I agree whole heartedly about facing your house north ( southern hemispere), BUT, looking at an arial view of your house on the block, it appears you've taken it to the ' letter of the law'. If you initially got advice from an electrician, he would probably advise to keep the house parrallel to the kerb as any power savings lost by being a bit off north would be so insignificant( I'm talking cents / I'm talking 0.0001 % less in power collection, if you just put it square on the block ( I'm a carpenter), because it's so close to north it's not worth putting your house askew to be true north. As it is ,you've restricted easy access to the rear yard. It would have looked so much nicer if the house was square to block ( in this instance, because it's so close to facing north). In short, you've stuffed it ( aesthetically), for 0.0001% gain. On a different note, I see houses being built today eg : on a 5 acre block and they face the house to the road AND IT'S FACING EAST ... OR WEST !!! so dumb, ( it's the "let's face the house toward the road mentallity- old school thinking"), when they had all that room to actually face it true north. So, even in these environmentally conscience times, facing a building northward,is still not on many peoples radar. Also , shame on councils that approve these DA's that don't have house facing / or close to north as possible and window placements as well. many plans have windows facing east or west, when with a bit of tweaking, they could be faced north.

You are correct. When you live in an Earthship you are in-sync with all of nature. The passing sky, clouds, stars, moon and sun all flow past your home. It and you are aligned with nature. True North is not the same as magnetic North. The streets should have been aligned correctly! Which would benefit every home in the neighborhood.

@@jonwinns6808still, if every street was perfectly facing the proper angle, then every house would be perfectly square
Not really as mother nature intended and would look pretty boring

I’m in the northern hemisphere and my home faces south east. Even with it not being truly south facing, I can tell the difference. Front of house is super warm during winter months as the sun passes low in the sky across most of the front. I actually open my front door on winter days to warm the rest of the house through the glass storm door.
