While I understand the frustration behind your comment, I think calling for a complete collapse of society isn't the solution. Instead of tearing everything down, we should focus on reforming and improving the systems we already have. There’s no guarantee that a total breakdown would lead to anything better, it could actually cause more suffering, chaos, and instability, especially for those who are already struggling the most.

@@MrMHC I understand the fear that comes from thinking about a “collapse of society”. It may be a fearful thought but we must always remember that empires rise and fall every few hundred years, people change, we evolve, we become better. Hanging on to something that is bad for us and the entire planet (capitalism), does more harm than good.

    • @MrMHC

@@troypropes1182 It sounds like you do not understand anything and that the only knowledge you have comes from books. The country I was born in does not even exist anymore. I have lived through the collapse of a single country and watched people suffer and die. And you think it is good for this to happen to a system that is upheld around the world. I do not advocate for capitalism, I am just against the idea of a total collapse of the system. And do you really believe we got better and evolved in these collapses? The degeneracy that existed in ancient Rome still exist today, the killings in the name of religion and crusades still exist today. The greed and wants that ruled over these empire still exist today. These collapses did not do anything. We might have gotten more comfortable, our technology has definitely evolved, lifespan has improved etc. But the core issues that we have today, survived all these empires that collapsed.

I have 3 kids and back in my country, we had a phrase: parents, if you want grandkids, buy your kids an apartment. This is so true. Now I have to live in a rental apartment for a number of reasons (war) and my kids are running through tons of stress. There is a chance that this stress will likely avert them from having their own kids at all.
The financial burden that people had to carry in their fertile age is the reason no one wants to have kids. If parents wouldn't be able to ease the situation, there will be no grandkids.

If I could do it over I would live a lower class life style like we do now to get my health back. I’m now driving the newest car and truck. Plenty of people having kids who really shouldn't, and I recognized that I was one of the people who shouldn't be a parent, because my heart simply wasn't in it to do so. I applaud those who can do it successfully. It is difficult work. My wife and I have been married for 20 years with no kids (but nieces and nephews on both sides) and are on track to retire much earlier than average. No regrets.

KIDS? HAH! Gosh no i make 16$/hr and while even with a 600$ child tax benefit payment i couldn't do it. i grew up a single child to a single mother in a low income household and while we were not in poverty, it wasn't an ideal well rounded overall healthy lifestyle to be growing up in. There was little to no money for anything outside the basics really. As much as i'd love to be a father one day, it won't happen without her bringing in a second income.
Honestly I'd be a hypocrite if i didn't at least mention the whole having thoughts about whether or not this is a world i would want to bring a child into. It's an absolute freaking mess in every aspect, every regard, you name it. I wish i was born in 50s-70s MAYBE early 80s, anything after that is fucking ridiculous.

The problem is two fold. People who are in a position in life to be able to provide a wonderful environment for a child to live in decide they would rather chase buying the nicer BMW than go to a Chevy and have a family. The government also seems to prefer if most people are poor and powerless so they incentivize making bad choices. As you said, the least responsible are breeding like crazy because it costs them nothing and gains them governmental social programs. Getting married and having a child is perhaps the most risky thing a man who has value can do. It is completely screwed up and we will see the long term effects of it in the future and it will not be good. We are still riding on the legacy of the post WW2 buzz cut nerds who did things like build a national highway system, reliable power grid, sewage treatment and sanitation, mass food production with safety, etc.

If you do not have much patience and do not genuinely desire to be a loving, responsible, and attentive parent which is a full time job, then do not have kids. Society/media/gov't gives the impression that raising kids is expensive. When they are born and babies they are more expensive, but after they are potty trained and walking they get a little cheaper. Kids do not have to have the latest fashions or new clothes, get clothes for next to nothing at yard sales. They do not need to be rushed to the doctor every time they get a runny nose, let them play in the dirt outside, it will build up their immune systems. Don't buy them techno/electric toys, it robs them of being creative. THey need to play outside with other kids and pets. If the mother and father are not both going to be in the same home with the child for the long haul- then do not have kids. Kids need both of their parents. Teach them how to "help you with the chores," it will instill a willingness to help and teach them to work. Teach them life skills early: how to do laundry, cook, clean, wash dishes, plant a garden, first aid, how to fish/hunt, budgeting, how to service a vehicle, camping skills, how to be a good neighbor, etc. Raise them to be honest and straightforward people with integrity and self confidence.

I choose not to have children because this world is deeply flawed, and society is riddled with mental illness, violence, and chaos. Bringing a child into this dystopian reality feels selfish, as many people have children out of fear of loneliness or the desire to be cared for in old age. Why should I bring someone into a world where they will face the same suffering and hardships I have endured? The constant wars, societal decay, and uncertain future make it cruel to impose life on another person. Out of genuine love, I refuse to make someone else endure this broken world.
Being child-free is a choice rooted in strong, often personal, convictions. Here are some key viewpoints:
Autonomy and Freedom: Choosing not to have children allows individuals greater control over their time, energy, and life choices. This freedom fosters self-growth, travel, career, and personal fulfillment without the lifelong responsibilities of parenting.
Environmental Impact: Many child-free individuals argue that choosing not to have children is an ethical stance in light of overpopulation and the strain on Earth's resources. It’s seen as a way to reduce one’s ecological footprint and help protect the environment.
Avoiding Suffering: Life is filled with struggles-financial instability, societal pressures, mental health issues, and a world marked by violence and uncertainty. Child-free advocates believe it’s compassionate to spare potential children from experiencing inevitable hardships.
Economic and Lifestyle Choices: Raising children is expensive, often limiting personal aspirations and financial freedom. Choosing to be child-free can provide more opportunities for financial security, investments, and flexibility in lifestyle choices.
Rejecting Societal Expectations: Many child-free people resist the societal narrative that parenthood is a natural or necessary part of life. Instead, they value defining their own purpose outside of traditional roles, advocating for the acceptance of diverse life paths.
This choice is often seen as empowering and rooted in self-awareness, responsibility, and ethical considerations.

If you want kids, its expensive and difficult. Its an 18 yr commitment and there are no do overs. Very difficult, lots of work, responsibility, and accountability. Wanting kids should never be a impulsive decision.
Having said that, STOP blaming the economy, lack of money, the gov for not wanting or having kids!! So many excuses to avoid responsibility.
Ask yourself this.. Were your grandparents/great grandparents ready for kids during WWII and the depression? How about the industrial age or the dark ages or the medieval age??? How about the people that were in servitude throughout the history of humanity... were they ready for kids?
"A small 2 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment" was the shit (above average) just 30 yrs ago. Hell, in the early 80's houses were 2 bedroom 1 bath. Ask a family living in Ethiopia, in their hut without electricity or water if they are finically ready for the 4 + kids they have?
Guess what, the poorest nations (nations we call 3rd world countries), have the largest birth rate. BUT... here in the US we are so financially poor that we require a 3 bedroom 2 bath apartment, a career with a six figure income, and at least $200k in savings all before the age of 25 before we consider having kids.
What bullshit. Our expectations are so F'd up. Nothing but excuses and blame. Its the economies fault, its societies fault, its the gov. fault, its the cultures fault, its the boomers fault. I/we never have enough... WAAAGH.

32M with two children and doing well. No bills, no debt, saving money, still buying things. Got money saved for a house, just need to find a place that's not an insanely overpriced shithole. To rock this lifestyle even through the storms of life, you will absolutely need a traditional rock-solid wife/family structure that takes a commitment and selflessness (super rare to find). Be smart with your money, do free things together.
One major hurdle is: the vast majority of modern people are so damn fundamentally broken in every way while disconnected from basic values, that the family structure is unattainable regardless of finances/ financial times. I might have a shitty shed on top of a boulder today, but all the surrounding mansions build on sand will wash away in the storms of life.

I'm in the UK, on a mortgage they usually lend to a ratio of 4.5 your salary. The average house is £282,000. You pretty much need a 5% minimum deposit which in this case is £14,100 which means I would need a salary of £59,533. The average pushes the wages up as it includes millionaires/billionaires and that salary is £34,963

As a millennial, I never wanted kids then and I still don't want any. It has nothing to do with money or my career I just don't want kids. I decided a long time ago and I will not change my mind. No one should be bullied let alone berated into having a child they don't want.

    • @GAFB1122

No one is bullying you BUT when a person uses excuses like they can't afford kids, that is a cop out. These YOUNGER people act like no one who came before them ever had problems. It baffles me how naive and uninformed young people are. Here is something funny. In the last 20 years young people have insisted on making up names for things that have been around forever. But I guess it was to be expected. Millenials and Gen Z are the first generations to have their entire life documented in photos and video.

Quiet quitting. I mean what the blank. I knew people who were "quiet quitting" when millenials or Gen Z were in diapers. But leave it to young people to think they were the first to discover it.

Divorce is sad. But if two people come into a marriage with nothing THEN everything they built they built together. Furthermore, if it is agreed that one spouse will stay at home which will negatively affect that spouse's earning potential should a divorce happen, then that spouse needs to be properly compensated. DID YOU NOTICE I am not attaching man or woman to that, and I am just using the word spouse.
