    • @ladytanuki
      @ladytanuki 8 лет назад +8

      Probably not on this list because those technically *did* exist way back in the arcade days. You have to keep putting coins into the machine to keep playing... but then again, you don't have to pay 60 bucks up front for the game either.

    • @binarybus11000

      +ladytanuki you make a good point about adding quarters to an arcade game. However, it's still not the same, or at least in my opinion, as buying in-game currency and accelerators. Arcades were something you did at Pizza Hut. Now, the PS4 and XBox in your living room wants you to buy season passes and crap like that. It's out of control.

    #11: NO Internet Requirement! No servers to worry about going down. Games from 30+ years ago can still be played, yet there are games from PS3 era that are no longer playable b/c they required internet and their servers are down. Yet, if I wanted to, I could still play Pong on the Atari 2600 with no problem....Some games of this modern day require internet that SHOULDN'T.....Need for Speed 2015 and The Crew are two examples. Online should be an OPTION for these games

    • @relic374
      @relic374 3 года назад

      @🚀Kalle🚀 A cheat code is a code you enter in with the controller to give you advantages. Microtransactions are a way to suck money that shouldn't be considered cheat codes. When you said "not really" that made me think that you thought Ritter was being genuine even though he wasn't. The way he says "just called" shows that, instead of saying like, "Microtransactions are new cheat codes." Cheat codes aren't a bad thing, but microtransactions are. @Schwarzer Ritter can you just tell us if you were being sarcastic or genuine? I might be wrong, but the way he said it just looks like it is sarcasm. Sorry if I'm wrong we are just humans.

    • @relic374
      @relic374 3 года назад

      @🚀Kalle🚀 I did read your comment, and I'm just saying, that RITTER was saying that sarcastically. You can think what you want, whatever is your opinion, but I was saying that Schwarzer Ritter was saying that microtransactions are equal to cheat codes, even though his opinion is (probably because of the sarcasm) the opposite of that. You have made it apparent that that is not YOUR opinion, but it IS Ritter and my opinion. (Also thanks this has actually helped me with debate skills and I want to be in the debate class at my school.)

    • @relic374
      @relic374 3 года назад

      @🚀Kalle🚀 I honestly don't care anymore, so let's just leave it at that and say that you have won because I have more important things to do than explain to someone why microtransactions aren't cheat codes.
      I'm shure most people are smart enough to agree with me.

I think mario kart double dash is the best local player game i ha fun with.

      Except Super Smash Bros. That is the only modern game that feels like I am playing something from the nineties that is far ahead of its time. The remixed music, roster, original music, 2D characters recreated in 3D. Honestly, I hate how the guy who made the series is probably the one guy at Nintendo that has very strange opinions.
      Admittedly, he understood some of this video, as he did not want people to share TSE on RUclips and instead wanted gamers to experience it for themselves like the old days. But, thing is, everyone loved it and I feel the cut was unnecessary for the next entry to even have to deal with at all.
      Oh, and let us not forget how, thanks to Nintendo screwing themselves over with Square Enix, that we could not have characters like Black Mage, Crono and more join the fight. As for Konami, well, they just hate video games by this point so that makes sense.
      Super Smash Bros. The only modern game where I feel every single thing it adds is actually significant.

    5. memerable characters & music
    6. no patches, you got the freak'n game out of the box 100% complete (sometimes).

      You can still have a blast getting demolished and if the game is great it just makes you want to put in that practice and get better. You just have to have a more patient mindset and not expect to win your first few times playing a game. I use save and load states to practice through alot of old games my first time through. Usually after I practice through a game roughly I can beat the game after 1-3 full attempts (exhausting all lives). For harder games I have to practice sections more thoroughly. That tech really opened up old games for me though. Those games like to make you replay the entire game even when youve mastered most of it, so its very inefficient practice. Luckily I can bypass that and beat the games legit, practicing only the parts I need to learn.

    I miss those days of coming home to from school and getting on my Nintendo Entertainment System and just have it. No internet to get through games, But you just played through the game in order to beat it without cheat codes or game genie. Those were simpler times when we could just play without checkpoints. You literally had to play through the whole game. You hope that console will not overheat and blow into the cartridge to make it work. The simple game play and simple game controllers is what made playing video games fun.

      Cartridges weren't 100% fail proof. Like they mentioned, blowing on the cart to clean the contacts before sticking it into the game. That didn't always work. Sometimes a cart just wouldn't work (I found that particularly annoying on the 2nd hand ones I'd picked up at pawn shops. My copy of Activision's "Megamania" was that way. Might start out working perfectly, then after several minutes, the whole screen would start messing up.)
      My Vectrex cartridges actually require me to fold over a playing card, slip it into the bottom of the cartridge slot, then guide the cartridge atop of it forcing it to make contact with the connectors. If I try using it without a card, the cartridge seems to hang down a little and doesn't make a full connection, defaulting to the internal "Mine Storm" game loading up, instead. The card acts as a simple spring to press the contacts together. I've actually thought about trying adhesive-backed felt along the bottom of the cartridge slot and seeing if that does the same thing, but the card trick seems to work well enough for now.
      I don't miss GameCube mini-discs, though. Those sucked so much ass they have a donkey's head sticking out of their mouths. What's the point of investing in a game system if the media you print the games on DOESN'T FREAKIN' WORK HALF OF THE TIME?! Glad they published the Game Boy Player peripheral so people would have games they could actually load AND PLAY on the GameCube. :)

      Online multiplayer is a lot better than going to a said friend's house. I play with my friends too. Just getting 3-4 people over now is a huge hassle. Time consuming as well. When I was a kid this was not a problem. Now that we are all adults no one wants to go over said friend's houses because we don't all live near each other & it's a lot easier to text your friends on a weekend & play for a couple of hours.

  • @Terastas

    Jim Sterling said it best when he said modern game developers believe there are only three games: Clash of Clans, Candy Crush, and Call of Duty.
    Retro games didn't operate under that logic. They didn't want to clone a game's success -- they wanted to either take over the established niche market with a BETTER experience, or they wanted to create their own.
    This is why games like Undertale, Fez and Five Nights At Freddy's outright exploded the way they did: Because they were different. This is why games like Star Citizen, Yooka-Laylee and Mighty No. 9 obliterated their Kickstarter goals. And this is why even some of the shitty indie games out there still have fans: Because even the buggy glitchy boring ones are still at least TRYING to be something besides another FPS shooter or Flappy Birds time waster.

      INFINITE THUMBS UP!!!!!!! Seriously, CoD led to the massive FPS boom which, while some of those games are good, it also led to a massive sea of mediocrity. At the same time, it also started the trend of "putting out a game every year." This leads to two problems: quick over-saturation of the market and other companies trying to follow that model when they cannot do so without the game being mediocre at best.

    Better reasons:
    1. cheaper (provided your not going for rare games/consoles)

    3. doesn't require Internet
    4. no updates or downloads making you wait to play your game
    5. most of the games are better then games today
    6. overall easier
    7. doesn't have a 87 hour tutorial
    8. Nostalgia (only if you grew up with the games, unlike me)
    9. there's games that aren't first person shooters
    10. games and consoles are a breeze to fix

      Also some retro games can be pricey but go for cheaper games first and try finding the pricey ones in thrift stores

      Emulators are useful as a way to test games out to see if you like them... Or just pirate them cuz you know no one wants to sue a random joe to get payment for a 30 year old game.

      Hell ya, that's almost the whole reason I bought a 3DS was to download all the old arcades, NES, SNES, and N64 games.

    I play retro games because they are fun, and simple to play! Getting a chance to beat the game I couldn't before, is the icing on the cake for me!

    Ahh retro gaming. There was 2.5d games, midi music, physical games, low res screens and no *freakin* microtransactions.

    10 best Retro games please

    • @kenansabic2901

      Where are you even supposed to begin with that. There are whole generations of games that are defined as retro with a Santa's list of titles that are all masterpieces of their respective times and genres. You have the old Ataari systems, NES and SNES, Sega Genesis, Saturn, PS 1 and even handhelds like GameBoy and GBA. All with huge libraries which would make it next to impossible to choose only 10.Plus they already made videos on top 10 games of each generation and System.

      That would be nearly impossible since "the best" is practically opinion based and could range in many different ways

      Same here. They ditched local multiplayer in the last Halo game. Wtf kind of decision is that?

    I'm happy I was born in the perfect year to be a gamer. 1979. I was a child for the 2600 and C64's simplicity. A pre-teen for the more complex NES offerings. A teenager for SNES' more mature offerings. I was in highschool for the dawn of the PS1 era of JRPG dominance. And a working man for the PS2 ushering in modern gaming. Now I'm well into my late 30's enjoying The layed back story telling of the modern age (and the gool ol' classic difficulty of Dark Souls games of course ;)

    I had a subscription to Game Genie back in the good old days. I would get a new booklet with Game Genie cheat codes every month and would use them on every Nintendo game I rented for the weekend. Good times.

      The same for me. The only thing that draws me to games in general is to play a story campaign.
      A while back I came to realize that a lot of arcade focused games really couldn't hold my interest any more.

    another reason why retro games are awesome there wasn't any toxic players and no one to tell you how to play games you just played it how you play it.
