Same one as what's used for a regular ar-15... and as far a settings go I'm not really sure how many clicks there were i did not count... the Aero has I believe 15 settings so started with closing it all the way and then i turned 8 clicks open from the closed position, and put one bullet into the magazine and fired it and if the bolt did not lock back or expell the case i open the gas 1 more click and repeat the step of putting one bullet into the magazine and firing it. Repeat that until you get the bolt to lock back. Then once I got lock back I opened it up 2 more extra clicks (to guarantee it's getting enough gas) I may try clicking down one more and test if it will be good enough I'm not sure yet. That's for the video, but why is the 22 arc better than the 556

    • @Steelrunner
      @Steelrunner Месяц назад

      The bullet design is the biggest factor. It has comparable speeds but the ballistic coefficient is much much higher. Basically he bullet is long and sleek kind of like the 6.5 creedmoor's design it's the same concept that it will retain speed and energy further down range and also buck the wind more efficiently than other standard .22 caliber rounds...it is a very long bullet design much more than .223, 22-250 or 220 swift... so basically it comes down to how effectively the bullet cuts through the wind.... One day I'm gonna video and run the .22 ARC against the .22-250 at extended ranges and see how they compare. Gotta find a range for that first.

  • @BrianSanner-rr6lp
    @BrianSanner-rr6lp Месяц назад

    Thank you for doing this test, I now realize that I would never waste my money on the 22 arc that I was going to buy. 22-250 blows this thing away, as well as the 220 swift, and 223 WSSM

    • @Steelrunner
      @Steelrunner Месяц назад

      They are faster yes....But supposedly at 300 yards the bullet design from the .22 ARC has a more efficient design. It has a much much higher ballistic coefficient that will enable it to retain speed, and energy much further down range with less wind drift. Theoretically. If you haven't seen the difference in the bullet design I recommend checking that out. I plan to do some testing at extended ranges whenever I can get a place to do that kind of test to video it... Supposedly at 300 yards the efficiency of the high ballistic coefficient bullet from the .22 ARC it will match the .22-250's performance and exceed it beyond 300. I want to test this because that is the supposed caveat to the .22 ARC's performance. And I have a .22-250 Howa 24 inch bull barrel to run it against... Hopefully I can do that in the future soon.

    • @BrianSanner-rr6lp

      @Steelrunner 2 месяца назад

      Thanks you or saying that i appreciate it.. I plan to do other calibers as well, just been on the journey of testing this new cartridge. And yea I see what you're saying and it does make sense. But I believe that the design of the bullet itself is the major factor with the .22 ARC while still being able to achieve those speeds... while the speed is comparable with other .22 caliber projectiles the high b.c. which on the 62 grain is a G1 of .395... that will enable it to theoretically retain speed, and energy further down range with less wind drift. I can't speak to longer distances just yet but I'm hoping to run it next to the .22-250 at 300 yards in a future video whenever I can find a suitable range to do that. But Hornady says it will match or even out perform the .22-250 @ 300 yards and outperform it beyond.. I really want to put that to the test. And yes the 88 grain is the heaviest in the factory ammo offerings but I think I've heard them talking about a 90 grain that can be handloaded.

I ended up going with the magneto sporter realistically they all do the same thing the garmin is just so easy to set up. I got impatient waiting on the barrel for my ar so I just ordered one for my bolt gun should have it this week. Hornady uses a 24” test barrel so they should have faster numbers compared to your 20”. Don’t quote me tho I could be wrong on this specific ammo. So happy you’re putting out these videos. You probably should bite the bullet and get that 5$ adapter if you can get the sd’s that way if you find a good consistent lot # on a box you could set one aside for hunting or long range stuff. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

      Definitely! It seems like the amount of fps loss from a 24" to a 20" is negligible. On the 62 grain 100 fps loss from what the box say's and still having it at 3200 fps is still extremely well. Especially the design of these high b.c. bullets. (Which the G1 is .395 on the 62 Grain Vmatch) I believe it's gonna hold velocity and energy very well at extended ranges. Great videos. I earn a living with my 6arc and in process of building a 22arc. I shoot most of the grain weight depending on target animal. 108,105,103,and 80. Trouble I’ve had revolves around gas cycle. I’m using A5 buffer system with green spring and cycles all perfectly except for 80s 75s. In order for them to cycle properly I have to changeout the green spring to a reduced power spring (yellow). I also am shooting a flow through suppresser. I’ve change gas blocks even tried a non adjustable block as I have to run an adjustable fully open. But with the 80s it won’t cycle with a non adjustable gas block with the a5 buffer with green spring unsuppressed either. I have checked alignment with a borescope. Only thing I can reckon is the gas hole on proof research barrel may be slightly too small. I need to check gas port size with other barrel manufactures. I bought a rifle speed adjustable gas block in hopes of once I open up the port I can simply with a slight rotation shoot the all the loads without having to change the buffer springs. Sorry so long winded, just trying to explain my situation and you if you might have a solution or maybe one of your viewers might shed some light on this. On an interesting note I’m running a thermal and all loads poi is the same so I don’t have to toggle between sight in’s. Hornady gets a lot of hate but I depend on my rifles to get my job done and done well. I haven’t seen anything wrong with their loads and I’m in about 1000 rounds through these 6 arc. Thanks again.

      From everything ive seen with gas blocks, usually the port on the block is usually slightly bigger than the gas port on the barrel to allow for very slight variations of off center cant and different port sizes and still covering the port fully. I've heard of people actually boring out the gas port larger. A gunsmith could do this I'm sure with a drill press and however many thousandth's of an inch of material I couldn't say how much you would need. But If you have an adjustable gas block they are usually bigger than the actual port itself so the limiting factor it would seem is the actual gas port itself, but by boring out the actual port just a bit i believe would still be within the tolerances of the maximum adjustment on the block. Again I'm sure a smith with the right tools can measure these tolerances. If taking a very small amount at a time it would allow more gas to force the bcg's action. And it might take a few attempts removing just a small bit at a time to tune your rifle. Some other problems simpler problems could also be make sure the gas rings inside your bolt carrier are still good and not flimsy so they are sealing properly during funtion, and the gas key on the carrier itself is tight and staked properly. Hope this helps my friend.

    How do you like the BA barrel? I bought a BA .300 BO barrel. It was recommended to be by a buddy that shoots competition. Granted he shoots WOA barrels for comps, but says he has some BA’s that surprised him accuracy wise.

    I really like Hornady bullets, but I'm not sold on their factory ammo. I have one rifle that likes a Hornady factory offering. Actually, that is a discontinued ammo, the 7mm Remington Magnum Hornady 154 grain Interbond. So, right now I don't buy any Hornady factory ammo. I'm using Barnes for medium game and handloads for varmints.

    Somethin to consider, ive seen fair size accuracy swings with gas system adjustments. I found this messing with carbine and a5 buffer systems, springs and adj gas blocks trying to dial in a couple builds to be super flat and soft shooting. One of them was sub moa overgassed with the a5, drop gas down and it fell off to over 1.75moa. Another build only shot well gassed perfectly, under or overgassed it would open up. Verified w a locked down vice to take myself out of it. Wish i had a chrono to see what there was for velocity diff if any.

      Wow that's crazy. I've never noticed much difference when adjusting the gas but it theoretically I guess could make a difference. The pressure in the gas port is somewhere around 12,500 psi and that varies a bit, but that is alot of psi that could ave been absorbed.

    I’m wanting to test out the 22arc in a bolt gun. Really want the 22 creed but for my needs the ARC would be fine. Also - for the range you shoot at and your setup you could get away with one of the cheaper Caldwell chronos. Not as fancy but they work.

    • @Steelrunner
      @Steelrunner 2 месяца назад

      The .22 ARC so far has performed well... The .22 Creed I'm sure is faster but probably has a slightly longer action. It's always nice to weigh your options and only you know what is right for you.... Going to be doing some sort of penetration/expansion video in the next couple of weeks, Hopefully that will help you further with your desicion ... And yea I think the Caldwell would be fine for the chronograph testing. It seems most of the feedback I've gotten most people want to see the Garmin results. If the stars all align I'm gonna try and give the viewers what they want to see. But we will see! For that they will have to wait a little longer because it is quite expensive.
