losing in vanguard then you are winning in magic"
I wonder why
great episode i enjoyed hearing some stories and how guys feel about things keep it up
Petition to start a tier to buy Alec a sidetable to tap his fingers on instead of the table the mics are on
Regarding digimon I play a nice mixed deck of belphemon leviamon and I really enjoy its playstyle against most match ups. Just a crazy duo boss monsters that can go toe to toe against any other boss monster 😎

The Maxx C Discussion
The Reckless Greed
The Extra Deck Files
The Chain Reaction
I love rage with the blue eyes of blue. I used to torrential tribute then just otk. Felt like kaiba lol
I thought I hacked the system by being able to watch this, lol
The best answer for a name for this has got to be: {DRAW 2} ❤ keep on keeping on guys, I'll keep watching!
Extra segment should be called the side deck
These shorter extra episodes are great.

I think speed duel can be fun in yugioh if you use the pre made decks with friends

Extra pull sounds like a good name
The Extra Pull

If names for the show are still up in the air why not "standby phase" or "end phase"
Is there a way to contact you guys for a conversation and hopefully some advice?
All thre--seven of us, y'all.

Yep! We are releasing older members-only episodes since they're a couple months old.
Nice. Thank you
I'm not a channel member but somehow I was able to see this video
Yep! We're releasing these older ones
It's pod of greed so draw 2 might work because it's 2 of you and a 2nd 2nd pod episode
The pod of generosity, or watashi no podcast
Name idea: Double Summon
Playing any black meta deck in One Piece is an auto win against most colors. Your opponent can’t play the game if he can’t establish a board.
Welcome back to : The Jar of Greed

Hell yeah vip lesgooo
Gracefully charity
Draw 2
Why can I see this if is only pay?
it was set to 2 months of "members first" and came out for them in Sept, it's just unlocked for non-members today
The Pod of Generosity?
