The lighting mod looks great and immersive for naturally dark areas like Things Betwixt and the interiors, but it sort of sullies the beauty of the daylit areas like Majula and Heide's tower. That being said, I would love to see how this mod looks in areas with more complex lighting like No Man's Wharf or Shrine of Amana.
Stay tuned! No man’s wharf will be in the next comparison video. Shrine of Amana is going to take a while tho lol.

New vid up featuring No Man’s Wharf.
The lighting in the original at 0:30 shows one of the most obvious flaws with the original lighting of DS2. Those 3 little candles on the desk are emitting so much bright white light (more like a modern lightbulb than a candle) while the pages on all of the white books are too blindingly reflective, even for how bright the candles are. If you look at the large open book on the desk especially, you see what I mean. The black text is badly washed out, and the book is literally radiating light to the point you can see a glowing effect against the walls next to it like the book itself IS a lightsource.
The mod lighting is definitely more natural. I think the distant view of the Majula sunset and the water look better in the original, but I think there's no denying that the lighting in the mod is overall more natural.
Jesus that looks good
So good.
Torches can finally be useful outside the gutter and the Windmills from poison valley
It looks cool, but I wouldn't say it looks better, just darker with a lot more bloom.
The Majula one looks a lot worse imo and Heide's Tower having nighttime shading while the skybox is still bright is kinda weird too.
I actually really like that weird contrast. But to each his own and beauty is in the eye of the beholder yada yada lol. Thanks for watching.
But that bonfire lighting is great contrasting w/ the dimly lit room. And you can see in the OG 0:30 that the few small candles so are unnaturally bright that the open book is blindingly reflective, even washing out the black text on the book. The distant view of the Majula sunset is the one thing I think for sure suffers from this mod but overall I see more that looks more natural now in the modded version.
@@OnAChairSittingyou get kinda the same look in the scene at 0:30 if you set the brightness lower. Same about the room with the bonfire, the OG shot is too bright, and the mod just makes it too bloomy and oversaturated.
Like I get if you prefer how the mod looks, but the title of the video is kinda misleading, it doesn't make the lighting objectively better, it just buries the image with post-processing effects.
@@attilabertoldbozo4248 I'll have to look at this area in-game myself to check this. Ultimately the one you prefer is the one you should use and it's all subjective. I figure the mod is probably more configurable than default lighting though and I might play with the settings myself
I looked at the preview and I read "Dark Souls 2 but with the good *fighting".*
Well, this one is good, too...
Haha
Holy that’s a whole new game dude it looks amazing. DS2 deserves more love like this.
this mod is a MUST in 2024
ngl I was expecting a shitpost where miracles where reverted back to pre patch levels. this is much better though
This mod is the best way to play Dark Souls 2. Its so nice
It wasn't bad until that comparison shot of the majula sea. The mod is much worse, can't see the details, it looks like the game is just darker and I don't like it in places like majula where the details of the jagged rocks are not able to be seen anymore cause it's too damn dark. I think i'll keep waiting for Stayd's Flames of Old mod, even if it takes a decade.
Cool I’ll have to look that mod up. Just an FYI this mod is configurable. I think you can adjust it to look as you want.
Heide towers was cool. But yes everything else is darker than usual
Amazing how does it look with a torch?
Holy shit 😮 Remake Level Mod
btw, are you soft banned for using this mods? i wanted to play online with graphics mod
This is what the mod page says:
Online Play:
The mod is safe for online play. It does not change touch the game data files, only the shader files are modified. It does not trigger the Anti-Cheat system. However we cannot guarantee it won't cause a ban. Please use at your own risk.
Oki
Problem is, it's still dark souls 2
rofl
I will never play the vanilla again.
it looks worse as for me. I get the appeal of dynamic lighting but DS2 has artistic style, textures and lightplay that makes it beutiful
The artistic style of vanilla ds2 is sh*t. It was heavily downgraded from the demo, which was darker and had more inpressive dinamic lighting.
Nahh
