  • More Caravan Dealers Go Bust. We hadn't noticed that this dealer had gone bust last week so now 3 dealers have gone, but can we buy some of the caravans for sale?
With 2 fairly large dealers going bust so close to each other, does this mean the market will be flooded with stock and bring prices down, this is something that we are watching and also we are trying to buy some of the used caravans for sale from these dealers.
We also have some Caravanning tips along the way and a little caravan dealer update on the caravan market.
For all our used caravans for sale visit www.thecaravan...

I don't really think campsite prices are the main problem. During Covid and everyone needing to holiday locally, sales of caravans went through the roof, so much so that second hand caravans were disappearing off forecourts in a flash. We were offered more for our 2018 Swift 560 than we'd paid for it, just because the local dealer was desperate for stock. I believe that there is now a glut of vans due to families returning to holidaying abroad and brought with it a crash in prices. Of course the economy isn't helping with that either.

Prices are coming down and if you look close at the dealerships that have gone bust they rely on the sales of new vans.
People are so strapped for cash they can't afford to upgrade to new.

    • @thecaravanplace

Most likely pot holes, it's normally areas over the wheels, the shock from the roads sometimes pulls the screws out the wall and then gives a little. It shouldn't cause any major problems. 👍

Possibly the unit has exceeded its service life, dust inside (some of the alarms can be vacuum cleaned), incompatible batteries (some alarms are very sensitive to brand/flavour etc), moisture and aerosols can also upset them. (Caravan/Motorhome Technician)

A good guide is 40bhp per ton (combined weight car and caravan) and 60lb/ft torque. The manual with your Tucson will tell you what the max towing weight of the car is. I towed an Eriba 1300kg MPTLM with a 1.6L diesel VW Golf (remapped) and now tow itwith an Audi Q3 1.5L petrol which is much better. So no, you don't necassarily need a 2 litre engine.

Depend on the weight of the caravan but I’d rather be in something like a Nissan Xtrail which is designed to pull a caravan. And definitely a diesel for torque.

If you check your v5 for Max braked trailer weight, this is the maximum legal towing weight. But you also don't want to exceed the mass in service weight, this Is the empty weight of your car. A good guide is about 85% of the braked trailer weight, this should sit just under the mass in service weight. Hope this helps. 👍

That's ridiculous. Can't park a caravan on your drive but your neighbour can park a Transit van with adverts for his construction/plumbing/electrician's business!
I'd NEVER buy a house with such restrictive covenants attached. Some of them may be no longer enforceable anyway, being long out of date or no longer protecting an interest that was relevant when the estate was built etc and therefore subject to an application to remove the restriction. 😅

It's a difficult one as even different variants of a model will have different towing weights. The Caravan club do a tow car of the year and this can be useful to find different towing weights 👍
