    Maybe something to add:
    - 14700K might be the smarter choice for gaming if you want to go Intel - especially in simracing the higher core count doesn't really help at all
    - AMD USB issues seems to be mostly solved for 7000 series
    - AMD will also benefit from faster RAM, but anything over 6400 MHz is pretty much wasted money

Not a direct comparison, but I had to RMA the 13900k that I had for a year in my sim rig... while waiting I replaced it with a 14700k. it outperforms the 13900k in almost every aspect that I had tested the 13900k in previously, needless to say it's still in there and the replacement 13900 has been relegated to the shelf. As far as price vs performance on the Intel side 14700 is probably the way to go like you mention.

Got a 7800X3D a few weeks ago, paired with a Aorus X670 Elite AX board and 64 gigs of the same ram you used in the video (G.Skill 6000 @ CL-30), using a Gigabyte 4090 gaming oc also. I am blown away by this new setup, yes, I had the 4090 before with a 5900x, but man oh man, this 7800X3D is impressive to say the least. Pretty much all my sims run smoother, even AC, rFactor 2, R3E and AMS2, also MSFS-2020 runs really well on this setup.

Downscaling will look terrible. 1440p on a native panel looks nice, on a 4k panel however, 1440p looks terrible because not all the pixels are lit and this causes the overall quality to be substantially less. Whatever resolution you are targeting, get a panel specific for that use case.

The 7800x3d's 3dcache is able to get the frames and simulations processed quicker to send to the GPU. That's simply all it is.
It's AMDs smoking gun and quite a gun it is.
The 7950x3d is weird. It actually runs slower if you allow it to use all of its cores. You actually need to shut off one of its sections because it tries to split the 3dcache.
GamersNexus had a great video on this CPU and the weird issues it runs into. It's great in all core workloads like blender, but for most gaming where it's 1-4 cores (usually), it is worse than the 7800x3d "usually".

Hello Dan! Thank you for the review. I would like to ask you if before conducting the test battery, you performed a stability test on the DDR5 RAM (7800CL36). Unfortunately, the XMP profiles and memory controllers from Intel and AMD for DDR5 have erratic behaviors, and even if the memory kits are on the motherboard manufacturer’s QVL, that doesn’t guarantee at all that simply configuring that profile will be stable. It would be good if you could run tests to ensure stability for at least 12-24 hours, like stress tests such as Karhu or several hours of y-cruncher VST. It’s very likely that such disparate results are due to a lack of stability.
    Best,
    Miguel

According to other tests, Intel at least has considerably less energy consumption on idle than AMD, so the total energy costs are likely lower depending on your usage. Probably nobody is buying a CPU like that for low idle consumption, but with my rather low percentage of gaming compare to lighter tasks, I certainly can't justify a switch to AMD for energy saving.
