Wetherby looks really nice 👌 Another place I KNOW I'll never get to...but I am grateful for your channel James and Helen...for showing it to us. I was also an antiques market trader for many years and your comments about doing markets in bad weather really hit home. Thankyou James and Helen for bringing us a little light hearted happiness amidst all the craziness going on in this country, you lift spirits and do all the things we like to do, Charity shopping, finding old pubs visiting interesting places and showing life isn't all doom and gloom. I love watching your channel xxx
You've done it again ! Another good watch, I haven't visited that little pocket of England around the A1M West of Scarborough / North-East of Leeds but it seems full of lovely traditional English towns from your trips like Ripon, Malton, Knaresborough, Thirsk, Richmond and now Wetherby. That cheese & ham croissant looked awesome ! I've never thought of cutting one open and putting something inside before, I just eat them whole instead of toast for breakfast sometimes. Another useful thing learnt whilst "By The Curb" 🙂
I just want to say A big thank you to HELEN for that wonderful information on the Bingley arms it was very interesting thank you once again, but sadly James didn't help much with his constant sighing and looking bored. 😂😂 Apart from that another brilliant Vlog 👍
I went down town to a new record shop that sells older hits on vinyl, so I went in and asked the young lad behind the counter if he had anything by 'The Doors' ? He said err yes mate, a bucket of sand and two fire extinguishers 😆 Gaz Yorkshire.
You need to stay at Chillingham Castle in Northumbeland, we heard ghosts. I tell you what it would be great content, we hid under the bed covers we were so terrified! Great video as always guys.
I think you and Helen complement each other you're a lovely couple, love watching you both together and I like watching you on you're own don't let people get you down.
Wetherby Whaler did sell the best fish and chips around when Peter Idle owned it years ago. (These days the chips are always undercooked.) The Frying Pan has the better F&C to take out. If you do eat inside at the Whaler ask for your chips to be twice cooked. Unfortunately Wetherby is a shadow of its former self, polluted river, shabby streets and tacky shop signs. It's a blessing that we have all those charity shops filling the empty units. Wetherby is fast becoming the 'Charity Shop Capital of West Yorkshire.' 😀 Thanks for the vid. showing Wetherby in a 'positivish' light.
You guys really are doing all my yesterdays. I trained as a local reporter on the Wetherby News straight out of school between '79 and '83. For four years I walked across that bridge to report cases in Wetherby Magistrates' Court every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. By the way guys I can confirm that Helen is the old man's favourite, at least this one! There were loads of charity shops in Wetherby back in the day, proper posh but cheap clobber. I was the best dressed punk rocker in 'Arrogut. Keep up the good work folds. All the best.xx
James's eyes are gradually glazing over as Helen tells us about the history of the Bingley Arms. Glad you kept it in , As it was actually quite interesting.
Jamlen, it's actually nice to see you both giving us a few tours of towns, closer to where you live, for a change 👍✨ Wetherby's stone buildings and street floral displays looked lovely (as did the river setting) and it was nice to see Helebobs 'bag a bargain' (or two!) of quality, from their upmarket charity shops (a free-time pleasure of mine, also.. 😍 👢👜 ✨). It's ALWAYS great to find the oldest pub/coaching inn, in a town, which hasn't been stripped of it's original charm 🍻✨). Thanks again for another FAB, Fun, vlog, Jamlen! 👩❤️💋👨✨
I'm just watching and saw the lady at the market tell you about Gozo. Well I live there and been here16 years. My partner is a local. It's a great Island. Lots of history regarding English. They all speak English as well as Maltese.
@@carolcr4024 yes beautiful beaches . Hondoq is my favorite and Ramla bay. Not that I get a lot of time to enjoy as I work all through the summer but I make the most of it .
My friend is from Wetherby so been loads - its a lovely place. She sent me this... fab video guys. Helen you gave the whaler a 7 and then pulled one back ... my beady eyes clocked it.
Your two lovely people Helen and James lol James jokes so funny 😂Lovely charity shops for Helen I like them too a beautiful place than you for sharing enjoyed always canit wait for next video
Every town has a host of charity shops. Regular shops are dying perhaps because of the cost of living crisis, online shopping and the expense of business rates and energy. I sometimes visit our once much loved dying shops because dread the day they go the way of a much beloved Woolworths! No more pick and mix with my favourite banana fruitella etc..I find Haribou synthetic and sickly and hope they do not become our substitute for Trebor and goodies I like!
Lovely river , fantastic bridge , all the seating around is really nice , you shouldn't feed ducts bread you need pallets from pet shop or Sainsbury's sell boxes of them , I fed them cereal or berries , oh yes take me to charity shops , have you had a good coffee , so nice seeing markets , I love a baby cham that was what they said , the lady looks a horse person , beautiful fish shop , music 🎵🎶 was loud , omg that looks good , nice cafe , the dress looked nice Helen , oh can ya get a pork pie , , James you shouldn't have said you'd read it , sounded good , lovely stone built places, yes go weather by whaler for fish and chips , then visit again and go ta frying pan x james you a gentle guy , james youve got to think if helen bought new , she would spend a future , so thumbs up helen x 👊👍😘
Just discovered your channel yesterday - omg - brilliant. You and Helen have an amazing banter and repore.... my new grandson born last week is called James!!! Keep em coming - great entertainment 🙏. I really miss my van that I used for festivals - I was a happy hippie xxxx
After a rough week I fell asleep. I have just woke up and, automatically, I went to my YT notifications. You were top of the list. I'm 20 minutes in; without a doubt this both looks and feels like the most Christmas video ........ever!!!
Technically that is the original Wetherby Whaler however the newest in Tadcaster is where it all started. Phil sold it and bought the chippy in Wetherby. Last year he bought the Taddy shop back
25:30 I was thinking exactly the same! And when Helen said the Chips could've been done a bit longer, I thought that too. Their chips were so you can't put liquids like peas or curry to near em' or they fall apart!
I live in Wetherby and got married in St James church many moons ago! Never had a bad meal at Wetherby Whaler....the Frying Pan is never open! The Wilderness car park is very popular but Leeds City Council are bringing in charges so enjoy it while you can.
I like your film joke James, made me chuckle, its on a par with the dad/bad jokes my husband tells, relentlessly!😂 Pomfrets looked lovely, Helen does her scone the way I do, looked very yum 😋. Sad how they have to lock churches, even if your not religious they are interesting to look round. Some flowers for Helen, being as she didn’t get to see the flower arranging💐💐💐. Helen & james, the river wharf in Wetherby has frozen over numerous times over the years, urban legend has it ,a well known Wetherby lad ,rode his motorbike up the frozen river up to Collingham & back to Wetherby 1963 I think it was, many years ago Wetherby had its own boating stage..
I love how you guys mix humor with these food adventures! 😂 Wetherby looks like such a chill spot, and I gotta say, those fish and chips are making me hungry just watching! 🍟 Also, the oldest pub sounds like a must-visit, I’d love to see the inside! Keep it up! 🤙
Started watching your channel just recently and really enjoy it. Normally when me and the Mrs go out in the day we just have a coffee and a cake, today we went to Matlock Bath in Derbys and I had to have fish chips and mushy peas cos I've been watching you and Helen. They were 8.5 😁 very nice. Her indoors says I'm looking fatter already 😂
Didn’t get a pork & chilli pie at appletons, didn’t get a beer at Mews, didn’t stop for a coffee and beers at Bottle & Bean! Shocking James, you need to revisit 😂 Helen seemed happy tho’
The earliest mention of the Trip as the oldest pub in England comes from around 1910 when the landlord drummed up trade with new signage. However, the Trip probably isn’t even the oldest pub in Nottingham. That accolade likely belongs to The Bell Inn, which is a mid-15th century building that was in use as a pub by the 1630s.
@johngrant5448 most people (myself included) in the Midlands believe it to be so, I just did a Google search on England's official oldest pub. There are a surprising number that claim it 😉
In th 80's i worked just outside wetherby at Bowcliffe Hall I got the bus from Harrogate to Wetherby and then a taxi to work, On the way home I often went to a bar called Corks down the side of the bus station (Looks like the bu station is now Ask ) and had F&C at the Wetherby Whaler before they were franchised, they were excellent back then, shame how things don't change for the better!
Okay, Rant time, Free car park at Wetherby, Hurry, cos Leeds City Council are now going to charge for parking at all parks in Leeds! You are now having to pay to get fresh air and keep healthy. When my son was little he went to Wetherby with his Gran and Grandad to the Whaler takeaway and she took a basket with knives, forks, napkins and condiments whilst sitting by the river. Blew my mind. So posh round there. Great to see you getting nearer to my neck of the woods. Thanks for the review. Take care the other Helen x
So glad you visited wetherby as it brought back fond memories as when I use to visit the 'Oven Door Bakery ' and it did fantastic hot and cold homemade pork pies on my travels as a service engineer, for me personally wetherby was the gateway to beautiful North Yorkshire.
Black Bull food is fantastic! Eat there all the time! Busy market place pub, it has its busy rush hours then it’ll die down and night time is busy!, it’s fantastic, love the fish and chips. Mushy peas I always go for, absolutely fantastic staff too!
🤣🤣 Love it... My husband took me away for a suprise weekend August bank hol and brought me to Wetherby!! Loved it, stayed in an old pub, The Swan & Talbot, made the mistake of reading the history of the pub and I didn't sleep a wink 🤣 He was the same waiting for me while I went in every charity shop 😬🤣 they are amazing. I got two blazers still with tags on, a Zara one and a M&S one, a phase eight dress all for about £30 they are brand new I just couldn't believe it 😃 (Helen will understand) 😂 Have to agree on Wetherby Whaler, use to go to Wakey one but stopped years ago, just went downhill, pale dry chips, thick dark batter on the fish 😝
Morning James, myself and the wife loved the latest video, please do some Ghost hunting with Helen i've no doubt it would be hugely popular for your channel as alot of people really like that kind of stuff and with you two at the helm, well what can i say!
Keep the jokes coming - James we howled at 'Constipation' the Movie - we were hoping for great things at the Oscars for it but it came bottom Simon and Rachel
Sometimes be aware the wilderness carpark can flood, once many years ago my car wouldn't start in the redlion carpark i tried to bump start it but failed i ended up leaving it in the wilderness carpark over night, top end of park luckily,i had a phone call from the police to say the car park was flooding,i went down with my mate to retreive the car its 30years ago, the water was up to the car rims, some youths had put a brick through my window, my mate towed me through backstreets of wetherby on a 6 foot rope in his ford cosworth 60mph,i was virtually stood on the brakes kacking myself, i drove to my other mates gave him the car for free, thinking he would scrape it, but to my horror he got it up& running & used it for awhile, i bought a more reliable car.true story..
Female and I did Derbyshire last week.. Ashbourme, Bakewell, Buxton, Macclesfield, Matlock and Bath, and BEST of all EYAM! Used The Hollin Hotel, Bollington as a base and tripped out from by there. TYVM both.
Hi James & Helen , shame you only showed a glimpse of The Windmill Inn in Linton - back in the mid 80's I the landlord there & it was my eldest daughter's 1st home !!! It was a very busy pub back then, as people would travel from as far as Leeds ( usually at weekends ) & it was very popular with the locals .
Its a pity the fish and chips etc were not up to scratch, But as usual was entertaining watching James and Helen walk around the streets of Wetherby. The food sliding off the side and Helen laughing as it slid and fell off again. Signified we were in for another barrel of laughs and a few nice structures and historical info. And of course the expected banter. oh and fish ladder was interesting to know.
We always stop at wetherby and parked by the river when travelling from Newcastle to Warwickshire to see my mum and dad. The children were little then and always look forward to that stop to feed the ducks That’s the only part we have seen so it’s nice to see what Wetherby is really like I bet it’s changed since when we went in the late 90s. Love the jokes you two have right cheers me up from Lynda. Thank you ❤❤
The introduction of the video was very nice James with scenes from the motorway in the rain and some background music. I don’t know why but the theme for HillStreet Blues came to mind. I liked the joke as well; Have you seen that new film called Constipated? No, it hasn’t come out yet. 😂 I suffer from IBS, so I can relate. 😂
Best ever are in norfolk cromer, tried whitby Scarborough all over but cromer fish and chips wow like homemade, never seen fish like it thick white fish crispy brown light batter thick chips the taste hmg. On hols here so I'm going today ❤❤❤
Can I second the subscriber who praised Helens singing voice , definitely need more of her singing in the vlogs James 😉😂😂 Helebobs initially giving that fish n chips a 7! 33:09 then quickly pulling a finger down to a 6 after clocking your lowly 5 😂 Another entertaining video mate 👍🏻💕
Another great 10 out of 10 vlog from team Jamelen. We're definitely going to visit Wetherby next time we go over to visit fam in York. I can't wait to visit the Bingley Arms. There's some proper history right there. We liked the constipation joke. Have you heard the constipation song? It's the 1984 hit by Ashford & Simpson called 'Solid.'😅
James is on the right lines. I hate to remind you, but ghosts don’t exist. When I can’t be bothered to provide a proper or logical explanation for something, I’ll say it’s because of ghosts.
Helen & james, awhile back you wanted suggestions, I suggested striding edge in the lake district, but having seen you walk up those steps too the Wetherby whaler I was maybe to hasty, what with your dodgy knee& Helens lazy hip.that could be a bridge to far,but I will reserve judgement..
Guys you seemed like you were walking around the centre of wetherby going around in circles.you missed out on a few things, network of railway line walks, river walks, various supermarkets, many banks have closed down, what was that first pub,you could do with asking for recommendations before going in blind for reviews. But im glad you came to Wetherby..
The Bingley Arms near Leeds in West Yorkshire claims to be early medieval in origin. Some say that it’s mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. Sadly, no evidence supports this 11th century date and there are no pubs mentioned anywhere in the Domesday Book. The building is a good example of mid-18th century West Yorkshire vernacular style, consistent with a surviving 1738 datestone.
i love your videos you are both down to earth you cheer me up on my down days i lost my wife last year on my own now keep up the good work all the very best to you both
You both look healthy to me. Having porridge every day is so good for you. Have you been to Scotland? Following you from OZ 🏴🇬🇧🇦🇺 I believe there is a great Chippy in Howarth. I went to school around there in the 60s and Howarth hasn’t changed at all. 😂😂😂😂Leave her alone
Another brilliant vid, Love that old pub with the Priest Hole, so much History. I think you and Helen should do one of those vigils with a paranormal investigator in a Haunted building/house it would be comedy gold😂❤ And as for that band that were playing , blimey they get about! I've seen them in Lancaster and Cleveleys quite a few times, and my Dad has seen them in Manchester 😅 Lots of love to you both❤❤

Awesome yous two are comfort for your soul ❤so happy watching your vlogs I'm originally from Scotland but live in Thailand ❤
Nice to see you both in Wetherby and an enjoyable video production ensued: lots of funny banter as usual. Regards from Bramham 😊
Female and I did Derbyshire last week.. Ashbourme, Bakewell, Buxton, Macclesfield, Matlock and Bath, and BEST of all EYAM!
Used The Hollin Hotel, Bollington as a base and tripped out from by there. TYVM both.
That book on Strategic Planning will come in handy on your next hike with Helen !
Its a pity the fish and chips etc were not up to scratch, But as usual was entertaining watching James and Helen walk around
the streets of Wetherby.
Thank you ❤❤
Shut that door, Helen !! ...Jesus 😂😂😂
I feel that you haven't winged about motorbikes for a while ! Another brill vlog - love you guys.
My family all live there. Lovely town full of Wetherby Whites. MOT

This was fun joining your walk. It looks pretty there.
Try sandbach old market town in cheshire lots of pubs and restaurants right next to each other its tiny but old
Can I second the subscriber who praised Helens singing voice , definitely need more of her singing in the vlogs James 😉😂😂
Helebobs initially giving that fish n chips a 7! 33:09 then quickly pulling a finger down to a 6 after clocking your lowly 5 😂
Another entertaining video mate 👍🏻💕
Helens spirit joke- needed a moment!x
Frying Pan belongs to friends of ours next time your in Weatherby give them a try, you won’t be disappointed 👍
At first I thought you meant instead of the spongy baseball bat 🤣😂
Another great 10 out of 10 vlog from team Jamelen. We're definitely going to visit Wetherby next time we go over to visit fam in York. I can't wait to visit the Bingley Arms. There's some proper history right there. We liked the constipation joke. Have you heard the constipation song? It's the 1984 hit by Ashford & Simpson called 'Solid.'😅
I do enjoy your company James and Helen, always entertaining.
Helen “It were £12.95 so a rounded it up to £13” James “oh you’re one o’ them aren’t ya” 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I prefer Chinese curry sauce with fish and chips. Goes really well. It's better than the traditional stuff you get from a British chip shop.
20 years ago Wetherby Whaler was lovely, not anymore since expansion maybe 🤷♂️.
Have you tried Thompson on the A64 near York?
Life is to short to be judged by anybody enjoy I say we all come in the same way and go out the same way ❤
You ought to try Ludlow, they have so many charity shops , they give you a map to visit all of them !
Wetherby looks so pretty hope you both enjoyed Helen’s day off together she works so hard so do u James but in ur own time xxxxxx❤❤
Wetherby is a nice market town, we go on the bus quite a lot.
The food at the Bingley Arms is excellent.
Time 2: Get back up Toon, mate . Love ya videos. Love ya banter pall. Ps miss ya benidorm holidays.
Just caught up with this one as I was fishing in Suffolk at the time! 🎣😂 top video once again guys, great watch! ….Smithy
The Bingley Arms is great for food, not been for years but it was really good back then.
Always fun to see a familiar place through your eyes. Agree about the Whaler's fish and chips; only medium quality at best.
So entertaining and good local information. Thank you for making me laugh. 😂
That was grate thank you James and Helen
The Strines pub, Derbyshire neqrLadybower is a bit spooky when stopping over for the night!
Great place both 👏
Do love charity shops 😅

You both look healthy to me. Having porridge every day is so good for you.
Have you been to Scotland? Following you from OZ 🏴🇬🇧🇦🇺
I believe there is a great Chippy in Howarth. I went to school around there in the 60s and Howarth hasn’t changed at all.
😂😂😂😂Leave her alone
You two get better and Better..lots of laughs
That pub is amazing history is unbelievable ❤❤❤❤❤😮😮
Love the beautiful flowers in the hanging baskets.🌷
Another brilliant vid, Love that old pub with the Priest Hole, so much History. I think you and Helen should do one of those vigils with a paranormal investigator in a Haunted building/house it would be comedy gold😂❤ And as for that band that were playing , blimey they get about! I've seen them in Lancaster and Cleveleys quite a few times, and my Dad has seen them in Manchester 😅 Lots of love to you both❤❤
They were also on my Bury vlog
@@bythecurb Oh yes they were!🤣🤣🤣
You make me laugh James - ‘non of this is going to gree in’. Helen - reformation of the monastery’s’ - and she wasn’t to far wrong - Helen believe 😂 ❤
