    1. Keep you elbows out away from your body in the ready position
    2. Keep you hand lower than the ball to ensure the proper wrist angle
    3. Set your racket lower than you think you should so you don’t chop down during contact

    Good tips. tip #3 - anticipate the ball is hard. heavy top spin balls will dip and under spin balls will rise. but it makes sense to prepare your hand/racket below the estimate contact point. It easier to make a block, chop, or topspin volley.
    I want to add my tip: #4 if you have a hard/firm grip on the racket, you would have more power and could block heavy fast ball coming at you. the net volley discussed here is all shoulder, arm, and maybe forearm - no wrist. I left out feet b/c we only discuss ball coming at you.

  • @vladimirkitov35
    @vladimirkitov35 3 года назад

    Very useful tips, Ryan. Good that you recap your tips in description on top, too. Thank you! Possibly the forth tip for firmer volleys could be the must step forward with opposing feet just prior to contact. I think this move also adds "walliness" and control to our volleys just as much as it is often neglected by rec. players..

    I liked the tip about keeping the elbows out. For over a year my wife's volleys have been weak and inconsistent. My analysis was that she was tipping her racket back, causing her volleys to be weak. Ryan's tip about the elbows finally explained why this has been happening. When the ball comes to her, my wife drops and tucks her elbow into her side. When I showed her the video she is looking forward to trying this tip!

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  3 года назад +1

      Not a fan of the slightly tilted ready position. I understand why it’s taught (ready for body volley) but I feel it hurts the FH volley. Thanks for the question!

    • @evanc.2382
      @evanc.2382 3 года назад

      Agreed. I'm mentally forcing my ready position not to be tilted. When tilted, I do get quite good reactions with body shots, and great BH volleys, but I consider I miss too many FH volleys. Not acceptable. That's why I'm trying to keep racquet straight forward... trying.

  • @Aaswing
    @Aaswing 3 года назад

    IMHO, what is important in volleys is the forearm to racket angle, which should be close to 90 degrees. Navratilova, one of the best volleyer of all time agreed in her video with Will Hamilton. Take a look at our product PermaWrist which forces such a racket angle. If you contact me, we can send you some samples for you to try. Let us know.

      I understand your question. Happy to answer. And I don’t take offense to the question. I teach tennis full time 6 days per week. Morning , noon, and night. I make videos at 5am in the morning, late at night, anytime I have a chance. I literally have zero time to make “on court” videos bc my teaching schedule is completely packed. I have no time for new clients. Plus I’m married with a 9 and 7 year old. My wife works full time too. The fact that I even make content in the first place in amazing in and of itself. I’m doing my best. Trust me, I wish I had time to drive to the courts, set up my tripod, camera, wireless microphone, then drive home and edit, upload, maximize RUclips SEO, etc. the amount of time it takes to make on court tennis instruction is insane. That’s why most coaches upload one video per week if that. I’m uploading 2 videos PER DAY. I’m very proud of that btw. I’m trying my best, and with my current situation my best means making content however I can. Btw, I do zoom lessons for people all around the world late at night and at 6am in the morning. I don’t sleep much. Thankfully people are improving from my videos and that’s all that matters to me. Thanks for the support and understanding.

    Wrong. Elbow stays in front of your belly button. You shouldn’t swing or “punch” or even turn on volleys because the racquet must stay in front of your front foot. The racquet gets behind your front foot if you turn. Volleys are hit with your FEET. (Just sit down and get your knee square) And yes I can volley circles around this hacker clown.

      One does volley with FEET. No feet, no volley...just a slap. But that's for DURING contact point. These tips were more about using the shoulders/hands/elbows/wrists before contact point. About the elbows in front...I believe even if they are out to the sides, he still has them in front of belly. It's not to the sides by the ribs. (Elbows point 10 and 2 o'clock).
