texas is truly a trip you couldnt forget
That was a long trip for you guys, but I'm sure that you're happy for the experience.
Imagine how well this restaurant would do in England!
Don't know if you guys noticed but a few other you tube channels are reacting to your Texas bbq video. I have already seen 2 different ones; one from a British youtuber and another from a south African youtuber. 😂
Can we order barbecue from this Restaurant Terry Black's
That moment when you realize that you just tested BBQ positive...
“You would almost be criminal to put a sauce on this!” From a Texan, I shed a happy tear. You Brit’s get it! If you need sauce for your meat, you didn’t cook it right!!
Sauce is a condiment,…you’re soooo right!
I am bi-BBQ. I can swing both ways. I really do appreciate the excellent meat, but I love a good sauce too. I don't drown it or cover it up though.
@@RobSchellingersauce should compliment the meat, never to out do it.
THANK YOU!!! I'm Danish and I hate sauce - I want to be able to taste the meat.
@@kbhprinsesse y'all make some tasty breakfast pastries. 😉
Josh really is obsessed with barbeque! He's doing that thing where you over-use all the new words that you learn about from researching a hobby you're obsessed with! Lol
lol the BARK on that!
This is hilarious.. but I'd probably get just as giddy eating this treasure 😅
@@MrLainon 🤣
Proper BBQ is an art that takes many failures to get it done right. Glad a Brit is getting into smoking meats, American style
LOL I literally thought the same thing. Love that for him
I feel so spoiled now watching this. I've lived in TX my whole life and just now feel like I've been taking it for granted. You guys make it sound like you've discovered a portal to another dimension.
Cuz british food is so bland and digusting
Lmao same. I live like 5 minutes away from Terry Blacks.
😆😆😆😆
I mean.... lbr tho... it ain’t like they’ve got much over there with that much flavor lol they literally SAID they don’t season their batter on their fish in their “fish & chips” dish with a straight face in one video where they were eating fried fish in Louisiana & comparing it to the fried fish in the UK. 😅 anyone who eats anything battered & fried & DOESNT SEASON THE BATTER ain’t used to eating foods with flavor at all! 😂
As someone from South Georgia whos been eating soul food their whole life, I was SHOCKED when they said that in that video! Lol who tf eats anything battered without seasoning the batter!? They’re just over there eating the saddest grease & flour flavored fish!! 😥😥 so sad lol
I was born and raised in Houston. moved to alabama. it's not the same
For the owner of this place that goes in early and stays late to make bbq every day, this is the ultimate compliment for all your work. The guys being speechless and then they make the camera guys try it is so awesome!
The owner does that? I mean kudos if they do. They're not alone though. Big kudos to the workers who make this happen too!
Seriously.. this takes a TEAM!
I'm a southern woman, and it makes me so happy to see people not only enjoying our food but our culture as well. Worldwide, there is the stigma about Americans and how we're uncultured, and seeing these two men experience our culture regionally and Countrywide makes my heart swell
When people talk about uncultured Americans it's because they think Americans don't know much about outside their country. Though in most cases, these people are just as ignorant. It has nothing to do with food
@@melikmourali2072 as a Texan living in Wisconsin, the Midwest is definitely uncultured lmao

They have the orgasm eyes every time they take a bite and as a Texan, it makes me so happy. Brits need a place like that in their home country.
Some whimp on FB was complaining it was "wasteful" and "too much meat." We just don't need that kind of negativity.

I didn’t really understand the craftsmanship and dedication that actually goes into a great brisket until recently. But when done right it is a transformation equivalent to a caterpillar becoming a beautiful butterfly.
I came here to do the same...I love being from South Texas so much and Texas brisket is my favorite thing on earth. Terri Black's is always solid. Their reactions were not fake lol

I happened to be in Dallas and decided to go here based solely on this video!!! It was freaking AMAZING! We call that an orgasmic food experience in my family.😂
Their comments and reactions are just so genuine and innocent...and always kind. It's absolutely adorable. When they googly eyed or their eyes start rolling around...you can't help but smile from start to finish.
Josh and Ollie’s shock about how the best meal is just found on the side of the Highway, unassuming restaurant is just a perfect description of southern food. The best foods down here aren’t in chains or Michelin star restaurants, though they do deserve stars; they’re in the random, hole in the wall, mom and pop restaurants. So glad the south is receiving more love and recognition for its amazing food!
Yes! Find the hole-in-the-wall, small town, family-run restaurants. People who take pride in everything they make.
It's $140 for 3 lbs of meat and 5 pints of sides at this place. Hardly a hole in the wall.
Terry Blacks is one of the most well known Austin Texas BBQ spots
@@aaronax726 True, but finding it and from the street it is deceptive.

As a Texan, I’m so used to brisket that I never even think about how amazing it is.
I live in Alabama and finding brisket is almost impossible. have had some out of state but no local places carry it. I used to have a buddy fed ex me brisket on dry ice form out of state but he moved and no longer has access.
I just arrived in Texas after a long stint in NYC. I'd have brisket on occasion there. It was usually easy to get there but ran from $20 - $30 per pound.
I know right. I makeone a month, never crossed my mind hoe awesome others might think it is.
So true. I can go to Rudy’s right down the street and get great BBQ or I can drive a little to Terry Blacks and get phenomenal BBQ

I'm tearing up watching these reactions. Love when people experience a delicious food the first time.
As a European by birth who moved to Texas almost a decade ago I can confirm. Texas BBQ is absolutely phenomenal and it blows away every BBQ imitation I had back home in Europe. Like it's not even close, it's like an adult man beating up a toddler, that's how big the difference is. And the crazy thing is that there are another 3 or 4 American styles of BBQ that are just as good as Texan BBQ. And then there's South American BBQ, such as Brazilian BBQ. Europe is so far behind in the BBQ game it's not even funny.
As someone who's lived in Texas for 15 years and married a Texan, I'm of course partial to our BBQ. However, I wouldn't turn down anything from St. Louis, Kansas City, Memphis, or the Carolinas either. And the folks in South America all have their own unique style with wild flavor too. Completely agree with you observations.
Four other state Bar-B-Q's are as good as Texan?! You trying to provoke another civil war?!

So good to see our British friends truly enjoying some good old American barbecue!!😃
Texan here, y'all hit on one of my favorite things about Texas bbq that I hadn't even thought of: how humble it is. You see a line of people who have been standing there for 4 hours before opening waiting to get in and get the best food you've ever eaten in your life served to you on paper plates and styrofoam cups on the side of the highway, and not a single complaint can be heard about any of it. There's no atmosphere you feel like you have to live up to, it's just good food and good times
I'm born and raised Texan as is my great grandpa. I am so scared that someone is going to come up with proof that they are just acting.
they did it just right too. Barbecue in America is food that's supposed to take an entire afternoon to eat, it's as much an excuse to hang out with your friends as it is to eat a meal. It probably looks weird to a lot of europeans, to just get a huge platter of food and then just go at it with your hands... but yeah, that's kind of the point. There's no ceremony, there's no etiquette, it's just you, the food and the company for a couple hours
Yeah, Georgia ain't much different, though we tend to favor soul food more than BBQ. You ever come to GA, check out Pralines (Kinda like pecan cookies), Divinity (A pecan meringue dessert), and some soul food, especially nice greens that have been slow cooked in leftover meats, typically a bit of pork fat, my favorite are the mustard greens, though they smell awful, their taste is what matters really.
Brisket has a very interesting story. Brisket comes from the lower chest of the cattle and as such is a very dense and hard muscle and was considered a 'throw away' cut because no one could cook it. Well the ranch-hands/cowboys that tended the herds asked the owners if they could have it and they discovered that if you cooked it at a very low heat (ie smoke cooking) over a long period of time the fat would render and soften the meat.
One of the best reaction videos I've ever seen. Jolly is straight grade A entertainment.

As someone who has lived in TX all his life, I am so happy to see y'all visit our neck of the woods. TX BBQ is IMO one of the few cuisines that America can legitimately call its own. Possible suggestion: You guys need to do a second video of the behind the camera guys finishing the food on your trays adding their own commentaries as they enjoy the same experiences you just did!
That would be cool to see once in a while!
Yes! Great idea, @dmmcbrid70.
Yes!!! Great suggestion!
Love it. This is why I bring food to people when I find something amazing. The look of pure joy at the first taste is amazing.
Born in Texas, raised in GA, moved back to TX when i was 13, it makes me so so happy to see y’all enjoying texas bbq! Smoked turkey is my absolute favorite! I could almost smell and taste it myself, welling up with tears of happiness to see y’alls love of our cuisine!
“I do not feel bad. I knew you first; I deserve this.” “Commiserations, Gabby. You tried, but at the end of the day, I won.”
Of course Ollie brings it all back to the battle of the wives 😂
In the end, Ollie somehow ends up winning or getting somewhat close to a victory, LMAO
We all know that Ollie is the OG wife! 😂
@@Sassymouse88 Of course! 😄
I really want to find the first vid that Ollie said that he’s the first wife 😂
@@whereyoubean Oh man, that’s a tough one! Possibly the very first wife vs best friend challenge about 4 years ago?? The way they talk about the dynamic makes it seem like it’s the first time bringing it up on camera.
Hey guys, I have to say, I have mad respect for you. Most people when they try food from other countries, they go into it closed minded. It was super fun watching you guys, and I hope you enjoyed every aspect of your stay in the US!
It's easy when you're a Brit. No matter what country you go to, the food will be better than what you have at home.
@@respox2191Yes but these two have went to so many different restaurants and tried some of the very best, and even then this is one of their best meals they ever had which is awesome
hard to close the mind if you smell that meat grilling, the smell says time to eat like even if you do not like coffee you tried it after the first time you smelled it brewing. Smells over ride thoughts, most good food smells good when cooking and draws you in. Nothing better than college football saturdays I ride through neighborhoods with grills smoking and being on bike you get all the smells man it is heaven and makes you hungry even if you just ate.
Well said
Well they have tried a lot of American Foods at this point & they already know to expect great flavor if they’re eating any where over here! Lol especially any where in the south. It’s their favorite lol they already know going in that if it’s a popular restaurant over here that it’s gone be bussin! 😂
Having lived in Austin 81-89 (before Black's, Franklin's and other currently renown BBQ joints there), I understand your glee in this food. It's spectacular when done well. And they've been perfecting it since I left. And I'm still searching for something remotely similar here in So Cal.
As a Texan, I'm so happy yall got to try this. I've got a Terry blacks down the street from me, and it's worth all the hype and more
As a Texan, I’m proud to say that we pride ourselves on our bbq. It’s a delicate process that takes time and care to do properly. With that comes the best BBQ.
And those of us who have eaten it but don't live nearby spend the rest of our lives trying to reproduce it. I'm fully aware I'll never achieve it but I'll keep trying anyway.
@@jak9955that’s part of it too, it’s never perfected you can always make it better
I would say theirs 2 types of style in texas you got northern and southern they should really go try southern more Mexican style BBQ where they peel the face meat from the cows skull that's really good
"It would almost be criminal to put a sauce on that."
Spoken like a true Texan!
Very true, a friend if mine from Chicago visited me one summer. I smoked a brisket and some chicken, along with some polish sausages.
After some hours, he told me I had forgotten to buy bbq sauce. I told him I happened to have a bottle of kraft bbq sauce that was about 2 years old, collecting dust.
He couldn't get over the idea that we don't consider sauce a part of the bbq process, or, at least I don't.
I asked him if he grilled his hot dogs already smothered in musterd? No. Ok do you grill your hamburger patties slathered in mayo? No, of course not. Why not? Because its gross, those are condiments. I said, Exactly. That's why Texas bbq is cooked by smoking, and served with sauce, on the side. Its a condiment.
Folks that slather bbq sauce on the meat while it cooks are trying to hide a nasty flavor in the meat. In Texas, we want you to taste the flavor and juicyness of the meat, then if you want, dip it in sauce. You'll also be asked to sit at the kids table.
This explains why I've been underwhelmed by American BBQ. I've not had it in Texas and some of the other Southern States. Florida does not do good BBQ.
@@rimun5235 If you mean you’re underwhelmed by the lack of sauce, then you’ve never had beef bbq done right. It’s not a lie to say great beef bbq needs no sauce.
Genuinely, after watching this video I've finally decided where to go on vacation. Never been to the US before but Texas is definitely my first stop!! Thanks for sharing!!
It warms my Texan heart to see someone so excited for BBQ.
I’m a Texan currently in the middle of a month in the UK.
Their idea of BBQ is what we know of as grilling and every piece of meat is well done.
A good BBQ or Tex-Mex restaurant would make a killing here, provided you could get Health and Safety to approve your cooking methods. Lol
A Texas BBQ next to a fish and chips place would make a mint. People get tired of the same things over and over. Give them something different and business would flourish by word of mouth.
Yeah, slap a place like this in the Midlands, and it would become a tourist attraction!!
Yeah, it's kinda weird having a BBQ in your back yard in the UK... We're the only ones in our neighbourhood doing it. And I won't cut corners. I am not doing gas. that's not a BBQ. Charcoal or gtfo. Trouble is the smoke. And they have laws in the UK against smoke. So it's out of the question to smoke a brisket for 12 hours, Texas style. It's such a shame... British people would be a heck of a lot more fun if the government would stop making their lives difficult with nonsense rules and laws.
@@CristiNeagu
I can kind of get it in the city, but how about in the country? I'd be surprised if they restricted people where there's no real issue to complain about. I mean how do you clear your undergrowth if you can't run a burn pile?
@@CtrlAltRetreat I think you're supposed to compost. Not sure, I'd love to have an undergrowth to have that problem. The law applies everywhere. The difference is that in the country side people won't be as bothered by your smoke so they won't report you. And they might even agree with you.
They're so amazed by the barbecue they're even showing the reactions of the crew for basically every single bite 😂
what they dont realize is how many americans make just as good a meal at home a few times a year. and thats just the BBQ...
@@joshjones718 i think that's really a gross underestimation of how hard it is to cook proper Que, there is an art form to proper Que and you talk like it's so easy that you could do it. i mean sure if you to try you'd probably make some decent Que, but it's likely gonna be tough and/or dry, because you dont know what you're doing.
@@UltimateGamerCC Really good point, as a northerner i wouldnt know the first thing about making que. What you know is based on what you grew up with. Homemade Italian food is a different story
@@e50s65 yeah, but even then you still need to practice making the stuff, but that's the same with all aspects of cooking.
@@UltimateGamerCC people love to make them feel above others. they can't appreciate hard work and people enjoying it
I'm SO happy for you guys. I'm in Houston, and I'm about to go get some BBQ right now!
Every single section of that plate was like discovering a new culture with each bite. Thanks for taking care of your crew, as well, boys. That alone makes me respect how you go about things. Glad you enjoyed one of the truly American entries into the culinary troposphere.
I have seen Josh and Ollie eat at so many Michillen star restaurants and of course they enjoy it but their rection to Texas BBQ is genuinely on another level and it brings me great Joy. 😁
There's something pure about the simple joy a roadside BBQ can bring when it's done to perfection.
As someone who's lived in Austin for over twenty years, I'm so proud and happy for you guys to be eating Texas caliber BBQ. We prepare BBQ with the same care and love you'd show your grandma lol
Have you had The Salt Lick? Which do you prefer between the two of them?
@@majorwakanda8858 salt lick is for tourists. It’s not even in the same league.
Second! There are also so many hidden gems that are smaller but just as good
Skip Salk Lick. Terry Black's, Interstellar, or Micklethwait. I would say Franklin's, but you'll wait half a day if you want to eat there.
@@fishguy911 I was somewhat a tourist, I’m from San Antonio lol.
Thanks for the answer, I was super curious.
I saw the salt lick on food network and wanted to go so I went lol.
It was the best barbecue I’ve ever had and I always buy the Spicy Barbecue sauce from HEB now lol
Glad to know there’s even better barbecue just down the highway.
As a Texan I cant tell you how good it does my heart to see folk lovin our BBQ.
“It would almost be criminal to put a sauce in that…” 100% accurate my friend!
He should try rare prime rib.
“Maybe the best meal of my life” is such a lovely thing to hear from these guys about my state’s food. Y’all’s faces told the story through the whole video. Awesome content.
Some of the best sausage is made in central Texas because of the huge German influence that goes back generations. Love watching you guys enjoy the food I grew up on. Cheers!
I will judge a bbq joint by their sausage. Such an overlooked art. Still have Meyers garlic high on the list but the sausage from both Franklins and Black's is sooo good
Yes!! The jalapeño cheese sausage from Czech Stop in West, just north of Waco, Texas is hands down my favorite sausage anywhere.
Wisconsin also has a huge beer and sausage industry due to the German immigrants.
Texas is definitely on my bucket list
I’ve been blessed to eat Texas BBQ and this video just gives me so much joy.
It’s so good. I have not been to this particular restaurant, but The Salt Lick outside of Austin has such amazing BBQ. I miss Texas bbq!
