- Enjoy learning about an inspirational under construction Off-grid Earthship with Tristan and Shiner Pantling.
Earthships, use the power of the sun to heat and cool the house and are most often built out of recycled materials. In this instance the earthship is being built to the required Australian standards and therefore offers insight into how to complete a project such as this whilst adhering to the codes.
Their vision, passion and energy for the project are contagious and this video will offer the viewer significant insight into the construction of a modern earthship.
“It’s so nice here” (slaps away flies every 5 seconds)
I was just going to comment on that, and I'm on the east coast with lots of cattle, chooks, dogs, rabbits, roos and anything else that poos!
You need some Dung Beetles; but will they survive in that climate. Probably like the heat, maybe.? Anyone know?
They need that hat that’s got a bunch of corks on strings.
Tremendous structure. I love the steel support structure. We built a pseudo-earthship in Colorado in the US, using tire bales instead of rammed earth. Same principal though. We couldn't do the Euro style, with the double-glass layers, because of local codes regarding fire egresses. Unlike your Building codes, ours would not consider the front area, between the glass, as outdoors. Because we only had small awning windows, and no egress windows in the bedrooms, the Building Department insisted that the bedrooms be totally open (no doors), on the ends. That way the East and West doors were considered the fire egresses. Once we got our Occupancy permit, we installed arch doorways, and moved a bedroom to the middle, where we wanted it. Your place looks great! You've got the lion's share done, but there is still a lot of conventional construction to do! Hang in there!
great video. please make a nother video when it is complete.
Great Ship, great couple! Please continue having fun.
Hahahaha that fly was like get out of my earthship lol in the beginning
would love to see this completed.

im glad u gave a shout out to "Garbage Warrior" . most ppl don't seem to care about the fight against corruption. and or the search for solutions to the corruption. the real prob is, that the ppl who fight that kind of system are individuals wh struggle with trusting ppl. so uniting to beat it seems impossible.
- educate, unite and support ur neighbors.
Thanks for this, really enjoyed the program. We're looking at options in building a large off the grid construction on forty acres in New Zealand. it's almost past two years since you filmed this, would really love to see another video of the end result. Cheers.
Me too. I’d love to see this place completed.
Yes an update would be great!
Awesome video! As an aussie engineering student i'm looking forward to designing my own earthship one day.
you can build me one too
God damn flies r outta control
This is such a beautiful Earthship! Congratulations!
They got the Dog looking like wile E coyote trying to catch the roadrunner😂
😆 True that!
Awesome I want to build one in Victoria… respect to Mike Reynolds
LOVE this earthship. My hubby and I are interested in steel instead of wood as well.
What a great idea I built my own off grid system ( although much smaller ) on our caravan and it works really well ..Peter n Helen living on Greenhead Caravan park
Be awesome to see how this turned out!!
Love the dog.
Any possibility of linking to your drawings? Mainly would like to see sizes of planters and how the systems for recycling work.
This is an outstanding build, one I would want to do as a builder that is not so unorthodox looking.
I hope you do follow up videos as the project develops!
We will look to revisit at a more advanced stage of the project. In the meantime, any updates can be followed at Tristan Pantling channel.
@@offgridearth567 wonderful! I wish you all the best. Hope you're safe from the fires!
@Off Grid Earth love your video. Do you recommend any literature to start due diligence in planning for off the grid living.
@@offgridearth567 Please Revisit cos this couple and video is Top Notch!
ruclips.net/channel/UCMwHXojzTa4_vwp0nmv02xg Looks like they're doing updates here
Thanks Damien, great work
no seriously great work by you guys and it is advancing further! Cant wait till the glass is in...
Amazing stuff. Looks great 👍
They have their own channel! It's not much, but some. EARTHSHIP JURIEN BAY WA
i cut it six times and its still too short .... lmao
im of grid without money. its been almost 4 years now. my advice to ne1 doing an off grid journey is ... have money first and plan, plan then plan again. its not an easy life and it takes time. character building, for certain. but also make sure u have lots of redundancies. i live in the bc mountains far from local hardware stores. so running out of materials or missing tools becomes a long journey. i don't have neighbors to rely on for help (alone) , so something as that's a simple as with 2 ppl becomes an all day venture with more risk.
too bad that ppl don't stand up against am unlawful corrupt governance, that takes a false authority over us the ppl, the true governments. asking for permits says that we need there permission but we pay there wages. we are there boss. so, educate, unite and support ur neighbor.
ty 4 ur vid
ps. i wish someone would do an earthship build answering all the steps and why questions. otherwise it just seems like an add to make money. just another part of the prob we are all fighting or at least some of us.
Beautiful story. You guys are awesome
Nice digs mate! I was wondering how many flies does an Aussie eat in a day? The only thing I didn't care for on my visit down under.
Wow this is awesome
I have a house in Perth, Western Australia, built using conventional building materials (brick and tile) which requires no mechanical heating or cooling. It's all about getting the design details right. I can only imagine that all that sun-exposed glass is going to let an enormous amount of summer heat into the building. However, I guess it could always be protected with some shade cloth if needed.
Does your place have very thick walls? Lots of insulation? How does it cool?
Awesome, is there a updated progress video ?
We certainly intend to do a follow up. It has been difficult to allocate a time to get to Western Australia, but it is definitely in the list!!
😂 they flies and waving the off has me doing it watching 🤣🤣🤣
I'm on my second Earth home build, I'm in South Carolina instead of New Mexico this time, and the humidity and the mosquitoes OMG no bueno and this fly problem reminds me of these mosquitoes here.
I have plans for indoor outdoor connected ponds for all the bugs, I plan on enjoying my outdoor space and I declare war on the bugs that annoys or is a problem...
Wow this was amazing. Any chance of showing the finished product with the banana tree in the greenhouse?
They need hat with corks on strings for the flies.
I sense animosity between the two people with glasses. Am I buggin ?
🙏🏼
Was getting the feel these guys had the vibe then allan watts came in, ahhhh
To stop the fly's a good idea is to cook hot chilly in olive oil, let it cool off, after rub it on the skin away from the ayes.
😆
Maybe you could do an update on this home to see how the progress is coming along.
They have there own You Tube channel
Is there an update on this place?
These people add a couple small wind turbines to the mix and they will not worry about power at night.
How would you keep the spiders and such out, with the air vents?
You place a screen at both ends of the pipes , on the inside you place a box cover. That can be open and closed , for your control of comfort
is there an update on this video? like a recent video once finished? thanks
Finding it a bit tricky to get back to WA to do a follow up. The house is finished and producing food and will be ripe for an update by the time we get back. I cant confirm when exactly, but it is on the agenda.
Who forgot the Aeroguard?
How do you grow bananas or any fruit trees with extensive root systems in such shallow planters?
With such a high nutrient and water content its feasible that large plants could thrive with only a shallow base root system. A bit bonsai-ish perhaps...
@@offgridearth567 Where do the high nutrients come from?
Are the flies that bad there?
Nar this is a good day. They can get that bad you can't breathe in with out inhaling 20 flys...
Any updated video on this?
We hope to do a follow up on the completed project first half 2023. It was an issue being able to enter WA for a long time.
You need to do an update!! ... Please?
Where’s the update on this build?
I would love to see the finished build too. Obviously those complaining it is not 100% recycled materials have never dealt with Australian standards. It is going to look great and I can't wait to see it!
Was it flies❓
Or something or someone Farting❓😝
........
Ok...spoke too soon.
I can see the flies now.
EARTHSHIP JURIEN BAY WA for updates.
i can see the raiders invading this house by using the rocks to smash the house to gain entry, theyll make some sort of diy catapult
dude cut out the B-roll Music when people are TALKING
That ain’t a earth ship
so wierd and almost too industrial and cold to see this version of an earthship, with all the steel beams were u normally have earth/tieres and wood instead :/ and that steel isnt locally aswell i bet, like import, were as your land is surrounded with al sand for earth pillars/walls, and tieres around your property and such.. anyhows, its just my observation, its not ment as a form of "hate" on you guys, hopefully you dont take it as that or others in the comments that follows
welcome to Aussie building regulations
I watched the video and it seems like they stuck their strengths as well. They seem like they were good with metal work and welding and they learned how to do a 120 degree bend on they coragated steel.
Steel is definitely local. Australia is a a huge slab of ore, hence the red colour of the outback. Also fire and other building codes won't permit wood in a structure like this. Heavy risk of termite attack in Australia also.
Looks like fly heaven! Image cooking up a feed and having 20 million blowies dive bombing ya! Yep you would need a rhythm Swating the buggers away, give me a small fly proof home for my money anyway! Wack up $50000 of solar and live in comfort, just the cost of glass would be $100,000 it makes no sense lol
Wonder how it’s looks now
Earthship should be built with natural materials, here everything is built with Metal, tin; even walls, with cement and concrete. which can be built with earth for cheap and 1/10 of this cost. This is expensive Earthship and not natural.
The problem is the building codes , the town has put in place . If you follow there you tube channel , can learn more on the w5 .
@@marytyson6376 i know Australian construction rules and regulations, but it should restrict only to town planning, not enforce remote isolated dwellings built by self sufficient off grid communities. Its all to support to corporate who fund ministers at election time so Govt can control people life imposing such rules. Will Govt and corporate feed if people hungry?
Code getting in the way of sense. SMH
It's not really an earthship- there's too much steel
No way man. Survival requires fresh running water. Without it all things die. To me this place is a horror.
Boooooooring!
