BanditoHAHA yeah really liked the tone, the details and deferring to better tutorials when it came to more delicate part (soldering) while still giving basic lessons he learned as a newbie I think we need more of those, over clocking could be a good place, it can be as simple or as complex as they feel they can go and a lot of material they can refer to for people who want to dive deeper. If they do as well as this one it could be a good introduction for people who feel daunted by it Anyway keep doing whatever you did there the verge it’s a very good step for people who usually just buy consumer electronics and what to just understand how they could dive deeper for custom hardware
@@easterdm well we dont know what stabs he used, but generally the best course of action is buying decent stabilizers in the first place. Most importantly though, lubing with a thicker lubricant like krytox 205g0 or dialectric grease. He did mention a lot of people like to do some other modifications, things like clipping stabilizers, "band-aid" modding them can change the sound and feel. But the most important thing for removing rattle like that space bar has is buying decent stabilizers and lubricating them with a grease lubricant

@@jannclaudebinoya You can't easily do that on the KBD75. I still use my KBD75 V1 (Mini-USB) but soldering a USB-C port onto it is not easily doable. Still Mini-USB is just fine. There aren't as many cables you can get with a USB-C connector but it's alright.

There are something that I think I should point out: - what's supposed to be Topre switch in the video, is actually Mecha-membrane switch - in the subtitles, it's not "ten-kilos", it's "tenkeyless" - there are also wooden cases as well - if you have the time, please lube your stabs, just to make the typing demonstration sound better otherwise, this is an absolutely excellent video about custom keyboards from a channel like The Verge, I really like how you mentioned some of the less known aspects of mechanical keyboards
For the stabilizers: doing a "band aid mod" as well as lubing and clipping them will only take a few minutes and makes an enormous difference. There are tons of tutorials. Lubing switches is really time consuming but makes them sound more rich and deep and feel a lot smoother!
To see someone new making their own, unique custom keyboard is astonishing. I don't know how to describe the feeling but it feels great to know that someone new has just joined the custom keybaord community. Been using my custom keyboard for a year now, and its great! Lubed Gateron Red, Sakura Keycaps from Akko and also custom spray on the case that was originally black to pink and white. Welcome to the community.
Tips for any people who are interested. 1.) lube you're stabilizers and switches if possible (never over lube). The sound and feel will instantly become better if done correctly. 2.) If you're looking for something fairly priced, go with KBDFans and pay for expedited shipping it's worth it. 3.) once again lube 4.) did I mention lubing?

mambo you have to lube the springs inside the switches. That’s more important than anything else. Those are what produce the dreaded, god-awful, makes you want to jump out of a window ping noises.
kudos for mentioning buck spring, alps, and torpes. Usually video like this give the people the impression that cherry like switches is the only thing that exists lol.

My perfect "endgame" keyboard is one that is universally modular with any and all switches, only requiring you to buy a new board of the same make and model in the event that it breaks.
Currently rocking a 65% Tada68, black brushed aluminum chassis with Zelios 67g switch, DSA profile Pulse Keycap set, Custom braided midnight black and teal cable with XLR connector . This has been my endgame for the last 2+ years
As someone who's been into mechs for a couple years now, this is actually a really impressive video that goes really in-depth especially for people getting into the hobby. Great job verge. You did yourself good
Something that i recommend and which is pretty obvious, but is to sit down and have a full(complete) idea of what you wanna do on that keyboard when assembling. Especially if you're not planning on opening it again to modify something for pure aesthetic or convenience matter.
I built my first(current) keyboard from scratch. It wasn't too hard actually, I just took apart a cheap mechanical keyboard(cheaper than buying the switches and key caps separately), mounted them in my fully custom acrylic base plate(designed in keyboard-layout-editor.com), soldered on diodes in rows and a piece of wire for the columns and wired it all up to a teensy mcu and used EasyAVR to program it and customize the keyboard layout. It took a lot of hard work, but in the end it works really well and still does, 1 year later
5:53 - I am no health and safety expert, but from what I heard you should never-ever breathe in soldering fumes, and always solder in a well ventilated environment
I mean you're probably more likely to do damage to your lungs walking around New York City or London and breathing in those fumes than from a bit of solder being melted.

I would suggest lubing all of the switches because it makes them feel and sound much better. I would also suggest clipping the stabs to get rid of the rattle in the space bar. However, this was really good!

There's no point in getting a USB-C port on the PCB other than for cable compatibility. The benefits of USB-C can't be utilized in something like a keyboard that is just meant for typing. And given the fact that keyboards generally spend their lifetime stationary on a desk, it's not as big of a deal as say, a laptop or a smartphone without USB-C
@@rousseau327 actually a lot of enthusiasts like USB c as they change their keyboards out often. They can use the same cable for every board and not worry about switching cables. Also the orientation of the cable does not matter. I just watched a video on the upcoming Vortex Poker IV and 80 percent of the comments are about "not gonna buy this board if it is still micro USB".

Advice: pay attention to the Capslock key orientation. It's upside down. When doing soldering I prefer to insert one component, solder it, then move on to the next one. If you insert all the components into the PCB like in the video, and flip the PCB over to solder them, some of them might fall out, or worse, just dislocate resulting in uneven component placement. Good job.

Still Mini-USB is just fine. There aren't as many cables you can get with a USB-C connector but it's alright.
My Nokia N-Gage has a mini USB port and it still works like new.

few years ago i found my endgame, RAMA m60-A. Been using it for almost a year now with no desire to change it. Endgame is real.
Also have a Rama M60-A with Zambumon's GMK Serika caps and Hako Violet switches. Never swtiching. "We're in The Endgame now"
