    Keep the flash light from fiotchi or however it’s spelled, I have the same one for years now and it works great! Good review!

    Yep factory gas block hitting the hand guard. Replaced mine with a superlative arms set screw gas block before I even shot it. Now I have 300+ rounds no malfunctions and the gas is tuned down. I have the 20’ inch sfar. 11 pounds loaded love this gun.

      @@cameronreuthe6152 That's awesome! The superlative arms gas blocks are really good quality. Should serve you well for years to come! I thought about getting a 20 inch myself for longer range shooting. They have the SFAR in 6.5 creedmoor now so for that reason may be something I do one day!

    I took a Dremel to the feed ramps and it made a huge difference on the brass inside the action

    I put in a Tubbs braided buffer spring for a ar10, took care of all problems, stock gas block fine after install of that spring, also H2 buffer, runs smooth and absolutely no jams.

    You have obviously modified this rifle to the point that the only thing left from factory is the frame's lightweight. Ruger came out with it with the objective of providing the shooter with a lightweight 308 at price around 1k vs others well over this mark. Unfortunately, there has been mixed reviews with it' performance with some being happy with it while others with negative results with various problems with different settings and ammunition. Glad to see that you are happy with all these mods however, with all these upgrades, the rifle becomes very costly to the budget oriented shooter. I have one and I had to send it back twice with feeding issues and brass shaving. Finally, it appears that it has been fixed. Thanks for sharing!

    It's also weird that a 20 round mag will run any ammo Federal hollow points and all, but the five round mags do not feed those rounds. Mine does the same exact thing

    Removing the brake was kinda silly. Im thinking of upgrading the brake.

    Was thinking about buying one of these this weekend. I know ruger has apparently updated their gas block from the original version they had a year or so ago. Most of what is on RUclips is bad reviews of it while most of the comments are good reviews. I guess I’m just going to have to get it and see if I got lucky or not. If not I’ll just be replacing the gas block and tube I reckon. Ps- the brass hitting the camera was gold😂

    • @Steelrunner
      @Steelrunner  2 месяца назад +2

      @@JWCV Yea they updated the regulator on the gas block. It can be removed there are youtube videos from Ruger themselves how to remove it from the gas block. It's very simple.... before I put the Aero adjustable gas block on I ordered he updated regulator just to go ahead and replace it proactively and it worked just fine. However I ended up eventually changing the whole block to the Aero just for the ability to more fine tunes the gas setting.... if you get one I personally think it's a good rifle. There are some proprietary parts like the bolt carrier assembly, barrel, and buffer tube assembly, but everything else can be customized just like any AR-15.

    • @bmrz38
      @bmrz38 Месяц назад

      The buffer tube assembly is proprietary? 🤔
      A heavier buffer will help smooth it out. H2 or H3 is helpful.

    • @Steelrunner
      @Steelrunner  Месяц назад

      @@bmrz38 Yes it is proprietary. I tried an H2 with the original gas block but it would not cycle properly on setting 2 (normal). It would on setting 3 (adverse) but I did not want to run it on setting 3 all the time. But since changing the gas block to the Aero adjustable gas block it has been great 👍

      I tried to put a SOLGW a5 system on their and it wouldn't work. Ended putting that on another AR and replaced the buffer spring with a Geiselle rifle length spring and a H3 weight to soak up the recoil. Also swapped out the stock and added another one and added a thicker buttpad. Recoil is MUCH tamer now. I'll probably end up making a video so people can see what I did with mine

    I just got one of these in July, and have found that I get a little bit of brass coming off the casings as well, but that's only with 150 grain bullets (the cheapest ones), but it really seems to like 170 or 175 grain bullets, and I don't get any brass damage with the heavier rounds.

      @@Steelrunner Another no-brainer tip for the SFAR is to replace the factory butt-stock pad. Magpul makes a thicker pad that is a simple bolt-on replacement for around $20, and it's a noticeable improvement in felt recoil. I'm a skinny guy, so I notice it quite a bit.

    Do you have to change hand guard to go with aero gas block?

    • @Steelrunner
      @Steelrunner  2 месяца назад +1

      @@justusbryant7366 No, you won't have to. It will work with the original ruger handgaurd or any other for that matter... You will need a new mid-length gas tube for the 16 inch, or if you have the 20 inch sfar you would need a rifle length gas tube for that one.

      @@justusbryant7366 I just used a CMC midlength gas tube. Same one as what's used for a regular ar-15... and as far a settings go I'm not really sure how many clicks there were i did not count... the Aero has I believe 15 settings so started with closing it all the way and then i turned 8 clicks open from the closed position, and put one bullet into the magazine and fired it and if the bolt did not lock back or expell the case i open the gas 1 more click and repeat the step of putting one bullet into the magazine and firing it. Repeat that until you get the bolt to lock back. Then once I got lock back I opened it up 2 more extra clicks (to guarantee it's getting enough gas) I may try clicking down one more and test if it will be good enough I'm not sure yet. But the 2 extra clicks from the minimum lock back setting have worked great.

      @@justusbryant7366 I should have counted my clicks but forgot to, and its hard to explain how to make the adjustments through text but if it was hard to understand and If you've never set an adjustable gas block.
