I guess you are back in the USA with your family after spending the summer in wet hot dry germany cause that is the summary of that summer - from a solar power roof designer. And therefore I kindly like to remind you about an Update of the whole Tesla Solar Roof series I really liked cause it shows the tech and procedures from the administrative part as a customer to the moments where the things started , throwing the old roof in the trash and solar power preparation to the first shingles and these metal shingles to fill the unused spots.
I like the whole story and the aftermath videos which are the usual stuff cause it is at the end not rocket science but takes a lot to get it done perfect , I mean the whole solar system.
But that would require a lot of knowledge transfer which you were able to tell afterwards like the string / mppt thing and roofs. I also had seen a lot of these shadow throwers trouble makers, these pipes and what not which would make a usual solar guy crazy in case he wants to use big panel cause that would be the biggest mess on your kind of roof to find the perfect size or set of sizes to use it the most.
Obviously it can not deliver 7,8 kW which I bet they never had promised. It is most likely the amount of power installed in kWp or the inverter output, but that means nothing cause the pitch, orientation and shadows are determing what you might get out of a system. So many complain that their system is not good or not delivering even though it is. You had also gotten the key message from someone else to work on your roof outlets / pipes and get it cleaned up to benefit more from it which rarely happens. The realisation usually comes later or too late while the work on site is going on and someone will mention that like a "get rid off the pipes and clean it, cause you can make money with a clean roof, but not from shadow causing pipes and chimneys in every third tile.
Therefore I would love to see a 3 year result summary, how that garage upgrade had worked out or if you might have gone for a different solution like panels - which never would have make sense except for comparison, cause tesla referalls would bring you far more than any other option cause tesla is the only country wide operating installer I guess where you had done already all the videos and steps.
Maybe you do a simple and short summary of the results, observations, the post honeymoon depression about things that work not out as expected or faults and so on, not such big one as in the past. Good luck and happy new year - from germany.

I think that's about right. I also don't think this is going to be nothing more than "helpful tools". The goal is to replace as many people as possible to maximize profits and minimize expense. They will come up with something for prompt based editing just like everything else computerized is becoming. This is also hitting me as a musician who writes commercial music for media and my regular job as an analyst. I'm running out of options!
The problem is that techies and business people don't understand creatives. They only look at the tech and how to find ways to automate and earn profits with no concern over human creativity. We enjoy experimentation and manipulation. We don't want to just type a prompt and have the computer do everything. We want to be "physical" and take pride in what we were able to accomplish, not what a computer can accomplish.
At some point, I think Ai will be able to analyze successful films, learn the edits that work for the type of film and emotional cues that have worked in the past and eventually have the ability to innovate. So, I'm not optimistic. The sad thing is that this is totally unnecessary for any purpose other than making profits. It won't help mankind, stop climate change, solve medical mysteries, create world peace, etc. We never needed AI for creative endeavors for any reason other than to help with menial tasks that allow us to work faster. Replacing us only helps a production company's bottom line.

I recently tried out Autopod, the podcast editing AI plugin, that's been making rounds on all socials. It's good for when multiple people are talking over each other as it makes cuts whenever an audio track is active, but it doesn't cut out the "ums" or silence that I was hoping it would do. I'm sure AI video editing can give us very rough passes, but it's not gonna to replace quality anytime soon, I hope. 🤞

    • @AxTechs
      @AxTechs 11 месяцев назад +1

The thing is, autopod isn't even an ai tool, it's simply analysing where the silence is depending on the track and cutting accordingly without the use of machine learning. All an AI system needs to cut out the "ums" is reference to how that sounds like, and you're done. Pair that with what adobe is releasing with firefly (later this year from what I've heard) where it can add B-Roll to an audio track accurately and with the music, and boom half the podcast editing jobs are gone because unfortunately you don't really need much more than that. Just what I've been thinking, and yeah it's pessimistic but expecting the worst and it not happening is better imo than expecting the best and everything completely exploding lol

It's probably going to become more competitive in the future because I have a strong feeling that AI will soon erase the need for assistant editors which will make it harder to get into the business. It's scary, I think, because even without AI many movies become formulaic due to the creative process being standardized and faster-paced and even with an editor and a director present to oversee it, there is a risk that a movie misses potential when it's not thoroughly viewed through a human's eyes. But it's interesting to see where it will go!

    • @zedekai9456
      @zedekai9456 11 месяцев назад +7

That's true, but perhaps there will simultaneously be more creativity allowed in many projects because of the speed up of the existing process.
It's currently all just really really really good pattern recognition (our CNSs aren't only that), so until AI (and we) can actually understand how we think and see the world, it will consistently make some average percentage of bad choices. Context and culture are infinite, and you cannot train on all the FINITE data we have anyhow. It's almost magic what it can do with the current, relatively limited datasets they get. (I'm glad we moved past knowlege engineering!) Also, current AI models will only recognise new once trained on it. A lot.
Digital cameras, and VHS tape recorders before that lowered the bar of entry, and a lot more bad content was created. But more good content too. It helped beginners learn by trying, and allowed pros to try more things with less money.
Perhaps I'm naive, but I think AI will do the same; Help beginners learn by trying, and allow pros to try more things with less money.
RUclips allowed for publishing more bad work, but also more good (+TikTok, vine etc). Mass prodcution, more bad, also more good. CGI vs practical effects, more bad also more good. (Popular opinion, practical effects + cgi touchup is (often) better than fully CGI. AI editing will imo be the same.)
But for most non-low effort content that requires at least a little quality, I think assistant editors will still be needed to proof the AI rough cuts, and even have more time and room to be creative and pass more potential ideas to leads.
Things will shift, but probably won't crumble
      p.s.
I have zero expertise in ecenomics, or the editing industry. I've also only been working in comp sci for under 2 years as a non-AI SoftEng, and only have a bach. So defintiely file this under wild speculation of truly under-informed overly-optimisitc stranger on the internet.

The other effect of that was that recording things was devalued. Which makes sense - it is a market, there is limited demand and therefore the prices drop. It does however mean, that there will be fewer bread-and-butter jobs which would allow following artistic endeavours.
"But for most non-low effort content that requires at least a little quality, I think assistant editors will still be needed to proof the AI rough cuts"
Which means one assistant can do the work of several. The phases of work, where it comes to trying out stuff, are taken away in favor of more productivity - for somebody else.

Like fiincher said, if the audience knows you can do anything in film because the technology has gotten so good the question no becomes what don't you do. Creativity in the future is going to be highly in tune with instinct more than skill nd that is a verry good thing. The concept of Collage was practically born when digital tech was infused into the art making process, that opened doors to a new kind of artistic form that is very ferociously instinctual and unique, ai is going to expand our ability to collage faster across various mediums.

Until an AI has been born, made friends, been hurt, felt joy, felt pain, love, dealt with humans and human emotion, it will never be able to evoke emotion in a viewer. Same goes for Ai creating music or any artistic medium. There's more to art than the mechanical steps that need to be executed.

I have trouble understanding the concept of AI replacing everything. If it does it eliminates the assets needed for R&D. R&D is AI’s food.
Also, people keep talking about AI like it is simply new tech. When in reality the technological shift is equivalent to the wheel or forging steel or the atomic bomb.
There is a lot regulation that is coming for this stuff which is why I have been afraid to incorporate too much of it into my creative workflow.
When I see AI art, photos and film clips I still see too many shades of other things. AI copyright tools will catch all of this and if you generate a script in GTP4 and infringements are found in the future you are screwed.
With that said, I say jump all in and learn this stuff but the reality is that the vast majority of time spent editing is determining anticipation and reaction. Unless singularity becomes a real thing I have a hard time seeing that kind of AI capability in the near future.
    Another good point someone made.
Did we even ask for this stuff? Call me an OG but I feel AI art and music should be banned outright.

On the other hand, there is the possibility that a lot more content will be created. When our ancestors invented the plow, they didn't go on a vacation having to work less, they just made bigger crops with the same amount of people working (basically). It's called the Rebound effect and I heard that that was basically the essence of the exponential growth of the human civilisation for the last 10 000 years.
You say producers are thinking "we can make the same amount of content 80 cheaper !" But maybe they'll say "For the same amount of money we were spending so far, we can create 80% more content !" (80% is an example)
Then the problem is not IA it's capitalism lol

Human editing will be the same as it has always been “choosing what you want.” You just won’t have to do the mechanical work. The interface will get out of your way and “taste” will reign supreme.
